Regular Forum (No New Posts) L'Amoncellement
One of two Wizarding banks in Canada, L'Amoncellement mostly serves a French-language audience, but also has tellers who speak various other non-English languages, and is therefore popular with immigrant populations. It has two branches - one in Astern Lane, and the other near L'Église St-Claire. A relatively new firm, L'Amoncellement was established in the late 80s by French-Canadian muggleborns using muggle banking savvy; they invest funds, lend money, and offer interest rates - features unknown to wizarding banking worldwide. The Astern Lane branch has a large, open-concept lobby, with a feel halfway between modern corporation and traditional wizarding vault (lots of white, overall minimalistic, with a few ornate flairs, such as the fire-crab terrarium). It also houses a (very small) art gallery featuring local artists on a rotating schedule, in the front lobby.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Wizard's Bank of Canada
An ancient and wealthy institution, the Wizard's Bank of Canada services witches, wizards, mages, and magical creatures with the facility and interest to collect money. It is a very traditional wizarding bank, with marble pillars, vaulted archways, goblin clerks, advanced magical security, and private vaults guarded at various levels depending on the premium paid to the bank. It attracts customers who want to know that the entirety of their fortunes is always available for collection and never gambled away, and, notably, who are monolingual English speakers.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) La Grimoire
Purveyor of magical texts, including most textbooks required by MacOncan students, La Grimoire is furnished like an old-fashioned library, with dark oaken walls and shelves, a moving ladder, round windows with deep ledges which can be reposed in, and the scent of books fresh in the air. La Grimoire is the oldest shop in Astern Lane, and has been open for hundreds of years... and under its current ownership, an aging wizard couple, it is growing a bit shabby, with threadbare carpets, and hints of mold on some of the embellishments; but nevertheless its clientele is robust and loyal.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Fairy Tales & Other Truths
A relatively new bookshop on Astern Lane, Fairy Tales & Other Truths is owned by a fairly eccentric young witch, and the oft-inconvenient and haphazard layout of the store speaks volumes to the management. Precarious stacks of tomes float around of their own accord, the shelves like getting in the way, and there are at least a few copies of the Secret Scroll of Serpents (by Edwardus Lima) have been missing for three years (but are often blamed when customers trip over misshapen piles of books on the floor). The perks of the shop are its sections for used books and fictitious literature.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Caducei Saccharum
Also known as the Maplewood, Caducei Saccharum is a maker and purveyor of wands, wooden carvings, and maple confectionary. The Maplewood itself has a relatively small storefront packed full of shelves, and is furnished almost entirely with the bright maple wood that gives it its name. A workshop in the back lets the scent of burning and worked wood permeate the shop. Carvings, jugs of maple syrup, and maple candies are on display in the windows. Caducei Saccharum offers a selection of both locally-made and imported wands; sugar maple is featured heavily in the local wands, and cores are more commonly of creatures (and plants) endemic to Canada.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) The Bestiary
A small, crowded storefront leads into a multi-level menagerie of owls, cats, rats, bats, snakes, turtles, toads, fish, crups, crows, and more, as well as a large and rather dingy basement selling food, litter, and pet toys. The place is crowded with cages, aquariums, terrariums, and other enclosures, and loud sounds of mewling, barking, squawking, chirping, squeaking, and hissing. Complimentary earmuffs are available at the door, as well as catalogues of Large and Rare Beasts, which are obtainable through the store's ordering services.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Audrey's Nursery and Apothecary
Magical flora, as well as some just-happen-to-be-pretty mundane plants, are for sale in the front of the shop, in something of a greenhouse setting. In the back of the nursery is the apothecary, which stocks general potions kits as well as bulk common potions ingredients. Rarer ingredients can be ordered in at a premium. There is a sign on the glass door which reads an ominous "Please watch for the Devil's Snare," crossed out and rearranged to, "Please let us know if you see our Devil's Snare."

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Carmen's Grocery
This small grocery sells, for the most part, perfectly mundane foods, but has a few ingredients from magical creatures, such as dragon steak, diricawl eggs, and flesh-eating slug-flesh. It also has a small assortment of wizarding candies, such as fizzing whizbees. It is run by a Squib couple who graduated from MacOncan's Sequoia Initiative.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) The Chimaera's Head
A pub slash nightclub, the Chimaera's Head has tame chimaera-goat crosses for bouncers, and the reclusive-in-the-day, highly eccentric bartenders are rumoured to be vampires, fueled by the fact that the entire restaurant is a garlic-free establishment. The pub is only open at night, and plays loud music into the night - although, thankfully, its walls are noiseproof. It is general knowledge that you should avoid the Caesar.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Ranjita and Rowan
The official supplier of MacOncan-approved school attire, as well as of course whatever else they feel like making, Ranjita and Rowan is a large robe-shop mostly dealing in traditional styles, but with a few more fashionable products as well. It is a joint operation owned by two families, one Anglo-Canadian and the other Pakistani-Canadian, and the variety of styles is reflected in this. The interior décor is largely of middle-eastern inspiration, with floral and paisley embellishments, in royal reds, golds, and purples.

Regular Forum (No New Posts) Astern Lane residences
Most of the residences in Astern Lane are located above shops, and occupied by the owners of said shops. However some are available for rent or purchase by others. Relatively small, often studio apartments, they would be very affordable if it weren't for their historic value and premium location.
