Maybe you'd like to create an artifact; well, magical artifacts are not easily gained, nor are they easy to come by. Every character can start with 1 Magical Artifact of 1st Rank free of charge-but then, things get difficult. To gain additional Magical Artifacts, it must first be created IC by an RPC with an appropriate Enchanting Spell. You can't just make up an Artifact on the spot-they're earned. A Magical Artifact does not need to match it's wielder's Schools. The ability of the Artifact depends on who made it, more so than who swings it around. Magical Artifacts have similar ranks to Spells, and similar effects-but due to the varied nature of magic, almost anything is possible, so long as the imagination of the maker is there. An artifact is limited by the abilities of it's school and rank. No Rank 1 Artifact will be releasing torrents of electricity with every swing. Any item can be Enchanted with almost any effect that makes sense for the artifact-a Wand can be Enchanted to shoot lightning, for instance, or create light. If enchanted in this way, the Artifact may be used a set amount of times a day. The Artifact will feed on the wielder's energy while the wielder sleeps and restores his own energy, restoring it's energy in an unobtrusive manner. There are, however, 2 Enchantments that are independent of any other School. And finally, an item can only be Enchanted once. Multiple Artifacts can be put together (say, gems placed into the hilts of enchanted weapons), but anything that is a part of an item when it is enchanted is considered a part of that enchantment. Additionally, each Artifact must be made separately IC and then assembled IC-making incredibly powerful Artifacts is possible, but quite difficult. Use powerful Artifacts at your own risk. The more powerful it is, the more likely it is to backfire on a weaker wielder-an NPCer could easily make your Artifact turn on you if you try to use something he or she deems too powerful for you. ~ Implement ~ This Enchantment may be placed on any Artifact meant to be held in the hand. The use of this Enchantment greatly reduces the exhaustion and focus accompanied with spells, with the usual Implements being wands or staves. However, use of this by a wielder eliminates any kind of element of surprise-a spell cast via Implement always comes out of the Implement itself. There are no limits for usage on Implements, unlike normal Enchantments. ~ Energy Well ~ An Energy Well is any gem that has been enchanted with the Welling Enchantment. An Energy Well feeds on the wielder's energy in the same manner as other Enchantments; however, an Energy Well is not used for Enchantments of it's own; rather, Energy Wells are used to power other spells. The more valuable and precious the gem is that is used, the more energy it can store; up to enough to cast a 5th Rank spell for free. And now, I give you, the template. Spoiler: click to toggle
