Nos Astra Spaceport, Illium
Dock 12-D
9 March 2196, 1400 hours

The ship provided for the mission was an odd looking bird. While modern ships all had that smooth and sleek look to them Blackbird had lots of funny angels and flat surfaces designed to deflect various detection systems such as radar and ladar. It had also gone some serious work in the hands of the eggheads and engineers who had been responsible for fitting it for service in ops like this and boy had they done good work. There was no way anyone could link the ship to Alliance on looks alone.

On top of the non-standard frigate design, the front panels had been changed to a less Alliance variations and the hull had been painted to look like the worn paint job of a Terminus freighter or a privateer ship. The rust bucket disguise was so convincing that James had had to make sure he was on the right dock when he first got here. And still underneath that facade lay a perfectly good stealth albeit a one that had never made it to production.

James was leaning at the railing of the dock, waiting for the selected members of the team to arrive. Outwardly he was as calm as always, but underneath his skin he wasn't as sure about the whole thing as he would have liked to be, but he wasn't about to let that show. The main problem he had with the mission was that he had not been the one to select the team and thus couldn't vouch for all of the members of the team. Some of them he had seen or met before under different circumstances, but the rest he had seen only on paper and as good they looked there it was never a 100% guarantee of their real ability. At least they had let him bring Carter along.

No point worrying over something I can't help. James pushed himself away from the railing and stretched his neck. The others should be there soon. They had all received orders to arrive in civilian clothing, using civilian transportation paid with the credit cards provided for them and to leave home any items, be it guns, armor, other equipment or memorabilia of any sorts, that could be traced back to Alliance in any way. The mission that awaited them was extremely delicate and could cause a diplomatic nightmare if their connection to Alliance would be uncovered. Nothing new there. James had spent most of his life doing things that the Alliance officially didn't know anything about. it wasn't pleasant work per say, but someone had to do it and in James opinion it was better that that somebody was him instead of someone else who might not be so well suited for the task. He'd be lying, though , if he said it didn't take a toll on you (which he often did).

"Any sign of the others yet, boss?"

James turned to face Carter who had just walked out of Blackbird's airlock. "Not yet, but they should be here soon. Their shuttles just docked at the commercial port about fifteen minutes ago. How'd the armory look?"

"Everything seemed to be in order. It should have everything required for an operation like this. Guns, armour, ordinance and other miscelianous equipment. And if we're missing something it can be fairly easily obtained through the Black Market or requested."

"Excellent. Then we are ready to go as soon as the team arrives. Tell the pilot to start the preparations, I want this ship moving as soon as everybody gets on it."

"I'll get on it." She said and returned to the ship, leaving James to continue his waiting.

Gunnery Chief David Carver sighed as he exited the docking tube from the transport he'd taken from the Citadel. He'd been on Cassidy Naval Station when he received orders to take a civvie transport to Illium, leave behind anything that could be linked back to the Systems Alliance, and report to the dock indicated and meet with a COL. James Connelly for a full briefing. The only thing he brought with him other than a few changes of clothing and some duct tape(One of his rules is to never go anywhere without duct tape.) was his father's monomolecular K-BAR knife. Other than the Latin phrase 'Acta Non Verba'(Action not Words) engraved into the hilt, there was no distinguishing marks on it that would lead back to the Alliance. The entire thing screamed Black Op at him, though it was strange he'd be sent on a mission like this so soon after being put back onto active duty.

He was still irked by his recent mission on Kori (which he'd been told to say nothing about it to anyone without proper clearance), but after reminding himself that this job came with things that sometimes made it hard to sleep at night and to snap out of it he'd managed to move on. It didn't mean he wasn't bugged by it anymore though. Carver opened his Omni-tool and checked the map of the Nos Astra Spaceport. He wasn't that far from where he was supposed to go actually.

Convenient. Carver thought as he made his way through the bustling civilians to the designated dock. He arrived inside and spotted a man standing near the dock railing, looking over a very odd and angular looking freighter. He must be the ASA spook. Carver opened his omni-tool and pulled up a picture of Colonel Connelly to make sure. After he was satisfied that it was the same man, Carver approached and snapped a quick salute.

"Colonel Connelly? Gunnery Chief David Carver, tech and demo expert reporting, sir."

SCDR LAURA SPEIRS

What is she looking at...? thought Laura. Her attention was distracted by a little asari kid sitting across from her to the right, next to what seemed to be her mother and a salarian. For the past two stops the kid was looking right at Laura as the magrail train they were in was making its run to the next station. She knew the kid wasn't blankly staring as she could make out her eyes looking around at something about her. Maybe it was the fact that she was the only human in the train car. Or maybe it was because she was noticeably taller than anyone in the car including the other asari.

The mother seemed to finally notice the staring and started talking, asking what her kid was looking at. The child then spoke back to her mother but Laura couldn't make out what she was saying. Before long the train's V.I. operator spoke through the PA system that they were approaching the next station. The child and her parents then stood up ready to get off. The kid was still looking at Laura for some reason even as they departed the train. Laura could only snicker a bit at what the child was asking about.

With a good minute or so to the next station Laura caught herself drifting off again. She checked her old keepsake analog watch which had a secondary dial set for Eden Prime local time. At the current time she figured it would be getting to about the "evening" hours of the first quarter sol. Laura hated that she couldn't talk to Megan more back home. Right now she had pretty well established herself at the newly-founded health center there and was thinking about finally having kids of their own.

Laura hadn't wanted the press the topic too much after what happened post-Reaper War. Megan hurt more from her brief time taking care of a child. And with Laura being out in space a lot for her job it didn't really give much time anyway, especially for a lesbian couple with no access to the right facilities to bear children. The marine's mind went back to the asari kid. What was she gawking at? Was it Laura's hair? Did she wonder what it was made of or what it felt like?

The train's V.I. spoke up again, signalling that they arrived at the next station. Laura sighed as she grabbed her luggage bag and left the train, making her way to the rendezvous point.

Admittedly the seemed to have limited traffic nearby. And as Laura walked out of the elevator that brought her to it she realized it was likely to help conceal the ship's docking. She could see some hints of Alliance design in it but the ship was hard to place.

Laura spotted two men on the gang plank to the ship. As she walked closer one of them jogged her memory.

"Well I'll be..."

"Ah, filho da puta, por que você escolhe o único ser humano nesta estação? Por que não o volus? Tenho certeza que ele é perigoso."

"Sir, this is only a random security check," spoke the asari security guard. "Please remain calm."

"Este é 'aleatória'? Que merda...você é a segunda azul-pele que falha-"

"Sir, I don't understand what you're saying but please, calm down so we can do our job." The guard continued to scan his rundown-looking duffel bag. He had decided to wear more casual-looking clothes to come off as a traveler or tourist. And rather than trying to look professional like a mercenary or one of the top SpecFor operators in Alliance space he decided to come off as a bit of a random annoying human.

After the guard seemed to be satisfied she handed over the bag. "You can go now, sir. Sorry to keep you waiting."

"Oque aconteceu? Posso emborar?"

"Go on. You can go about your business."

"Ta, ta? 'Brigado, azul-pele." With the guard shooing him away proceeded to leave the transit station to head to the designated point.

Rather than taking any cabs or trains he decided to move on foot for the meager distance to the actual docking port. He sought out a few alternate paths to the side just in case someone was following him. Thankfully he couldn't sense that someone was trailing or following him as he walked around.

While his eyes were looking for a follower he did take in some of the sights. With Illium being a business-minded world he did like the sight of skyscrapers being built up. At least people were spending, investing, trying to build stuff here rather than wallow in the years-old rubble.

Since re-enlisting with the system alliance ten years ago during the reaper war. Jian had tried to move on from his past life he went so far as to change his name Legally. Somethings he couldn't forget however as he was wearing an old shirt that had B.E.A.R's logo of a an actual bear claw design just above his left Pec. There was no lettering on it however to signify that it was. He didn't know why he wore it but wearing it did feel right however. He often contemplated submitting the idea of making Battlefield Espionage, Assault, and Reconnaissance an alliance initiative like the corsairs had been. He was actually on vacation when he got the message from the alliance brass. The message had been encoded for high level security. Messages like that shot up a red flag in his mind that something critical was about to be assigned. The Alliance always seemed to use him as their go to man for these kinds of tasks. More than likely it was because of his background. He didn't care however what it was in the end he always accepted the mission.

His instructions had been to travel to the Illium in the terminus systems and to leave anything behind that could be traced back to the alliance which included anything that could be trace the the alliance. They sent him a credit chit to pay for everything that he would need for the coming mission. This mission however he was left completely in the dark on what it even was. Seeing the loop hole to his orders he had packed his old bear stuff along with his illegal M-11 Wraith & M-12 Locust since he had gotten without the alliance's knowledge. As for armor he had a good idea of what he wanted to buy. On his way to the planet he had used his omni-tool to check out weapons and gun vendors here on illium where just about everything except murder was legal. He could see the perks of living on a world like this... he would have to come here sometime for an actual vacation. At this current time however he was sitting at a local bar that was down by the docks having a glass of beer human beer rather than that green crap the aliens drank. Since this was black-ops duty and he still was technically on a supposed vacation he didn't see any harm in having one beer. He knew others would disagree but they could go to hell.

An asari came over to sit next to him with a small smile on her lips it was one of the servers whom he had noted. She was most likely on a break he thought as he sipped his imported beer from the glass. She was looing over his current outfit. . He got up right as she was about to speak to him and paid for his drink leaving the bar as he wasn't there to socialize; pitty as she was a good looking asari. He made his way out of the bar and grabbed his luggage by the handle rolling it behind him as he made his way over to where he was supposed to be meeting whom ever he was supposed to meet.

As he made his way to his destination he noticed another human Speaking spanish to an asari who was scanning his beat up duffle bag that looked like it had seen better days. Jian took this opportunity to make his way quickly past the two as he was carrying his M-11 & M-12 in his bag. Once he was passed them he watched as the asari guard walk off but the fellow human kept on walking. Which was in the exact same direction he was going. An "ah ha" came to his mind as he watched for a few more seconds before he moved to walk behind the fellow.

James almost cringed when the gunnery chief saluted, declared James' name and rank out loud and then proceeded to do the same for himself. Any agent of the Agency would have gotten an earful from James had they done so, but he decided to let it slide for the military types. Their 'black ops' had a slightly different touch to them.

"At ease. From now on no ranks or salutes outside the ship. We maybe on a secure dock, but it's always better to play it safe." On paper the gunnery chief had looked like a good match for an op like this. Good performance and previous experience in work almost like this. The only thing that James found bit odd was that the man was a NCO despite having N7 designation, but that was hardly an issue that bothered him.

"Right then. Get on board and settle in the crew quarters. Second deck, first door left from the lift. Once everyone gets here I'll gather you into the comm. room for briefing. If you have any questions about directions or other non mission related, please direct them to Carter. She's the blonde who sounds like she should be reading news on BBC. You'll probably find her on the bridge."

Over the gunnery chief's shoulder he spotted a familiar figure approaching the gangway. When you had worked thirty years in this job it became a rare treat to see old associates outside your team that didn't want to murder you. It was a funny business, that way. But then again, just because someone dreamed of killing you didn't mean you couldn't work with them. In this business you often had to ignore your personal feelings and opinions and let cool pragmatism dictate your course of action.

"I was wondering when you'd get here." he said once the woman got close enough to hear without shouting."

Rhys arrived at the docks after recieving a transmission, he had left all his Alliance Gear back on the Citadel before taking a transport to Illium. He had his suit with him as that wasn't Alliance Gear. He had just enough packed for the operation, nothing more, nothing less. He walked to the docking bay of the Blackbird, spotting what looked to be the captain. He walked up to the dock entrance and said. "Sorry about the lateness Colonel, Traffic at the Tasale Relay. Won't salte as that will give us away." Rhys said quietly to the Colonel, instead holding out his hand for a handshake.

After another one of the "participants" on this mission seemed to rush past Laura to get on board, she heard James speak out to greet her.

"I was wondering when you'd get here."

"You know, if you wanted to get into starships all you had to do was ask. I could've set you up with people who have much better taste," responded Laura, giving him a playful jab at words. "It's good to see you again. Call me a broken record but I wish our reunions were under better circumstances..."

Laura took another look at the ship, wondering where exactly this came from. "I'm guessing this isn't a pleasure cruise."

As Wagner continued along his way, stopping occasionally to look at the views, he was starting to notice something. A figure, human male, dressed in black, was starting the shadow him. He didn't notice the figure initially but as he was getting close to the docks he realized the figure was actually tailing him. Work back in Rio made him always thing twice about any coincidences. And there he worked in often hostile favelas where drug dealers and gun runners could use the collections of buildings as a virtual fortress. At least here it was more "civilized" - though he was not averse to the more-negative rumors about Illium.

Where he would've turned toward the docks at an upcoming junction he instead continued onwards, ducking into a public lift which would take him up to the next several levels. After doubling back and making sure if the tail was lost he'd head into the dock with the coast clear.

Carver was about to salute again, but quickly killed it before his hand made it above his waist. He was about to say something to James, when Lieutenant Commander Rhys Williams came up past him and introduced him self to the Colonel.

"Sorry about the lateness Colonel, Traffic at the Tasale Relay. Won't salute as that will give us away." Carver recognized Rhys, even outside of his suit of armor as Rhys had been his partner during the operation on Kori last month. He would definitely be an asset to the the team. Carver was, again, about to say something; this time to Rhys, when another member of the team arrived. Whoever they were, the Colonel seemed to know them from a previous assignment.

After giving a curt and respectful nod to Colloney, Carver gave Rhys a non-verbal que that they should probably let the Colonel and the new arrival catch up before turning and heading towards the ship's gangway.

"Get your things onboard, Craver there has the directions. Lost or other questions not related to the mission details ask for Carter." James replied to the new guy, Williams he thought was the name, who had somewhat rudely pushed past Speirs. The fellow had some experience with black ,or at least dark gray, ops like this, but his N7 designation was kind of a fresh one.

He then turned back to Speirs. "You got that right. You'll get all the details once we're off the ground. Meanwhile I suggest you get onboard and get settled in, the living quarters are on second deck. I don't particularly want to spend any more time here on Illium than absolutely necessary."

James always felt like there was an eye on him on Illium. The place was a hub of information trade and many of the planet's inhabitants worked for or provided information to information brokers in one way or another whether they knew it or not. And even if he was exaggerating the threat one could not be too careful with a mission as delicate as this one. A discovery by the wrong party could spell a diplomatic and political disaster for the Alliance and James would rather die than let that happen on his watch.

"No argument here," replied Laura as she stepped up the gang plank. She thought back to prior instances where she worked with the Colonel on other "operations". Then she spoke in a more-casual tone, aiming to jab at him, "Hope you're not trying to deliver some payback to me on our past hops. You don't look like the type to hold a grudge."

Inside the ship she could detect that the air recycling systems had been newly installed or overhauled - with a distinct scent of it in the air. The consoles were different than the Normandy-class looking to be almost a generation older than the current models used. But the interior looked pretty pristine, pretty well-kept all things considered. It also had a more-conventional bridge deck layout unlike the turian-inspired Normandy.

Heading down to the second deck she found one of the more-private quarters available. Although compared to hers on the Fallujah this one was more of a broom closet. There was a cot, a small desk with a chair, then a single-width dresser. Just like on every other ship where you somehow didn't have to bunk... she thought.

"Yes, I will do" He said avoiding formalities to maintain cover. He turned and walked onto the ship and began exploring it. He set his bags down in a storage locker that was empty and took a look around.

Carver entered the ship and was surprised to find that there was actually enough room for two people to walk side by side down the halls. Most ships he'd been on before had just barley enough room to squeeze by if someone was coming from the other direction. It was a nice change, and a definite sign improvements were being made in the ship building department. Carver made his way down to the second deck to drop off his pack and pick a bunk. Carver found a free one near the back and set his pack on the cot against the wall. He was so busy taking out his clothing and the rolls of Duct Tape from his pack that he didn't notice Staff Commander Laura Speirs enter the deck and take the room directly across from his.

Lura slipped off her light jacket revealing her maroon short-sleeve top. As she tossed the jacket onto her cot she eyed he length of it. Being 193 cm tall she always had to be conscious of her height when it came to beds, doorways, hatches, cars and corridors. She realized that this bunk probably provided only a dozen centimeters of clearance. And there were hard walls on three sides of it. Why I joined the Navy...

As she started to unpack her duffel she pulled out her clothes and work fatigues to arrange them in the dresser.

Across the corridor she spotted another crewman tending to his "quarters". She couldn't recall if he was there when she walked in or if he slipped in quietly. But he, too, looked to be in civilian clothes rather than any sort of fatigues or uniform.

"Well you're either really sneaky, in which case your a spook, or you're really good at keeping quiet, so you're an operator," spoke up Laura, making sure the other guy heard it, moving to the doorway. "Or maybe you're both in which I'm glad you're here. Laura Speirs." Laura then held out a hand to shake the other man's.

"David Carver." Carver said as he accepted the handshake. "And evidently you're the sneaky one. I didn't even hear you come down."

Emily had already done everything she could do considering the information she had been given so far. She had picked her gear at the armory, adjusted everything to fit perfectly, disassembled and re-assembled her gun to make sure it worked right, read through the files she had been given concerning the other members of the team and then done it all again just to make sure that everything was as close to perfect as was humanly possible.

To someone watching her behaviour might have appeared bit obsessive compulsive, but that was because they weren't ASA DOG field operatives. At the Farm they taught you that if you were waiting for an op to begin and did not have an active part to fill, you prepared personally because often the only thing that saw you through a rough situation was your kit. And the only way to be 100% sure that everything was shipshape was to make sure it was right by yourself. There ain't such thing as being over prepared. The words of instructor Hardin had been drilled so deep into Emily's backbone that they still echoed inside her head whenever she was going through her equipment before mission. But after three check up rounds she was positive that everything was as good as it could be and decided enough was enough.

Once they had begun to prepare for flight, Emily had made it to the Blackbird's command deck and tried to see if she could be of any use there. As it turned out she was mostly in the way. She wasn't a pilot, technician or an analyst so she didn't really serve any other function than make sure that the Colonel got to knew when everything was ready. Okay, technically she could probably have flown this thing. And yes she knew enough about the systems to man many of the posts on the deck if the push came to shove, but the point was that there wasn't currently any point for her being at the deck. This left her options rather limited. Option a) faff around at the Deck and feel like an idiot, not appealing, option b) inspect her gear, maybe later, or c) go see if she could bother the military types who had just walked in. It was an easy choice.

Like everyone else on the ship Emily was dressed in normal street clothes, a black jacket, a plain grey t-shirt, jeans and calfhigh boots, just like she preferred. She had never been a fan of uniforms and always felt awkward when she had to wear one on some formal occasion. Thank God for black ops. The N7s had probably gone to the living quarters on the 2nd deck, so that was where she was also headed. She slid down the ladders leading there and followed the sound of people talking until she found the new arrivals and knocked on the door frame once it seemed appropriate to butt in.

"Hi, is everybody settling in alright? Emily Carter, nice to meet you all."

"Several months ago actually. It would've been sooner but I lost my footing on a mountain path during a combat exercise and broke enough bones to eject me from training. Had to wait a full year before I could re-apply to finish ICT." Carver chuckled. "Not one of my finest moments." Before the conversation could continue further David heard a knock on the door frame and turned to see a woman wearing a blue Jacket with a grey shirt and jeans standing in the doorway.

"Hi, is everybody settling in alright? Emily Carter, nice to meet you all." Carver smiled and nodded.

"So far ma'am. Name's David Carver." David said as he extended his hand to Emily.

Emily shook Carver's hand. "Good to hear that. And Emily or Carter will do just fine, depending how familiar you want to get." she said, going through the names she'd read on the crew files trying to remember which position Carver was playing in this team. If she recalled correctly, it was demolitions and tech.

She hadn't got the full files on anyone, only the Colonel got those, but from what she had been allowed to see Carver here had come off as at the very least competent, even if his 7 behind the N was still relatively fresh one. And despite the black bars and missing pages in the files Emily could tell that he had already seen some action in light sensitive ops. Getting useful information out of censored documents wasn't as hard as you'd think. It was all about recognizing the pattern of what was there and what wasn't and then interpreting that into something you could use. It was hard at first, but you got used to it pretty quickly when you got past 6-F2 clearance.

"And you were Speirs right?" she continued, turning to the tall woman in the room. She was about to extend her hand for a shake, but then stopped and added, preparing to salute depending on the answer. "Or is it ma'am? Sorry, my military manners are bit rusty."

SCDR WAGNER NASCIMENTO

After getting off of the lift Wagner started the process of circling around to get to the specific docks without being followed. The man in black that he noticed before had not reappeared. So the former-Brazilian special police officer could assume that either the guy took a different path or lost him in the traffic. If need be he could find some random constable to claim the guy was stalking him or looked really suspiciously like a terrorist.

It took him a little while to make his way circling around to the dock entrance, taking the lift to the specific dock area. His eyes first went to the ship that was currently docked. Then he realized this was the only one that was docked in the area. Also the dock itself was devoid of a lot of people that would normally be there from technicians, cargo haulers, engineers and dock masters. All he could catch was a man standing on the gang plank to the ship with close-cut facial hair that was somewhat messy in color, pressed in a nice suit of sorts.

"Ei, cara," greeted Wagner. "I thought I was paying for First Class transport and I see a tin can. I hope you have some of the usual toys to play with."

SCDR LAURA SPEIRS

"Several months ago actually. It would've been sooner but I lost my footing on a mountain path during a combat exercise and broke enough bones to eject me from training. Had to wait a full year before I could re-apply to finish ICT...Not one of my finest moments."

At that moment a blonde girl showed up to introduce herself, speaking a bit with Carver. Laura sized up the crewman. She didn't seem to have the complexion or swagger that might've passed for a marine or soldier. And her frost-blonde hair, pale skin, and light blue eyes almost gave her the appearance of a ghost.

"And you were Speirs right? Or is it ma'am? Sorry, my military manners are bit rusty."

"Don't worry about it for now, Carter. I'm not even entirely sure what this cruise is all about. Perhaps you could fill us in or at least give us the rundown on this boat?"

One more to go. James thought once the Brazilian walked to the dock. "We've got everything we need for a job like this, don't you worry." he replied to Nascimento's comment dryly.

It couldn't be much more now before the last member of the team would arrive and then finally they could get this mission rolling. And on an op like this every minute could be crucial, so wasting them for waiting to start was beginning to get to him. Especially when waiting too long might cost them their current only lead on the op. If that window closed they were back in the dark.

"If you want to make sure, you can check out the armory. Just get your stuff in your foot locker and settle in first. Crew quarters are on the second deck. Ask for directions if you get lost."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"I don't think that anyone else on this ship than the Colonel knows all the mission details and so far he isn't sharing." she replied. She'd tried to get Connelly to reveal something, anything, but so far the field officer had stonewalled all her attempts to get additional data.

"However, based on the things I've seen on this ship, I'd guess this is going to be a manhunt mission." she continued.

Blackbird was full of little details that gave hints about the nature of the mission they were about to embark. How the armory was stocked, what kinds of detainment facilities they had on board, the composition of the team and tons of other small things that together told a story anyone with the right training and experience could use to determine the nature and maybe even some of the objectives of this mission. All you had to do was pay notice to them and to Emily noticing and remembering details was a second nature.

"However, based on the things I've seen on this ship, I'd guess this is going to be a manhunt mission." Carter said.

"Speaking of things on this ship, I think I'm going to head down to the armory and see what we have to work with now that i'm settled in. I'll see you two later." With that, Carver gave a polite nod to both Carter and Speirs before exiting the room and making his way through the halls towards the armory.

"Later," replied Laura. As the man left the group Laura thought that it was time to get more familiar with the ship. "Carter, you think you can give me a quick tour of the ship while we're still in dock? Knowing this mission I'll probably have to know it inside-out sooner or later."

"If you want to make sure, you can check out the armory. Just get your stuff in your foot locker and settle in first. Crew quarters are on the second deck. Ask for directions if you get lost."

"Sim, sehnor," replied Wagner as he continued onto the ship.

He had to admit one thing about the transition from special forces cop to special forces soldier he disliked was the atmosphere on ships. The recycled air was always dry to him and it bugged his senses. Moisture was kept at a relative minimum to help stave off any wear and tear of the electronics due to the water in the air. He was more used to his place back home - a stone's throw from the South American jungle or the South Atlantic Ocean.

As he headed down towards the crew deck the smells of certain chemicals that were used to clean the ship's interior were picking at his nose. It was almost stifling. Of course, per his job, he dealt with it. He had worse in his training rounds with the old BOPE force where you literally trudged through a jungle no matter the filth or smell or heat or sweat. As he passed by a few others among the crew he found one of the last quarters open and started unpacking.

Emily nodded to Carver before turning back to Speirs, but hesitated a second before answering. She had to go through what exactly was she allowed to reveal about Blackbird to the Staff Commander. The specs and layout more or less fell into 'mission critical' critical category and her earlier work alongside the ASA earned Speirs some leeway in terms of what classified material she was allowed to see, her file said she had a 7-M2 ASA clearance, but the ship's background was mostly off limits. Even Emily didn't know everything of the Blackbird's phases.

"Sure, I can do that. Any particular part you want to begin with?" she replied and checked the time. It'd probably be a short tour; it couldn't take much longer for the stragglers to arrive.

(OOC: My next post will be a time skip to the briefing to get this moving again. Absent participants will be NPCd until they report in again.)

(TIMESKIP! Everybody's in the briefing room.)

James looked around at the men and women gathered in the briefing/comm room. It was a proper briefing room, not one of those conference rooms they had on Marathons and Normandies and many of the other newer ships. There wasn't some damn table everyone could sit around like they were about to negotiate about something and afterwards take a vote on the matter. No this one had a bunch of chairs facing at the other end where the comms and projectors were, reminding more classroom than anything else. Just the way James preferred it: this way he could stand where he knew everyone in the room could see and hear him well enough without feeling like he was surrounded or obscuring the images being projected in the air.

It was a decent lot the one now sitting in the room. They would do. They would have to do. Couple James knew from before and could vouch for their abilities, the rest he had to trust the brass' judgement. At least all of them seemed promising on paper and looked their part in the flesh. Only time would tell if there had been any major fuck ups in the selection. Fortunately that was quite unlikely: the villa and the farm usually bred them pretty tough. Still James reserved the right to make his mind on them after he'd seen them in action. It was the only way to really know the truth of someone.

"Alright then." He said, raising his voice a little to signal he wanted everybody to shut up and direct their attention towards him. "Since everybody seems to have arrived lets get this started."

"For those who haven't read their orders thoroughly or if my name was for some reason redacted from them, I'm Colonel James Connelly of the Alliance Security Agency. Due to the nature of this mission you are not to address me by rank or as 'sir' or salute me, or anyone else on this ship for that matter. If that feels too challenging to remember you can substitute it with 'boss' or 'skipper' or something similar, but as long as you don't mention ranks or salute I don't give a damn."

He took few steps aside as not to stand in the way of the projector and activated it with a wave of his omni-tooled hand. A surveillance footage of the Daimler Building in Constant, Eden Prime's capital, bursting in flames after flames from a large explosion broke through the 31st and 32nd floors' windows.

"Six days ago a yet to be identified terrorist group led by someone going by the name Vosq attacked the Daimler Building in Constant, Eden Prime. You may have heard of it if you have followed the news at all. Fifty souls lost their lives in the attack, eighty more were injured. Of those fifty dead sixteen worked for ONI in one of their field offices. The media is not aware of this, but it is obvious that the terrorists were and specifically targeted it."

"Shortly afterwards we received a message from the person responsible for murdering these fifty persons. She made demands about handing Alliance territory over to batarian refugees or these attacks would continue and only get worse. So far that is about all we know about the enemy right now; she's a female and batarian, nothing more. The video was too scrambled to make iding her possible. However ASA, ONI, AIS and every other alphabet agency is working their asses off to locate this four eyed bitch but there is only so much they can do without a team in the field. Ladies and Gentlemen, we're that team. Each of you has been chosen for this mission because you posses skills or talents that make you a valuable addition to this team."

"What little we've managed to gather so far makes it clear she operates from Terminus Syetems, making an official military action ill advised at best and political suicide at worst. That's why every single one of you, for the duration of this operation, does not exist. You've all received new identities you are to use in case we're forced to operate in non-combat or field conditions. Read them through and learn every detail. We get caught, we are not with Alliance. We're pirates, mercenaries, the fucking Cerberus, anything but the Alliance."

"Currently our only solid lead is a hacker ring operating from an abandoned mining colony just outside our borders that forwarded the video to us. They are keyboards for hire and have been on our radar for a while now, but so far they haven't been a priority. We've managed to track the message back to their servers and suspect they are handling data for this Vosq. Unfortunately our techies cannot access their systems without physical interaction. Someone has to get there, download a virus manually on their serves and by somebody I mean us." he said, changing the image to a holographic map of an old, ruined and abandoned mining colony that had been abandoned during the Reaper invasion. The big machines had never really landed there, the colonists had made a run for it long before that, so the infrastructure had been pretty well preserved. It kinda reminded him of Benning from before the war. Not as large obviously, but the way the prefabs had been stacked together made resemblance strong.

"They have set up their servers in this old comm center here." he said, highlighting a tower-like building near to the northern edge of the town. "Their surveillance systems are nothing we can't handle, but they've got about a platoon of mechs patrolling the town with at least one YMIR mech in the garage for heavy support. Other than that there are only seven greasy nerds that like to steal from old ladies and likely haven't ever held a gun in their lives in the building. Everybody still following?"

Carver sat quietly in the briefing room while James Connelly went over the details of their assignment. Carver had heard about the attack, and it had made him sick. He hated the kind of people who were willing to harm civilians to get what they wanted. It showed a lack of backbone, and an unwillingness for a stand up fight. He knew he couldn't take that hatred into a fight though. Sometimes emotion makes you stupid. You can end up making mistakes that can get you or your teammates hurt... or worse. After Connelly went over the details of their first lead and asked if everyone was paying attention so far, Carver nodded, but decided to hold off his questions until the end of the briefing. Chances are they'd be answered later on.

SCDR LAURA SPEIRS - - - SCDR WAGNER NASCIMENTO

Both Laura and Wagner listened for the details that the colonel had from the bombing to the suspect and then the mission parameters. As the displays showed image after image they both absorbed the information and committed some of the details to memory.

Though they also had different thoughts as to what exactly they're going to be doing. Laura figured this was an infiltration mission with last resort of blowing the place at the sign of trouble.

Wagner, on the other hand, was wondering whether this would be a covert infiltration or an overt one to disguise themselves. Having that many mechs on the premises he figured that they had to have some other people who stop by to service the mechs or perhaps augment the security. This reminded him of some mafias back in Rio who, once in a while, ran their own little hacker groups or hired outsiders to intercept police comms and hack their computer systems. And those who got cops killed found themselves at the top of BOPE's hit list whenever they showed their faces.

"Check," uttered Laura.

Wagner nodded a little, waiting for the rest of the briefing.

There were nods and murmurs of acknowledgement around the team. "Good. Now as much as I would love to just make the shuttle do few runs over the compound and thin the mech numbers before busting down the door and really ruin the day for the hackers, it's not really an option. It's more than likely that if our spot our approach they'll flush their systems which means any data we recover must be reconstructed in a computer lab before it is of any use and that'll take time." James continued.

"So we do this nice and quiet. One small team infiltrates the compound while a sniper team provides support from this hill..." he zoomed the display to a nearby hilltop that provided the best possible coverage over the infiltration team's route. Couple of stretches were obscured by buildings and ruins but there was no such things as perfection in field. You had to do with optimal. "...while an extraction team in full assault gear is standing by in the shuttle, ready to be dropped in case shit hits the fan. They're just a precaution, so hopefully all they need to do is to sit and wait."

"Optimally the stealth team would get in and out without being detected but reaching the objective..." James highlighted the server room in the blueprints now hovering in the air. It was situated half way up the tower like building the hackers were using as their base. "...undetected. Once the virus is downloaded into their system we will have a full access to their systems so stealth seizes to be mission critical. However, if the stealth team manages to extract undetected the hacker ring will continue operating and feed us new info without realizing it."

"Nascimento, Carver and Carter, you're the infiltration team. Speirs, you'll be with me at the sniper perch. Extraction, you'll know who you are. Everybody else can leave. We'll go through the infil routes and enemy patrol schedules and other details not important to those not on the ground teams. After that I'd suggest the ground teams head to armory and get their gear set up. If the infiltration team needs any additional training in using cloak technology, Carter there can provide a crash course. Any questions before we go into details?"

Carver remained silent again when Connelly asked the team once more if they had any questions. Carver wasn't very fond of hush-hush missions like this or being part of the infiltration team, but chances are they might need his tech expertise, and even if they didn't he was trained to handle infiltration regardless. You wouldn't be picked for a mission like this if someone thought you couldn't handle it, and Carver would make damn sure that he didn't let his personal feelings about this particular point of the mission screw it up.
