The following are the basic guidelines of MathforSmartyPants.com. Anyone found disobeying these guidelines will be given a warning. The forum team works on a "three strike" policy unless the infraction calls for a more drastic action.
- First Warning -- 20% warn
- Second Warning -- 40% warn
- Third Warning -- 60% warn
- Temporary Ban (48 Hours) -- 80% warn
- Permanent Ban
Severity of Warnings
The majority of warnings handed out on this forum are somewhat equal in the percentage raised. Mild to moderate spam, flaming, flamebait, and trolling would be one warning; however, if the amount of done is more than moderate, your percentage increase may be doubled if it really gets out of hand. For example, multiple flame posts within a very short period of time, or mass spamming outside of the Bored Board would equate to more than one warning, depending on the severity of the infraction. Discretion is left to the Moderator or Admin handing out the warning.
Spam
Spam has its very own forum, the Bored Board. Please use that forum for any spam and spam games. Users found spamming outside of the Bored Board will receive a warning. Spam is especially not tolerated in the math forums. Posts anywhere else in the MathForSmartyPants forums should be of substance. If a user posts a topic or reply without any words and just a lone smiley, theywill be met with a warning, verbal or official. Posts with less than four words in them are usually considered spam.
Flame/Flamebait
Flaming is expressing anger at someone in uncouth ways. Flamebaits are posts that are made with the aim of angering someone indirectly or directly. Forum users should not be doing either and doing so will result in a warning.
Repeat Topics
One topic is enough. Repeat topics will be locked or deleted without mercy and the author given a warning, verbal or official. Users found creating repeat topics after others were locked by Moderators or Admins will result in a warn.
Harassment
Forum users should not be harassing others on the forums. Anyone found "stalking" users from topic to topic, etc., will be warned.
Impersonation
A player may not impersonate another player by creating another forum account with a name very similar to the person they are impersonating. Accounts that are in violation of this will be banned or deleted without notice.
Signatures
Signature pictures must fit within an area of 450 pixels by 150 pixels. Pictures must be in good taste, and any signature containing a picture that is too violent, disgusting, sexually explicit, insulting to another player or staff member, etc... will be removed.
No Discussion Forum
Topics in the Warn/Ban Appeals forum are not to be discussed. The topic creator makes the topic, an Admin or Moderator reveiws the topic, and then locks it. No other users are to interfere. Users found disobeying this guideline will receive a warning.
Mild/Explicit Language
Mild expletives (crap, damn, etc.) are generally frowned upon and should be extremely limited in use. Excessive use of what are deemed mild expletives will result in a warning."Harsh" expletives (sh*t, f*ck, etc.) are forbidden on all parts of the forum. Excessive use will be punished with a warning from a Moderator or Admin up to and including a 48-hour ban.
Avatars
Size for avatars is limited by the forum mechanics, therefore there is no size issue for a user to worry about. Avatars must be in good taste, and any avatar containing a picture that is too violent, disgusting, sexually explicit, insulting to another player or staff member, etc... will be removed.
Multiple Forum Accounts
With the exception of Moderators and Admins, if you are caught using a multiple forum account, the multiple account(s) will be banned without notice. The main user will also receive a warn.
Concerning Appeals
Once banned from the forums, that player has a chance at an appeal, in which they state their case, and why they deserve to be allowed back into the forums. This process may take several days, so be patient. If your appeal is denied, you may try again at a later date, suggestively a month or more, depending on if we feel your appeal has given us reason to trust you again. You may also appeal a warn, by giving evidence your behavior has improved since then. All warn and ban appeals should go in the Warn/Ban Appeals Forum.
