Over the past week, there has been an unpleasant uprising in the number of 'bots' (automated account creating software, they make accounts and spam forums with links to their sites) on these forums. Several have even gone so far as to link to sites containing pornographic materials. Therefore, several posts have been deleted, several members deleted, and several IPs banned. I, and the whole of the MFSP admin staff, must apologize if any offense has been caused by these malicious posts. Thus, if anyone finds any posts (usually just topics, and not ones by established and well known users) that they believe to be in blatant violation of the MFSP rules, please, immediately PM me or any other admin staff member. Also, please, do not reply to any topic that you believe to be a bot. Just report it.

Over the past two days the forums have been down for maintence. In that time spam posts were be pruned, topics moved, and so on. It's was a chance to let the Admins and Admin Staff catch up on their work.

This was a special maintence, however, as several new things were added.

Most prominently:

• As you may have noticed, an arcade has been added. There are currently problems in accessing the Arcade Control Panel so it may be a while before any new games are added. Any new games will most likely be math/logic related.
  
• The forum rules have been revised. Please read them here. It is no longer an excuse that you did not know the rules; everything is clearly set out in there. If you have a questions, PM a Moderator or Admin.
  
• Several multiple accounts have been deleted.
  
• Special usergroups are now color coded. Root Admins are bold and red, Admin Staff are red, Global Moderators are bold, italicized, and purple, and Smarty Pants are green.
  

So, now that the forums are back up, continue to post away. Forum maintence will probably occur once a month from now on, around the the 10th.

On Christmas Eve, a mere 24 days after the forums were announced, I noticed something on the stats bar: "Our members have made a total of 5,082 posts."


Hooray!

In 24 days we have attained as many posts as the Blackboard Discussion Board got in 2 months.

A number of changes have been made to www.mathforsmartypants.com, including the addition of the MFSP logo and a link to these forums. The banner will be modified sometime soon to make it look better, as well.

Today the official forums of www.mathforsmartypants.com have been launched! For those who don't know what Math for Smarty Pants is, it's a place for everyone who either

a.) Thinks they're smart

or

b.) Actually is smart!

This website is run by Vern Williams, a math teacher at Longfellow Middle School, and Andre Kessler, a student.
