Not to anger anyone, but why do you believe the Torah/Bible/others/etc.? Has there been any proof besides what is written down? I mean, I could say that cows flew thirty years ago, but no one would believe me. So how are (these are people from the Bible, seeing as I'm not familiar with the other texts) Paul and John and Luke and Peter and such more credible? What did they do that caused you people (obviously now I am including more than those listed, such as Jewish or Islam or Catholic leader people, because y'all are not all Christian, and I don't want to categorize y'all as such) to instill your full and unwaivering trust in them, so much so, as to belive their thoughts on deities? Personally (obviously) I'm agnostic, and I'm not trying to convert anyone, but I just want to see your reasons for believing, and see if any of them could persuade me to agreeing with the 'fact' of the existence of any higher being, like the Buddha, or Allah, or Goddot, or Jehova, or...those are all I know. My apologies for any innacuracies, such as spelling, or confusing deities and religions.

This reply is a bit late, sorry.

Well, I may not be the best to explain faith in God, as I'm a somewhat agnostic Jew, but people before modern science made up explanations for things (ie, why a rainbow appears) and taught their children. Therefore, their children implicitly believed, and so on through the generations– l'olam v'aed– forever and ever. People may realize that God may not exist, but it's still an important thing for some people to believe that there is a greater power out there, giving a reason for all the bad stuff– and if they cause all the bad stuff, then don't they also cause the good? It makes people feel good to feel like, if they confess their "sins" to God, then they'll feel better about themselves, or if someone dies young for "no reason," that person who died is part of a bigger plan, and so on. While the actual events of the Tanakh may not have happened (although their is scientific evidence for some/many), it still helps to think that their is a God out there. That's why, even in this "enlightened" world, with so much technology and science to explain the world, people still believe in God.

I thought as much, but I meant specific religions, as in why is Judaism right and Buddhism wrong to some of you.

I'm not saying Buddhism is wrong. Some people believe it, others don't. I happen to believe in Judaism, but that doesn't make me "right." For all I know, we're really ruled by Mithras, and he's the only god. Or they all live together, and are just worshipped by different people.

That's why I wasn't specifically aiming that at you, because I knew already you thought like that, a.k.a. open minded unlike many people, I wanted strong believers in a faith to try and convert me, just for fun.

Oh. Thanks for thinking so well of me. Erm... I don't know that we've got many "Oh, _____ religion is the one true one, all others will die and burn" people on this board.

Well, faithful people tend to be like that. People that are borderline/unreligious/like me, just really don't care, but there aren't many of them in the world today.
