Really? I thought a geek was just an anti-social nerd.

If you call someone a geek, that means you are jealous of their superior intelligence and you are trying to downgrade their social status.

No, I realize that geek is a derogatory term, and I don't call people geeks, just discuss its meaning. I would want to be a geek, 'cuz that would mean I was really smart, but I am not jealous of them.

Geek is not a derogatory term! It is good to be a geek. Just as it is good to be a nerd.

Yes! And you guys have it wrong. Geeks are technological nerds– more focused smartness, while nerds are just all around excessively smart. My goal in life (other than getting into TJ, among a couple of other things) right now is to become a non-self-professed nerd.

Duh, we are in GT, we aspire to Geekhood, that's why we post on a math forum. But to the rest of the populace, geek is a term used to insult those of superior intellect. Just as is Nerd.

And Thalia, geek is defined as: A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

He is not bad, but you are super? Is that what it says? I translated it myself, so it probably doesn't....
