Why do you people like making fun of the Canadians? It is such a stereotypical, rude, and fictional statement that they say 'eh' ever so much. THEY DON'T!! For crying out loud, have any of you ever ACTUALLY been to Canada and stayed with Canadians? THEY DON'T SAY EH!! That statement just gets ON MY NERVES. Not all Canadians are the same. Not all Canadians say the same thing. Not all Canadians say EH!! Probably the same amounts of Americans say 'eh' as do Canadians!!! I mean, why would anyone think that all Canadians are maple syrup drinking, funny talking, eh sayers?!! All Canadians I know, which includes the ENTIRETY of my mother's family and many of her friends, DON'T SAY EH!! And that is over 27 Canadian persons that I know who don't fit in this stereotype!! And my mother lived in Canada for her whole childhood, went to college there, and still returns with my brother and me EVERY SUMMER, and does NOT SAY EH!! That statement, that "We're more Canadian than you, eh" statement, is SO wrong, SO blatantly WRONG and STERYOTYPICAL, that you people....sigh.....you people ought to be ashamed. I mean really, why would you want to even be associated with that? Why don't you just go around saying that "You can't trust a colored person around women"? They said that way back when, they really, truly did. They thought that ALL coloured persons were dirty and WRONG. They thought that ALL coloured persons were the same in at least one characteristic. That is the SAME now. I mean, you are BASICALLY SAYING, that ALL Canadians say EH, as ALL colored persons cannot be trusted around women(by the way, I am not endorsing that statement about coloured persons, I am only referencing it), and ALL Asian persons are smart. IT IS NOT TRUE!! If you don't believe the coloured person statement, why is the Canadian one any more acceptable? You may say, 'ah, but we were JOKING, no harm done!'. Ah, but do you know this? Back then, they may say, 'ah, but we were JOKING about the colored persons, no harm done.' How is one less painful than the other? Now, when you hear the statement, "no colored person can be trusted around women", you cringe, sensing the BLATANT racism, the BLATANT insult, THE BLATANT LIE. But now, why sense you not the BLATANT untruth directed at Canadians? Why sense you not the BLATANT implication of national supremacy? WHY SENSE YOU NOT THE BLATANT LIES?! NOT ALL CANADIANS SAY EH!!!!!!!!!user posted image

Well, Well, Well. How to respond? Actually, yes, I have stayed in Canada with Canadians, and we have Canadian friends who come down and visit us every year. And my little sister was almost born a Canadian. The whole "eh?" thing I hadn't actually even heard of until this year. And I wonder... why do people so argue so passionately against the "eh" stereotype, but have no objection to the "Hannukah song"? Why doesn't anyone object when we characterize "Asian mothers," "Asian failing," or that "all Asians are smart"? The proposed Canadian t-shirt would never come into being, and is simply a joke among Science Olympiaders (which number Canadians among them, who are not offended by the joke), similar to "Oh my Roneil" and numerous others. It hurts no one, as saying "you can't trust a colored man around women" would, and was simply produced after a long day full of caffeine and sugar.

I don't argue against said 'Hannukah Song' because I have never heard of it. And I do argue against the Asian stereotype, I even did in another forum here; I think in the introductions. And I believe that you bring up that many of the Science Olymiad people are Canadian to show that Canadians don't care, well get ready for a shocker, I am a Canadian as well. I have a Canadian, British, and American passport. And yet I take offense at it. Many Canadians do, many don't. I, and all the Canadians I know, do take offense at said stereotype. And how do you know that the 'eh' stereotype wouldn't hurt anyone? If it didn't, why would I be arguing with you right now? I am OBVIOUSLY offended. Just as coloured persons were back then. Because you are not Canadian, you would not notice, it does not apply to you. If a comment I made applied to you, you would be offended. You are a female. If I made rude comments about your gender, you would take offense AS IT APPLIES TO YOU. And you say, 'oh, it was a joke'. That doesn't matter. Many people still mention the stereotype, and worse, believe in it.

Not as in that all Canadians don't care, somebody always cares. My point is simply that as the t-shirt was proposed simply in order to be "sarcastic and jocular," which you said you would excuse us for, it is hurting no one, and no one other than you is offended by it, we have a right to freedom of speech, other Canadians I know have expressed that if we end up having that as a t-shirt (which we won't), they want a copy, etc, etc. Basically, it is a simple joke, learn to live with it.

Oh, ok. And I guess that you and all your friends will also be buying shirts with the phrase on the front: women should not have rights because they are useless? Oh, it's only a joke, don't get all offended by it. Do you see my point here?

And you say "no one other than you is offended by it". Did I not make it clear that all Canadians I know are offended by it? Need I repeat?

If you were being sarcastic/jocular, well...read it anyways, you may learn something.
Yes, as a matter of fact, we were being sarcastic/jocular, as I mentioned in another post, so what's your problem?
