May 27rd, 12:00 PM Sundays were definitely the best days of his life every week. Why? Because it meant no school, no idiot teachers, and no idiot students that were around to bug the crap out of him. He could sleep in as late as he want, stay in his room and sew, and not worry about the rest of the word for the most part. Some students use Sunday as a day to study extra for school or catchup on their homework. Kanji uses it as a day to just simply lounge around. There was a time when his Sundays were preoccupied with Shadow hunting and murder investigations but that time had passed and now he's free to do what he loved most: nothing. Absolutely nothing! Of course, all things that are good are eventually ruined when his mother started asking for help in the store. Not wanting to work on a day that he has free to himself, he quickly came up with some excuse about needing to go out and left the store. He wasn't the type that helped with costumers, not yet. He would avoid that as much as possible so long as his mother is around. He had a lot of maturing and growing up to do before he'd be caught dead behind a counter. Locked in a private room and sewing? Yes. Costumer service? Hell no. He had made no plans with his friends for today. So he walked around the district for a bit as he contemplated going over to the flood plains. It always had been his favorite spot to go; especially the hill top way out of the way. It was his place. At least in his mind it was his place. He could avoid the rest of the world there so long as no one else was up there. The cool breeze was always a nice charm as well. He set his mind to go to that place and started heading toward that direction. On route he caught sight of a familiar face entering the local pharmacy. His hand immediately went to the pocket of his pants. He had been carrying a doll around for two days now on the off chance that he ran into Rio. He had contemplated just going to her place but she mentioned that she was taking care of her mother so he never wanted to bother her. He could have just dropped the doll off too but he never thought to do that till just now. Didn't matter, the girl was around. Kanji made his way into the pharmacy and peeked around the store. When he found her, he approached her, "Rio-chan! How..." His question died at his lips as he got a good look at her, "Wow, you look like crap." |

She felt a bit better than the previous days. Why did she have to go out that day? She slept almost all of Thursday, waking up only to call someone to deliver dinner to the house. She didn’t feel that well Friday, but she was more active. Saturday she had attempted to do things as if she was healthy, but that didn’t go as well as she hoped. Now it was Sunday. Her nose was pink from all the sneezing. It hurt a little when the wind blew hard against it but no so much she couldn’t function. She had taken medicine Friday night that made her feel better Saturday and again the next day, but she ran out. She needed to head to the shopping district to pick some up. It wasn’t raining, luckily. That meant she could head to the store without fear of getting sicker. She put on her normal black jeans, along with a long sleeve shirt and jacket. She looked more as if it were fall outside than summer. The heat felt nice, but the nice cool breeze wasn’t too good in her condition. Right when she was near the door of the store someone had called out to her. There was a short list of people to yell at her since Rio was far from popular or even familiar in these parts. Kanji walked over to her as she stopped and then not-so-politely declared she looked like crap. ”How inconsiderate,” she sniffled. The girl moaned as she looked up at him with a dulled expression. She was aware of her rather homely state. His comments weren’t helpful. ”I am sick,” she told him before sighing. ”The whole running in the rain saying is unfortunately true.” She sneezed, causing her ponytail to fly about wildly. She groaned as she leaned her head back so her hair would move from her face. "Out for an afternoon stroll? Shouldn’t you be home sewing?” It was Sunday, the one day a week he was free from school. She didn’t understand why he would choose this day to go lollygagging. Sundays were the one day she dedicated herself to tennis when she was his age. Then again, Kanji really didn’t seem to dedicated to a thing. Edited by Rio Iwasaki, Mar 9 2012, 10:19 PM.

When she sneezed, Kanji took a step back to get away from her and the sickly germs she was likely shooting out. Yep, just as he thought, she was sick. She pretty announced as much. He reframed from pointing out the fact that he had told her that she'd likely get sick from running around in the ran. He didn't have the heart to make a jab at her when she looked sort of pathetic at the moment. His own nose scrunched up in a bit of disgust as she sniffled. He could hear the mucus that she was dealing with. It was... gross. "Nah, did 'nough sewin' this week. I don't do anything on Sunday." The mention of sewing actually reminded him why he had chased after her in the first place. "Now that ya mention it though. I got something for ya." He wasn't sure if it would be safe to give her at the moment since she would be getting all her sickly germs all over it, but it was her's now anyway. At least, he intended it to be. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small doll. It was an orange feline in a white tank top and blue shorts with a white stripe going up on each side of them. It was wearing a visor and in one of it's paws it held a tennis ball while the other had a miniature racket in the other paw. He hadn't been sure what type of animal to use for her since he didn't know her all that well. He assumed a cat was appropriate because it seemed like all girls liked cats. It was sort of a universal thing in his mind. It was probably because of his lack of understanding when it came to them though. "It uh... you know... thought you might like it." He glanced off to the side slightly as his cheeks were painted pink. He always felt embarrassed when giving people gifts; especially something he made. It was probably because it meant they could say something awful about it and it would be a jab at his hard work. |

He didn't sew on Sundays, just every other day. She sighed then shrugged. There was no need to fight about this. She was too ill to lecture him today. She just wanted some medicine. But it seemed she couldn't do that just yet. Instead, Kanji had something for her. It was a doll. It wasn't like a large doll little girls carried around. It was small and cute. It was a cat wearing a tank top and work out pants. It was cute though a bit odd. ...was that supposed to be her? She wasn't too sure. Either way, it was a nice gift. "You made this?" she asked curiously as she took the small doll from him. He looked a bit flushed as he handed it off but she didn't mention anything. She held the doll up and carefully inspected it. It was hand sown with quite the elaborate stitching patterns. "You are very talented. Thank you very much for the gift. I promise to cherish it," she said happily. She bowed politely before placing it in her jacket pocket. She'd find a nice safe spot for it at home. Rio moaned as she looked at Kanji. Well, was that all he wanted? She kept moaning as she looked him up and down. He didn't really look like he was up to anything. He seemed to be lollygagging the day away. While she could have scolded him for such wastefulness, she was doing the same with the excuse of being under the weather. However, there was a way for her to put this day to go use. "Are you busy? If not...care to join me? Well, not right now. I'm going to get medicine for this dreadful cold. But..." she explained in a lighthearted tone. "I meant more of have lunch with me." |

Was it really a surprise for her to find that he made a doll? Well, he supposed he did claim he could sew but he never really said what he did sew. She complimented his talents before pocketing it with the promise to cherish it. ”Yeah well… whatever.” He stated for lack of better thing to do. Well, that was all he planned on doing. He didn’t have any further plans then that so he was about to leave to leave Rio to her own devices when she asked if he’s busy. He shook his head and then she asked if he’d join her. He lifted a brow at her in response. Join her in the pharmacy? ”Uh…” She quickly explained that she was asking him out to lunch. His eyes darted from side to side after she made that offer. She was asking him out to lunch? Like… a dude and a girl going out together for food? With no one else? Wasn’t that a date? His face was turning red at the very idea that he had just been asked out on a date. Wasn’t she older then him? Not that he really had any idea if he had a preference over younger girls then older ones but did that mean she had a preference over young men? Oh god, what was he supposed to do on a date? Was he supposed dress up or something? Hold her hand as they walk to food? Was he supposed to pay for lunch? Are they supposed to… kiss at the end? Just the idea of kissing alone was enough for a little bit of blood to trickle down his nose. He cursed and turned away to wipe at it with the back of his hand. Damnit. Where was Yu-senpai? He could have asked him for some advice about this. It was so damn odd. ”Y-yeah, sure. If you want, c-could go to Aiya.” His voice was a bit higher then normal as he tried to battle with his nervousness. |

He acted weird again. She supposed he always acted weird and she should have seen his weird gestures and turning around in mid-conversation as just Kanji being Kanji. He had blood smears on his hand but she wasn't even sure she wanted to question where that came from. He might be bad with scissors and she'd be tempted to laugh at her new friend. It would be fairly rude of her. He said friendships didn't break easily, but she had her doubts. But he agreed. "Aiya...?" That was the local Chinese restaurant, right? Her eyes looked out past him for the place he mentioned. She supposed it would be around here. "Sounds perfect." Somewhere close they could go grab a meal from without traveling too far. It was better than him coming to her house and having to wait for her to cook something. She probably shouldn't have been cooking considering her health. She could spread infection that way. "But first, the pharmacy," she stated as she went to the drug store and opened the door. She walked in and looked around. Someone greeted her and she was sure to give a friendly smile to the person behind the counter. She went straight back to the medicince section, expecting Kanji to follow. "What was that stuff called?" she muttered was she looked through the rows of medicine. They all looked similar with slightly different colors and slightly different names. Medicine companies aimed to confuse people. She picked up a box and looked at back for all the symptoms it treated. "Oh, if you need band-aid we can get them here," she said as she kept reading. If he was still bleeding from his cut, he should something put on it. |

”O-oh. Good.” He liked Aiya. Well, for the most part. He frequented there for the most part. The Rainy Day Special was always an awesome meal even though he tended to spoil his appetite for dinner and piss off his ma. The only problem he had with Aiya was that cops liked to frequent the place too and sometimes they were having a pissy enough day where they saw him and immediately have the false assumption that he’s either planning on dashing out without paying or just flat out disgusted that he eats there. It was all really stupid complicated really… Not that he was going to mention this fact. When she went into the pharmacy, he quickly followed in after her. He had been in the pharmacy more times then he cared to count. During the investigation, the group would trade off on who’s turn it would be to buy some medicine before they enter the television world and fight shadows. While they got their strange medicine somewhere else, the pharmacy had necessary normal supplies such as band-aids, gauze, cold medicine, etc… that they didn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for at the other place. ”What stuff?” Rio didn’t seem like she knew what she was looking for. They were scanning the rows of the medicine. Well, she was. He just awkwardly stood there and waited for her to pick something off the shelf. Then she mentioned getting a band-aid for him. It took him a moment to realize what she was referring to. He wiped the blood off the back of his hand onto his pants and shook his head. ”S’all good.” He responded. ”Maybe you should get some of that vitamin C booster pill stuff. Ma always gets it when she’s sick.” He suggested offhandedly as he tried to be remotely helpful for the moment. |

He wiped the blood on his hand to his pants. She gave him blanket look. If he was cut, that didn't really fix the problem. Rio sighed. She wasn't even sure if she explained things to him that he would understand. Wiping it away didn't get rid of it, and it definitely didn't clean or disinfect the wounds. Rio sighed again as she closed her eyes. "Just be more careful," she advised. She wasn't even sure he'd take that kind of advice to heart either. Once again, she felt sorry for his mother because he must have been a handful as a child. He probably was the type of boy to fight about wearing a scarf during the winter or an umbrella when it rained. He suggested she get vitamin C pills as well as medicine. She looked at him a bit confused then nodded. "You're right. Good idea," she complimented as she walked over to get the pills. Vitamin C came in pills, gum, tabs, suckers, melting tongue strips, and many other forms. She picked up the box that had them look like candy. She supposed that was all she needed. She walked over to the cash register. The person seemed to be eyeing Kanji. Rio turned and looked at Kanji. The man said it was nice to see him again and she couldn't been more confused. "You come here a lot?" she asked confused. Did he get hurt a lot? Rio looked at him worriedly. The girl shook her head. Why would he come here a lot? Teenage boys were supposed to be healthy. But the fact he did silly things like just wipe blood from cuts away on his pants might have been a key contributing factor. |

Be more careful with what? He didn't even do anything. Whatever. He wasn't going to concern himself with it. "S'not my idea. Ma is the one that makes me come here and get it." He shrugged his shoulders. To be honest, he never really used the vitamins himself. When he's sick he just deals with it like any other guy. He mopes a lot and doesn't bother to go to the doctors or take any medicine. Medicine is gross so one would have to force the crap down his throat in order to get him to take it. Fortunately he's stronger then his mom so he can always get away from taking the medicine unless he's really weak from being sick. They got to the cash register. The cashier made a comment directed toward Kanji, who just nodded his head in return. When asked if he came here often, Kanji shook his head. "Nah. Never." That was a lie considering he had just finished talking about how his mom just always sent him there. "Well, sometimes I guess, when ma is sick an' can't make it." At least he was able to catch his mistake and cover it up. He didn't need to go around telling her how he and his friends used to stock up on things and keep this place in healthy business. The cashier has probably been a bit disappointed in these passed few months with them no longer needing to shop here. "Did ya need to take that stuff home before we get something to eat, or ya bringin' it with ya?" |

He said never which was an obvious lie. The shopkeeper wouldn't have known him if he never came here. And seconds beforehand he was telling her that his mother was sending him here to get medicine and things for her. Rio raised a brow as she looked at him. "Liar," she muttered. He quickly amended his statement from never to sometimes for his mother. For some reason, she still didn't believe him. Was he an accident prone boy? Did he get in several fights that he needed a lot of bandaging? She'd never get a straight answer if she asked. "You're such a worrisome boy," she said as she paid for her items. She looked back at him and shook her head before leaving. Outside she placed the items in her pocket as Kanji asked if she wanted to go home. "No, it's fine. Pockets work." It wasn't like she wanted to carry a bag everywhere and she wasn't a teenager so she didn't have a bookbag to place things in. Her pockets were deep enough. Besides, it seemed like such the waste to go home just to put away two small things and then come all the way back into town before eating. She walked beside him as they headed to the restaurant. "Do you eat at Aiya alot?" she asked curiously. She assumed he went there often since it was his instant suggestion for lunch. And if he went there so much, he probably liked the food. He might have tried everything on the menu so he probably could direct her to what the best things to order were. "What dishes do you like best? I'm counting on you to help me get something good," she told him happily as they walked into the restaurant. |
