May 27rd, 12:00 PM Sundays were definitely the best days of his life every week. Why? Because it meant no school, no idiot teachers, and no idiot students that were around to bug the crap out of him. He could sleep in as late as he want, stay in his room and sew, and not worry about the rest of the word for the most part. Some students use Sunday as a day to study extra for school or catchup on their homework. Kanji uses it as a day to just simply lounge around. There was a time when his Sundays were preoccupied with Shadow hunting and murder investigations but that time had passed and now he's free to do what he loved most: nothing. Absolutely nothing! Of course, all things that are good are eventually ruined when his mother started asking for help in the store. Not wanting to work on a day that he has free to himself, he quickly came up with some excuse about needing to go out and left the store. He wasn't the type that helped with costumers, not yet. He would avoid that as much as possible so long as his mother is around. He had a lot of maturing and growing up to do before he'd be caught dead behind a counter. Locked in a private room and sewing? Yes. Costumer service? Hell no. He had made no plans with his friends for today. So he walked around the district for a bit as he contemplated going over to the flood plains. It always had been his favorite spot to go; especially the hill top way out of the way. It was his place. At least in his mind it was his place. He could avoid the rest of the world there so long as no one else was up there. The cool breeze was always a nice charm as well. He set his mind to go to that place and started heading toward that direction. On route he caught sight of a familiar face entering the local pharmacy. His hand immediately went to the pocket of his pants. He had been carrying a doll around for two days now on the off chance that he ran into Rio. He had contemplated just going to her place but she mentioned that she was taking care of her mother so he never wanted to bother her. He could have just dropped the doll off too but he never thought to do that till just now. Didn't matter, the girl was around. Kanji made his way into the pharmacy and peeked around the store. When he found her, he approached her, "Rio-chan! How..." His question died at his lips as he got a good look at her, "Wow, you look like crap." |

She was fine with just carrying the items with her. That worked for him since he always liked going to Aiya. He was more then happy to skip her getting rid of the things and going straight to Aiya. "Okay." He responded before following her out the door. They started out toward Aiya. He was happy to go there but it was a shame that it wasn't raining. He could go for the Rainy Day Special at the moment. It would be a good meal to start his day off. Then again, he supposed it would be bad to be raining since Rio was already sick and the last thing she would need is to be caught in the rain all over again. That and they had enough rain last week. "Hell yeah I do. Ma hates it though. I apparently spoil my appetite so I can't eat a dinner that's meant for five." His mother always seemed to cook way too much food; as if she were under the false assumption that she had four kids instead of one. He doesn't know how many times he's told his mom that she cooks too much but it didn't matter because it never went through to her. "Best dish is definitely their Rainy Day Special. But uh... they only serve it on rainy days." It was such an odd scheme of theirs but it was also effective. "If ya can eat the entire thing, you get the meal for free. Good luck though. It's a helluva big dish." Kanji has only been able to finish it once in all the times he's attempted to do it. Still, he got pretty close other times. "Most times I jus' get some ramen. Maybe some rice balls. I don't try much else. Lots of people claim everything on the menu is good but I wouldn't be able to says so for myself." Conversations involving food were always a comfortable topic for Kanji to discuss. |

A rainy day dish called the Rainy Day Special? That seemed like a rather simple to remember. She could eat nice warm food at this place...and hopefully not get caught in the downpour so she wouldn't get sick. "Then I'll have to come here when it rains," she suggested. He rather loved this place and food served on rainy days, so she didn't think there'd be problems. However, his mother would. Perhaps he should make sure she was called first. They could say he was having dinner at a friend's so she wouldn't cook a large dinner for two? Or perhaps she should invite his mother to come if the food was that good. Though Kanji wasn't a connoisseur of food. He came to the Chinese style food restuarant for ramen and rice balls. Rio nodded. "Then I guess you'll be ordering ramen and rice balls. I'll have to try some vegetable type soup..." she told him as they took their seats. She looked through the menu and moaned. "...and dumplings." She rather enjoyed dumplings, especially if there was a lot of cabbage and carrots. Carrots were probably her favorite vegetable. She kept scanning for anything else interesting to try. Since she wasn't running, she didn't really need meant even though they had hot rock grilled meat. She hadn't eaten that style of cooked meats back since high school. Yuko took her to a restaurant once claiming the food would make anyone smarter. Wakatsu Restaurant had good food but she wasn't too sure if it made her smarter. "So you've been to the city close to here, right? Does Aiya have much better ramen then those places? Are you a ramen aficionada?" she teased. Boys always seemed to like ramen. Kenjia loved ramen from Hakagure. It was his favorite thing. Rio sighed as she looked out towards the window for a moment. They used to be such good friends, not she wasn't sure if she considered him a friend or not. "There's a place near Tatsumi Port Island that sells really good ramen. They actually have a special type of ramen too. They have a pretty amazing secret menu," she explained. "I believe some kid from my school came up with it. At least I think that's what they said on the news." |

"Totally worth it." He said as a promise. The Rainy Day Special was awesome because of the quantity of food, the challenge, and the awesome feeling of accomplishment if you actually manage to finish it off. Right before you start to feel a little sick for wolfing down so much food in such a short amount of time. They entered the restaurant and found an empty booth to sit in. Normally he takes a seat at the counter in one of the stools but it seemed to be appropriate to take a seat in the booth when he was with someone, be it his normal group of friends or someone else. Kanji didn't bother with a menu since he always ordered the same thing, the people running Aiya didn't even need to ask for a order from him because they knew he'd get the same thing. Kanji narrowed his eyes a little as he tried to figure out what an 'aflcionada' was but he didn't ask. He never did. Learning new words wasn't ever in his list of things to do. Not to mention he's fairly certain he wouldn't even be able to pronounce that word properly. "I never really eaten anything in Okina 'cept maybe some beef sticks. Uh..." Wait, there had been someplace he had ramen. When he was about to mention the ramen shop in Tatsumi Port Island, Rio beat him to it. "Oh yeah! Rise-chan brought us there one time. It was pretty good. I remember that place. Uh... dunno the name of it. Teddie ate like... eight bowls of it and claimed he couldn't move afterwards. We just left him there." Beef sticks in Okina? She hadn't been looking up on Okina like she had promised to Jacob, but she wasn't sure if she really wanted to go searching for beef sticks. If anything, she was hoping to find some foriegn food. Jacob was from England so there might have been a British restaurant in the city. She would love to try eating some food like that with someone there to instruct her what to get. "You've been to Tatsumi?" she said a bit excited. "Did you have fun?" She was all smiles to be talking about her hometown. Tatsumi Port Island was a nice place. She rather enjoyed Inaba but that didn't mean she hated Tatsumi. It was just a different setting from this place. Tatsumi was crowded and fast pace. Inaba was quaint and relaxed. She felt less stressed in a place like Inaba than her life in Tatsumi. "Eight bowls at Hakagure?" she questioned. "Your friend Teddie must be a glutton. I can finish one bowl and it's really good, but I never try seconds." Rio shook her head. Eight was extremely excessive. She wondered how big this Teddie friend of his was. Rio eventually smiled. Overall, it did seem like he had a good time. And he had some good friends. Perhaps he wasn't as outcasted as he had her believe. That was nice. She hoped Kanji would have several friends in town. Adults could dislike him, but if people his own age liked him then his future would be bright and happy. Someone eventually came to take their order. While she already seemed to know what Kanji wanted, she was happy to take Rio's order of vegetable stew and steamed pork dumplings. She sat there quietly for a moment before pulling the feline cat doll Kanji made for her. She looked at Kanji with a smile. "So why the gift?" she asked. |

Did he have fun? Hmm… ”Not really.” He admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. ”Woulda been had it not been for the trip being an academic thing. Instead of sitting in our class room, we sat in someone else’s classroom to be lectured at. We didn’t have much free time to visit any places.” It was kind of sad really. They had all been looking forward to the school trip too, a chance to get out of the classroom in order to do something fun in school for a change. All they did was have new shitty professors trying to cram in as much information into their schools in a short period of time. Which, for Kanji, meant he didn’t learn anything and it ended up being a complete waste of time. ”Teddie is a fat ass.” Kanji snorted, ”Thin as a toothpick but a fat ass all the same. He steals everyone’s food and has the gull to be a mooch on top of it all. Had money, but didn’t ever pay for nothing.” Not to mention the whole thing about Teddie trying to ‘score’ with all the girls and his fabulous hair. But when he was in his suit, his Teddie suit, Kanji had fantasies of rubbing his hands through such soft looking fur and imagining what awesome things he could make out of it. Material so soft deserved to be used. He should have tried shaving Teddie while he slept, it was a shame he never thought to do so till just now. Oh well.. When the waitress came to get the orders, Kanji just nodded his head as a sign that his order hadn’t changed any. Once Rio’s order was taken, they were alone once more. She pulled her doll that he made out and looked at it for a moment. It made Kanji uncomfortable to see someone looking at his work; like they might notice a messed up seam or an uneven hem that he might not have noticed himself. He was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to his craft. Then she asked why she had received the gift. At this Kanji hesitated. It’s not that he didn’t want to tell her it was for an apology; it’s just that, it wasn’t the only reason to it. The other reason was the unknown factor. Just like the rest of his friends, he just simply made these things for them without just cause. ”Does there need to be reason to give someone a gift? I dunno. Jus’ cause?” |

So his trip to Tatsumi was like her trip to Inaba...but with lectures? She went on a sports field trip while he went on a normal class field trip. Rio sighed and shook her head. She assumed they ended up at Gekkoukan. If so, she hoped he didn't get their creepy school nurse teaching them a class. That guy was a total creeper. "Oh my school trip, I came to Inaba and stayed at the Amagi Inn," she said. "We...told ghost stories and went to the central shopping district to get snacks for the night. But mostly, we spent the weekend here practicing tennis. School vacations aren't really vacations. But our senior trip was nice and felt like a vacation." She looked at him curiously. Kanji was a senior, right? That meant he would at least get to go on a senior trip this year. She had no clue where his school was planning to go, but she was sure he'd have more fun with that than the academic trip. He talked about his friend Teddie in not really a positive light. She frowned as she stared at him. "Why be friends?" she questioned. That might have gone back to his motto of leaving everyone the way they were, but if Teddie was a rather rude and obnoxious person then it seemed like he had a trying friendship. "Just case?" she repeated. He gave her a cute little doll just because. Rio smiled. "I appreciate it. I will happily return such a thoughtful gesture." She...just couldn't sew however. Making him an intricate doll from needle and thread wasn't an option. She could cook him lunch or dinner, but he liked places like Aiya and his mother cooked him dinner. She supposed when she was out next weekend she could get him something from Okina. From their first encounter, she learned he made all his clothes but his belts. She could get him a nice belt. Or she could get him something for his needlework. She would have to think about it. "Speaking of things I need to give you... Do you mind coming to my house after this? I have something I should give you." |

”The Amagi Inn huh? Did ya meet Yukiko-senpai there?” IT must have been awhile ago when Rio went on a trip. He wasn’t sure if Yukiko-senpai would have been helping as much as she does nowadays but she lived at the inn regardless. One way or another Rio-chan could have met her. ”I dunno. Teddie is Teddie. I don’t expect much else from him.” He responded honestly. He didn’t expect Teddie to change who he is anytime soon, if ever. He didn’t expect Teddie to become some smart mature person who settles down for one person in his life. He just didn’t seem like the type that would ever do that. Then again, Teddie is technically a Shadow so it was hard to really accept the fact that he is even… well… existing really. This part he couldn’t really tell Rio for obvious reasons; the foremost reason being that she’d have no idea what the hell he’s talking about. When she asked him to go to her house he shifted in his seat and looked around the restaurant as he got slightly uncomfortable. He wasn’t sure what to make of the invitation. What do girls want to give guys when they invite them to their house? He was a guy but he was also quite naïve in this department. If he were anyone else, even Teddie, they’d have a vague idea on what she wanted to give him. ”Uh, s-sure” He responded before leaning forward a bit. His mind flashed with the word ‘scoring’ as Teddie would use it in a situation like this. He never really understood what it meant to ‘score with a girl’. He was always afraid to ask, never had the nerve to, afraid to find out; any and all those reasons. ”Um… uh… I never…” ’Been invited to a girl’s house before, alone.’ ‘Never know what he hell is going on in a girl’s mind’ ‘know what the hell you girls are talking about’ ”…scored…before?” God, he hoped she knew what the hell he was referring to because he sure as hell didn’t. Where the hell was Teddie or Yosuke? This would be a perfect time to ask them for some clarification on the matter. |

"Yukiko-senpai...?" Rio thought about it for a long while. The name sounded a bit familiar. Oh that was right! The daughter of the hostess was named Yukiko. "The middle school girl? Yes. She was nice. Told us there were ghosts in the walls. Scared Yuko," she explained with a cheerful smile. Yuko grabbed some boy from the track team to be her protector. It was cute to see her clinging to that boy. She said things like she didn't want to marry him but someone else. She was interested in another boy that junior year but she couldn't remember whatever happened to him. He said he never scored before. Rio blinked then blinked again. "Isn't that because you're not interested in sports," she muttered lowly. He had told her he didn't need sports beforehand. He was more interesting in sewing. And now he seemed to be shy to admit he never scored before. Her eyes suddenly lit up. Was he asking her to teach him how to play tennis? Rio felt honored! The girl blushed as she stared at Kanji. "I mean... You want me to show you?" Her cuffed her hands against her chest as she looked up dreamily. She had been the leader of the tennis team, barking orders at others. But she had never taken someone who knew nothing and taught them how to play. It would be a great expedition of her skills. Kanji wasn't someone who was out of shape. He could take the harsh punishment her strict regime would be on his body. "We can have private lessons. It might be a little painful since you're not use to it. But believe me, a little pain won't hurt you. The end results will be amazing. You'll score so much!" She looked so happy. She didn't even notice him. She was going to be someone's trainer. She still needed to find someone to practice again for her own training, but teaching Kanji would also be helpful. It would help her communicate better and test her knowledge on the subject. |

Kanji mimicked her previously blinking when she pointed out that he wasn’t in any sports. You had to be in sports in order to score with the ladies? This was news to him. Hell, it was probably news to Teddie. Maybe he should let Teddie—no… letting Teddie know would be a very bad thing. Very bad. But it was no wonder Teddie was doomed to failure with any girl that they came across. Kanji wondered if he should pick up a sport and if it would help him with his girl issues. Then again, he never really cared about that kind of thing to begin with. It was just all very odd to him. Sadly, Rio didn’t let the conversation stop. Her face painted in a blush as she asked him if he wanted her to show him. Show him how to score he assumed. His face went completely red at that question. ”What?” He questioned very quietly as he sunk on his side of the booth slightly. She seemed way too excited about the whole idea of scoring and his fragile mind could only think of so many possibilities of what the hell scoring involved. ”Private lessons?” Oh god, it was getting worse. How much blood could possibly go to a person’s face before it blew up? Usually he had a nosebleed at the moment but it felt like it got caught on something and was just swelling up and waiting to be a geyser of a release. Scoring was supposed to be painful but amazing? This was not sounding like a good venture. He reached for the napkins and sunk so low in his booth that he was practically under the table now. He brought the wad of napkin’s up to his nose just in time for all the blood in his face to be released from his nose. ”I-I-I gotta go piss!” He said it far too loud, practically screamed it as he ran out of the booth and toward the bathroom in Aiya. |

She looked back over at him and he was almost under the table. Rio lifted a brow as she watched him. "Kanji kun," she hummed in concern manner. What was wrong with him now? The food wasn't here so he didn't suddenly burn himself and need medical attention. He didn't have scissors to go and cut himself. She saw him pull the napkin from the table. "Kanji kun..." she said even more concerned. What was going on with him on the other side of the table? If there wasn't blood to worry about then why... Then he ran away shouting he needed to pee. Rio sat there with the most confused and horrified expression. Did he just piss himself and had to wipe it? The girl shuddered at the thought. How was she supposed to sit at a table he pissed himself at? Why would he piss himself?! He was grown boy for god's sake. "E-excuse me," she called to the waitress. The girl came over with a smile. "My friend had an accident so we have to move seats." She wasn't really looking to explain but the girl gave her a look and Rio gave her a serious look. A dead serious look. "Really need to move seats," she repeated. The girl nodded as she took the items off the table and helped Rio move to the next table. The dark haired girl glanced over at the previous booth. "Kanji you're so odd," she told herself as she looked towards the bathroom. She acquired such a weird new friend. |
