May 27rd, 12:00 PM Sundays were definitely the best days of his life every week. Why? Because it meant no school, no idiot teachers, and no idiot students that were around to bug the crap out of him. He could sleep in as late as he want, stay in his room and sew, and not worry about the rest of the word for the most part. Some students use Sunday as a day to study extra for school or catchup on their homework. Kanji uses it as a day to just simply lounge around. There was a time when his Sundays were preoccupied with Shadow hunting and murder investigations but that time had passed and now he's free to do what he loved most: nothing. Absolutely nothing! Of course, all things that are good are eventually ruined when his mother started asking for help in the store. Not wanting to work on a day that he has free to himself, he quickly came up with some excuse about needing to go out and left the store. He wasn't the type that helped with costumers, not yet. He would avoid that as much as possible so long as his mother is around. He had a lot of maturing and growing up to do before he'd be caught dead behind a counter. Locked in a private room and sewing? Yes. Costumer service? Hell no. He had made no plans with his friends for today. So he walked around the district for a bit as he contemplated going over to the flood plains. It always had been his favorite spot to go; especially the hill top way out of the way. It was his place. At least in his mind it was his place. He could avoid the rest of the world there so long as no one else was up there. The cool breeze was always a nice charm as well. He set his mind to go to that place and started heading toward that direction. On route he caught sight of a familiar face entering the local pharmacy. His hand immediately went to the pocket of his pants. He had been carrying a doll around for two days now on the off chance that he ran into Rio. He had contemplated just going to her place but she mentioned that she was taking care of her mother so he never wanted to bother her. He could have just dropped the doll off too but he never thought to do that till just now. Didn't matter, the girl was around. Kanji made his way into the pharmacy and peeked around the store. When he found her, he approached her, "Rio-chan! How..." His question died at his lips as he got a good look at her, "Wow, you look like crap." |

It was a god damn geyser coming out of his nose when he reached the bathroom. He stood in front of the sink trying to blow all the blood out as quickly as possible. It took him a good minute before he gained control of it. His face still felt pretty hot but he was fairly certain it would take long for him to lose the color to face after losing so much blood. He had a major problem though. Rio wanted to take him home and teach him how to... he swallowed the lump in his throat at the next word to end the thought... score. He pulled his phone out and contemplated texting or calling one of his other friends. He starred at his contacts for a good couple of moments before giving up on the idea. He ran his hand through his hair to make sure it was still in place. His eyes glanced down to the bloody napkins in the sink before deciding to leave them there and head back out. He made his way back to the table and lifted a brow up when he found everything and everyone was gone. Did Rio go to the bathroom too? He glanced around in confusion before he noticed Rio sitting in another booth. 'Oh.. wrong table.' he thought to himself before making his way over and taking a seat across from her once again. He looked around and felt like he was in the wrong place. No... he knew he was in the wrong spot. they definitely had been at the previous table. "Uh... yeah. Oh.. Uh... Hmm..." He stared at the table in dismay. What the hell should he say to her now? He wasn't sure he could accompany her to her house and learn about the whole scoring thing. "So uh... wow, the food is takin' awhile, don't ya think. I mean, not that I've been keepin' track or nothing but I don't think it's takin' this long before. Ya know? Too long I think. Yeah." |

Kanji returned rather exhausted looking. She couldn't but give him a weird and disturbed look. WHAT THE HECK WAS HE DOING IN THERE? She couldn't help but stare at him. He was acting so weird that it was suspicious. She wasn't even sure she wanted to know what he had done in the bathroom considering how exhausted he looked. Rio sneezed as he started about the food. Perhaps it was best to avoid all those questions piling in her head. "Right...food," she muttered. She pulled out the pills from her pockets and took them with water. Rio stared at Kanji for a long while. "So...those private lessons," she muttered in a rather unamused tone, "I can't teach you if you have bladder control issues. You can't run off in the middle of things like that." If they were training like running up the local mountain, she couldn't have him try to run away to pee. It would be too awkward and she'd just leave him behind. Rio shook her head. "I'll need your full attention and cooperation. I'm going to have to train your body, after all." The girl sighed and shook her head. His body was fit but it wasn't in peek tennis form. He would have to build back muscles. He did have an advantage to being tall. It meant he wouldn't have to take too many strides. And he could probably handle any volleys. She nodded then shook her head. She just wasn't sure if Kanji was someone who could be dedicated enough. It wasn't sewing so she would have to instill the passion of tennis within him. But how was she supposed to do that? Rio sighed. "I guess the hard part will be getting you to love it so much that you always want to do it. I-I don't know if I'm good enough to do it." |

She was back onto the private lessons again. Was she really hung up on this? He wasn't sure he had enough blood in his body to maintain a conversation of this subject. Hell, he wasn't sure he was ever going to reach a certain point in his life where he'd be able to 'score with the ladies' (as Teddie likes to put it) and not die or faint. Then she complained about his bladder issues. "I don't have bladder issues!" He exclaimed. What the heck was she talking about? It's not like he goes around wetting himself or something. Annoyance replaced embarrassment for the time being. But Rio just kept on talking about getting his body trained up enough and then getting him to love it so much that he'd always want to do it. It sounded so bad to his ears. He wasn't sure he wanted to do it now. Not with her, hell, not with anybody. Wasn't it something you were supposed to be with or want to be with? He covered his face with his hands and tried to clear his mind and not think too strongly on their conversation. Was this really an appropriate place to have this conversation. "Why the hell is so much work involved with scoring? I thought people just friggin decide to do it and they just... I dunno... do it." He said into his hands. The whole process of 'scoring' sounded far too exhausting for someone like Kanji to ever go through with. |

He screamed he didn’t have bladder issues and she stared at him coldly in the face. He was the person screaming not just two minutes ago about how he had to go to the bathroom grabbing napkins as he sunk out of his chair. Peeing on yourself in a booth proved her had bladder problems. As she explained to him the only problems she could see with teaching him tennis, Kanji said weird things. She wondered if he even understood what the point of tennis was. ”Because when you’re trying to score someone else is trying to make sure you don’t score,” Rio muttered exhausted. She shook her head then placed her hand on her hand to rest it. She glanced over at the boy. ”I would think even you knew that. It’s like a universal basic of scoring anything.” It didn’t matter if it was tennis, baseball, soccer, hockey, volleyball, or basketball. Even in kendo, someone was there opposing you, stopping you from scoring. Rio sighed as she eyed the shy looking teenage boy. He seemed troubled and they hadn’t even started training yet. Rio looked over towards the window. If he was that scared, he didn’t really need to play some sport and score. People could live their life without ever scoring a point. ”You know, if you’re scared, you don’t have to do it. Scoring can be pretty hard. If you have fears and stuff, maybe you should just leave it to the professionals,” she advised. He could join a club at school to learn to score, but she wasn’t sure if he’d be comfortable with hat either. He was a weird boy and she never was sure what was going through his mind. But he was large and intimidating looking to the average person. She couldn’t imagine anyone just letting Kanji score so he could say that he scored a point. |

Well, he knew someone was always there trying to stop you from scoring. For Teddie it was always the person he was trying to score with. For Kanji, his worst enemy was himself and his inability to communicate with people. ”Uh… right.” He dropped his hands from his face and started glancing out the window to his right.. Soon Rio said something that was immediately something touchy for him. ”S’not scared! I’m not!” His face tinged pink at the thought, ”I can score if I want. Ain’t no problem with it. Jus’ never done it before. I’ll score before Teddie and Yosuke-senpai, jus’ to shut them up. I just..” Was completely and utterly terrified of what scoring implied and what was needed. If it hurt so much to score then why was everyone around him so hell bent on the subject to begin with? He just didn’t understand the thought process on that one. ”…really… don’t…. know… if scoring with girls as great as everyone says.” This last part he said in a hushed whisper to ensure no one could hear them; afraid to have this conversation in such a crowded and open area like they were. He didn't know why they were even speaking about the subject to begin with in Aiya. |

She looked at him confused. Did he hang out with a group that didn’t play any type of sports? Well, if anything he probably stood a better chance of scoring on them than someone who actually played. If Teddie was as rotund and lazy as he described, he’d have an advantage. As for this Yosuke person, she had no idea. But if they were all evenly matched… ”Why not try scoring on them then?” she suggested as she turned back to him. He started whispering lowly and she raised a brow. Rio leaned in closer, almost bending over the table to hear him. All she got was the end part. ”…as great as everyone says? Uh,” she moaned. Rio rubbed the back of her neck as she moved back to her side. She was competitive and liked to win. Scoring was GREAT for her. It proved all her hard work and determination had paid off. It essentially justified everything she did. But for Kanji, she didn’t see that as being true. ”I don’t know if you’ll even like it,” she moaned as she looked at him with her face on her hands again. Kanji was weird. But he seemed like a delicate kind of boy at times. He did make a cute little cat doll for her. Rio smiled before reaching over and ruffling his hair. ”You shouldn’t worry about it so much. I mean, if you think about scoring the whole time while playing, you’re bound to mess up. Instead, you should just be giving it your all and scoring will come.” |

Why not try scoring with Teddie and Yosuke? ”Wh-what’s that S’pose to mean? I ain’t like that! I ain’t scoring with dudes.” What the hell, why would she even imply that? Did she think he was like that because of his sewing? Did he give off that impression. She wasn’t with the group when he had his shadow experience so she shouldn’t know anything about the issues he had back then. There were plenty of them, and he still sort of had them. She gave him a pat on the head as if he were some child in an attempt to reassure him that all would be fine if he would stop worrying about scoring the whole time. But at the same time to give it his all so that he could score. Wasn’t that a bit hypocritical of her to state? Don’t worry about scoring but try really hard to do so? His brain just might combust right then and there. ”I…” The food arrived and Kanji immediately felt saved from the impending doom that their conversation was leading him toward. He instantly felt better when the food was placed in front of him. "Finally! Some food. It friggin took them long enough." |

She couldn’t help but wonder about his fascination with scoring. She had never met someone so interesting in scoring and not really playing the game. Rather, she knew people who wanted to look cool and be instant professionals without the hard work and training, but they never wanted to just score. ”Are we even t-” she started but then the food was placed in front of them. They both seemed more concerned about eating rather than the conversation from before. She looked at her large bowl of soup and her steamed dumpling. They were so big, white, and fluffy. She picked one up with her hand and took a bite. It was so good! The bread seemed be like a mix between mocha and cake. The meat inside was pretty sweet took with carrots. She rather loved the thing. ”This place is really good,” she moaned happily as she finished the rest of her dumpling. The whole thing made her want to go home and make baos. She could make cute pig shaped baos… Her mother liked pigs and would appreciate the time that went into making such a thing. ”Want to try one?” she asked as she moved the other two steamed dumplings towards him. ”They’re really good. You might like them.” |

"Told ya" He responded with a full mouth when she complimented the place. Aiya, in his opinion, was the best place to go in Inaba. The food was awesome, the people were awesome, and the Rainy Day Special was awesome. There was no other place in the world like it in his mind. When she offered up two of her dumplings, he cradled his bowl and pulled it closer to himself in response. "Nuh-uh. I got this." He responded. He didn't want to eat her stuff, he didn't want to spoil his appetite for his awesome food. He also didn't want to eat anything that came from her. Sharing food with a sick person was just asking for you to get sick. Kanji knew that much. He lifted up his chopsticks and pointed at her with them, "'Sides, you're sick. You should eat all you can get. Ma says ya got to eat lots of food if ya wanna get better." At least, he's fairly certain she had said that. Or was it drink a lot of fluids..? It didn't matter, either way he wasn't going to be touching any of her food. He didn't have any desire to try new things from Aiya when he's more then happy with his usual. |

He didn’t want her food because she was sick so she should eat as much as possible? That didn’t add up at all. ”I didn’t touch either of those two,” she said with a frown. Rio shook her head. She was pretty sure he was scared of a cold. That was a bit funny. She never thought boys were scared of colds. She glanced away back at the waitress for a bit. The girl waitress coughed. Rio raised a brow as a funny idea popped in her head. ”Besides, the waitress is sick. She probably got her sick germs on your food,” Rio teased in a rather neutral tone. She was really bad with joking tones. The older girl turned back to Kanji. She folded her arms nodded. ”Or is it you’re just scared of getting girl germs? Or maybe my germs? Are you scared of my girl germs,” she said in her normal tone. She was told by an old friend that she was rather rude when joking like that but she always saw it as funny. Boys shouldn’t have been scared of girls. ”So if I touch you food, you won’t want it?” she teased. Instead of reaching over, she went for her soup and started to eat it. It felt nice and warming. It was so warming that she finally took off her jacket. The soup made her not need it. Edited by Rio Iwasaki, Mar 12 2012, 11:32 AM.
