May 27rd, 12:00 PM Sundays were definitely the best days of his life every week. Why? Because it meant no school, no idiot teachers, and no idiot students that were around to bug the crap out of him. He could sleep in as late as he want, stay in his room and sew, and not worry about the rest of the word for the most part. Some students use Sunday as a day to study extra for school or catchup on their homework. Kanji uses it as a day to just simply lounge around. There was a time when his Sundays were preoccupied with Shadow hunting and murder investigations but that time had passed and now he's free to do what he loved most: nothing. Absolutely nothing! Of course, all things that are good are eventually ruined when his mother started asking for help in the store. Not wanting to work on a day that he has free to himself, he quickly came up with some excuse about needing to go out and left the store. He wasn't the type that helped with costumers, not yet. He would avoid that as much as possible so long as his mother is around. He had a lot of maturing and growing up to do before he'd be caught dead behind a counter. Locked in a private room and sewing? Yes. Costumer service? Hell no. He had made no plans with his friends for today. So he walked around the district for a bit as he contemplated going over to the flood plains. It always had been his favorite spot to go; especially the hill top way out of the way. It was his place. At least in his mind it was his place. He could avoid the rest of the world there so long as no one else was up there. The cool breeze was always a nice charm as well. He set his mind to go to that place and started heading toward that direction. On route he caught sight of a familiar face entering the local pharmacy. His hand immediately went to the pocket of his pants. He had been carrying a doll around for two days now on the off chance that he ran into Rio. He had contemplated just going to her place but she mentioned that she was taking care of her mother so he never wanted to bother her. He could have just dropped the doll off too but he never thought to do that till just now. Didn't matter, the girl was around. Kanji made his way into the pharmacy and peeked around the store. When he found her, he approached her, "Rio-chan! How..." His question died at his lips as he got a good look at her, "Wow, you look like crap." |

Who would he ask for advice? Rise would likely coo over the whole thing and would attempt at playing matchmaker in the worst possible ways. Yukiko-Senpai didn’t have experience and neither did Chie-Senpai. Yosuke-Senpai didn’t seem like the best person to ask advice from and Kanji would rather die then approach Teddie. Yu-Senpai seemed like he had had plenty of experience with the whole thing but Kanji didn’t want to bother him with anything else. It was bad enough he had helped Kanji out as much as he had during their investigation. No… there really wasn’t anyone for him to ask. He supposed the only thing he could do was do it himself but that’ll never happen either. Fortunately, Rio-Senpai seemed like she wanted to get off the topic of relationships and Kanji is more then happy to follow that point. He didn’t like certain topics because they made him uncomfortable. Relationship talks were one of them. He recalled Rise always talking to him about her raging crush on Yu-Senpai. For some reason she always felt the need to talk to Kanji about it. It’s not like Kanji ever had anything useful to say about her situation. He got the impression that she just needed to talk to someone about it. He just didn’t understand why it was him and not Chie-Senpai or Yukiko-senpai. Perhaps they all had a raging crush on their leader at some point? The food and bill came and Rio whipped out cash to pay for everything. Kanji, seeing a free meal out of it all just accepted not having to pay. If he didn’t have to buy his own lunch then he’d take the free meal. Although, it sort of reminded him partially that he wasn’t sure what they were on at the moment. On a date, one of them is supposed to pay for the meal. Wait… or is it that the guy is supposed to pay for everything? He wasn’t sure. He hadn’t exactly been on a date before. ”Uh… yeah.” He looked down at his empty bowl. He stood up from the booth and took a moment to stretch out before coming up with the next question. ”So uh, we’re just going to your place then, huh?” |

He wanted to confirm plans and she nodded. The plan was to go home and take food to her mother. She could let her mother eat something nice as she returned Kanji his jacket. If he cared to stick around or go home, she didn’t mind. The most important thing was to make sure he had his jacket. After all, the longer she kept it the longer he was without it. Uniforms were extremely important at school. Back during her high school years, the teachers were pretty relaxed with the dress code but she made sure to wear hers properly. She didn't wear a sweater or anything on top of it like a couple of the other girls. Her skirt was the exact length it needed to be and her jacket was always on during the winter months. "Unless you need to stop somewhere? If not, then it's straight to my house and probably into my room." She was sure it was in her room. She had done clothes to make sure to wash the dirty water and mud off of his blazer. She didn't want to return some dirty and downtroughten item to him. It seemed fairly rude, especially when he had given her the jacket to keep her warm and protected from the rain. He had given it to her in a good condition. She was the person who got it dirty and soaked... Rio sneezed. Though, it seemed his efforts went to waste since she ended up sick at the end. It was really her own fault. At least she didn't feel terrible. The soup from Aiya really did make her feel a whole lot better. "So what do you usually do on Sundays since you don't spend the day perfecting your skills? You weren't headed to that one city and I interupted you...were you?" she asked as they exited the restuarant and she walked beside him to her house. It would be pretty terrible if she interrupted his plans just because she thought he had nothing better to do. Edited by Rio Iwasaki, Mar 21 2012, 05:38 PM.

"Oh yeah? Uh... sounds cool." He tried to sound uninterested but the fact was that she just mentioned that they would go straight up to her room. He's never been invited to a girl's room before. It was as foreign to him as another country. The only other room he's ever been in was Yu's where he put on some half assed puppet show for him. He wasn't sure what he was on that day to make him think that was a good idea but he ended up doing it. It was kind of fun at the time but looking back on it, it's sort of embarrassing to admit he did something like that. Maybe he was just trying to recapture a childhood play date he never had as a child. He followed her out and as they were on their way she asked if she interrupted his plans for the day. "Not really. Don't do much of anything since-" Well, she wouldn't know about the investigation and he wasn't supposed to talk about it. Besides, who would believe him that he had been part of a team that had captured a homicidal maniac who had been a detective in Inaba? He shrugged his shoulder nonchalantly, "...since I take these days to relax." Honestly, he pretty much takes everyday to relax, or tries to. Sundays he just tries to do absolutely nothing the entire time. "Do you uh... run everyday?" He wasn't sure if that was all she did. She said something about training at some point since they've known each other. But it's not the kind of training he was familiar with. Training for him involved going to the T.V. world and fighting shadows. He doubted it was the same. |

He seemed to understand the plan, which was good. Then again, it was a pretty obvious thing. He probably was being nice and waiting for her to mention his jacket since he would want it back. He needed it for his school. Besides, there wasn’t really anything to do at her house. She wasn’t someone who entertained guest often. ”Good,” she replied. He also wasn’t busy today. She wasn’t disturbing his plans. Essentially, everything was going good for her. Rio smiled, their little run-in with each other worked out in both their favors. She found him and could return his items, and he was able to get a free meal from it. It probably was considered a win-win situation. They didn’t walk in silence either. She supposed light conversation was a good thing. But his question was a bit weird. ”Yes…when I’m healthy. I train daily,” she answered confused. She wouldn’t go running right now because she was still ill. Doing it now might make her health decline and she could relapse. That would take more time away from her training. ”Why?” she questioned. She looked up at sky smiling. Training was important to her. It was something she knew she had to do since she wanted to improve. As the saying went, practice made perfect and Rio so wanted to be perfect. ”Training is important. It helps me stay in top shape when I’m not competing.” She had to do something since she couldn’t get in a proper practice. There were no coaches around to push her so she had to push herself. She had done well at being self-disciplined since her high school advisor was so terrible. ”Don’t you do things to keep in practice?” |

Daily training seemed like such a hassle to him. He couldn't see himself doing that. Even during the investigation they didn't train daily. They paced themselves so they wouldn't be burned out in case something happened where they would need to fight some badass shadow that required more effort then the norm. Or when a new location was found in the t.V. world with new foes that they weren't used to. They were cautious... well, he wasn't very cautious, he was more of a 'trial and error' type of guy rather then a strategy type of person who thought things through. "I dunno. Jus' wonderin'" He responded when she asked why he wanted to know. He was just curious mainly since every time he ran into her it was during her run in the morning. Well, except for today since she's obviously sick. Apparently she needed to keep training for some sort of competition. He didn't really ask. It was a sport thing he assumed but he was never into sports so he didn't care. He was the type that would rather sit off to the during a game and... knit rather then watch or play a game. Not even sit off to the side and read a book like some other kids, he hates reading. "Not really. Well... not to practice." Was that confusing? "I do things cuz I feel like it. Not cuz I wanna stay uh.... in shape." He wasn't sure what the correct terminology would be to use in his case. Staying in shape was a physical thing, right? So that didn't apply to sewing. Whatever. "Most I do to exercise is beat those punk ass gangs that were hangin' 'round mom's shop. Taught those bastards a thing or two." Granted, that had been nearly a year ago. Gangs hadn't been hanging around the shop all that much since then. Ah, but it certainly had been fun to watch those punks crying to their mommas after the thrashing he gave. It brought a satisfied smile to his face thinking back on it, even now. |

They weren't anything alike. And while she didn't necessarily agree with his choices, she supposed there wasn't anything she could do. She didn't know how to inspire someone to sew since she didn't know anything about sewing. But Kanji seemed to do well with things. He did make her the cute little doll. All she needed was a chain and it could go on her phone. It was a cute friendly gesture on his part, but it was still something he made that used his skill and thus kept his skills sharp. She supposed everyone had their own way. But his own ways were...weird. She could understand him deciding to make his own clothes and dolls, but what did beating up punk ass gangs have to do with things? She didn't understand it at all. In fact, she was pretty sure she was against it. "Huh...? I thought you weren't the violent type," she asked as she looked at him questionably. "But you randomly get in fights with gang members? That's so..." What was the word? Weird was the word that came to mind whenever she thought of him but it wasn't the best word in this case. She couldn't really decide. Contradictary? Exasperating? Odd? She eyed him carefully. Was he smiling? Rio shook her head and sighed. "...troublesome. You shouldn't smile about such things." |

He gave her a strange look when she commented that she thought he wasn't the violent type. Where had she gotten that impression from? Well, it's not like he randomly got into fights for no reason. He fought when people pissed him off or when they deserved a beating. "Troublesome? Hmm..." He felt oddly smug for some reason. Was it a bit strange to think that someone made gangs go away as troublesome? "Gangs are troublesome. I cleaned out the house. They don't mess with no one no more." He smacked a fist into an open palm to give emphasis to that point. It was something to smile about in his mind. To be honest, it wasn't the fact that he got to beat on some punks that made him happy, it's the fact that he made a difference. Sure it got him a bad reputation but now the damn gangs weren't terrorizing the shopping district anymore. "'sides. That was a year ago. S'not like I go 'round lookin' for trouble. They were causing trouble for my ma and the cops couldn't do shit. I got things done." The same could be said about the whole investigation as well. The cops couldn't do a damn thing then either. He and his friends got that all figured out as well. |

She felt like she should have smacked him and gave him a mean look. Gangs were troublesome people and needed to be dealt with, but she didn't like how happy he was to boast about his fights with them. She kept a soured look on her face. She didn't support violence, but she wasn't really a pacifist either. Since she didn't know the whole situation, she really shouldn't have tried to decide if Kanji was being out of line or saving the day. It was really all the context of it that made her frown. He looked so proud to say he beat up a gang. How troublesome. "I supposed that's good and such since the police couldn't handle it but...it still sounds troublesome. I'm sure doing such reckless things made your mother worry," she complained with a deep sigh. For some reason, she couldn't help but see her friendship with Kanji going well. It was like he was someone made completely different than her. She had meet someone similar to her and got off on such a nice foot, but with Kanji it was completely different. He was brash, uncoth, loud, and sometimes a bit obnixious. He had a good heart and was a kind person overall, but all those other traits... "You know, you're a weird boy. I don't think I've known anyone like you in Tatsumi." |

He's sure he did make his mother worry. Hell, he knew he made his mother worry because his mother worried over everything. The smallest of things she worried over him. Then again, he worried about her pretty easily. He practically freaks out when she's not at the shop without having dropped a note or a call to him to let him know where she went. "Moms always worry. S'no big deal." He responded easily. If he was concerned with worrying his mom then he would never go outside nor would he have ever helped his friends. Most likely he never really would have faced his true self either. He'd be locked away in his room afraid of the world and what it could view him as. Then Rio called him weird and he felt his temper raise a notch. He never did like that word. There were a few words in the language that he didn't appreciate being directed toward him: odd, strange, weird, queer, freak... Those words just hit home in a way that no other insult did. "Yeah, well s'you. There plenty of weird people out there. 'least I didn't sit 'round on my ass an' did nothing 'bout the shit that was going on. People 'round here don't get things done. They jus' accept what's what and do nothing. If it's weird for me to actually get some stupid ass gang to piss off then I'm weird. Personally, I think it's weird nobody does shit 'bout that kind of stuff. Not right, with all the kids 'round here. Y'think people would 'least look out for them." |

He dismissed his mother's worries, but that seemed to be a normal boy thing. Boys were typically less sensitive to those types of things. Girls grew up to be mothers, so they could relate better. Besides, some girls were worriers. Rio didn't think of herself as that type, but her friend seemed to be the type to worry over little things. She even worried about not having a boyfriend and fulfilling some secret pack she made with herself to marry a certain male. It was rather funny since Yuko held control over who she married and dated. Sometimes girls just seemed to worry for the sake of worrying. But then Kanji got riled up over the gang issue. She didn't understand that either. He did make some sense to her. "I agree. Nothing happens unless people do it," she said nodding. She wouldn't get better unless she pushed herself. Problems in a community never got solved unless the community did things. But still, why did he need to take it on for himself to fight gang members. It was dangerous. "Maybe weird isn't the best word. Maybe it's unusual. I don't know many people who want to play the hero to little kids and the community by using their fists." There were boxers at her school, but she never remembered ever hearing about Gekkoukan's golden boy dealing out street justice or any teenage boy deciding to clear ruffians out. There were always unsavory people hanging around the back alleyways around Tatsumi. She had even heard of murders happening around there. "But you know, if you were beating up gangs, that might have been why the cops suspected you that one time. Which is very annoying. If you were just out to do good deeds, those cops should have recognized it," she said frustrated. It was annoying how many adults set bad examples or got silly notions in their heads without facts to prove it. The police were always supposed to look for the truth. To just assume things made them seem lazy. |
