Xero~ The Alluring Mute / Narcissus~ The Seductive Persona
May 30 ~ 2012 ~ 3:15 P.M.

Xero was feeling very lightheaded. Rather like he was drunk, actually. His face was tinged light pink but radiant, and each step was rather bouncy. Narcissus was watching him with great amusement, but for once the mute didn't mind. He was in such a good mood that he took out a large chunk of his savings to buy something nice for himself, give himself a little treat. One that he hadn't had for a very long time, too. There was still this little cloud of fright that this was all just another ruse - or Laito would fall for someone else, but the rest was a huge ball of jealously protective happiness.

He had to physically restrain himself from skipping because he didn't want to be put away in a mental hospital. He had never felt so happy but so darn scared at the same time, which was why he was going to get himself some chocolate. Oh, yes, chocolate, he hadn't had that for weeks, mm..

Please stop thinking those disturbing sounds, Narcissus murmured pleasantly. Xero only smiled, although he couldn't help noting how distracted his Persona seemed to be as well whenever he was with Laito. It was like Narcissus went off somewhere because there was always a distinct lack of sarcastic remarks. Well?

Your business is Laito, my business is..wouldn't you like to know~? Narcissus hummed.

No fair. You get to read my mind.

He entered the sweet shop and shot straight to the chocolate section, almost running into the shelves. All the terrible chocolate were at feet to head height for him, most likely the shopkeeper wanted to sell off all the untouched chocolate while leaving the good, sure to be sold ones at the top for later. Xero pouted, realizing he was too short to reach the brand he so liked. Looking around for a ladder, he groaned silently when he realized there was none. Pulling up his sleeves and adjusting his clothes into a less ruffled manner, he got up on tiptoes and stretched, trying to avoid falling into any unlucky people behind or beside him.

Xero bowed his head politely, in his own silent way of saying it was nice to meet the boy too. Lately, he had been meeting many people after Narcissus arose from him. It was actually quite pleasant, really, that he had been making so many friends with many different kind-hearted people. Granted, half were just acquaintances right now (Mitsuru Kirijo, shiver) but he had made good friends with Miyako and was very close to one special friend which he simply could not seem to stop running into everywhere he went.

Carefully keeping the chocolate in his jacket after paying it, he smiled understandingly. This was the first one to have, well, asked so directly - actually, the only one who asked at all - but didn't mind since he was used to it (Used to people asking in a far ruder manner anyway) and had already prepared an answer beforehand.

Yes, he wrote. I've been incapable of talking since I birth.

He tore off the paper and handed it to the boy, looking at his notebook for a while. He had been using this to talk since he could remember. He may have looked stupid at times, and it was definitely slightly slower than talking - but it was much better than just doing nothing and standing there dumbly. It was extremely frustrating not to be able to voice his anger in the rare times he got angry though. He was invariably reminded of Violet. He'd only look stupid if he mouthed words angrily and even more stupid if he wrote in all capitals.

Yukimaru payed for his chocolate as he read the note that Xero gave him. Since birth? Yukimaru thought to himself. Damn, that's a long time to go without talking. Yukimaru couldn't really say anything in response, not sure what to say. He wanted to express sympathy, but not in a way that stepped on any toes. "Er, that kind of sucks." Yukimaru said, the words coming out awkwardly. Okay, that could have been said much better. Yukimaru thought to himself. "I mean, you obviously get by without talking, but still, it would kind of weird not even knowing what you're own voice sounds like." Yukimaru said.

Damn, okay, this is just plain awkward. Yukimaru thought. Quick, quick, how to salvage the situation . . . Yukimaru thought to himself. He didn't want to ask more questions and make Xero have to write a bunch more, he quickly tried to think of something to say.

Ask him about the weather! he heard Chernobog suggest.

"Nice weather we're having, right? Yukimaru asked, then realizing it was a question. Goddammit, Chernobog! Yukimaru mentally exclaimed. At least it was a yes or no question, Xero wouldn't have to write in his notebook to answer, just nod or shake his head. Small blessings . . . Yukimaru thought to himself.

Narcissus snorted as Xero smiled, nodding. Well, he had. Until he found out for himself what he sounded like. He owed it to Narcissus, who didn't look all that useless after all - well, he was right now since there was no fog and all the seductive Persona could do was tease and torture him. He had hoped for many things in his life, but he had never ever expected something like this - a restoration of sorts of his voice, and some magical being inside him that would come forth to do battle with forces of evil. Sounded like some kind of television show, honestly.

We must come from the naughty channels, then, Narcissus giggled.

Shut it.

It was sort of hard sometimes though. The usual butcher and fishmonger was very much used to it now though, and in fact each had a special hook on which Xero hung his notes up on whenever he ran errands for his mother.

Xero smiled again and nodded, although he felt a the boy was acting a little oddly. Either Yukimaru was trying to hit on him (It was because that was what those men said whenever they awkwardly tried to ask a girl out on those TV shows after all. Narcissus roared with laughter) or he was, well..interested..in the weather?

Yukimaru must have a hard time with his girlfriend. Or girlfriends. Xero shrugged to himself.

He looked outside and at the sky. It was nice. Like the skies were rejoicing at his first big success, too.

What do I say, what do I say? Yukimaru asked himself. Shut the hell up, Chernobog, you're going to say something fuckin' stupid anyways! Yukimaru coughed a little awkwardly. "Er, Sorry about this." Yukimaru said. "I'm just not great with people, or maybe people just aren't great with me, either way I'm not good at talking to people, and I'm just not sure how to react to the whole 'mute' thing on top of it." Yukimaru exhaled. Hey, honesty is the best policy, right? Yukimaru asked himself. Okay, hopefully things will get less awkward now.

Eeeeeh, they won't.

I swear to god, Chernobog, in a trunk, off a cliff.

How do you plan on doing that when thou art I, and I art though?

. . . Shut up, Chernobog. Yukimaru detested it when his persona brought up a good point like that. It felt like he was bitch-slapping himself. "Hey, it actually is pretty nice out isn't it?" Yukimaru said. "Well, I mean if you actually tan well, which I don't." There was no love lost there. Yukimaru had never seen the point in tanning. It made it more likely to get cancer, didn't it? "And if you're not trying to transport meltable candy several blocks." Yukimaru said. "Hm. I take back what I said about the weather being nice.

Xero looked at the boy for a long time with a solemn face. Although he looked serious right now, he felt like he had broken a few ribs trying not to burst out laughing. He was desperately refraining his laugh for fear of offending the boy and he just knew he would feel bad if he laughed. The boy had been nice and helped him after all. What Yukimaru didn't know that the mute himself was one of the most socially awkward person he knew, and he was quite sure that he was far worse than the boy when it came to talking to others. He hadn't even been able to talk to Laito without feeling like a fool.

He nodded again, but he couldn't stop a soft giggling sound. Tan? If only. He never got out often in the first place, and when he did he never stayed out in the Sun long enough to tan. Still, he felt like he looked okay like this. Smiling, he wondered if the whole fighting thing was over and done with. He had went through..three difficult creatures until now. And he hadn't encountered any Shadows for quite some time now, and was - frankly - scared to. What if he lost Laito? He didn't want to die, and he certainly didn't want Laito to die.

Ah great, what the hell did I do now? Yukimaru asked himself, inwardly scowling due to the look on Xero's face.

Well, you are being a bit odd.

Oh right, like I've ever been normal. Yukimaru scoffed sarcastically back to his persona. . . . why do I argue with my persona so much? Talk about internal conflict.

It was difficult having a conversation with someone who was mute. You did a lot of talking without getting a response more than their head nodding most of the time. It was probably difficult trying to carry on a conversation whilue muted too.

"H-hey, what the hell's so funny!? Yukimaru asked. Despite the somewhat hostile language, his tone was more exasperated than upset or hostile. Argh, what did I say now?! Oh come on, I can't even talk to someone who can barely respond without a notebook without screwing up!

Spend more time with Kumiko.

Okay, you get a cookie for good ideas. I mean if you could eat cookies. Yukimaru thought to himself. "So, Xero, got any hobbies?" Yukimaru asked. "I actually don't really have any. Well, I guess besides playing the piano, but it hard enough for me to find a piano to play that I don't get to do it too often."

Xero bit his lip and shook his head again, wondering if this was how people like Miyako felt when they talked to him. But then again, Miyako wasn't awkward was she? He was very different from everyone else, and couldn't help feeling amused again as he watched the boy. He sort of reminds me of Laito, he mused and Narcissus snorted.

Xero thought for a while. Hobbies. Reading came to mind at once. That was all he ever did, right? Read. Xero couldn't help becoming aware that he was an extremely boring person. He frowned for a while, realizing Narcissus hadn't really been lying whenever he called Xero dull and drab. He crossed his arms, feeling a little indignant. It wasn't like he could help it.

Reading, he wrote at last with no other choices he could see. Strange - he expected Yukimaru to like something like..football, or basketball. Not playing the piano, which seemed a little...odd. For someone as tough-looking as Yukimaru, at least. People who had hobbies usually liked to do it a lot, didn't they?

I'd like to see you play some time, he wrote. He'd never seen a person play a piano before, he'd only heard them on the radio accompanied by many other instruments and someone singing. It was a bit annoying though, since it reminded him of his own lack of voice.

Reading, that's not too surprising I guess. But is that really a hobby? Yukiamru asked himself. I mean, well, I guess it is, but- Yukiamru's train of thought was once again interrupted by his persona.

Less monologue, more conversation. Chernobog said.

Geez, I'm getting there, Yukimaru replied before tagging onto the end of the sentence. Prick. Yukimaru only slightly realized at the moment he said that that in insulting his persona, overall, he was also insulting himself.

Yukimaru shrugged a little when Xero said he wanted to watch him play piano. "Well, I mean, it's not like I'm the next Chopin or anything. Hell, I can't even read music for the most part, all I can really do is play by ear." Yukimaru said. That was about how he ahd learned to play, messing around on the keys, learning which key matched which sound and which sound matched up with what he heard. Yukimaru never really liked the idea of learning sheet music, but now it felt like a weakness that he could only play one way, having to entirely ignore the other way. Ugh, what am I saying? I'd have to get lessons, change how I thinkabout things and all that bullshit. not worth it. Yukimaru thought to himself.

Xero, Xero, Xero, Narcissus laughed, and Xero glared at him internally. Making so many friends lately. Looks like the antisocial mute is getting his flirt on!

The antisocial mute will castrate you tonight.

Not the scepter and the crown jewels, please!

Xero tilted his head slightly, looking puzzled. Chopping? Who was chopping what? He nodded politely, although he understood nothing that came out of Yukimaru's mouth. And then, he was lost for words. What should he say next? What should he ask? How should he behave? Socializing was unbelievably hard. He couldn't just restrict himself to so little friends though, he supposed. Narcissus's words had some sense. He couldn't go running to Laito all the time. What if...Laito ever left him?

He shook his head and looked out of the window. No, no, no. His mind kept wandering and kept thinking horrible thoughts. Today was a nice happy day, and he would darn well enjoy himself. He pulled out the chocolate from his pocket, opened it and popped it in his mouth, sucking and nibbling in an almost fierce manner. There better not be any fog today. Nothing could ruin this nice, perfect day. He looked at the sky, almost threateningly.

That's right, Xero, Narcissus snorted. You tell Mother Nature.
