May 24th 3:30 p.m. A cool rain continued to fall in the Tatsuhime Shrine, the droplets tapping lightly the ground all around, creating a gentle chorus that echoed in the sacred ground. Besides the rain, the shrine was relatively quiet and empty. Yet. . . A pair of figures sat beneath a tree in the corner of the shrine. One of them, was Ren, a girl with silvery hair, green eyes, the right eye being covered by a lock of hair, wearing a white hoodie with a black hood which was clearly a size too large for one as thin as herself, also wearing a pair of black baggy shorts and a pair of worn shoes with a black&white color scheme. The other figure, which was curled up beside her, was her faithful canine compainion, a gray furred, green eyed dog named Kiba. Ren sat with her back against the tree, her hood covering her head against the rain. She rested an arm upon a bent knee, while her other arm sat upon the wet grass beside her. She had previously dozed off while listening to the rain falling around her, while Kiba remained awake to look out for any sort of trouble. Ren eyes eventually fluttered back open, and looked up at the rainy skies. She felt. . .lonely. But it was strange. It was always only herself and Kiba, and yet she never felt this way before. She wondered why. Ren sat there, pondering this, zoning out as she did so. |

Suki~ The Innocent Adolescent / Aether~ The Barrier Persona
|
Suki was feeling rather cheerful, despite the drizzle. Someone had called him a cute nun while he was in his priest garbs! It was strange how people kept referring to him as a girl, but since that meant he was very pretty he didn't mind much. People were abnormally fond of touching and petting his head though. It made him feel like a kitty. It was late now, but he went back to the shrine to make sure nothing was getting ruined by the rain. As he tottered up the stairs, he caught sight of what looked like a ghost and a dog under a tree. Puzzled, he peered and realized it was a girl and a dog. He didn't mind dogs and puppies, but his love was for kittens and cats. He also really liked wolves and foxes. Dogs seemed to fall short in interest, somehow. He stared for a while more before slipping into the bushes, extracting his simple brown dress. He didn't wear pants or anything underneath this, but it was a whole lot more comfy which was good. Staying in his priest garbs for the whole day was a terrible idea. He changed quickly, trying not to hurt the bush by not rustling the leaves too much and stepped out, slipping off his shoes as well. Stretching, he skipped forward towards the girl and her dog, intending to ask if there was any specific request she wanted. |

Ren's gaze tilted back down from the rain filled sky at the sound of bare feet skipping along the wet ground toward her, breaking her zoned out state. Kiba's ears twitched a little as it raised it's head to the sound as well. A child wearing a simple brown dress approached them, without neither pants or shoes, and had rather long, green hair. For a moment, Ren would have readily believed that this child was a girl. However, something felt off. She'd watched people and how they behaved all the time in order to memorize patterns they acted to, which she would often act upon when she stole food and clothing and the sort. Somehow, her experience of such activity led her to believe that this child wasn't quite what they seemed. A boy perhaps? Either way, Kiba quietly stared at him (or her), his somewhat wolf-like features relaxed, as he didn't see the child as anyone dangerous. Ren found herself wondering how she hadn't noticed him(her??) up until now. How long had he(seriously, it was difficult to tell) been here? She could sit there and guess all day. . .but she decided that maybe she should try talking, like she did the other day with Aiella. Drawing a bit of a blank of what to say, for she hardly had any practice in conversation she started hesitantly, ". . .you're a boy. . .right?" Her voice was somewhat quiet, and much like her facial expression, had a neutral tone. And immediately after speaking out her assumption, she felt that perhaps it was too blunt, or perhaps rude even. Trying again, she continued, her voice faltering a little. "I'm. . .Ren. . .what's your name?" |

Suki~ The Innocent Adolescent / Aether~ The Barrier Persona

Suki went right up to the girl and her dog, wondering if he ought to feed him or pet him or just leave him alone. Maybe the girl was lonely, like he was. He got paid a lot of attention, but no one ever seemed to want to befriend him. From the Samegawa Flood Plains came mummy kitty, hanging from her mouth. Suki watched as she brought them under his bush, probably for shelter. "Yes," Suki nodded curiously. "My name's Suki!" he chirped sweetly. And then he looked up and down Ren. What was she doing in the shrine? He had learned some time ago that people didn't come to the shrine much here, even though they were troubled or had problems. Maybe this girl was from Mimasaka too. Or maybe the girl just had a different way of thinking. "Is there anything you need?" Suki asked, pushing his hair back. It was drenched and stuck to his skin. In fact, his dress was also getting wet. It stuck to his body too, which was rather uncomfortable. "Do you want to pray? Or ask for something? I can help," Suki announced happily. "I look after the shrine here," he nodded. "And I know this place well." |

Ren's face may not have effectively showed it, but she was relieved to see that her guess about the boys sex didn't seem to bother him. He even introduced himself as "Suki" in such a cordial manner. Suki seemed to scrutinize Ren for a moment, before pushing his hair back, asking if there was anything she needed. She felt it was an odd thing to ask her, not many people did that at least. Upon a moments consideration, she couldn't think of anything, she wasn't even all that hungry at the moment. Then Suki continued to ask if she wanted to pray, or ask for something, offering to help her do so. Ren blinked, a little confused. ". . .pray? . . .I don't get it, ask for what?" she asked. "Do I. . .need to ask for something?" She had really only taken a habit of staying around the shrine because of the quiet atmosphere. And no one really seemed to suspect a food thief to be hiding in a place like this. The actual concept of a shrine was lost to her. She continued to wonder about it when Suki explained that he looked after the shrine. Now curious, Ren asked, "What kinds of things do people ask for?" Edited by Ren, Jun 6 2012, 09:18 AM.

Suki shrugged. "Anything! The gods may answer, the gods may not," he chimed happily. "You don't just have to need to," Suki went on, "you can want to too!" "Let's see.." Suki plopped down on the ground, shivering as he felt himself sit right on a puddle. "Ew." "There's stuff like general blessings or stuff like health and wealth or more private stuff or maybe just normal stuff like food or games or sometimes they want to pray for a relative or boyfriend or girlfriend or pet and then there's also praying to get rid of bad luck or to get good luck or some people want to appease gods to get what they want. Back in my town the players - oh, in all sports - they like to come to the shrine and pray for victory. Then some of them want to go and pray for protection..some from evil spirits or some from people chasing them," Suki shrugged after going on and on like a gatling without seemingly needing to draw breath. There's also people who pray they can find their lost items or runaway pets or hooligan children. Then there's serious matters like life and death stuff and that - that six," Suki frowned. "Every time someone comes in and asks about six, mummy tells me to go out.." What was so special about that number? They pronounced it weirdly too, leaning too heavily until the i sounded like an e. Suki shrugged to himself. "So you need something if you came here?" Suki asked. |

"...I can just...want to ask for someting?" Ren inquired. She pondered if there was anything she would ask of the shrine. Nothing in particular came to mind though, for she didn't ask for things often, hardly ever, perhaps because she couldn't get used to talking to people. But...why was it hard to talk to people, she would often wonder. She left this train of thought momentarily as Suki sat down in a puddle, clearly uncomfortably so. What a strange boy, she thought. As the boy proceeded to explain about the shrine, Ren felt what could perhaps was concern for the boy, worried that he might get sick later from the rain...and what was that he said near the end, six? For a moment, Ren thought he said something else. She assured herself that she was mistaken though. "...uhm..." she started, glancing up at the tree she sat under a moment before looking back at the boy. Then she scooted to the side with Kiba, who by now had dozed off, leaving the spot where she was sitting open. "...the rain doesn't fall as bad under here...the leaves block most of it, so its not as wet...you can sit here if you want." She contemplated Suki's question at the end of his explanation. "...I didn't really know this place was so special to be honest...Me and Kiba were just looking for a place to be, and found this place..." That's right, she thought. After that, that Aiella person gave us food. I still don't understand why though. After some more thought, she continued. "I don't really have anything to ask a shrine, but...theres someone I know, who's done something for me and Kiba...I don't get why though and its been bothering me since..." She paused, thinking a little. "I guess, if anything, I'd like to understand that person better, why they were nice to me, when everyone else just pretends I'm not there..." |

Suki shrugged. "Why not?" People wanted to ask for things all the time. People wanted things. All kinds of things. They were materialistic and close-minded, so it was pretty easy to guess the main things they asked for. Then there were people who really needed whatever they prayed for, be it money or food or luck. People here seemed to be well-off and didn't need higher powers to help them, so Suki didn't really do much here. Sweep up the leaves and hang around for a while for some senior citizens who came here daily. They were fond of Suki and gave him sweets often. Suki liked them. They were nice but no one ever took care of them. They always came to pray, too! Suki was now most definitely completely soaked through. Every inch of his nice dress. It stuck to him uncomfortably and he just felt like peeling it off, but it wasn't very polite to go around without clothes on. Modesty and something like that. If the girl left though, he'd definitely find somewhere to dry his dress. "Oh? Okay!" Suki said happily and got up clumsily, water dripping out of his dress and down his back in a most uncomfortable manner. He sat next Ren, grimacing when his dress made a weird squelching sound. He was so, so wet. Feeling much as though someone was confessing sins to him, he crossed his hands and placed them on his lap, listening attentively and nodding, bright-eyed. "Hmm. It's that hard to understand someone?" Suki said above the roar of the rain. "If people're nice to you, then they like you! If they're mean to you, then they don't like you," Suki shrugged. He reached out and touched the top of Ren's head, frowning when he felt very solid hair. "You're..right over here," he said, confused. "Not over where..?" |

Ren gave Suki a sympathetic look as he got up and sat next to her, out of the rain. Poor thing, she thought. He looked like a kitten caught in the rain, in a way. She even found herself feeling concerned that he might get sick with a cold or something. But Suki just sat there, apparently listening closely to what Ren said, as the rain began to come down a little harder. Ren expression became slightly quizzical as Suki gave explained his way of understanding people. "Huh...is it really that simp-" she stopped short as the boy reached out and touched her head, blinking in surprise. She wasn't at all accustomed to being touched by people. He then frowned, and looked as confused as Ren felt now. "uh...no, that's not what I..." she started to reply, but instead sighed and shook her head after gently shoving Suki's hand off of it. Somehow, she didn't feel as if this boy would understand what she was talking about. She felt a little better since he had tried though. It was more than what most people did. Maybe I want myself to be understood, too, she thought. "Hey Suki, what would you ask from the shrine?" Ren asked the boy. "I mean...it sounds like you know a lot about it, have you done it before?" |

"What..I ask?" Suki fell silent and frowned. Him? He was the one who listened as others asked and poured their hearts out on what they wanted. Was he entitled to make his own requests? His head tilted in curiosity as Ren's next sentence made him think more. He'd never really thought about turning to god himself to make his own requests. Why shouldn't he? There was no rule against that, Suki was sure. "No," Suki admitted. "What I want.." What did he want? Money and stuff like that wasn't important to him, and lollipops as an occasional treat was okay. As he thought longer and harder, he realized what he wanted. He was always alone here after all. "I want people to like me," he said sadly. "Everyone keeps running away and avoiding me and staring at me from far away. I don't have many friends here since I came here from Mimasaka," he continued, "and mummy's back home at the shrine so no one loves me either." He paused, thinking. "I have a few friends though," he said cheerfully. "I think they like me. There's also mummy kitty and her kits," he nodded. "But I still haven't found any battens." His quest to find baby bats which he thought were named battens was still going on. "No one ever comes to the shrines anymore," Suki said. "Maybe it's fate that led you here," he giggled. |
