May 24th 3:30 p.m. A cool rain continued to fall in the Tatsuhime Shrine, the droplets tapping lightly the ground all around, creating a gentle chorus that echoed in the sacred ground. Besides the rain, the shrine was relatively quiet and empty. Yet. . . A pair of figures sat beneath a tree in the corner of the shrine. One of them, was Ren, a girl with silvery hair, green eyes, the right eye being covered by a lock of hair, wearing a white hoodie with a black hood which was clearly a size too large for one as thin as herself, also wearing a pair of black baggy shorts and a pair of worn shoes with a black&white color scheme. The other figure, which was curled up beside her, was her faithful canine compainion, a gray furred, green eyed dog named Kiba. Ren sat with her back against the tree, her hood covering her head against the rain. She rested an arm upon a bent knee, while her other arm sat upon the wet grass beside her. She had previously dozed off while listening to the rain falling around her, while Kiba remained awake to look out for any sort of trouble. Ren eyes eventually fluttered back open, and looked up at the rainy skies. She felt. . .lonely. But it was strange. It was always only herself and Kiba, and yet she never felt this way before. She wondered why. Ren sat there, pondering this, zoning out as she did so. |

Suki seemed to think awfully hard over Ren's question, as he apparently never asked for anything from the shrine himself at all. Then after a few moments, he finally answered that wanted people to like him. As he continued to explain his wish, Ren gazed thoughtfully at Suki. She thought back to speaking with Aiella the other day. It's a different sort of context, she thought to herself, but...he's just like me. She also took note of the "mummy" he spoke of. That's the same thing as...the "Mom" Aie mentioned...what's so important about them? After Suki finished explaining, he mentioned how people didn't come to the shrine often, and how "fate" led Ren to this place. Ren then silently turned her gaze up to the rainy sky. "...fate?" She asked. Now that she thought of it, the treatment she was being given never happened until she happened to travel to Inaba, in what Ren thought was simple curiosity, and yet it led to her meeting an odd, pink haired women that gave her food, and now a boy who looked like a girl, telling her about the shrine. Both of them taking the time to listen to her speak. And both of them...treated her and Kiba with kindness. But...why? Ren couldn't help but wonder. "...so...friends are people who like you?" Ren asked, not so much to Suki or anyone in particular. "and people who like you are nice to you?" She paused in thought for a moment before bringing her gaze back to Suki. "So...does that...make us friends, Suki?" Ren asked. |

"Fate," Suki nodded. "Our fates have been decided from the day we were born, and we can't change it. Whatever happens happens," he shrugged. "So I just go along with it," he giggled. "Might as well have fun in our lives before we pass on!" Live life to the fullest and all that! Death didn't really scare him. It just meant he was moving on and then was going to be reincarnated in a new life. Sure, he didn't want to die, but if he did die tomorrow or next week it was by god's hand and will. Or maybe he was to die tonight. Because it was really, really cold. He shivered and pulled himself closer. The wind wasn't helping, it seemed to seep right through his clothes and brush against his skin, cold as ice. he shivered again. His clothes stuck to him most uncomfortably. Suki nodded although Ren was staring at the air as though daydreaming. He felt like daydreaming himself. He was still looking for someone to take care of him. Not as a mother, not as a father, or not like Chou. Someone who liked him. But if he was fated to never have a boyfriend, then so be it. "Yes," Suki nodded curiously. "Why doesn't it?" To him, anyone he met was automatically considered a friend. Ren didn't seem very confident for some reason. |

Our fates are...decided before we are born? Somehow, the notion sounded unfair to Ren, but who was she to argue? The future never concerned her much farther than the present day anyway. Still, she had to wonder, if she could in fact change fate, what exactly would she change? Would she change anything at all in the first place? In regards to Suki, changing the weather might not have been a bad start. Why on Earth would he sit in the rain and wind so long? At least in Ren's case, she had an oversized hoodie to shield her from the cold, but this child wore seemingly nothing but a long dress shirt. Such a strange boy, Ren thought to herself. But, if what he says is true, I guess we really are friends then. So what should I do now? Ren gave it another brief moment of thought before standing up, extending a hand to the boy. Upon sensing his master's movement, Kiba stretched a moment and stood up as well. "The rain's not good for you Suki, you'll get sick." She said to her apparently newfound friend as the neutral expression upon her face finally revealed look of concern. "Do you...live anywhere? Somewhere dry?" |

Suki tugged his wet locks awkwardly. Chou had mentioned she was going away. That was why she was so busy. She apologized profusely, but there was nothing for it. Chou was going away and (Although he didn't really mind) he had to come back and live here in the shrines. "Well, I sleep in the bushes here..under that big one," Suki shrugged pointing. Chou was packing, so he oughtn't disturb her. She insisted he leave his things in her house for the time being though. She fussed over him greatly and told him not to go near dark alleys for some reason. He giggled. "I heal quickly," he brushed off the comment about him getting sick easily. It was true. He didn't really know why, but it was useful. Bleugh. It was uncomfortable though. "Since I'm not from here I don't have money to buy a house or something. So I just sleep here and take care of the shrines." No baddies ever came to the shrines anyway, so he was safe. There was the occasional boy or girl checking the offering box for quick money, but he chased them away with a broomstick. He wouldn't let them steal, that was bad. If they wanted money, they had to earn it. |

Ren blinked as she looked at the bush Suki pointed to. "Oh. You. . .sleep there? I see." Her voice didn't show pity, rather more of understanding. She herself had been sleeping behind the trees in the shrine for the last few days, since she only arrived in Inaba recently after sneaking on a train bound for this small town. She leaned against the tree she and Suki were under, adjusting her hood for a moment. Ren hated the rain. If she was caught in it for too long, she would easily catch a cold, and would have to hole herself in somewhere until her fever went down, which sometimes felt like it would take forever. It was one of the reasons she found herself something to wear that had a hood to block the rain, namely, the hoodie she wore now. And lightning storms? They gave her terrible, horrifying nightmares. Ren felt a bit guilty now, knowing that Suki lived in this space. "I didn't realize anyone else hid here," she said, glancing over at the plastic plate that a few days ago held the food she stole from the pink haired women named Aiella. It wasn't necessarily "litter", in fact, Ren had re-used it several times now and hid it underneath a medium sized rock when she was done with it. In a strange way, it was Ren's method of "tidying up". "Me and Kiba will look for another place to stay soon. . .but, do you mind if we stay a while longer?" she asked, a bit hesitantly. She still felt a little tired, and didn't want to start searching for a new hiding place in the rain. "We don't need the bush or anything, the trees here are enough" |

Suki nodded happily. "It's riiiight here in the shrine, so I can take care of it every morning! Since I come back here after exploring town I can check the shrine in the evening, too." It was very convenient, living here in the shrine. Uncomfortable, sure, but convenient! If he wasn't careful roots and grass would poke his back though. "Hid? Oh, no! I live here," Suki announced cheerfully. "I mean, I don't need anybody's permission, and no one seems to mind. No one takes care of the shrines anyway, so I do! It doesn't..seem like a very good idea anymore," he pouted. "Too wet when it rains." "The shrine's for everyone to use," Suki shrugged. "It's not mine, I don't own it," he giggled. "Mummy kitty comes over every now and then though, so as long as Kiba doesn't go after her," he said. "I hope she's alright with all this rain," he frowned. "Maybe I should go check.." A flash of lightning and the roar of thunder made him squeal, flinch and change his mind very quickly. "O-or maybe I should stay here instead!" He couldn't possibly brave the rain, weather the storm. Of course he would do it if mummy kitty was in some kind of trouble, but right now it was really too frightening and cold. |

He lives here to take care of the shrine? Ren wondered. Is it that important to him? Kiba gave a snort of indifference to Suki's concern about him chasing the cats. Glancing down at the wolfish hound, Ren quickly interpreted for him. "Kiba says he doesn't chase cats, he'd rather stay by my side in case there's danger." Ren also noted Suki's concern for the cats in the rain. ". . . I'm sure they'll be alright. Kiba's told me before that usually animals know exactly what to do in bad weather-" A flash of lightning followed by the roar of thunder cut her off. Ren didn't cry out as Suki did, but froze in fear for a moment, a shudder coming over her body soon afterward. I...hate lightning... It wasn't so much that Ren feared she would be harmed from the skyward bolts, rather. . .it almost seemed to remind her of something, a sensation of pain that she couldn't describe the cause to. Surely, more nightmares would haunt her in her sleep. Still, if Suki wanted to check on the cat and her kittens. . . "Hey Suki," Ren started. "If you're worried about the mother cat, would you like me to go with you to check on her?" |

Animals did seem to have instincts that far surpassed those of a human. Suki was fairly sure mummy kitty would have the sense to seek shelter for herself and her kittens. Wouldn't she? What if those mean black things got her? That was a possibility. Suki frowned. This lightning was terrible, what if it struck her? Dread filled his little heart. Oh, no no no! Depriving the kittens of her mother..nature was too cruel. His brain worked on overdrive and he quickly made a choice. "I want to go see mummy kitty," Suki affirmed. "I-it'd be nice if you came along, but if you wanted to stay.." The rest of his sentence was cut off by a loud rumble of thunder. He wasn't sure exactly how was he supposed to get to the Flood Plains like this. He got up, took a few steps out and got hit by the full blast of the rain and wind. He was promptly hurled back where he fell next to Kiba, unharmed but soaking wet. He was far too light and far too small. What was he supposed to do? Hide behind a statue? "But mummy kitty's supposed to be in the Flood Plains.." What if mummy kitty was being thrown about like he was? He imagined as she got flung through the air and shook his head. |

Suki affired his desire to find the cats before being cut off by another roar of thunder. Ren glanced up at the sky for a brief moment. The rain, it was going to get worse, she could tell. Although, the shine was quite an ideal shelter for it. Perhaps if they were able to bring the cats here... The hooded girl came back to attention as Kiba let out a slight yelp of surprise. Looking back down, poor Suki was thrown down by the force of the storm next to Kiba. "The Flood Plains..." Ren repeated, thinking over the situation. She had a feeling that'd be one of the last places she'd sit to wait out a rainstorm. She passed by it once before recently, and was sure she could find it again. But would she be able to traverse there without catching a cold from the rain. Maybe, but Suki...he was already getting soaked from attempted to take two steps out in the rain, and fell over. All things considered, Ren knew that it was smarter to let the cats figure out the storm for themselves while they stayed here at the relatively dry shrine. Besides, there was a chance that even if they ran all around the flood plains looking for the cats, they wouldn't find them, and only succeed in making cold shivering, and very likely sick in the process. But even still, Ren could tell the cats meant a lot to the little shrine keeper. What...should I do? Glancing over at the rock that effectively hid the plate she stole the other day, Ren thought back to her conversation with the pink haired women. Why are you being nice to me, she had once asked the women. According to Suki, people who were nice to you, liked you, therefore wanted to be friends with you. So...is that why...? Ren trailed off on this thought. After a moment, Ren looked down at him. Against her better judgement, she made her decision. "The storm's too much for you...I'll go instead." She glanced at Kiba, who seemed to nod in agreement. "Me and Kiba can find the mother and her kittens and bring them here, where the rain's not as bad. While we're gone, can you find them somewhere dry to stay?" She would help her friend, even if it meant a search in the rainstorm, lightning and all the could possibly be worse. After a bit of further consideration, Ren wasn't sure how many cats inhabited Inaba. "And...what do they look like, Suki? Is there a certain place I might find them in the Flood Plain?"
