Falling... endlessly falling.

“I feel so... light...”

Aie sank gently through the never ending darkness. She dove downwards – what she thought was downwards – her hands outstretched in front of her. She saw herself as if she where blanketed in a white glow of light – enough to cast light upon herself, and nothing else.

”Am I ever going to end up somewhere?”

Ever since she had moved to Inaba, Aie had always had this same, recurring dream. Endlessly falling into darkness, never going anywhere, never seeing anything. It didn't worry her or bother her – quite the opposite. The darkness, the falling all seemed to calm her.

And then, the light came. At first, it was a tiny and distant far away speck, and for the first time she could confirm with her eyes what she had been feeling all this time – the she was gently falling downwards... ”Downwards into where...?” She flipped and turned her feet downwards towards the light. Slowly, the light grew brighter.

But her sight was still obscured by the thick fog.

The dull shine that seemed to surround her had left her body, collecting in front of her into an increasingly bright ball of light. Suddenly, there was a sound like shattering glass, and the light had transformed into a pair of large battle fans. Instinctively, she reached out for them and gripped onto them gently with her own hands.

“It is time, Aiella.” the voice surrounded her. It seemed to come from nowhere, and yet – from everywhere. “You mustn't be afraid.”

”I... feel too aware, too awake. Is this.. really a dream?” she wondered to herself.

“Neither a dream, nor is it reality.”

Aiella jumped a little. ”... I don't under-” She fell to the floor, her body heavy and aching.

“Soon. Be true to yourself.”

The fog grew thicker, and she felt as if she was physically being pushed away by many invisible hands. Her sight grew darker and darker, and then she woke up.

All was quiet in the Osaragi household. Kiba was still upstairs – presumably sleeping – and Ren was sound asleep on the couch. The T.V was still on, but the volume was turned low after Aiella had seen Ren had fallen asleep previously. She got up, turning off the T.V and went to grab herself a glass of water.

“... never … ere... lway... away.” the voice was garbled, but quiet. Aiella turned around to look for the source of the noise, but was met again with a dark room. The T.V turned itself on with a soft click, and imbued the room with a soft blue glow.

“Am I.... eird?... ..I.. nge?” The voice sounded familiar to Aie, but she couldn't place it, no matter how hard she tried. She walked up to the television slowly, as if in a trance – and placed her hand upon the screen. Her fingers tips slowly pressed inward and through the screen. She continued to move her arms slowly through the screen, and then..

“You're too SLOW!” shouted a louder, raspier voice. Two pairs of arms protruded through the TV and grabbed Aiella either side, pulling her through into the TV. Her hair caught the sides, and by chance – pulled the ribbons from out of her hair, leaving to fall down out of it's ponytails. Once she was through, she once again began to fall slowly through to the other side.

Ren – still asleep, was unaware to the whole event. She simply slept, and not awake to notice the strange sight of one of Aiella's hair ribbons, hanging half out of the TV, and half inside.

When Aiella finally landed, she saw a younger version of herself smiling up at her.

"Aie-nee chan!" she exclaimed. "Come on! We need to run!" Confused, she let the little version of herself take her hand, and they both ran off and breakneck speed.

"B-but.. what are we running from?"

May 27th, 8:30 a.m.

Ren stirred awake on the couch as Kiba began to whine and nip at her fingers.

"Mmrgh. . .morning Kiba," she mumbled sleepily. Sitting up, she streched her arms to her side. She couldn't remember the last time she slept that well.

"Is Aie up yet, Ki-" she started to ask the dog, then paused to see Kiba holding a ribbon in his mouth. " . . .Kiba, what're doing with that?" Ren recognized it as one of the ribbons Aiella wore.

Kiba continued to whine urgently at Ren. Earlier, he had come down the stairs to check on Ren when he found the ribbon half hanging out of the TV. Trying to communicate this to Ren he continued to whine, this time toward the TV.

Ren, followed his gaze, but didn't understand.

"Maybe later Kiba, Aie said it's bad to watch TV all day." She got up from the couch and looked around the house. "Hm. . .Where is she anyway?"

Another irritated whine from Kiba as it basically thought, What is so hard to understand that Aie fell into a TV?! Then after a moment, the dog remembered that the ribbon was in his mouth.

Realizing this, Kiba let out a groan. If he could facepalm, he'd be doing it now.

Ren, after searching the house for a couple moments, discovered Aie wasn't there at all.

"Hmm. . .I guess she went ahead of us to Junes. Let's go Kiba." She got on her shoes and headed outside.

Kiba, both dejected and misunderstood, yipped at Ren to come back, but had little choice but to follow, Aiella's ribbon still hanging out from his mouth.

[OOC fail kiba, fail]
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junes, 10:00 a.m.

Ren wandered rather aimlessly around the first few departments, Kiba tailing close behind her. Any second, the silver haired girl expected to see Aiella with those bits and bobs she mentioned yesterday, whatever those were. However, there seemed to be simply no sign of her.

Kiba continued to whine and yip at Ren, especially as they were passing through the electronics.

"Kiba, what's gotten into you today? If people find out I snuck you inside with me, they'll throw us out again." Ren asked. She was becoming quite annoyed by now. However, the dog persisted, running up to a large flat screen TV, nudging his nose at it.

"It's just a TV, like Aie has at home."

NOT THE POINT, Kiba wanted to reply. Then, an idea finally came to him. He sat directly in front of the flatscreen, and reached up with his paw, placing it firmly against the TV. . .nothing happened.

"Garrhh!" was it's irritated cry.

"Ah! Kiba!" She hurried up to the dog, taking his paw into her hand. "You'll get us in troub-" As soon as her own hand touched the screen, both her hand, and Kiba's paw sunk into the TV screen. "-wh-whuh?!"

Kiba yipped, victoriously, as Ren stared dumbfoundedly.

"What's going-?!" she started, then suddenly, a powerful force pulled at her hand and Kiba's paw. Ren lost her balance, and a moment later, both she and Kiba toppled through the screen.

-----------------

The next thing Ren knew, she was sprawled on the floor of. . .what almost looked like a foggy movie studio. She regained her senses as Kiba nudged her, then stood up.

After looking around, bewildered, she finally glanced down at Kiba.

"Did we. . .just. . ." she started. Kiba yipped, holding up the ribbon in his mouth. ". . .wait. . .your telling me, Aie fell into a TV, too?" Kiba yipped again, urgently. "Kiba why didn't you tell me before!?" Kiba was silent, giving her an irritated glare. ". . .oh?. . .Oh. . . Oh no!!"

Kiba groaned.

Ren looked around their surroundings, frantically. "TV is scary. Kiba, we gotta find Aie."

Kiba nodded, then set the ribbon down for a moment, sniffing it. After a moment, he turned and faced a certain direction, as he picked up Aiella's scent.

"Okay." Ren said, picking up the ribbon. "Lead the way, Kiba."

And with that, Ren and Kiba began to walk through the fog.

"B-but.. what are we running from?"

The mini-Aie giggled up at her. “Itsa seeeeecret.” she sang quietly. She tugged on Aiella once more, and continued to pull her through the fog.

”This fog... could it..?” Aiella wondered to herself. The fog was thick and heavy, just like the one she had encountered with Ren previously. As she took each step, her ears rang with the sound of her own heels hitting the hard – apparently tiled – floor. Each continuing step made her body feel heavier and heavier, and her eyesight seemed to become more and more obscure.

”This is even worse then the fog we saw in Inaba...” she muttered to herself. The mini-Aie stopped, and turned back towards her. Aiella felt a sudden wave of dizziness pass over her, and with her last step she seemed to catch the heel of her shoe on uneven grounding, and tumbled down onto the floor. Her vision become blurry, and her head pounded – only made worse by everything sounding like it was turned to max volume. Her arms gave out – having landed on them after falling – and her head met the cool, tiled floor. She looked up, and was met with maddening, yellow eyes.

“Heheheheee..” The mini-Aie giggled. “Fiiiinally~”

And then, Aiella blacked out.

The fog seemed thinner here.

Aiella opened her eyes slowly. She looked down at herself and saw that her shirt was torn in a couple of places, and then looked up at the room around her. She was in a different place from where she collapsed - that much she knew. But... why was she here? The light blue walls, the books, desk.

"I'm.. this is... my room back home?" she heard giggling from behind her, and she turned towards to newcomer. This time, she was met by two pairs of those maddening yellow eyes she saw before she passed out. One pair belonged to the little girl whom had dragged her along through the thick fog, and the other... was herself.

They both smiled back at her, their grins reaching wider then any cheshire cat - and then turned towards each other and placed the palm of their hands together. The small girl dissapeared in a flash of light, and was absorbed into the strange look-a-like.

"Weeeeeeeell then~" said the fake. "Shall we begin~?"

As Ren and Kiba continued to trudge slowly and carefully through the fog, Ren could feel it's dense atmosphere fall heavier around her. There were even times where she almost lost sight of Kiba, whom was right in front of her, following Aiella's scent.

This fog, Ren thought to herself. It's just like yesterday.

She glanced left and right as they walked, but didn't, or for all she knew, couldn't, see the shapes of those black creatures. If they were here, Aie was in great danger for sure!

But, how would she get out of this place if, no she wouldn't think that way, WHEN, she found Aie? Could Kiba backtrack a path out of here?

Ren snapped back to attention as she noticed a difference in the sound of her footsteps. Was that...tile? The fog also seemed to thin out significantly, at least to the point where Ren could make out her and Kiba's surroundings.

"Huh? . . .This is a. . .house?" Ren wondered aloud. "Kiba, are you sure Aie's here?"

Kiba yipped in affirmation, raising his nose to point around the room they were currently in. Ren looked around as well. Hm...it's really tidy...tidy?

"You're right," she said to Kiba. "Okay, let's hurry, before any of those...things, show up!"

“Who are you?” Aiella demanded.

“I am the Shadow. The true self.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” Aiella spat. Shadow Aiella tilted her head to the side a little, and Aiella saw that her focus was not on her at all. “Tell me!” she added.

Shadow Aie turned to her, and grinned. “Looks like our little friend is in here, trying and find you.”

“R-Ren? She's here?”

“Yes, and she'll pay for even stepping inside my world~” Shadow Aiella sang, rubbing her hands together. She raised one hand, and a low and deep groan sounded around them. “I'm sending the Shadows after her. She'll be dead in seconds.”

“Don't you touch her, you bitch!”

Shadow Aiella laughed. “Getting mad are we? Getting emotional?”

“I hate how my parents treat me~” she started, walking towards Aiella. “They disappeared all the time, and only cared about my grades~ Where the HELL do they get off by trying to be in my life now?!” Shadow Aie spat. “I was sheltered all of my childhood, and I hated it. Locked inside that house on my own, trapped. I didn't want a fancy house, or fancy clothes, I just wanted to run away and be with people my own age!”

“W-what.. are you saying... That's.. that's not true.” Aiella stammered “N-no...”

“Of course it's true. It's how we really feel~”

“W-we...?”

“I~am~you~” she sang once more.

“That's nonsense!” Aiella shouted. “That's just not possible!”

Shadow Aiella sauntered over towards her counterpart and grasped her face in her hands, bringing her in closer to those maddening, yellow eyes. “Deny me. I dare you.”

Not two seconds after the line "before any of those things show up" left Ren's mouth, she could feel the presence of malicious intent nearby, and spun around. Sure enough, another one of those strange creatures from before stood before her, but this one looked different.

It was a Phantom, a tall shadow wrapped in a cloak, a lantern like glow in its center, and much like the other creatures, a mask for a face.

Kiba arched his back and growled threateningly at the creature. In response, the Phantom cast forth a burst of flames at the pair. Acting almost upon an instinct, Ren dove to the one side of the blaze, Kiba the other.

Upon hitting the tile floor, Ren found the wind knocked out of her. Propping herself up by gripping the edge of a nearby table, she soon discovered it wasn't a table at all. It's tablecloth also bore a mask-like face, and the silverware rose up and stabbed at her as she backed away from it in surprise.

All the while, dozens of the slime-shaped Mayas were filling the room, soon trapping Ren and Kiba within a small corner of the room. Ren backed up to the wall, her neutral, guarded expression cracking a little under the panic.

Nowhere to run, she thought as her mind reeled in terror. Nowhere to hide...Aie...

Then a sudden pain from her right hand snapped her back to reality. Quickly glancing down, she saw Kiba's teeth closed onto her hand. The same hand he bit just the day before, the last time these creatures appeared.

"K-Kiba," Ren stammered. Kiba let go and barked at her, in the same urgent manner as before. She raised her hand up to her face to examine it. Just like before, he "X" tattoo on the back of the hand glew amongst the fog. Then she heard the voice, yet again.

Then do not Run. . .Do not Hide. . .

The shadows drew very near, and readied for the final strike.

Fight, Ren. Fight to defeat all those who wish you harm, who wish others harm. Call forth...your true self...

Ren held out the her hand before her, the back of it toward the shadows, and a moment later, a tarot card appeared over the "X", the image of The Fool Arcana illuminated upon it.

". . .No more," Ren said, quietly at first, then the strength in her voice returned, determined. "No More Running!!!" And then, as the shadows lunged for her once more, she shouted.

"PERSONA!!!"

The card shattered like glass, and instantaneously the space around Ren distorted briefly, before a figure materialized from thin air, hurling a series of floating swords at the attacking shadows, impaling the nearby Mayas and even the table-shaped shadow, while the Phantom fell back to evade.

Ren gazed upon the figure, and recognized it at once. The long, silvery white coat with a high collar that hid the bottom half of its face, the collar held closed by two buckles. A masked, ear covering headset with 5 lenses veils its eyes as short, white, spiked hair rose behind its head. Black armor covering its chest and black shorts reaching its mid thighs. Hands covered in a pair of gauntlets. Steel toed boots reaching to just below its knees. 6 blades floating behind it in a wing-esc formation, with 3 on its left side, and 3 on the right. Ren could see clearly now, that in a way, the figure looked just like herself, as if a girl her age.

"I am Kyokkai, your Persona." she said to Ren. "I was constructed of thee, and shall fight by your side."

"Kyokkai..." Ren mused aloud.

The Phantom began to cast more flames in their direction, and still cornered, Ren could do nothing but flinch. Kyokkai however, advanced towards the incoming blaze, four of the floating wing-like blades arranging into a spinning pinwheel in front of her, deflecting the flames.

The Phantom seemed to panic, and proceed to launch a series of lightning bolts toward Kyokkai, who simply glided to the side, retracting its floating wingblades.

Ren watched in awe as Kyokkai continued to evade the incoming bolts, gliding all around the Phantom with ease. Eventually, as the Phantom started to build up a new blast of flames aimed at the Persona, Kyokkai stopped some distance away. Then, the floating blades circled around the persona's left arm, and after a flash of light, formed into a long barreled cannon molded around its arm.

The Phantom unleashed its blaze, and in response, Kyokkai raised the cannon toward its foe, "Megidoloan," and fired a burst of energy that knocked the flames aside, continuing in its course until it obliterated the Phantom.

After a moment, Kyokkai then turned toward Ren, who stared dumbfoundedly at all the destruction caused in only a matter of seconds. Not a single one of those creatures were left. After an urgent bark from Kiba, Ren snapped back to attention, turning toward the door leading to the next room.

"R-right! Aie can't be far away now!"
She said. Kyokkai replied, "Move quickly, but carefully. Our fighting is not yet concluded."

--------------------------------------

The door to Aiella's room was blasted off of its hinges by cannon fire before Kyokkai walked inside, a protesting Ren and Kiba tailing after her.

"H-hey! That wass over the top!"

"...your logic is sound...it would be unfortunate to fail in conserving our strength."

"That's not what I meant!"

Ren stood beside her Persona, to see what appeared to be not one, but two Aiella's.

"Huh?!...Aie? What's going on?" she asked, a bit confused at the sight.

“Deny me. I dare you.”

Aiella took in a sharp breath, ready to retort. She stared deeply into the eyes of her imposter, and felt her anger rise.

“You're no-”

BANG.

“H-hey! That was over the top!”

“R-ren... it's Ren...”

"...your logic is sound...it would be unfortunate to fail in conserving our strength."

”What.. is that?”

“That's not what I meant!” answered Ren. She turned to look at Aiella, an expression of confusion passing over her face.

“Uwahahahaa~” laughed Shadow Aiella. “Now~ We have an audience~ Even better, right Aie?!” she said, her laugh progressing into that of a laugh of derision.

“N-no.. please..” Aiella begged, choking on her own words.

“I haaaaattee the way I am~ I hate feeling so naive~ I hate feeling so helpless~” Shadow Aiella whined, grinning all the while. “I hate how people treat me, as if I'M the weird one?”

“Please... stop...”

“And you. Ren.” she started, turning to Ren. “Reeeeen~ Someone just as socially outcast as me~! Well, I just practically jumped at the opportunity to be frieeeeends~ Someone who wouldn't judge me~ someone who wouldn't call me weeeeeirddd~”

“W-why...?” Aiella said, sobbing a little.

“Why...? WHY!? Because that's how WE truly feel, that's why.” The Shadow scoffed, and looked down at Aiella.

“No...”

“No...? Ohohohohhh~!”

“No... you're... You're not me!”

The were a few moments of silence – enough to make Aiella think the imposters dare was fake – and Shadow Aiella started to laugh. Black fog surrounded her body, and in seconds she was transformed into a colossus being, standing tallest in the room. Her form was that of a winged women, bound in chains – to the extent where the her body was bruised, sometimes bloody. Her face was covered in a cross-visored mask, and she held a pair of scales in her left hand.

“I am a shadow. The true self.”

Ren stood, her expression bewildered, as the strange version of Aiella continued to torment the other.

I don't understand, how can there be two of them... are they... having a fight? she wondered.

“I haaaaattee the way I am~ I hate feeling so naive~ I hate feeling so helpless~” the other Aiella said. “I hate how people treat me, as if I'M the weird one?”

Ren felt a shiver crawl up her spine as the other Aiella turned its eerie gaze upon her.

“Reeeeen~ Someone just as socially outcast as me~! Well, I just practically jumped at the opportunity to be frieeeeends~ Someone who wouldn't judge me~ something who wouldn't call me weeeeeirddd~”

Ren was caught off guard by this. This, other Aie...it knew her, just like the Aie she already knew. It was as if...they were the same? What struck Ren the most though, was how the shadow referred to her. She called me a...friend?

Meanwhile, Aiella, the one Ren knew, was starting to break down into sobs.

“W-why...?”

“Why...? WHY!? Because that's how WE truly feel, that's why.”

This is. . .how Aie really is? Ren wondered, looking back and forth from the two Aiella's. This is why...

“No..." Aie said. "you're... You're not me!”

Her voice rang in the following silence, which was soon broken by the spine chilling laughter of the other Aiella. A black fog veiled her, and mere moments later, the other Aie transformed into a colossal women, bound in chains, cuts and bruises over her body, a cross visored mask shielding her face, holding a pair of scales.

“I am a shadow. The true self."

Ren's heart skipped a beat at the sight. Obviously, she didn't need to think twice to know the shadow was dangerous.

And clearly, neither did Kyokkai. She calmly walked past the sobbing Aiella, glancing down sympathetically as she did so, then stood before the shadow, raising its oversized cannon up to it.

As she did, Ren and Kiba ran up in front of Aie, Ren's arms spread out to either side in a defensive manner, while Kiba's back arched once more, growling. Ren stood with her back to Aie, facing the shadow.

"Aie... I see now." Ren said, her voice gentle and even. This time, she thought, I'll protect you...because, you're my...friend!

As if reacting to her unspoken wish, Kyokkai charged up it's cannon.

"Activating Combat Mode."

Everything seemed like such a blur now.

Aie's head reeled. Ren spoke. The.. mysterious form with her had spoken. Kiba was there...

What was happening to her? How did she even get here? Was she drugged? Kidnapped? Maybe.. maybe this was all just a twisted dream, but she knew it felt too real to even deny that it was happening. She tried looking upwards and onwards towards this... Shadow and Ren fighting, but all she could make out were blurry snapshots of dodges, counters and carefully placed blows.

“I am a Shadow. The true self.” Aiella thought to herself. “Is this the answer to what was chasing Ren down on the floodplain? Are they called... Shadows?” She tried to make out more of the masked, chained women the Fake-Aie has become, and she knew instinctively that what was in front of her and what had attacked Ren were totally different in terms of rank and power. But yet, they were both still Shadows.

<I hate how my parents treat me~> echoed the shrill voice of Shadow Aie. Her words where stick inside Aiella's mind, and they continued to repeat themselves, creeping deeper and deeper in Aie's thoughts.
<They disappeared all the time, and only cared about my grades~ Where the HELL do they get off by trying to be in my life now?>

A strange calm took hold of Aiella. She shed her last tear, and sat upwards. The battle was reaching it's end.

The Shadow-Aiella lowered its gaze upon the armed persona.

"You...You dare to deny me as well!?" It cried threateningly. Raising its scales it spoke again to Ren and Kyokkai. "I'll KILL you!!"

And with that a bolt of electricity tore through the faint fog in the room toward the persona. In response, Kyokkai leapt to the side, keeping its armcannon trained on the shadow.

"Torrent Shot," the persona replied in an emotionless tone. The next instant, a series of rapid fire bullets launched out from the barrel of the cannon, all tearing into the shadow.

The Shadow Aiella let out a cry of pain as some of the bullet struck the bruises already present, but as Kyokkai's attack ceased fire, the cannon beginning to overheat, it quickly healed its wounds and sent another series of bolts zig-zagging towards the persona.

Kyokkai crossed the cannon in front of her for it to take most of the blow, but was thrown back from the force of the attack just the same, as it was sent crashing into the wall on the other side of the room, breaking down a large hole through it, revealing a much larger room.

Ren staggered as she felt the pain surge up her spine. What's...going on!? Wheres this pain coming from?!

As Kyokkai propped itself up from the floor using the barrel of the cannon, another bolt of electricity crashed into it, tossing the persona into the air. Once airborne, lighting bolts conjured from all around the air, crashing into Kyokkai again and again, repetitively striking as each bolt knocked the persona higher into the air. In turn, Ren cried out as she fell to her knees.

Am I...feeling Kyokkai's pain
, she wondered. Kiba barked at Ren, snapping her out of her stupor. I...I can't give up!

Kyokkai swung its cannon toward an incoming bolt, catching it inside the barrel and giving it a nearly instant charge, then landed back onto the floor. Turning to face the Shadow Aiella, whom had pursued the persona into the next room, Kyokkai fired a Megidola blast toward the shadow.

In response, the Shadow Aiella used Rakukaja to negate a fraction of the damage before conjuring a long chain that was then wrapped around the armcannon, which was jerked down into the ground before the persona could fire off another shot.

While Kyokkai attemted to yank the cannon free, the Shadow healed itself once more, and then proceeded to pull the chained cannon once more, this time flinging it into the air, the persona along with it.

With Kyokkai now as the shadows own personal flail, it flung the persona all around the room, smashing it into walls and into the floor several times, cackling all the while, before finally hurling its chained victim back into the air, summoning several more chains from the fog, coiling tightly around the persona's limbs and torso to bind it in midair.

Soon after that, the Shadow Aiella sent a current of electricity surging through the chains, electrifying Kyokkai intensely.

By now, Ren was struggling to stand as the such pain continued to magnify within the electric current. She was nearing her very limit when the electric current finally stopped.

She looked back toward the battle to see that her persona was still bound in place by the chains, while the Shadow Aiella was begining to charge large amounts of light into it's scales. As it did, a series of Hama symbols began to illuminate the chains.

"Don't worry, it'll all be over soon, Ren~" the Shadow cooed eerilly. "For you...and me..."

The Shadow Aiella was almost finished charging Hama, it's finishing strike, when Ren spoke, regardless if Aie could hear her.

"Whatever the context, it isn't a pleasant thing to continually go through." Ren quoted from Aiella. "The last few days, after you told me that, I kept trying to piece together why you accepted me...I think...I wanted to be your friend, too..."

And with that, Kyokkai sent away the large armcannon, freeing the arm from the first set of chains as the weapon disappeared, and summoned a long bladed samurai sword, which it used to swiftly hack apart the rest of the chains that suspended it.

"What!?" the shadow cried in surprise as Kyokkai landed back to the ground and ran towards it. The Shadow cast forth a series of bolts that crashed all around the persona as they were all swiftly evaded. Soon, Kyokkai reached close range of the shadow, and leapt up to it, swinging the samurai sword in a wide, fluid arc, before landing behind the Shadow Aiella.

There was a stillness that followed after the attack, after which the Shadow Aiella fell to its knees as the chains that seemed to bind it fell apart.

"Conflict Resolved,"
said the flat tone of Kyokkai's voice, it's sword dissipating into fragments of light as it stood up and turned to face the Shadow Aiella, which gradually reverted to its original form.
