"I don't need to choose good fighters because I am one. Sir Reginald, if you'll be joining us, that makes two of us. A force to be reckoned with, for sure, but six barrel-chested soldiers like us are cannon fodder for a clever enough enemy. If we want to capture this thief, we need versatility. We need artillery to back us up while we fight and defend on the front lines. We'll need flexible mages with situational spells so we can adapt and control the battlefield. We need someone who can keep us alive when things start to get hairy. And of course, we need someone who can think like the thief. Someone who can embrace the art of subtlety, and then we can beat them at their own game."

"We need a well-rounded squad of talented individuals. What say you, companions? What can you bring to the team?"

With a glare that chills the air "Clearly you know nothing of my family. However, you are correct. Actions speak more than words and my actions as part of my family certainly account for me."

Warmly I speak to Sir Shaun, after the beast of a man finishes, "this man speaks with wisdom, I knew I was right in requesting him."

Meleke looks all the way up to the big man then to his associate. "Da Master has all zoes qualties you seek." -indicating upwards to his companion- " However if he goes I go and I bring with my god." The dwarf raises his hands and looks up towards the sky. His chain mail clinking gently underneath his gold and crimson poncho. "That and more over a centuries worth of sneak-thief crushing experienz." He says coolly with a wink and crooked smile. His lowers his hands and rests one on his trusty war hammer, just in case a combat is needed to prove his worth.

Satisfied with my outfit, I make my way to the front.

"I know how thieves think, it would be a simple thing to return the stolen goods. I would only require protection from any of the deadly creatures of the rift. And to sweeten the deal, my services come free of charge just as long as we don't kill the thief but take them alive. I am no murderer."

((Sorry, I had meant to run into Ted instead of the dwarf.))

Herschel polishes his glasses with a bit of Prestidigitation.

As a member of the Rogrest University of Magic, I believe my skills would fit your needs for a mage. Besides, I grew up with Meleke here. We know how the other thinks, and that counts for a lot in a fight.

((I'm going out of town so this will be the last post from me for a few days.))

"It is the divine will of Neube that I enter the rift behind you, for I have business of the utmost importance with the beasts in that land. They have also stolen something from me order and I must retrieve it." Meisu leaned forward slightly and pushed his palms together in front of his chest and facing out, the typical greeting of his order. "I am also trained in magics, and I can track down these heathenous doers. With the help of some companions of course."

"I'm inclined to think highly of a member of the university of magic, and having a combat partner who understands you is invaluable," I say. "And this man," I nod to James, "made his way here with little notice. And I could be mistaken but he was all the way at the back to start." Turning to Sir Shaun, " I do believe this is the best we can hope for with no time to look further."

Apologies for the late delivery, birthday shenanigans delayed me

As Ted gives his speech, Sir Reginald rubs his chin, considering the words of the mighty warrior into deep contemplation as he turns back towards Kioko. With her having given her own approval as well, he gladly clasps his hand on Ted's shoulders, "A convincing argument as I've ever heard, my friend. It is true: though the dangers of the labyrinth are many, it is versatility that wins the day in the end. Not overwhelming might."

The gray-haired man with the eye-patch releases his hand on Lock-Jaw, "Well, if it's versatility you're looking for, Dead-Eye Dugan is your only option..."

"My apologies, Sir Dead-Eye Dugan. But I believe," Sir Reginald does a double-take back at Ted, "this fine fellow has made a compelling argument for his other associates. A university graduate of magic, a centuries-experienced sneak-thief crusher," he refers towards Meleke and Herschel, "and this eccentric fellow."

"Oh, come on!" another mage shouts from the crowd, "I recognize that symbol around his neck! He's from that crazy cult of frog worshipers from that tower outside the city. You can honestly mean to accept such insanity into your team?"

"Honestly," Reginald shrugs, "When you're traversing the labyrinth, I've found it's healthy to maintain a consistent level of insanity along with you. I know of the cul... uh, ORDER, but I've seen some pretty amazing things in my experiences throughout the multiverse. If they believe there to be an almighty toad to have created the cosmos, I'm not one to deny it."

"Ah, and of course," he gives one final nod to James, disguised as the human shade, "Obviously, it would take stealth to apprehend a thief. I believe Miss Fawks is in the right to assume you'll be an excellent asset." He sighs, "We'll, of course, attempt to take her alive: it is the Black Sentinels that wished her dead for her crimes, not I. Though I cannot guarantee her fate after we return her here... which we will have to do should we manage to capture her. This is out of my hands: I don't know the details, but I'm told that this woman is wanted for various heinous acts. And Torn is no sanctuary to fugitives."

"THIS JOKE!" Lockjaw the Half-Orc complains once more. "Lock-jaw deserve go in first!"

"Again, I offer you all my sincerest apologies," he turns on a heel, motioning the six to come forth with him, "But Miss Fawks is correct: the more time I spend picking and choosing, the less likely we are to retrieve the rest of your Planar Gems." The crowd begins to get uppity again, prompting him to usher you all forward at a great haste up the steps. "I thank you all again! The portal will hopefully be open again for all of you no later than this time tomorrow! Please, continue to honor Torn with your presence and patronage and we'll continue doing our best to send you all along the planes as quickly as we can manage. Have a nice day."

The adventurers begin leaping forward, trying to force their way through, but the gnome who exited the temple with Sir Reginald lifts up both of his hands, chanting in Gnomish as lightning crackles between his fingertips, casting it forth in a semicircle surrounding the large doors that separates you all from the rabble, Lock-Jaw charging forth head first through the electrical pylons as a zap sends him flying backwards smoking, though you see him stand up from it afterwards. They renew their protests as Reginald keeps the door open for you all a while until you all pass through, then closes it quickly behind as he and the gnome followed suit.

"Phew." He gives a sigh of relief, wiping some visible sweat off his red hair. "That went better than I thought! Thank you for the assist, Master Nimb."

The old gnome rubs his hand, silently chuckling to himself. "It always goes better when your choices are made for you, it seems." He turns to Kioko, and smirks. "It's rare I see him so incompetent. You have my thanks for pushing him along, young lady."

"Right, well, we're all together now, aren't we? I say that's a pretty good start now matter how you look at it." He clears his throat, and extends his arms forwards, "Welcome, lady and gentlemen: to the Temple of the Planes."

The interior of the temple you see possess two floors, the lower one you are on upon now having three hallways it branches down towards, and the upper floor you see two long spiraling stair cases go up about 30 feet high. The stairs spiral around a large, golden statue of various spheres surrounded by several orbiting lines (similar to below)

There are also numerous guards in metal armor standing erect at each of the door ways, saluting Nimb and Reginald as they enter and ascend up the stairs.

"It's going to be up here. When Mrzfdpnk came to our world, the portal he tore was roughly 50 feet above where the ground was, on the 3rd story of what was then the tallest home in the city. Oh! I suppose that should be lesson number one, for when you find portals: keep in mind the other side isn't ALWAYS going to conveniently drop you off at ground level, or in a place where there's a floor not too far below. I've had portals drop me off in the sky, or even underneath the surface of the earth, so keep that in mind while you're exploring to just be careful."

Nimb nods, and turns down to you all from the stairs, "Speaking of tips: if any of you have any questions before you enter the portal, now might be a good time to ask. We'll need to move quickly, so speak while you follow, yes?"

"Can you walk us through how the crime took place? Paint us a picture, leave nothing out."

Afterwards...

"What kind of trials should we expect from the Labyrinth? It would appear you have more than enough security for a simple retrieval job. And, you wouldn't have bothered trying to retrieve the stolen box unless you knew something about this thief's whereabouts."

The large golden structure orbited by detailed spheres grabbed Malekes attention. It seemed to rotate ever so slightly and he could swear he could hear the softest whirring. Many years ago a great darkness loomed over the Favereach Valley. A powerful necromancer had been been laying siege to the human settlements that could not lie behind Rogrests capitals' Triad of Albatross Deference. The 45 meter high walls were constructed with equal parts marble, dye cast limestone/aggregate mixture (painted white to conceal it's less than stellar design), and wizards blood. Lots of Wizards blood. Creatures of flight could mount it sure, but Meleke had never seen a zombie take to the air.

Torn, although being one of the first human settlements, had never really grown past the hamlet part of it's life-cycle. It did, however, have a boisterous enough population to catch the eye of Deth Malynch, the aforementioned necromancer. "The Band of Merry Ventures" had been following Deth's army, trying to stake down the leader himself. They were taking a rest in Torn licking their wounds when Malynchs forces struck the town in force. The battle lasted over 16 hours. The final fight lay between The Band and Deth accompanied by his four riders.

Battleforged had never believed in gods before that battle. His roots dug deep in the blood soaked earth of the fight. That day however he felt a new power begin to surge in him. In this final battle Battleforged surged with power; each blow stronger than the next. As his hammer struck it's final blow Maleke was filled with visions. Sights of redemption for his honor. Snippets of the path he must take. That day he met the pantheon and those that would guide him until death.

Maleke's attention dropped back in as the gnome mentioned something about questions. "Ave you met any goads yet?" It was his goal to serve the battle pantheon and he had always hoped an opportunity to meet the many gods that ruled in it.

ooc: If you have any questions about the Pantheon or Malekes gods just ask me in the OOC boards
