Maleke took well to instruction. His eyes glazed to everything else but the other tear. A searing cyan was his only focus. The wisdom of centuries focuses his mind on this singular task (to go faster than everybody else because, yes, this is a race) [result]6&3,d20,3,6&d20+3[/result] Eyes crossed and strained Maleke makes gradual effort towards the exit portal. Though the pressures inside him mind leave him overwhelmingly taxed. PS: should we roll for something? No? That's too bad, because I really want to roll for something I shouldn't have rolled for something... Edited by Tyler J Pineactupus, Sep 12 2014, 07:39 AM.

"Some of my family members occasionally use spells that enables them to travel through her for short distances. Though I was told of this experience, it's quite interesting to be here first hand," I say breathlessly |

James Harrington I walk through the portal with the group. P.S. I must have not posted my previous reply to Kioko's question about introducing ourselves; below is my response. "My name is James Harrington, I work in private security consulting. I was in Torn to locate some stolen documents. My job was completed a few days ago and I decided to stay around and witness the opening of the tear. Needless to say when I saw an opportunity to help the public, I took it without question. Good friends are worth ten times their weight in gold. After all, my line of work requires me to be well liked." |

M. Herschel Pierce ((I guess I forgot to introduce Herschel also.))
Uh, Herschel Pierce. Wizard. Herschel straightens his glasses and combs his fingers through his hair after rematerializing in the Ethereal Plane. Gripping his staff tightly, he focuses his mind and propels himself toward the cyan portal. |

Ted shakes Kioko's hand and says, "I am Theodore, son of Odin." And he walks through the portal. |

Meleke Despite the strained effort you put into it, you find yourself quickly lagging behind the spectral forms of your companions as you see the rest of them storm ahead of you towards the cyan opening in the ether. "You are putting to much effort into it, my friend," Reginald suggests as he glides ahead. "You must relax your body, let the ether do the work for you: in this realm, our physical bodies become less of substance and more of energy. It's..." he taps his chin, "It's actually a bit too difficult to explain, but putting it simply our being in here makes 'physical' tasks simpler." Kioko "It is funny, in a way: as you say, arcane users have delved in to this plane frequently in their research. So, it really is not so new to our peoples. But, I imagine using the portals will be many, many individual's first experience of it. I still remember mine." He looks around the vast infinity of the ether as their cyan portal draws closer. "I don't think it has yet lost its luster for me." James "I thank you for your civil duties then, James. I assure you, should we return with the Gems, I'll be sure to credit you all for your endeavors to Torn's council and nobility. Your requests for your services will increase tenfold if I can help it." "Where do you operate outside of Torn, if you don't mind my asking?" Herschel "A pleasure to meet you... one moment. Pierce?" He turns back his head as he looks at the young wizard, brow drooping, "You don't happen to have a sister, do you? A Tabitha Pierce?" Ted "Son of Odin? You are a priest of the Norse pantheon then. I pray your journey takes you farther than mine, I never had the opportunity to meet any Gods on my trip through the labyrinth." All As you all arrive at the portal (Meleke the last to arrive), Reginald turns to you all and says, "It is good to make all of your acquaintances. I've come to learn that friends are among the most important assets available to anyone who braves the dangers of the labyrinth." Placing his hand close to the portal, he adds, "Prepare yourselves: moving back into a material plane isn't much more comfortable than leaving it." At his hands touch, the tear in the ether glows bright blue-green and opens slightly, as your spectral bodies glow bright in response, eventually dissipating into the smallest building blocks of matter as you are all disintegrated once more and sucked into the portal, traveling through the rip in dimensions like liquid through a straw, emerging on the other side as your bodies are reconstituted from scratch, your sight returns to you with vision of a new scene... You see a vast forest laid out before you, but the trees are unlike any you've seen before, being a stark greyish-pink in color with vibrant pink leaves adorning them at the top. The forest is thick, as the portal drops you off roughly 10 feet off of the ground with roughly a few arms-length worth of space between the trunk of each tree. High up above, a magenta colored sky and sun shine through the canopy of the tree tops giving a bit of light in the shade. The ground is covered in a tall grass, but much like the trees, the grass is unnaturally colored vibrant pink, much like the tree leaves. And besides that, there is an odd scent in the air: one like that of heated metal, the forest smelling of a large forge. The portal behind you all, white in color as opposed to the cyan color you witnessed from inside it, closes to a thinner space as you all leave it, and Reginald's gem, now reappeared in his grieved glove, dims its bright glow to a dull, cyan colored rock. "Well," Reginald looks up at the portal, "That was not so bad this time." He takes a look at his stone, "It will take some time for the Gem to attune to this plane, but hopefully we'll be ready to go by the time it is." Reginald pockets the gem, and looks around the oddly colored forest. "This isn't good, though... the lead she had was astounding, and this forest seems very vast. I can't even see any signs of settlements she may have fled to through these trees." Reginald peers at the pink canopy, roughly 30 feet above you, "Perhaps if we had a view from up there?" |

Maleke crouches down and starts studying the trees around him, looking for signs of what immediate direction she might have taken off in. If you want investigation [result]10&11,d20,0,11&d20[/result] If you want Perception [result]18&15,d20,3,18&d20+3[/result] |

James Harrington In response to Sir Reginald "You may have heard of the master confidence man who went by the name, "Johnathon McAdam" known for tricking the Duke of Cessford and the Duke of Lorn into giving him huge sums of gold under the guise of selling them both each other's castles. Very cleaver but I uncovered that McAdam's secret stash never left Lorn. In the end all the gold was returned to the lords, after my 15% cut of course. Made me very wealthy that one." After the portal "We can always assume that she needs to come back here to leave and set up a watch to catch her." Perception:[result]7&2,1d20,5,7&1d20+5[/result] |

M. Herschel Pierce
Why do you ask? ____________________________________________ Once through the portal, Herschel takes a few moments to reorient himself and get a sense of his surroundings. Pink foliage, interesting. Lucretius would be interested. Herschel plucks a couple of the pink leaves from a low-hanging branch and sticks them in one of the back pages of his spellbook.
It's possible, but I don't think we have the time for it. It's not likely that our thief knew enough about the portals to realize that there's a deadline to the return trip. She may return eventually, but probably not before this world is out of range of the Torn portal. No, if we want to find her we'll have to go looking. Herschel thumbs through his spellbook and, finding the correct page, begins to cast a Detect Magic ritual. Perhaps the thief's planar gems left behind some kind of residual aura they could follow. |

I attempt to do a graceful landing from the 10ft drop Acrobatics: [result]4&4,1d20,0,4&1d20[/result] I immediately assess our surroundings Perception: [result]25&20,1d20,5,25&1d20+5[/result] "Indeed a better vantage point would serve us well right now." I reply.
"Herschel is right, we don't have time to sit and wait," I say while I get ready to climb a near by tree. With that said I take 5 feet back from the tree I decide I can climb. I run, jump and take a few step on the trunk and grab a branch. With a firm grip I proceed to climb a tree. Athletics: [result]17&14,1d20,3,17&1d20+3[/result] Feat: Athlete - climbing doesn't halve your speed. - you can make a running long jump or running high jump after only moving 5 feet on foot , rather than 10 feet "One of you see if you can find some track from our thief," I call down as I climb the tree as if the air itself is lifting me. |
