Character Traits
© Copyright Medaka Box RP

Traits are sets of characteristics that help define a character. Some characters are strong, some are weak, some have special talents in areas and some possess Abilities in various ways. Every character on Medaka Box RP can gain traits to help them give them bonuses in various areas.

In order to "gain" a trait a character has to purchase it with Development Points (DP) equal to the cost of the trait itself. Depending on the trait the costs can be quite high but more expensive traits will garner bigger or better bonuses than lower ones. As long as a character has the DP to buy a trait they are capable of gaining it.

All traits can be found in this topic here, but if you would like a quick menu to each type of trait you can find them here:

Traits Menu

A character may also make custom traits if they wish, but to do so you apply for the trait in this forum

Final Recap

  • A character can buy traits using DP to gain various benefits.
  • A character can have any number of traits as long as they have the necessary DP to buy them.

Statistical Traits

Stat traits are traits that show someone is especially skilled in a certain stat, be they exceptionally tough or strong or quick. Stat traits usually work by adding an additional point whenever someone earns a certain amount, so for example you earn 5 points in one stat and gain an additional 1.

Further, all stat traits are applicable only up to a base cap of 80, meaning that once a stat hits 80 base points (as in you've naturally placed 80 DP into that stat) a stat trait no longer works. So in the 5:1 example the most your trait can earn you is a bonus 20 (80/5 = 16) so once you have 80 in that stat your amount will be 96. However there do exist traits to increase the stat cap so your stat traits can work for longer.

Ability & Technique Traits

Ability traits are solely used (at this stage) to gain abilities for your character, be they Minuses, Skills or Styles.
Ability Traits
TraitDP CostTrait DescriptionNocode Description
Ability (Minus)75 DPThe user gains a Minus, an Ability gained through a deeply negative personality and furthered by trauma and hardship. Characters who take this trait must have a negative personality. Minuses are the most powerful abilities available but are also fairly strict in their techniques. A character can only ever have one minus.

Ability (Skill)60 DPThe user gains a Skill, an abnormal ability usually focused inwards that is beyond the normal bounds of human limitation. Skills are the middle ground between Minuses and Styles. A character may have up to three Skills, but may only have one if they also have a Minus.

Ability (Style)50 DPThe user gains a Style, an ability that consists of manipulating words or a force in the world in some way. All Style-users have a single character tattooed on their tongue that best represents their ability. While styles are the least powerful in terms of overall strength they are the most versatile of abilities, gaining many techniques. A character may only have one Style at a time but may switch their Styles by taking this trait again.

Technique traits are primarily used to gain additional techniques for an Ability, though some traits exist that increase the power of existing techniques in various ways.
Technique Traits
TraitDP CostTrait DescriptionNocode Description
Technique Slot (Minus)50 DPThe user gains an extra technique slot to gain an additional technique for a Minus. This trait may be taken multiple times.

Technique Slot (Skill)35 DPThe user gains an extra technique slot to gain an additional technique for a Skill. This trait may be taken multiple times.

Technique Slot (Style)15 DPThe user gains an extra technique slot to gain an additional technique for a Style. This trait may be taken multiple times.

Signature Technique50 DPA trait used to enhance a single technique and make it ones "signature". A single technique may be made a signature technique and that technique in turn increases in power twice as fast as one that is not a signature. So should a technique need 20 DP to level up, a Signature technique would only need 10.
Spoiler: click to toggle

Technique Adept200 DPDue to how skilled the user is with techniques the user gains an additional technique whenever they take a Technique Slot trait available to their Ability. So a character with this trait who takes "Technique Slot (Skill)" would gain two technique slots instead of one.
