Some of you may have seen or heard about a game being developed by this group of talented people, called MegaMan New Horizon. It is developed for the VGBA emulator, and has been worked on for around 3 years. It is a massive project with a lot dedication and hard work.On the 14th of August, they have released the demo of the game to give a sample of what to come. Read on for the review.

The game takes place during the MegaMan Zero series. After many battles against the Neo Acadia, X (in his cyber-elf form) suggest a newplan for peace; to leave Tera and start a new life on the far away planet Epsilon Indrii. However, Zero, Ciel and others of the Resistance do not wish to withdraw their weapons, and in result the Resistance divided. One part stayed to finish the war, the other left for the new planet on the ship called "Icarus." Years later, once settled on Epsilon Indrii, disaster strikes in the new capitol, Elysium. The threat of mavericks has returned, and the fate of people and reploids lies in the hands of the legendary reploid, Mega Man X.

The story itself is rather very interesting, and ties quite well within the MegaMan Zero series, if you have played all of them. This though, is just a small fragment of the actual depth of the story. If you wish to know more, visit the game game plot page at the MegaMan New Horizon website.

Now, let's talk about how the demo is played. You start out in a laboratory playing as X. The basic actions of the game are jumping, walking, dashing, and wall kicking. The buster charge is not available at the moment in this demo, but maybe it will be enabled later on as more development is progressed. As well, your buster only fires one bullet at a time, with a small break between each shot. The only way to achieve something close to rapid fire is to walk and pressing the fire button. So far, those are the main controls you have and weapons.

The A.I. of the game is actually rather intelligent in some cases, and is probably tougher at this point than what you have seen in the MegaMan Zero series. If they see you, they'll come in your direction and open fire. If you damage them they'll try to charge at you, and at the same time to go around and hit you from behind. In some cases, they can easily team up against you. Be aware, since the charged shot and rapid fire hasn't been introduced yet, you might get killed easily if you hang around a group of them.

The areas in the game are very well done. They suite the game really well, and bring a certain feel to them as you go from a laboratory, to the damaged street full of mavericks for you to destroy. The area that I really liked was the damaged lab, which is located past the street areas. It has a nice window effect, which turns the persepective as you move either forward or back. That gives it a more realistic feel to the game.

Speaking of areas and graphics, the MegaMan New Horizon also offers a cinematic for you to enjoy. It tells the basic story of the game, along with some of the best looking artwork I have seen in a GBA game. They look stunning, colorful, and fit in perfectly with every description shown below them.

The music that I've heard in the game so far fits the mood and the areas really well. For example, when you are on the damaged streets of Elysium, the music is more fast paced giving it more tension, and a battle-like feel to it as you fight your way through against the mavericks.

Overall, this is a very well done demo. It provides you with a starting plot of the game, key controls that you will most likely be using in the full version, and vast enviroments to keep you waiting to play others. The game itself offers a large variety of characters, many different areas of the new world, and amazing collection of events that will probably all occur in this game, which will make it long lasting and enjoyable. There are some bugs in the demo, but nothing that will hurt the gameplay. You may also notice that many of the effects haven't been added yet. Remember, this is only the demo.

You may also add a suggestion of your own here., which may be used in the game later on. Finally, if you have an error or bug to report, before submitting it, please check the Technical Details page. If what you are about to report isn't there, then you should submit it.

Do I recommend you to try the demo? Yes, I do. You can download it here

The buster may shoot slowly, but remember, it's just a demo. They will add the charge and probably rapid fire to the full-length game. But for now, it's not complete, so many features are unavailable.
