The Medical Ghost

A young woman lay on one of the infirmary beds, on her stomach, head propped up by her hands. Her legs swung back and forth in the air behind her, a soft lullaby-like melody hummed in her gentle voice. Though she looked sick enough to be one of the patients herself, this was Melissa, the nurse of the infirmary. She 'took care' of the sick students at the academy.

Today had been surprisingly quiet, making the secluded office a rather lonely place. Melissa sometimes liked it when it was silent, other times she felt swallowed by her own curious mind, and craved for the company of others to keep her occupied. It never did anyone too much good to be left alone for extended periods of time.

A seemingly ordinary human walked briskly down the hallway, leaving a crimson red trail as he went. In fact, he didn't realize he was bleeding from the head until he had scratched his head. Even the sleeve of his shirt was drenched scarlet red. Looking at his blood stained hand, with a shrug, he walked in the direction of the Infirmary. He hadn't actually went to the Infirmary before. He didn't really like the smell of it and chose to stay away but with the amount of blood, it would get pretty annoying if it didn't stop soon.

Turning around the corner, he saw the little sign which had the word 'INFIRMARY' printed on it. The air wafting out from the room smelled like a well used and disinfected out house. Why did he even know that smell? Whatever it was, it stunk for sure. Kinda gross, really. Peeking in, he scanned the room, his heterochromatic eyes darting about. There was the presence of another, coming from the direction of the beds. A woman with pale complexion, a white dress and also white hair to boot. Was she a patient here? She definitely looked sick. He could hear her voice resonating even while heading towards the Infirmary, making him think for a moment that the Infirmary could possibly be haunted. With the thick, dark red liquid slowly oozing out, he asked rather reluctantly, "Is the Nurse here?"

It made him wonder why he was here in the first place if he didn't want to head to the Infirmary. There wasn't anyone else in the Infirmary other than the woman who looked rather sickly. The question felt like an obvious one to him. What were the chances of the woman being the Nurse? He hadn't even tried to think about it. The metallic smell of blood and the stench of the Infirmary was getting on his nerves. He began to contemplate whether he should just go somewhere else and clean the blood off.

"...hee.~" the woman giggled, a smile stretching wide across her face at the sound of another person. He sounded hesitant, unsure. Perfect. He carried with him the sweet, strong scent of blood, and it excited her fingers. They twitched where they rested on her cheeks. What would they do today? Cleaning? Cutting? Stitching? They itched at the thought of threading a needle and holding cold flesh--

Time to stop dreaming and find out.

Rolling off the bed, her face was blank by the time she was facing Lzet, as if the smile had never existed. Straightening out the crinkles in her dress, her almond-shaped eyes first noticed his face and his dark eyes, and then they picked out the bloodied gash. The edges of her lip twitched, pressing together to avoid an overly disturbing smile. Now was not the time. "Present." she simply replied, walking over in her thin bare feet and slipping into the white patent heels she had left by the door, inviting the boy inside.

Who would've thought that the sick looking woman would be the Nurse? She had let out a giggle which.. to be honest, gave him the creeps. Everything about the woman from head to toe was eerie. She could fit into a horror scenario easily. Were all the other Academy Employees this strange? He had heard rumours about the Librarian and the Gardener. The Librarian supposedly almost killed someone for defiling the books and the Gardener sprouted out from the ground just like a seed of sorts. Perhaps this school was just plain nuts.

When the woman had beckoned to him, he stepped in the room, unsure if he made the correct choice. The atmosphere in the room seemed quite tense to him but he didn't say a word, standing awkwardly in the room. Maybe he shouldn't have went to the Infirmary after all. At least she didn't come out from the medicine cabinet. "..I fell down the stairs," was all he said and remained silent again. Curse him and his feet for tripping himself just at the staircase. Rolling down the steps wasn't a very fun thing to do. Two flights too. How does one even continue rolling down another flight of stairs? It was even more so odd that he didn't realize he was bleeding, especially after knocking his head on the ground.

She stood there as he entered the room, looking at him blankly. There was a long pause as they stood there awkwardly, looking at one another. She contemplated what he said. Then, her hand moved to the side and she discreetly shut the door. The small click of a lock could be heard. "Take a seat." the Nurse said, in that quiet tone of hers, before she decided to be a little more hospitable, and said "Please." She even tried a small smile for size, which seemed rather melancholic on her thin features.

Walking away from the door she took a seat in her wheels office chair and gave it a spin when she pushed herself over to the deceptively human-looking fera. Grazing her toes on the floor so she would stop spinning, the childish woman sat forward on her chair, leaning towards him. "I'm going to examine you." Melissa informed Lzet, not even bothering with a 'May I?' Or other common courtesies as she reached out to touch his head.

He felt uncomfortable as the woman stared at him. He was getting chills everywhere. His ears twitched slightly when he heard a small click. Did the woman just lock the door? No matter. He could break the lock, disintegrate the whole door, jump out of the window.. Perhaps the last option wasn't all that of a good idea. Upon hearing her speak, he turned to look at her. She could pass for a ghost. He wouldn't even be surprised if she started to phase through walls and stuff. Slowly sitting down, cautious of her actions, he continued observing the other.

He hadn't actually been to a doctor or a nurse before. The polar bear Fera that was part of his little group of friends had always been treating his wounds but they had all went separate ways quite long ago. Since then, he had always ignored all his wounds but this time the red liquid kept stinging his eyes because it wouldn't stop flowing. His body became stiff when the woman was sitting in front of him. He was just a tad bit taller than her and his own eyes easily met her eyes, red as fresh blood. He remained still when the other's hand was reaching out. Heck, he would run away if the woman did something funny. Though he wasn't sure what could be considered funny.

Her fingers curled away from his skin just before she made contact, looking at her fingers blankly, before making a small 'Ah' sound, and reaching over to her desk to put some gloves on. She couldn't be too hasty now. The nurse's gaze was distant, for such a sharp colour optic. She didn't seem entirely 'with it' and she reached over again and began gently removing the hair matted with blood from the cut. It surprised her that he hadn't keeled over and fainted yet, with his sleeve drenched like that. Probing the angry lips of the wound, Melissa's expression changed to a frown for a moment, before she took a bowl of cotton patches, soaking in cleaning alcohol. "This will sting." She commented again, detached from the process. One hand held his fringe up while the other smoothed the pad across the surface of his skin, erasing blood as it moved. Occasionally, it would be dipped back into the bowl or refreshed for a new one, tinting the water light red. Was that safe? Was that even clean? Maybe if the cut became infected, he'd come back to visit. ...That might be nice.

Melissa continued to clean the surrounding area, before taking a wad of soft material and pressing it to the open wound, staunching the bleeding. She worked in silence, fairly efficiently, only lingering on some actions. Her eyes never deviated from the site of injury. While she pressed the cloth to his forehead, she offered a clean one dampened with water for his eyes, knowing that his eyes were irritated as well.

He was slightly puzzled when the woman had retracted her hand and put on a pair of gloves. He obviously wasn't an expert on the medical field. He remained still as the woman pushed his hair aside and even as she examined his wound. He had ended up spacing out and didn't listen to what she had said. He wasn't even fazed when the cotton soaked in cleaning alcohol was brushed against his wound. He snapped out of his trance at a later time but still didn't react to the pain. This pain was nothing in comparison to..

Now that he thought about it, were the tools in the Infirmary even clean? Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, Corynebacterium.. They were pretty common bacteria. He couldn't be bothered to continue scrutinizing the bacteria around. Not like he would be affected by them. His body held many types of antibodies that an ordinary person wouldn't have. Even if by a small chance there was a kind of bacteria that he didn't have the antibody for, he could just create another type of bacteria that would counteract the other.

He blinked at the damp cloth offered to him but he declined it. Sure, his eyes might be irritated but he wasn't going to accept it. He was a stubborn one and it is almost impossible to convince him otherwise once he had made up his mind.

He didn't want to wipe his eyes? ... He was just like a doll. She liked that. Just because it made him a good patient. Yes, that was all... Using the cloth to wipe his eyes for him, she held his chin with her thumb, index and middle fingers to hold his face steady. Swapping the cleaning cloth for another, she dabbed it in a thick white cream and smeared it over the wound, obviously a disinfectant.

Leaning in slightly, she focused on his face and the wound, brows furrowing in concentration. "...Stitches." she murmured, turning away, unable to suppress a shudder of excitement at one of her favourite procedures. Stitching things back together was almost as enjoyable as cutting then apart in the first place. The nurse's fingers trembled for a moment as they danced across different sizes of needles on the trolley of equipment, easily mistakable for nervousness. They stopped after a moment, a blank medical precision retaining control of her features as she turned back to Lzet, threading the needle with thin sutre material.

"Brace.~" she told him, holding the needle with a thin smile. Surely he wouldn't refuse with a wound like that. Surely not...
