God! I haven't updated in a century. Sorry for the wait, I hope you're still interested in reading, here's more! I'll try to update religiously ![]() Francesca's POV "Hey guys!" Kirk and Aubrey entered the bar together walking side by side. James was seated next to me and I could feel him automatically tense up a bit. It worried me because some how I got this strange feeling that he still had some attached feelings to her. I knew he still loved her, it was written all over his face. It hurt me deeply. I knew this time I had to compete for the man I love. The worst part was that Aubrey wasn't even trying to get him back. It was vice versa. "Hi." Aubrey waved at everyone and hugged Skylar, Lars, and Jason, but when it came to James she just smiled and she took a seat next to me. "Hi Francesca. How are you?" She asked sweetly. I smiled and tugged James closer to me, "I'm great." She nodded and looked over to James, "Sup Het," I let my gaze stroll over to James who grinned like a fool. I already knew what he was thinking, I shook my head solemnly. "Hey Aubrey. Ready for me to drink you under the table?" He asked teasingly. Aubrey snorted and shook her head, "Nah, I'm just gonna sit this one out. But you go right ahead. Do your best..." She grinned and leaned forward on the table. James caught a slight glimpse at her exposed cleavage and stared hungrily. I groaned in the inside. I'm never gonna win. "Hey you want a drink?" Kirk strolled over and asked her. She nodded and said, "A coke would be nice." Kirk furrowed his brows probably confused. I guess she wanted to remain sober through the night. Usually I never really drank beer however I felt like drying a Coors on the spot. Within minutes everyone was drinking and having a great time. Even my feelings of sadness went away with the help of alcohol. I decided to drink lightly though, too much could lead to trouble. However I couldn't shake away the side glances James would give Aubrey every so often. I wanted so bad to punch his arm and remind him that he was there with his girlfriend and not his ex. While James couldn't stray an eye off Aubrey, she remained to herself and looked around talking to Skylar every now and then. The music was playing loud and Aerosmith filled the bar's speakers with Walk this way. People were dancing and having a great time. James tapped my arm and said, "Hey I'm gonna go over to the bar with Kirk, Lars, and Jason. Ok?" He yelled loudly because it was so loud in the bar. I nodded and yelled, "Ok." James got up and winked at me and grabbed Lars by his jacket and dragged him over to the bar with Jason and Kirk following him. It was just Skylar, Aubrey, and I together. We talked about girl stuff. Skylar told us about her and Lars' wedding planning and where they were probably going to have their ceremony at. "I think you should go for it." Aubrey said enthusiastically. "The beach seems like a nice place to get married. Especially during the sunset." She smiled and her eyes drifted to the table, "I wanted to have my wedding ceremony on the beach in Rio de Janeiro or Punta del este." She smiled. I knew she began to think about her and James. It was written all over her face. "Have you been there before?" I asked. It found it to be a coincidence that she and I both were very familiar with South America. "Yeah, all the time. My dad is from there-- well he's from Brazil, but they relocated to Punta del este when he was three years old. He took us there every holiday to visit our grandparents and other family members. On some occasions we'd fly to Africa and go to Cairo to visit my mom's side if the family in Egypt. I remember when I was ten my granddad took us to see the ancient pyramids and the sphinx. It was awesome." She began to pick at her nails, "James and I took Dominique there in '93 when he was one to see the pyramids and to visit my family. We've been to South America plenty of times, though. I'm thinking about sending little man there to visit his folks this summer..." Aubrey bit her lip and looked into my eyes and for the first time she gave me a sincere smile of approval. "That's nice." Was all I could say. It seemed like they had a nice life before James and I got together. I cleared my throat, "Well I'm from Argentina. Rosario to be exact. Ever been to Buenos Aires?" I asked. "Yeah," She nodded, "I have family there too." She laughed, "Its a beautiful city, but their--ummm, customs are really different from Brazil. Like their Spanish is more almost like Italian and in Brazil we speak Portuguese." "Yeah, it is." "Are you completely, Argentinean?" She asked. "Nah. My dad is Argentinean, but my mom is American." "Oh. Well that's cool too." She chuckled. For some odd reason I started to lighten up to her. She was so easy to talk to. It was crazy. Now I realized why James likes her so much. She's sweet and comical. She was so chill that it scared me almost. She made things easier for me. Aubrey was genuinely a good person at heart. I couldn't help but think of all the hurt James cause her. When we met he swore to god that he was single, no strings attached. I should have known he was lying to me, but I was so naïve. "Hey girls. I'm gonna go to the restroom." Skylar got up and went away to the restroom leaving Aubrey and I alone. She cleared her throat and said, "You know when James and I first met, I was seventeen. I used to work with Bob in the studio, and I'd be there most times with the guys. I was closest to Lars and later came Jason and Kirk... But James, he was very distant. He approached me first and after that, we basically came together and gotten closer. I was reluctant to agree to date him when he asked because I'd seen him do many unpleasant things, but I agreed to it. He cheated a lot though. I was two seconds away from leaving him, but when I found out that I was pregnant with Dominique, he begged me to stay and for almost a while he acted like a phenomenal boyfriend catering to my every need and swearing that he'd change and all that other cliche bull crap that guys say when they figure out that they're gonna be a dad." She sat back, leaning on to the chair and huffed, "Y'know I always wondered why does it have to take a child to bring guys to face reality, but I guess that wasn't it because after he was born James fell back into those old habits." Aubrey sighed and looked over to James and back at me, "If he cheated on me to be with you, he's gonna cheat on you to be with someone else..." She said slowly. Every single word that was said, was absolutely true. For some reason I saluted Aubrey in a way because she's known James longer than I have and was able to deal with his antics better. She's experienced everything I have already, only she has a child by him, I don't. "I know." I sighed, "He already has." I revealed a painful secret. It wasn't really a secret because everyone knew that James cheated on me plenty of times, but it was just too much to reveal to his newly ex-girlfriend. The last thing I wanted to tell her was that I wasn't entirely happy with James being a low down dog. Aubrey sat back in her chair and smirked, "You don't say." She rolled her eyes and replied sarcastically while sipping her drink. "I don't know why women put him in a high pedestal. He's just like the rest of them. Maybe even worse." Aubrey shook her head. She leaned in closer to me and whispered, "You may want to keep a keen eye on Mr. Hetfield there. I wouldn't want you to end up like me." She nodded over to James who was talking with Kirk and Lars. He and the guys were talking and pointing at a group of women over on the dance floor. I was about to speak, but no words came out. Could it be true? Would James really leave me for another woman? James' POV I noticed that Fran and Aubrey were talking over at the table. I wasn't gonna lie it kinda made me feel a bit more suspicious. I knew I was the topic of their conversation. My gaze laid on Aubrey who kept talking and smiling with Fran. God, she looked as beautiful as ever. I missed her laughter and the way she'd snort when she laughed if something was really funny. I missed her so much. "What's up with you man?" Jason asked, capturing Lars' attention. I looked up at them and shook my head softly turning my gaze back to Aubrey. Lars exchanged a look with Kirk. Lars batted his eyelashes and grinned. "Is it about Little miss sunshine over there?" Lars teased. He was right. I couldn't stop thinking about her. Jason's head shot over to the Dane, "Aubrey?" Jason asked. "Y'know James finally left her for Fran, right?" Kirk settled his eyes on Aubrey. Jason looked at me in disbelief, "What the hell?" He furrowed his brows, "She's hotter and looks-- Man, I can't believe you left her for Fran!" I slapped Jason's arm and frowned. "What the fuck, man?!" I yelled. "Don't fucking fault me for leaving her! Look can we not talk about this?!" I asked. "James come on, man." Lars placed his hand on my shoulder, "Even you want her! It's so fucking obvious. You've practically been drooling over her all night!" I looked at my friends and back over to Aubrey. I was able to catch her eye and she smiled solemnly and looked off. Jason's eyes studied Aubrey attentively and he smirked, "Man, you're in for some trouble." Jason shook his head lightly and bit his lip. "Yeah thanks for reminding me..." I said sarcastically and rolled my eyes groaning. "Honestly, I don't know what was going on with you when you left her in the first place." Kirk said. And speaking of Kirk, I remembered when Aubrey told me that they fucked. My eyes turned cold instantly. To avoid making a scene I calmly asked Kirk if it was true, "Kirk, did you by any chance sleep with Aubrey. Once?" I asked taking a sip of beer. Kirk looked around nervously and swallowed the lump that starred to form in his throat, "Ye-- Yeah. I did. I'm so sorry man, I swear." I smirked and nodded. Who gives a fuck anyway? I'll let him slide--this time. " And just to make it clear, none of you guys are allowed to mess with Aubrey at all." I pointed warning each of my friends. Only I can communicate with Aubrey, no one else. "Whoa! You're acting like you own her or something." Lars said. "Yeah James, I thought you broke up with her." Jason interjected. I almost wanted to kill the both of them. "I do own her! She's my son's mom! Nobody goes near her or I'll kill you, kapeesh?" The guys just stared at me like I was a joke. "Sure you will." Lars mumbled and took a sip of beer. "You're problem is that you're fucking pissed because you left her and she's happy, and it took you to hookup with someone else to realize that you still love her." Lars raised his brows. "Am I right?" he asked. I rolled my eyes, "Whatever man..." I was pissed at this point. Even if he was right, I don't want him calling me out on it. "If I left Aubrey, it was my decision. Just let me deal with it!" "Yeah, but the thing is that you still want her." Kirk said. "You should hit that one last time." Jason said smirking. "No, he shouldn't! I mean, if he were single-- yeah." Kirk argued back. Lars shrugged his shoulders and smirked. "If you want to-- I mean, I would. Hell I'd bang the hell out of her into next year," Lars said staring at Aubrey. I shook my head, "You guys are ridiculous." I said as I drank the last of my beer. "James, man. Come on," Jason urged. Kirk shoved Jason then he looked back at me. "Man, don't listen to him! You're with Fran now! I know you still love her and she's hot as hell, but come on! Commitment!" Kirk said slowly. I looked at Kirk and turned to Lars and Jason for their opinions. Jason winked at me and said, "What she don't know won't hurt." I turned to Lars and he shrugged nonchalantly and said, "Do what you want." |

Hi ladies! I'm so sorry for the delay My computer malfunctioned and I had to get it fixed but it's fine now and I'm ready to roll Here's the next installment of the story, enjoy! Aubrey's POV I was still chatting with Skylar and Francesca about girly things. Not gonna lie, it was getting a little boring only because I was getting tired. I guess when you have kids, going to bed early becomes a norm and something you can't control. While Francesca and SKylar continued to talk, I zoned out and began to look around the bar. People were still dancing and of course drinking heavily as if the night was young, young my ass because it was one o'clock in the morning. Muffled sounds of singing and loud conversations and gossiping filled the air while Def Leppard radiated from the bar's speakers. I let my gaze cast upon the guys at the bar, and not to my surprise, Hetfield was staring at me attentively like my old nemeses, the wolf. That same predatory gaze he gave me the night after we first met. That same look that said, "Tonight you're mines." This is absolutely great, not. I can't believe this guy, you leave me then you act as if you desperately want me back. His logic was always so strange to me and I hated that. Don't fuck around and expect me to still want you at the end of the day. I glared back at him and rolled my eyes, diverting my gaze. My back slammed back into the chair and I folded my arms across my chest trying to ignore his tantalizing eyes. "Are you ok?" Skylar asked. "Huh?" I replied, then remembered her question, "Uh, yeah. I'm fine, thanks..." I said. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ As soon as I got back home I ran to change into my pajama and decided to watch some TV just to clear my rapid mind. On television there was some sort of movie about a couple-- needless to say I wasn't surprised. It was obviously a romance and it was at the part where the guy is practically begging his ex to stay. "Come on babe! I love you so much! She didn't mean anything to me," he pleaded. "I don't know," The girl was crying and trying to believe him. The only thing that ran through my mind was that she was completely vulnerable and naive if she believed him. I was so delusional that even the movie began to piss me off. "UGH! He's lying!" I yelled and chunked the remote at the TV in anger. Whoa, I really need to get a grip of myself. This is ridiculous. Just as I got up to the the remote control my cell rang and it was Erica. "So how was the night out?" SHe asked all ears. I groaned and sat down in a chair, "It was fine. I talked with Skylar and Francesca most of the time..." "And what about James?" She asked suggestively. "What about him?" I retorted. "Did he speak to you?" "Yeah... he continually kept checking me out the entire time we were there," I said. "Talk about uncomfortable." "Don't tell me you didn't like the attention one damn bit." She pushed. "I didn't actually. I really wanted to shout fuck off, but his girlfriend was there so I had to keep my patients." "What about Fran? Did she say anything?" "No, only except about James being an ass sometimes. I guess she'll soon find out that the grass isn't necessarily always greener on the other side." "Francesca didn't notice James eyeballing you?" "I know she did, it was completely obvious to the naked eye. I'm sure she just did what ever other girl would do, be in denial and pay it no attention just to spare their feelings." Erica chuckled, "She was probably dying inside." "Yeah, but its James' fault." "How?" "He's making her look bad... He should've just stayed with me and tried to sort things out, but he let his dick seize control and make his own decisions. Instead of settling for temptation, he should've just ignored it and we all wouldn't be in such an awkward situation." "James will be James, he's guy. They cheat and think with their dicks. What's new? I remember when he'd always stare at other women when you guys were together..." "Unlike Fran, I got his ass in check. She's too much of a push over." "I thought I was the only person thinking that." "No, you're not. She is a bit of a push over, I'll be surprised if she lasted that long." "I would too..." She said. _______________________________________________________________ "Hey," I said to my mom as I walked into my parents home. I wanted to talk to her about James and I being separated and hopefully get some sort of much needed advice from her. "Hey honey! How are you," my mom asked as she hugged me tightly. "I'm fine," I replied a s walked over to her couch to take a seat. My mom stared at me attentively and then asked, "Where's Dominique? You know I really don't get to see him that often." I shrugged, "He's with James, mom." She then relaxed, "Oh. So how is James? Is he alright?" she asked concerned. "Oh he's fine alright," I thought. "I remember seeing something about him and the guys on the television," she stated. I nodded, "Yeah, that's what I wanted to talk to you about." She grew suspicious and leaned forward in her chair. "What happened? Is everything alright?" she asked. "There's trouble in paradise," i said sarcastically. I sighed, "Mom, James and I aren't together any more." Her eyes grew wide and she asked, "Are you serious?" I nodded absent-mindedly, "Yeah..." "How'd did this all happen?" she asked. Her voice growing stern. "Well you know when I went to Erica's nephew's birthday party?" She nodded. "I came home to an empty house and there was a letter on the counter for me, written by James." I began to play with my hands nervously, "Apparently he's been having an affair with their wardrobe lady and well he decided to finally leave me... for her..." When I finished my mom looked every bit of surprised and maybe a tiny bit infuriated. She sat back on the couch and sighed, "I can not believe this. How dare he leave you and your child like that! Have you spoken to him since?" She asked. I sighed and rolled my eyes,"Obviously, if Dominique is with him..." "What did he say?" she asked. "You know, all that bullshit about how sorry he is and please forgive him, and I still love you." I smirked, "You know, the usual." The usual pure bullshit. "James, James, James..." she shook her head, repeating his name disappointedly. "He's going to figure out sooner or later that the grass isn't as greener on the other side." I chuckled remembering the other night, "I think he's already figuring that out," I smiled. "Why?" "Because, he couldn't keep his eyes off of me last night. We went out with his friends and his girlfriend was there." "How did his friends react to seeing you guys separate?" she asked. I chucked remembering everyone's weird stares when they saw James with Fran and me with Kirk, "Surprised. Not to mention it was excruciatingly awkward," I said. "What about his girlfriend?" she asked. I smirked solemnly, "What about her." I said. "What's her name?" My mom asked inquisitively. "Francesca." I said in a mock fancy French accent. My mom nodded and smiled slyly, "That's a nice name." she replied. I rolled my eyes feeling indifferent, "She sure doesn't look like a Francesca." "Well, we all don't seem to look like our names, Aubrey." My mom said. "Yeah, well I'm just really pissed off right now. So much, I could care less." I sighed and diverted my gaze to the lifetime movie that was on TV. My mom scuffled off the couch and came to stand by my side,"Give him some time, babe. He'll come around," she said while rubbing my shoulder. I looked up at her and flashed back into my thoughts. How in the hell am I gonna give him time if he's already with someone? That made no sense at all. Maybe she meant as if he'd leave and come back to me, but that's different. I don't want James back, well do I? I stayed at my parents' house for thirty minutes more and talked with my mom about her and my dad's upcoming vacation to Dubai. After that I hopped back in my truck and drove back to Marin to pick up Dominique from James' because I'm sure the lovely couple would like to have some time alone. I knocked on James front door and surprise! It was Francesca. Smile like you've never smiled before, honey! I told myself eagerly. "Hi!" she squealed. "How are you?" I smiled, "I'm fine and you?" Did I really care? She coyly shook her head. Oh great she's doing better than I thought. I knew, who didn't know? She and James must've had a wonderful time last night-- way against my will. "I'm great," she said. "You're here to get Dominique, right?" I nodded, "Of course." Fran led me into their house and I followed her into the living room where James and Dominique were watching the Raiders game. The score was three to zero. I bet you can't guess who's losing. "No! What the Fuck--" "James!" I yelled. He turned around and stared at me in surprise and then gave me an apologetic look. A small smile crept across his face. "When did you get here?" he asked. "A minute ago," I replied. It's so funny how his smile brightened when he saw me, that's a good sign-- I guess. "Oh." he replied. "Stop cursing in front of your son," I demanded. I didn't need him knowing anymore than what he already knew about profanity. It's bad enough that Dominique was a quick learner. "Sorry," he shrugged. He gestured at the game. "But those fuc--," I raised my brows at him and he corrected himself. "The Red Skins scored again!" he complained. I laughed, "What do you expect?" I asked. "The Raiders suck," I mumbled. Next thing I knew, I had two angry pairs of blue eyes glaring at me. I laughed and held my hands up in defense, "God, my bad! It's not my fault you guys root for the worst team in the NFL." Dominique furrowed his brows at me, "Mom the Raiders are awesome!" he retorted. I shrugged, "Alrighty." I continued to stare at my son and his dad as they happily watched the football game. I kinda sorta missed those days when they'd bond together happily, but now everything was jacked and ruined. The perfect family was completely and utterly thrown out the window because of James' thoughtless move. But I guess everything happens for a reason, right? I noticed it was ten past four and it was probably time for Dominique and I to head home. I had to be at work at nine a.m. and Dominique had to be at school before seven forty-five. On top of that I had a shit load of chores to get taken care of and I had to cook dinner. This is when becoming a single mother kicked me in the face almost instantly. How in the hell was I gonna balance all of this without James being around? Then again when we were together, he'd always be on the road so I guess this wasn't any different. "Ok honey it's time to say goodbye to daddy and Francesca," I said standing up and picking up my purse off the floor. Dominique groaned and mumbled something incoherent. "Do I have to?" he asked. I nodded, "Uh, yeah..." "Dominique listen to your mom," James said. Dominique gave James a smug look, lazily stood up, and groaned yet again. Completely annoyed, he slowly stomped up the stairs with an attitude. "Why are you in a hurry?" James asked. Is he kidding me? I shrugged, "I gotta get ready for tomorrow. You know working and taking care of a child." I kinda let the last bit roll off my tongue. "Busy week ahead." James eyed me strangely and nodded. I'm sure he knows my intentions very well. "Where do you work?" Fran asked. "If you don't mind me asking." I shook my head, "It's fine. I work at the hospital, I'm a nursing assistant but I'm desperately trying to become a pediatrician. I love kids." I smiled. "Wow, really?" she asked. "That's really great." I nodded, "Thanks." Then something clicked in That head of mines, "Do you like kids?" I asked. James raised his brows at me and gave me a look that could kill, literally. I furrowed my brows at him in return. Hell if the woman wants kids, my bet is that he'll be the one to give 'em to her. She gasped and smiled sweetly, "I really do. I would absolutely love to have kids one day." She grabbed James' hand and caresses it smiling at him. I smiled-- an ironic smile. On the inside I was in hysterics and I knew James was fearing for his life. I mean the look on his face said it all. Although she didn't mention with whom she'd like to have children with, I'm pretty sure we all know who she's referring to. Dominique came back down stairs carrying his backpack in hand along with a spiderman action figure. "Whoa! Where'd you get that?" I asked ruffling his long curly blonde locks. He looked up at me. "Dad bought it for me," he said. I smiled and looked at James, "Really? That was nice of you James." James grinned and shrugged. "There's nothing I won't do for my boy," he said admiring Dominique. "Ok little man say good bye to Francesca and your dad. We gotta head home now," I said. Dominique waved sadly and muttered a sad goodbye. I was praying to God he'd wouldn't cry. However God had other plans. Dominique slowly turned and faced me, he clutched his hands on to my jeans, and shook me, "Why can't dad come back home to us!" he yelled. "I don't like him being with some other lady! Why!" Noooo! I mentally face palmed myself. This is so embarrassing. You can always count on kids to do the unthinkable. Francesca looked horrified and James' mouth was gaped open. My face was incredulous. I was at a loss for words. I wanted to apologize but I was way too embarrassed to speak. So I smiled awkwardly and chuckled, "Haha, kids and their crazy ways." James looked like he wanted to say something but nothing came out. I knew it was way past time for us to leave. I ushered a hysterical Dominique out the door. "Come on, let's get the hell outta here..." I muttered. Edited by MetalliRex, June 20, 2012, 11:53 am.

I hope you guys are still interested, sorry for not updating in a while. When Dominique and I got home that night, I decided that I really needed to talk with him about his dad and I being separated. I felt bad knowing that my son heavily disliked his father's new girlfriend and I surely hated the fact that he now had to live in two separate houses because his parents are no longer together. I decided to change into my night clothes and cook dinner since that was pretty much my only option. I made up my mind that I'll talk to Dominique while we ate instead. I flipped on the television and opened the back door to let Goliath inside the house-- poor guy has been out there pretty much all day long thanks to me. I strode into the kitchen and began to take out things to fix spaghetti since I knew it was Dominique's favorite thing to eat. Half way through cooking the meatballs and preparing the noodles, I heard my cell phone ringing and I jogged to go get it. Erica's name appeared on the caller ID and I groaned silently before picking up, "Hello?" I said. Erica appeared frantic on the other side of the line, "OH MY GOD! TURN ON MTV RIGHT NOW!" She screamed causing me to cringe inside. "Ok ok," I said. I ran into the living room and changed the channel to MTV. My eyes instantly went wide as I saw James and I's picture on the screen. I had no idea what they were talking about-- well gossiping about-- but I flew to the couch and snatched the remote to turn up the volume so I could hear what was going on. "What the fuck is this?" I whispered incredulously. "Aubrey they're talking about you and James splitting up," Erica said down the line. She wasn't kidding. As I zoned out, Erica's hysterical voice and all other sounds drained out into the background. They had almost every picture of us on the screen as possible with the words 'METALLICA FRONT MAN JAMES HETFIELD CALLS IT QUITS WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND OF EIGHT YEARS AUBREY LEVI' streaming across the screen. I sat paralyzed in amazement and anger as I watched my personal life run down the drain in a matter of seconds. I couldn't believe this shit-- what is going on and who the hell found out? I wondered if James found out or knew about this yet-- and if he hadn't found out already I knew it wasn't gonna be a pretty day in Metallica music history when word gets to him. "Well in other news today, Metallica's own James Hetfield and long time girlfriend, Aubrey Levi, split. The couple has officially ended their eight year relationship, reigning from 1989 all the way to 1996. Aubrey and James met back in early 1989 when the recording of Metallica's album began. Apparently James had broken up with his longtime girlfriend a few days ago. Aside from that short time of the couple being split, James has already been reportedly spotted with another woman not even a day after their break up. Sources say that the mysterious blonde woman that James has been spotted with is Metallica's own wardrobe stylist, Francesca Tomasi. The two have apparently been seeing each other since 1992 when Metallica began touring after the release of their hit debut album 'Metallica'. The media also spotted Aubrey out with James' best-friend and the lead guitarist of Metallica, Kirk Hammett, walking hand-in-hand the other night. James and Aubrey already have one child together, a boy named Dominique Alexander Ray Hetfield (Born February 3, 1992). No one knows if they are considering shared custody of their child or if only one parent gets rights over him, yet. There is no other information on their split, but we're sure there is more to come. For more information keep a look out on our TV station. I'm Jerry Lewis and you're watching MTV News." I sat on the couch gazing at the TV screen with a blank face. I was used to being in the tabloids and in the public eye, so this wasn't the slightest ounce of surprising, but this is just wrong. My business was put out there like there was no mercy. I kept trying to figure out how in the hell they found out. Who told them? I knew none of the guys said anything, but someone knew and I was surely gonna find out. I was determined to find out what the fuck was going on because something didn't seem right. As I continued to ponder and think of what to do, I heard Erica's muffled voice down the line and remembered that she was still on the phone. I grabbed my phone, "How did they find out?" She asked. "I have absolutely no idea..." I muttered. This was weird and I knew it was probably gonna effect, my life drastically. "Aubrey this is crazy! I can't believe they know," Erica said. I nodded and then realized that she wasn't able to see me, "Yeah. I wanna know that too," I said absentmindedly. I looked over and saw Dominique come walking downstairs wearing his Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pajamas. His hair was wet and curled up even more from him taking a bath. He came running over to the couch and plopped down by my side and looked at me with his innocent blues, "Who is that?" He asked pointing to the phone. Erica continued talking and I moved the phone from my ear and held my hand over the talking part and mouthed, "Erica." Dominique nodded and asked to speak with her but of course I said no. I changed the channel to cartoons and he watched attentively. Erica and I continued to discuss what was going on and then I remembered that I had food cooking on the stove. I said my goodbyes to her and hung up my phone. I ran into the kitchen and got everything under control thanking god that nothing burned. I got out plates and prepared the table for us to eat. "Dominique come on and eat while the food is still hot!" I shouted. He strolled in and sat at the table and I sat down too. The two of us eat in almost complete silence-- not saying a single word. I already knew the underlying reason why I was quiet, but it bothered me that my son wasn't saying anything at all. Speaking of which he hadn't said anything to me since he left his dad's place. He looked rather disappointed and every now and then he'd glance over at the empty chair where James would usually be seated. I stopped eating and wiped my mouth, "Dominique, are you ok? Is there anything you want to talk to me about?" I asked cautiously. He slumped on his seat and his fork made a loud clinging noise as he dropped it on his plate. He leaned back in the chair and huffed-- I for sure knew something was bothering him endlessly. "I miss my dad," He said. I sighed and my eyes grew an inch, "I know-- me too," I confessed. I actually missed James just being around. I tried so hard to convince myself that I didn't care, but of course I do care. I love James and I have always loved him. "You know, your dad told me about how rude you were to Francesca... You don't like her?" I asked. Dominique leaned his elbows on the table and laid his head on his hand and gave me dull look, "Not really." He said. "Well then why not? She seems nice..." I retorted. Hell, he'd have to learn to like her one day. Who's to say that his dad would get marri-- never mind. Dominique picked up his fork and picked at his food, "She's not my mom..." He looked up at me, "You're my mom." I groaned at his stubbornness. He was definitely his father's child. They acted so much alike that their resemblance in character was uncanny. I gave him a sympathetic look and prepare to give him a speech, "I know that you don't like her. I know she's not your mom, and I know that she pretty much stole your dad from us, but you have to learn that everything happens for a reason. Well I know that really didn't happen for a reason, but I don;t wanna point any fingers at anyone but it's your dad's fault. He decided to leave and not once did he seem to consider the consequences. Not only did he let you down, but he let me down too. As far as I knew, we were going great..." I sighed, "Look I want you to be nice to Francesca and accept her as your father's girlfriend. However if she disrespects you, I want you to tell me right away. Give her a chance... I know I have to and I realized she's not as bad as we think..." Even though I feel kinda fishy about her already. "I dunno mom..." He huffed and looked at me with pleading eyes. "Trust me," I said. Dominique nodded and we continued to eat in silence. He kept looking back and forth at James' empty seat. I swear he acted as if James had died or something. We finished eating and I followed him into his room to tuck him in. Tomorrow it would be his first day back to school after his long break and honestly I was kinda happy to have him out of the house for his own good. At least his buddies could help him get his mind off of his father and I being apart. The only I dreaded was heading back to work. I knew my colleagues were gonna hoard me like a dog tomorrow. they already knew about me dating someone famous and then there were the damn paparazzi, who I'm sure would be hot on my tail tomorrow. Did I mention that I absolutely hated Mondays? The next morning I got up bright and early at a staggering six a.m. ready to take on whatever challenge the world had for me. I showered and got dressed in my regular scrubs. I tossed my hair in a messy bun and slid on my tennis shoes. Before I headed off down stairs, I passed by Dominique's room to see him getting dressed in his uniform. He was lacing his tennis shoes when I approached him, "Do you want me to do your hair?" I asked. Dominique shook his head, "Nope." I nodded, "Ok." When he finished we both walked into the kitchen together and I went to the mailbox to get the mail as he sat at the table and ate cereal. I glanced at the clock and noticed that it was seven o'clock already and motioned for Dominique to hurry so we could leave. I locked up the house and we got in the car and made our way to his school. Dominique attended a private school because I always wanted him to get a seeming better education-- his school was called 'Crimson Academy'. When we pulled around to his school there were paps everywhere. I groaned frustratingly, "Fuck!" I breathed. Dominique looked at me and glanced back outside, "Mom, who are all of these people taking pictures of us?" he asked. I sighed, "Paparazzi..." I got out the car and ran to his side to let him out. I tried to shield his face the best I could as we walked. "Aubrey! Why did you and James split? Did he cheat on you? Can you tell me how long you and Kirk Hammett were seeing each other before James found out? Are you angry at James? Are you taking custody over your child? Is that James' son? Does he know what's happening? Is Francesca your friend? How long have you and Francesca known each other?" I was completely bombarded with questions about the craziest shit and I was about to flip out. I had done what I knew best and decided to just ignore it all. I ushered Dominique into his school and kissed him goodbye. I ran full speed to my car and drove as fast as I could through the mass of paparazzi that accumulated around me. As soon as I got to work one of my friends, Mandy, met me in the lobby. Mandy had black hair and striking green eyes, I had met her the first day I got accepted to start working at the hospital. We attended training together and grew a strong friendship in that short amount of time. I remember the first time I told her that I was James' girlfriend she didn't believe me until he came by to pick me up. She was very fond of Metallica since her boyfriend was a big fan. However they broke up a month ago and well just like me, she was single. "Oh my god Aubrey, can you believe this? You and James are all over the tabloids!" She exclaimed as she approached me. We both walked up to the elevators, "I know. This is crazy..." I sighed and turned to her, "Can you believe that they followed me when I took Dominique to school?" She gasped, "You're kidding?" She shook her head, "That's insane. He's only a kid and I'm sure his head is a mess right now..." I nodded, "It is." We both stepped inside the elevator and she pushed for the fourth floor where we worked in the pediatrics department. "James may have wanted to think this over before he decided to leave... Did he not think what would happen?" She raised her brows. I shook my head, "I guess not. It's all over MTV-- They're acting as if the biggest couple in music history split." It was true, the media took it into their own hands to make everything a lot more worse than it seemed. "Does James know?" She asked. I shook my head unsure. She sighed and said, "Well when he finds out he's gonna be hotter than a firecracker..." I agreed. Mandy and I had at most fifteen minutes to spare before our shift began so we walked to the break room to talk a bit more and to pass time. She sat down in front of me and asked, "Ok on a scale from one to ten with ten being the prettiest and one being ugly, what is she?" She asked referring to Francesca. I sighed, "Oh man, to be honest, dude she's like a three..." Mandy's eyes went wide, "Whoa! Really? Is she like that ugly?" She asked lowering her head. I shrugged, "I don't wanna be a bitch and talk about her looks and be negative, cause everyone's beautiful in their own way, but like if it came down to looks-- well let's just say, I'm not gonna be like 'Oh my god she's gorgeous' when in reality, she's pretty ugly. To me she's cute but not anything 'spectacular' she just looks like a normal average girl," I said. "I guess," She shrugged, "Well do you have a picture of her?" She asked,. "Yeah actually I do," I reached inside my purse and got out a picture that we had taken a while ago when I was pregnant with Dominique. It was a picture of her, James, and I while they were touring, "Here." Mandy furrowed her brows and looked at me modestly, "You've gotta be kidding me... Aubrey she's like a down grade. I'm trying to be sensible here but come on man, what the hell does she have that you don't? There's gotta be something, I mean at least if he's gonna cheat make it worth while--" I sighed, "Mandy..." "Look at her she's so plain and not EVEN that cute at all, honey James is insane--" She said. I tilted my head to the side, "But Mandy..." "Aubrey, she doesn't seem like his type." I shrugged, "Maybe she does like him, and he likes her personality, looks aren't everything you know." Mandy looked at me baffled, "And James likes her?" I shrugged, "Hell I guess so, he likes regular down to earth girls. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder." "Well if he likes 'regular down to earth girls' than he got the most regular one there is! He left you for that?" He said. I rolled my eyes, "If you haven't noticed, James isn't really considered to be that 'attractive' according to most people's standards and he likes her a lot, so I guess that's all that matters," I said. Time passed and Mandy and I started to get work done. I had three patients to tend to. they were all children, of course, and they were as cute as they could be. One little girl suffered from terrible asthma problems, but seemed to shine brightly despite her condition. Another kid named, Josiah, was also adorable and I had to check on his leg-- three weeks ago he was in a terrible car accident and his leg was broken. I enjoyed my job a lot even though I had to see so many children in such agonizing pain, it felt good to know that I could help make their lives better one day at a time. I was just about done with my last patient and glanced at the clock, it was three thirty. Lewis, one of my colleagues, told me that I had a visitor. As soon as I walked into his office, a pair of blues eye met my brown ones. James flashed me a slight smile and nodded over signaling that we needed to talk. We both walked over to the waiting room and stood by the large windows. "We need to talk," He started. "That shit pissed me off. I don't know who the fuck told them anything, but they fucking found out and I'm pissed beyond belief," I could hear the tone in his voice-- James was livid. I nodded, "I know and I agree. When did you find out?" I asked. "Lars called me at two thirty in the morning and told me to turn on MTV," I snorted and he looked at me. "Erica told me the same thing, but earlier..." I said. James' face grew rigid, "I want to know what fucker told our business! What I happen to do in my personal life is my business! No one needs to fuckin' know!" He said through gritted teeth. I sighed and said, "You know they followed me from the time I dropped Dominique off at school until I got to work..." He whipped his head around and looked in my eyes. "Are you fucking kidding me? I swear I'll kill those fuckers if they mess with you or my son," he said. "James this is crazy..." I whispered looking out the window. James turned to me and enveloped me into a tight hug that I could not escape. "I know..." he whispered. "Are you on a break?" he asked pulling away from me and gazing into my eyes. I nodded. James smiled and said, "Can we go out then? You know just to talk?" He offered. I shook my head and shrugged, "I don't know about that James..." "Come on, just this once and that's it," James looked at me with pleading eyes. I couldn't refuse to say no, but deep down inside my head there was a little voice that kept egging me on. Just this once? Maybe? I sighed heavily. This wasn't gonna be easy, but I guess just this once. I rolled my eyes and looked off in in another direction, purposely avoiding his gaze, "Alright... I'll go..." "Ok," James said some what happily to my dismay. My gaze was some where else, and I noticed that he insisted for me to look into his blue core. James grabbed my chin with his hand and turned my face to him. Our eyes met yet again and the warmness of his hand left my face feeling hot, "Thanks," He whispered solemnly. I huffed and shrugged. Anything to make him happy, right? "When do you want to go?" I asked. James raised his brows and shrugged, looking exactly like Dominique. I smiled on the inside re-accounting how uncanny their resemblance was and how they easily reminded me of each other. James scratched the back of his head, "How about now?" He asked stating the obvious. I nodded, "Now is fine, but I have to pick Dominique up at four thirty from school," I looked at him with my eyebrows raised, "Is that fine?" I asked. I silently was cheering on the inside because picking up Dominique would spare me a large amount of time from spending with James and honestly I hadn't planned on being in his presence for long. James eyes went large, "You're kidding?" He asked desperately. I nodded, "Well, you said four..." "Yeah, but at least an hour together would be nice," He said. "Well..." I shrugged, "I don't know what to tell you... unless, you know..." I nodded over and smiled, "You wanna try another time, that'll be fine." James gave me a shallow look, "No we need to talk now." I almost immediately sat up alert, "Is that what this is all about? Us needing to talk?" I asked defensively. It's been nearly a week and he just now decided to talk about everything that he had done lately? For some reason this really managed to piss me off greatly. "Yes now," He said. I shook my head, "Well then it's nice to know that you want to at least be in my presence, but what are we going to do about the paps?" I asked. If they spotted us together, they'll publish another story and mistaken us for getting back together and I already had a feeling that James had came and visited me on a whim. James shrugged, "I don't give a fuck if they see us together--" I stopped him, "What about Fran? Does she know you're here?" I asked. James shook his head, "No, she doesn't know..." I nodded, "Well..." James absent-mindedly took my hand in his and intertwined our fingers together. He kept fiddling around with my hand and fingers and playing with them like a child. All a while I glanced at my hand and back towards the window. "Your hands are soft," James said to me. I transferred my gaze from the window and back to James, this time our eyes met. We stared at each other for what seemed like an eternity. I was so transfixed on his gorgeous blue eyes, that I didn't notice that he had moved my hand up to his mouth and lightly kissed my fingers. A small smile crept upon his face. "I still love you Aubrey..." He said. My heart rate sped up even more. Oh no! |
