Hey everyone! It’s been way long since we had the last fic challenge, unfortunately. I personally was planning on organizing another one a long time ago, but sadly, life got in the way. But here I am and I’m armed with a giant challenge that has twelve parts. You may have noticed the title of the thread and you may have gathered that this challenge is about Christmas. That’s because for the past few months I’ve been eagerly waiting for winter to arrive, and I’ve hoped that it would arrive soon like it did last year and the year before that, but no.  All we get here is rain and way too a high temperatures considering it’s November. So, I thought to myself, what would be nicer than to combine two things from my list of favorite things. Metallica and Christmas it is.So, I have twelve prompts, all Christmas-related, and your job is to pick one (or two, or three, or… twelve! :)) and write a short fic. Most prompts have an example phrase to help you out if you get stuck. You can write your fic around the actual prompt (in bold) or the phrase. Obviously, the fic should be Metallica-related, in addition to being Christmas-related. There’s no word limit, minimum or maximum, but it would be best to keep the fics short, maybe 500 words tops. If you want to go above that, feel free. As I said, this challenge has twelve parts. The way this works is that each of the twelve prompts has its own deadlines and posting dates. For prompt #1, we want all the fics in by November 30th and we’ll post them on the forum on December 2nd. For prompt #2, the dates are December 2nd (deadline) and December 4th (posting date). And the list goes on so that the last prompt’s deadline will be December 22nd and we’ll post the fics up on Christmas Eve, ie December 24th. And the prompts: 1. Let it snow / Lars watched the snow from the window of Connie's New York apartment. "I wish it would snow in San Francisco,"' he said. 2. Santa’s little helper / Castor's ears were as pink as Santa’s little helper's. 3. Christmas lights / He had decided to surprise the rest of the band by decorating HQ with Christmas lights. 4. Bah! Humbug! / Bah! Humbug! Bob Rock hated these Metallica Christmas party invitees. Every fucking year, and the parties were always so lame. 5. Mistletoe / Lars stood on a chair, and taped a sprig of plastic mistletoe to the studio door. That way, he had an excuse to kiss him. 6. Caroling / Kirk hated caroling, even in disguise. 7. I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus 8. Eggnog and chestnuts / Rob tasted the eggnog he was making; he didn't want to poison his friend. At least there was nothing bad he could do to the chestnuts. 9. I’ll be home for Christmas / “I’ll be home for Christmas, darling, I promise.” Kirk wiped his eyes as he spoke to his wife. 10. Wrapping gifts / James eyed his large square present he had just wrapped in bright green foil, wondering what his dear friend's response would be. That was the best part, watching their reaction. 11. Christmas tree / The Christmas tree at Madison Square Park was the largest he had ever seen. 12. Santa / James laughed at himself as he put on the Santa suit. Send the finished fics to metchicks.fanfics@gmail.com. Add your Metallichicks username to your e-mail. You may send in two fics per prompt, that’s twenty-four fics in total. When emailing the fics, please use the prompt as the title of your fic. That way if you send, for example, four different fics in at the same time, we’ll know which is which. One-shots only. Original stories only. (I.e., don't use anyone else's stories as your own, obviously, and don't use your previous writing/story in the challenge) Good luck!! I hope to read a lot of fics! Awesome idea Minna! I hope everyone likes my met-related prompts! I'll be sure to write the scenes I was envisaging when I thought of each one! :-) Can't wait to read all the fics! |

You can send your fics in whenever as long as you send them in before their respective deadlines. Just make sure it's clear to us which prompt your fic is about. So, you don't have to wait for the deadline to get as close as possible. If you're finished writing prompt #8 tomorrow and want to send your fic in, go ahead and do so. It just won't be posted until the "official" deadline has passed.  (And if you want to make last minute changes to your story and have already sent it in - sorry, too late. :))

I'm writing one of the prompts and it's gone long...it's 1500 words at the moment, though it is nearly finished. Is that too long? Should I try and cut it down some? |

There's no word limit--we're just encouraging one-shots around 500 words, that's all. It's up to you if you want to edit it down or not.

Aha, awesome, thanks for telling me that I think I will keep it at the length it is now cos it would be hard to edit it without taking out important parts but I will see that it doesn't get too much longer, lol

Still some time left before the first deadline! I'm hoping to get some more entries in for the first one (and the rest! :D), so, I'll be accepting entries for prompt #1 until 5PM (EET) on Nov 30th. Alright. Two entries in for the first prompt. Thanks to those of you who entered. The entries will be posted tomorrow! The second prompt's (Santa's Little Helper) deadline is already tomorrow, but thus far I have gotten no entries for it, so, looks like there won't be much to post on the 4th. Please, enter!
