The following day was James’ day off. He lay in bed at 7am watching me as I dressed in front of him. I needed to get home to my son and see Ray before he left for work. I knew he wanted to know what had happened between James and Francesca, and now it was morning my mind felt a little hazed with guilt. But still, James was utterly irresistible to me. He’d woken me early at 6am and rolled onto me for a morning welcome, pushing his hard penis into my warm thigh. I adored his muscular body on top of me, and my legs opened amicably for him. He smiled and puffed in heavy, short breaths as I moaned along to his eager morning rhythm. I was dressed and ready to leave, and I leant over his body in bed for a goodbye kiss. His hand reached naughtily to my inner thigh. ‘If you stay, I’ll make you come all morning’ he promised in a teasing voice. I made a short approving moan. He tugged me onto the bed with him and I straddled his body that was hidden under the covers. ‘What time does Ray go to work?’ he begged, kissing me desperately. ‘About 11am’, I said, turning my cheek and trying to avoid receiving his convincing kisses. ‘So I’ll come round at midday?’ he grinned with a naughty twinkle in his eye. I sighed, I couldn’t resist seeing him again. I paused to appear to think, but really, I already knew the answer. ‘Alright!’ I grinned, kissing him back happily. ‘I’m leaving now!’ I laughed, and his disbelieving eyes followed me to the door with a loving gaze as I waved him a gentle goodbye. ……. I arrived home to find Ray holding our son, chatting happily as they ate breakfast together. ‘Hannah!’ my husband kissed me warmly, and offered me my son to hold. I kissed my son’s forehead, I had missed him yesterday. ‘Did he sleep alright?’ I asked Ray. He nodded while he ate his cereal. ‘So tell me what James said?’ he asked in between mouthfuls. My mind rewound through my night in James’ bed to recall our conversation from the day before. ‘He said she left him by surprise one day after an argument over nothing. She didn’t tell him she was taking the kids, and he thought she was just going to her mom’s place in Denver’. Ray nodded as I recalled James’ story. ‘He said he came home and the kids were gone and so was all of their stuff!’ Ray’s mouth paused in amazement just as mine had done. ‘He said eventually that they talked about why, and she said she was tired of him and fed up with their life together. So without telling him, she took the kids to Argentina. They live in Buenos Aires now, and the kids go to a nice private school down there’. I recalled the rest of the story as James as told it. Ray’s face turned to stunned amazement as he listened. ‘What about what Lars said, that there was someone else?’ he remembered. ‘James said once when he visited them, there was another man there with her and the kids, but that he’d just seen him there the once’ I recalled. Ray frowned and I wondered if he knew who he had been. ‘They have a nice place down there’ he began. ‘James bought a townhouse in the city back in 99’. They used to holiday there a lot, I’d go with them every year. The kids loved it the place, it’s really close to the beach’ Ray remembered. ‘I’m assuming she filed for divorce a while ago then?’ Ray guessed, filling in the story. I shook my head. ‘No, apparently not’ I revealed and his eyes widened. ‘Why wouldn’t she, if she’s done with him?’ Ray wondered outloud. I shrugged my shoulders. His guess was as good as mine. ‘James would always give her any money and property she wanted if they divorced’ Ray continued. ‘I’ve heard them discussing it before’ he explained sadly. We came to an awkward halt in the conversation where neither of us could think of anything else to say. ‘I think I might work late tonight, Hannah’ Ray said slowly. It was a Monday and he usually had an early night. His voice was slow and calculating, I wondered what he had in mind. ‘Okay, that’s no problem’ I said. I was thinking of the afternoon James and I would be having today on his day off. Ray at work all day was the perfect diversion. Ray excused himself and headed upstairs for a shower. I loved that each day when he left for work he was dressed in his white Chef’s jacket. It always made him look so smart and professional. But today, I noticed he left in jeans, a black hoodie and a backpack. My eyes queried him as he departed. ‘Going to the gym first’ he explained badly. I accepted his response, and later wondered if he was in fact heading to the Dorchester himself to see Barbara. I still wasn’t certain how friendly they had been in the past. I nursed my son until 11:40, when I lay him down for his midday nap. I knew James would be arriving soon, and still, I hadn’t showered or changed. At 12:10, a short knock on the door interrupted me pulling on my jeans. My hair was still wet and wrapped in a towel like a turban on my head. I loosened my hair dry as I descended the stairs to answer the front door. James smiled wickedly as I opened the door. He entered in with a deep sideways step and clicked the door shut behind him. ‘Ready?’ he kissed, greeting me warmly. ‘You smell so fresh and beautiful’ he breathed, his horny mouth devoured me in welcome. I lead him upstairs, his large warm hands holding both of mine. In my bedroom, his hands smoothed my butt as he drew me into his arms. He saw my son asleep in his cot next to the bed. ‘We won’t wake him here?’ he checked in a whisper. I shook my head. ‘He should be fine, he sleeps well during the day’ I whispered. James’ mouth dropped silently to my chest, his hands working together unzipping my jeans. He lifted my body onto the bed as he stood over me. ‘Just try not to scream!’ he teased me with a sexy wink. His searching tongue and lips tasted my skin along my navel down to my groin. He lifted his face to offer me a horny smile, before his tongue opened me up with a strong rush of nervous delight. |

At 10pm I called Ray. It was the time he would usually be home if he was working late like he said. His cell phone was off, and I thought it strange. He always left it on in case I needed to call him. I tried calling the restaurant’s number instead. The maître d’ answered. ‘Hello Hannah--No, Ray hasn’t been here today’ he explained. My mind whirred into an annoyed rage. I bet that he was at the Dorchester, perhaps in bed with Barbara, perhaps he’d just snuck off to a bar with her…Either way I was fuming. James had left my place returning to their hotel just an hour earlier. I decided to check with him if Ray had turned up there. Is Ray there? I asked him by text. After ten minutes of silence he replied. Nope, why? he asked. He didn’t go to work today and he hasn’t come home, I replied. James called me almost immediately. ‘What do you mean?’ he asked in a slight panic. ‘I don’t know where he is, James!’ I exclaimed. I was worried now. James’ thoughts were a step ahead of mine. ‘Where does he keep his passport?’ he asked me calmly. I knew exactly where. I ran down the stairs to the study, it was a small room underneath the stairs, and I flicked on the light. The top drawer where I knew both our travel documents lived was open and disturbed. I rustled through the papers with James still on the phone. It took me only a few seconds to realise that my burgundy passport was the only one in the drawer. His dark navy blue American one was gone. ‘It’s gone, his passport is gone!’ I squealed. My mind was steadily putting the facts together. James swore down the phone. I thought in terror of something else my husband might have known and ran upstairs to my own wardrobe. I dropped to my knees, pulling my shoes out of the way to reach a brown and gold Louis Vuitton shoe box that hid in the back of my wardrobe. It was my secret hiding place for cash I had not yet banked. I knew it was where I had hidden the $15,000 US James had paid me three nights ago. I opened the lid in a rush, and inside, my worst fears were confirmed. The box was empty and the cash was gone. He had left only the golden envelope with James’ blocked handwriting. He had discovered my secret. ‘Fuck! The bastard!’ I swore down the line. James was concerned. ‘What? Hannah, what’s wrong?!’ ‘He’s taken the cash you paid me, he knows I’ve been seeing you and he didn’t say anything!’ I yelled. James was quiet. ‘I bet I know where he is’ he growled darkly. ‘Where?!’ I yelled. I was still unable to think. ‘Argentina’ James replied simply. |

Yes, I think he figured that she wasn't being honest with him. He's acting a bit out of character by taking off without telling her or James, but I think he's worried he'll need a head-start. Also, he's a very loyal person as we know, and he's very close with Francesca and the kids, so naturally, he wants to see them. He also knows more about Francesca than he has let on so far... |

Hello!! Thanks! I'm so glad that you like my story! You should read the two that came before it so it makes more sense! Both are in finished fictions. (Call Me Francesca is the first part, and A French Connection is the second part). We will find out about the man Francesca is (apparently) seeing very soon!

16 hours after leaving Heathrow, Ray woke as the plane descended over the Atlantic ocean to Buenos Aires. It had been six years since he had visited. He though 2008 was the last summer he had spent with the Hetfield’s at their holiday home in Argentina. He missed his end of year southern hemisphere summer holidays. In 1999, James had bought and converted an old Spanish villa in the city, a townhouse three floors high, that was settled on a quiet street in the northern beaches of the city. Inside a private community, the streets were clean and safe. Tidy houses with Mercedes and large SUV’s lined the streets out front, and doormen stood in the foyers of the larger houses. Ray requested the cabs stop outside the house he recognised. It was tall and painted a cream and pink façade with terracotta eaves and a bronze railing on the balconies. The exterior of the house was well kept and looked upmarket. The garden below was lush and green despite the dry air. Ray tried a little Spanish, the best he could: ‘Pare aquí seńor, Calle Augustin numero 14 por favor. Sí, muchas gracias’. The driver stopped and Ray handed over US dollars. ‘Gracias!’ the driver was pleasantly surprised. Ray stepped out of the cab and took a careful look at the house. It was nearly exactly as he remembered it, although the trees in the front yard were much larger now, and the red clay path was somehow darker. Less light seemed to come from the house than usual. The Hetfield’s house was one of the largest in the street set behind heavy wraught iron gates. James had wanted the utmost privacy for his family on holiday when they first bought here. Ray buzzed the intercom with a nervous hand. ‘Francesca?’ his voice wobbled. He was still exhausted from the long flight and very nervous of her reaction, especially turning up unannounced. ‘It’s Ray—I’m here to see you and the kids!’ his finger released the button with a scratch hoping she had heard him. He didn’t even know that she was home. He stood helplessly at the gate wondering whether he should call back the cab and go to the nearest hotel. The harsh midday sun hurt his eyes, it felt as though it should be the middle of the night to him. There was no movement behind the glass door for another minute, and he was starting to give up hope that anyone might be home. Finally, a tall figure walked towards the front door and paused behind it. Ray could not make out through the gates who it was. The gate swung open—the person inside had allowed him access—and he entered, walking up the mosaicked front steps and turning the large black door-handle of the heavy front door. Inside, Francesca’s shocked face greeted him. Her face was more fearful than pleased. ‘Ray! What on earth!’ she looked around behind him to see if he had anyone else with him. ‘James didn’t send you, did he?’ she asked nervously. Ray shook his head peacefully. He tried to warm her concern with a smile. ‘No! Of course not, I came because I wanted to see you!’ Ray realised he should’ve called. He realised just how desperate he must look to her right now. Francesca saw that he had arrived with only a backpack. She invited him in, shutting door behind him with a look of worry on her face. ‘Did you just get off the plane?’ she asked carefully as she led him into the lounge. The sunlight shone in strongly through the large windows on side of the house. The lounge was colourful, the walls were a pale yellow, the wooden floors were polished a shiny brown, and the couches featured large red patterned cushions. It was completely different to their modern house in San Rafael. This house was more colonial, a converted villa with a clean open space. He saw she had been reading. Her book and a blanket were laid out on the couch. His eyes took in the familiar house. She was dressed in jean shorts and a plain white singlet, and both her wrists were adorned with gold bangles and bracelets. Ray looked for her wedding ring on her left hand, and saw too that it was gone. Her long blonde hair was loose and messy and she flicked it behind her shoulders as he sat. ‘Yes, I came from London’ he explained sitting opposite her. Francesca returned to her chaise and curled up her feet once more. There was a look of confusion written on her face. Without questioning him, she simply waited for Ray’s explanation. ‘I moved to London when I left San Francisco’ he began filling her in on his whereabouts for the past two years. ‘And I opened a restaurant in London, my own place, and I got married and had a son!’ he said, all in one breath. Francesca’s face warmed immediately to the news. ‘You have a baby?’ she exclaimed warmly. Ray nodded proudly. ‘What’s his name?’ she asked kindly as Ray handed over his phone to show her photos. Ray paused, embarrassed. ‘His name is James!’ he grinned. Francesca’s face turned back into an odd frown at the news. ‘Really? Oh dear!’ she laughed awkwardly. ‘But he is gorgeous!’ she smiled handing Ray back his phone. ‘About five months?’ she guessed from the photo. ‘Yes, five months exactly’ Ray nodded. They smiled warmly at each other for a moment without speaking. He had missed her, she was one of his oldest friends. ‘So your restaurant is going well?’ she smiled, she knew it was his dream, and one of the reasons why he left them. ‘Yes I have two Michelin stars!’ he beamed, proud of his achievements. ‘That’s fantastic! Where in London are you? I will have to come and visit!’ ‘It’s in Chelsea’ Ray smiled. He looked around the lounge as he spoke, the bookshelves and table tops were full of photos of the children: Marcella had become a beautiful elegant young lady. Cali was bold and scruffy like James, and Castor, had become tall and lanky like his mother. ‘How are the kids?’ he asked, still avoiding the reason why he was here. ‘They’re growing up fast, Ray’ she said matter of factly. It seemed that being a solo mother was not quite the gig she was hoping for. It seemed she wanted to keep the children a topic for another conversation. ‘Ray, please tell me why you’re here?’ she asked patiently. She wasn’t mad, just confused about his motives. ‘James visited me this week for the first time in two years, since I left’ Ray explained. Francesca nodded, listening carefully. ‘And, well, I guessed something was wrong, and Lars and Kirk told me that you had split up, in the end’ he explained. Francesca scowled setting her book aside. It was clear Metallica was not her favourite topic of conversation. She rubbed her forehead painfully trying to get his story straight. ‘So James did put you up to this!’ she surmised. ‘No, no he didn’t. He doesn’t even know I’m here!’ Ray explained. Her face fell soft again, pleased to leave that part of her life behind. ‘Ray, I came here to get away from all of that stuff—the band, my marriage that was making me miserable and exhausted. James never made it easy for me. I just couldn’t live like that anymore. I’m not sad to not have heard any of their names for more than a year. I can’t stand the thought that I might end up listening to James talk about Lars for another twenty years of my life!’ she exclaimed. Ray understood what she meant. ‘I’m sorry Francesca. I really hoped that you two would work things out. I loved working for you both, I’m just so sorry the family is separated now. Having my son has made me think about your three. I think of Marcella all the time’ Ray admitted. She paused on his thought with a kind smile. She remembered his face and his kind efforts for their family. ‘So does your wife know you’re here?’ she asked slyly. She was already sure that the answer was no. It was the last thing Ray wanted to discuss, she really didn’t need to be reminded who Hannah was. ‘I’m afraid not’ he admitted. ‘Like I said, I just wanted to visit you and the kids and see that you’re all okay’ he explained. Still, she wasn’t sure she was at the crux of his motive. ‘James is utterly heartbroken that you’ve left, Francesca’, Ray revealed honestly. She inhaled deeply; seemingly, she was not sorry that she had done what she had. ‘Ray, trust me, I had my reasons. And we tried, we really did. It wasn’t worth being miserable. The kids and I have lived here over a year now’ she said. ‘So you’re happy here with the kids, by yourself?’ Ray asked. He hoped she would bring it up on her own, that he wouldn’t have to ask her straight out if there was someone else. She clicked her finger at him knowingly, like a gun. ‘That’s why you’re here!’ she figured. She stood and walked to the kitchen, knowing she had to prepare herself to do battle with Ray on the subject of her marriage once again. She knew he must know that she had not been entirely alone in Argentina once more. Ray had always kept her secret of her infidelity, so perhaps she owed him an explanation, since he had so clearly flown all the way from London to see that they were okay. She knew that he cared about her and her family more than just about anyone else she knew. She lifted two large white cups from the shelf and stirred the milk. ‘Coffee?’ she asked him gently. |
