Ah, thank you for the update! It's a nice little break from writing a paper on a topic that I have no opinion on one way or another

Thanksgiving! The moment I've been waiting for!

I think Hannah, getting nervous and then deciding to change her outfit is so realistic and really makes her character more likeable and relate able from my perspective. I think it's such a typical woman thing to do. I know I'm guilty of having done it before!

This line made me laugh:

"Castor's twitched brighter than I imagined at the sight of me, I wondered if he remembered meeting me in France over two years ago"

More like he thinks his dad has a hot girlfriend!

And finally, bad move on James' part kissing her right away. I think he could have maybe eased into it. I mean they just meant her! If anything, being so forward about their relationship from the get go may build a tiny bit of resentment in his children's minds, especially considering how friendly an intimate he had been with Fran in their presence.

So looking forward to seeing how the rest of Thanksgiving plays out!

Finally caught up now!
So the call girl thing is really going to be problematic for all of them... The kids, Hannah, James... I really like that James is looking at Hannah's past with other eyes. But a little apologising and he thinks he's being sensitive enough to have sex!
I think Fran is really sorry about David and Ray and that she regrets calling James to bed... Loved that part!

Now let's see where it goes, I need to ready the other chapter, I know!
Yes--the call girl thing is going to get pretty problematic.

Fran does regret what she's done to piss off James. Clearly, neither tactic has worked so far in getting her husband back. Clearly she thought she had to step it up a bit!
The kids are confused, yes. I think it's not just because they're meeting their mom 'substitute' and her son, but part of it it's because James is living with Hannah and Ant in the old house, using the same old room and stuff. And Fran, despite of having an affair, hasn't moved on too yet.
They'll shock when they find out about the engage :ugh:

Really well written, as always. Need more from this holiday!!

Yes, Castor thinks she's hot!

Hannah thought perhaps the kids might relate to her better if she wasn't all dressed up. Their mother doesn't dress like that when she's at home, for sure. (We've all seen Fran's fashion disasters!)

As usual, you're absolutely right. James kissing Hannah and being happy and intimate with her in front of them will divide them a bit. It's nice for them to see him happy, but on the other hand, they will resent it, because that's not what their Mom is feeling.

More up shortly! :wavey

In my absence, James had organised them some real food for lunch. They were hungry after their long flight home. When I returned, James offered me a sandwich he had kindly made for me. They had almost finished eating.

‘Is he sleeping alright now?’ he asked.

‘Yeah, I had to breastfeed him first for a while’ I explained. Castor’s eyes turned to saucers in his head.

‘We thought we’d go for a drive up to the lookout’ James explained. ‘These guys haven’t been up there for ages’ I nodded. Now Anthony was asleep, it meant I would have to stay back here with him.

‘You guys should go’ I agreed.

‘Is that okay?’ James asked quietly. He was sorry not to include me. I knew he needed more time alone with his kids while they got used to the idea of me.

‘Of course’ I replied gently. I stroked his shoulder kindly, and Cali caught my eye. Her face was a little surprised and somewhat hurt, seeing that her Dad was enjoying the company of another woman. I knew he wanted to kiss me again, but the first kiss had been enough for his children to see for now.

James drove his three up the familiar private road to the highest peak on his land. He had once taken Hannah there to the lookout—it was an amazing site with views south across the Golden Gate Bridge back towards the city. His children loved in there, they had space to be free. They had always lived rurally, and now being in a townhouse in Buenos Aires had made them a little restless. At the summit, Marcella skipped through the long grass happily, collecting small yellow petals from a dispersed sunflower. Castor had brought his football with him and he threw the ball back and forth with his Dad. James spun the ball hard and Castor caught it skilfully before it hit his ribs.

‘Nice save!’ James grinned. Castor spun it back in a long overhead pass and James lept to catch it. He pulled a tough face.

‘Ooh! Think you can outsmart your Dad, huh?’ he called back. Castor laughed, unprepared for James’ fast return pass. It set him off his feet at he caught it. James laughed, clapping at Castor’s dropped pass.

‘You’re getting good, kid!’ he was impressed at his son’s skills.

Cali waited for her turn to talk to her father. She sat on the large tree stump James had fashioned as a seat at the summit. Even though there was no cell phone reception up here, still she checked her phone hopefully for messages from her Argentine boyfriend. James sat with her as Castor took his turn relaxing in the grass.

‘So how’s things with…Antonio?’ James guessed. She was holding her phone as though she were waiting for a message.

‘Yes’, she nodded. ‘He’s alright—he hasn’t text me since we arrived’ she explained sadly.

‘You can call him from the house when we get back if you like?’ James offered. Her face jumped happily in surprise.

‘Thanks Dad!’ she smiled. His suggestion had improved her mood tenfold. Marcella and Castor joined them sitting at the lookout.

‘So what do you guys think of Hannah?’ James asked carefully. Marcella spoke first.

‘Dad she’s nice! I like her!’ she smiled. Castor had nodded eagerly in agreement, but Cali had not. James grinned, he knew just what his son was thinking about Hannah.

‘Cali?’ he asked. She looked out to the bay; her eyes finding Alcatraz in the distance.

‘I don’t know her yet, Dad’ she explained defensively. ‘Anthony is cute’ she smiled, she knew that much.

‘I thought tomorrow we could all go over to Walnut Creek and see the Christmas lights?’ James offered. Marcella nodded eagerly. Castor and Cali were less interested, but still agreed politely. There was an awkward silence for a minute as Marcella asked a question that all been on all their minds.

‘Dad—can we come back here to live soon?’ she asked as they all surveyed the city below. Her question took him aback. He knew how much they wanted to be here still.

‘You should stay with your mom until you’ve finished school’ James replied. After that, you can do whatever you like, once you’re 18’ he explained. Cali grinned, she was the closest to being that age. Castor looked decidedly depressed at the thought.

‘What does Hannah do?’ Cali asked. Her mind had been ticking over while they talked.

‘At the moment she’s being a Mom to Anthony’ James explained. ‘But she has a degree in Business Economics, she’s a Financial Planner and a writer’ he explained proudly. Cali’s smile improved hearing that Hannah was educated.

‘I can tell you really love her Dad’ Marcella added. She smiled at her father, knowing he wanted to hear it. Cali stood uncomfortably with a sigh brushing the dry grass off her legs. She walked back towards the car, and James detected she was grumpy at her sister’s enthusiasm. James sighed as Cali climbed into the backseat of the car, turning on the car radio. He knew she was losing her short teenage patience, it was time to go home.

‘Maybe we can head back so you guys can have a rest and unpack?’ he suggested observing his daughter’s behaviour with worry.

Awesome!! I loved this little moment between them
Castor thinking Hannah is hot is very funny, because she's much younger than his dad :P
Cali is having a hard time accepting Hannah, but she doesn't want to hurt James' feelings. Marcella is sweet, she says exactly what James wants to hear, to show him she's happy when he's happy. I like her a lot

They'll get there, sooner or later! :D

Marcella's amping it up, telling him what he wants to hear, to try and stay his favourite child. She's the most insecure about Anthony. She's also known about him and Hannah the longest.

Cali is the oldest and therefore will probably be the hardest sell. She doesn't have to accept Hannah much, next year she will be 18, off too college, and not a kid anymore.

Castor is a 14 year old boy who's 100% hormones. Course he's gonna think Hannah's hot!

Cali's just thinking and feeling like things are all a bit weird. She's got enough going on in her own life these days, without trying to figure out whatever the heck her Dad is doing...

James knows exactly what Castor's thoughts are about Hannah!

I'm still rooting for Hannah!!! They deserve to be together!!! And I can't believe thy Fran would do that!!! :nanner:
Woooo! Another one for team Hannah! :nanner:

Fran didn't do it on purpose--she was just venting to David about James and his new girlfriend. She realised what she had done afterwards.
Haha yup team Hannah forever!!:) I do kind of do feel bad for Fran, but I'm still team Hannah:) I don't think Cali likes Hannah very much, but if my dad just suddenly left my mom for another woman I may hold a grudge too. :wink

Very cute family scene! I loved it, as always. It's the little things, like James being impressed with Castor's football skills that make me love this story.

I kind of get the feeling that Marcella may try and force herself to like Hannah for her father's sake. I dunno though. We'll see.

As for the other two, Castor is a young man with raging hormones. I don't think he cares one way or another, just so long as he can look at her. The line about his eyes going wide when she said something about breast feeding was so funny! lol. But Cali, almost being a young adult, I don't think she'll like Hannah. Especially once the truth comes out about their past. And the truth always comes out! I think it may ruin James' relationship with her; though I really hope not.

I think in my last post, you responded about how Hannah and Fran are different when it comes to fashion and how Fran has had a few fashion disasters. I literally laughed out loud, because its so true! The poor woman. Though, it kind of makes me love her even more because she's the wife (in your story ex-wife) of a huge rock star and is seen by thousands and she really just doesn't care. She's like whatever, I'm going to wear these tacky, ugly short that come up past my belly button and I don't really care what you think. They're comfy. I love her.
