All right! Does it not impair you to play? I mean, you must not be able to do everything with it, no?!

That's right. When I play clean riffs, I like to use a neck pickup. But I'm mostly playing distortion guitar and for that I only need the bridge pickup. @ Fiometal: Which model number do you want for the Jackson? JS, KVX or even more expensive one? |

Try to get the KVX level of models. I used to have a JS30KV and it was a guitar for beginners. The pickups are really mediocre. A friend of mine had the KVX model and it was more professional, with real sharkfin inlays aswell. |

You're welcome! Of course it all comes down to personal preferance, but the KVX really is better than the JS series. Just try some and only go for it when you really feel good about it. |

Well that's because I have personal experience with both guitars you mentioned here. I do not want to be this kinda person that tells you what you should do. In the years I've been on the internet I've often let myself trick into bullshit talk about guitars and 'what I should get'. After a lot of money spent on all kinds of guitars and parts and electronics I've now built up my own experience with this kinda stuff and learned a lot about it through experience...not from reading opinions on the internet. I would feel sad if you'd fell victim to bullshit talks about guitars and then buy something because they said you should get it, and then find out that it's not what you were looking for. But yeah, I do know a fair share about electric guitars because I'm a guitar builder and I can help you a bit in the right direction if you are looking for a certain sound or feel in a guitar, or if you have a problem with it. But I'm not a know-it-all and like art, it also for a very big part, comes down to personal taste. |

(My english sucks, but I'll do my best )Yeah, I know what you mean, there's a lot of 'information' on the internet about guitars and effects, but it's not the same that try every thing by yourself, experiment by yourself and if it's the case make mistakes too. I learned by mistakes (about my amp), for my birthday my dad wanted to give me a surprise, so he gave me a guitar and an amp,he bought a cheap one because he hadn't too much money, the sound that I got, was the exact sound that Jimmy Page has on the dvd 'The Song Remains The Same', but I didn't want that sound, I wanted some more heavy (because I play in a thrash metal band) so I was a little bit disappointed. Obviously the pickups has to be with the sound too, but I'm really sure that was the amp, beacuse with the Peavy that I have now, the sound is more heavy, more thrash you know. But I still wanna a REAL guitar, that meets my expectations. It's so awesome that you're a guitar builder! That's so interesting! I wish could do the same ( or be a restorative of old cars) that's a good way to enjoy a job! Thank you so much Max, for everything, I really appreciate it.

No problem! I will be around if you need me. Oh, and the building is not my job (that would be cool), I do it as a hobby and have only made 7 so far. |

Alright then! As requested, the full list of MVH Guitars to date.. #1 ![]() Telecaster Year: 2006 Status: Dismantled and parts sold separately Made for my brother. Started out as a regular Telecaster, but was later converted to a Bigsby trem with a Duncan humbucker. Body was all me and made of mahogany, the neck was pre-fab. The guitar was heavy as fuck and the sound was not so good. It also played really stiff. Weird, because the construction was fine. Oh, the mystery of guitars... #2 ![]() Mini-Explorer Year: 2006 Status: Dismantled The first guitar I built a neck for completely on my own and my first attempt at finishing the guitar with spray cans. I hated the finishing. It took me 2 weeks and it was still far from perfect. It did sound pretty good and played very nicely. It was lacking some serious low-end because the body was just some plywood. #3 ![]() Bass guitar Year: 2007 Status: Still own it I used to have a cheap bass guitar and I wanted to touch it up by sanding off all the finish and getting new frets and electronics and apply an oil finish. The original body fell off the hook while the oil finish was drying and it split in half, so I made a new one, of better wood. The neck is still original. I use this bass to record my own songs, as it's the only bass in the house here. #4 ![]() Explorer Year: 2008 Status: Sold to the guitarist of metalband 'The New Dominion'. I bought the body on ebay and it came from the USA. I really wanted this body because it has the shape of James' guitars, which is slightly different from a Gibson. The neck is all my own work and it is thin like Jackson type necks. The headstock veneer is Rio Rosewood, which is very rare. With Duncan pickups. Later I stained the guitar in a dark brown (walnut) colour. On this pic you see it still in the original colour of the Alder wood after applying oil finish. #5 ![]() Backpacker guitar Year: 2008 Status: Still own it This was the first guitar I had to make when I was doing the guitar building course in Belgium. An acoustic guitar with steel strings. It's fun to look at, but it's difficult to play because all the weight is at the top. The tuners are the heaviest part of the guitar. #6 ![]() Les Paul Junior Year: 2009 Status: Still own it The 2nd guitar I made at the guitar building atelier. Made of all mahogany and I tried to keep as close to the original Gibson LP Junior, except I made the bridge with a regular tune-o-matic, as I feel the original (non-adjustable) wrap-around bridge would give too much intonation problems. Pickup is a single P90. It's the only guitar I've had professionally spray finished at a car body shop (very expensive). Plays nice and sounds very good! #7 ![]() Les Paul Year: 2009 Status: Sold in july 2011 Found the body on ebay and it was heavily damaged. It was a Les Paul that was unfinished (it did not have any holes for the bridge yet). Probably someone bought this and it got damaged during shipping so they sold it as a project for people like me. I restored all the damage and made a new neck for it all by myself. I was very proud that in the end everything fitted right in it's place and according to the actual Gibson methods of construction. I used Gibson pickups for this guitar and Sperzel locking tuners. The future... After this I made no more guitars due to serious lack of workspace and the right tools. Before, I used to be able to use other people's workplace and tools, but that was not possible anymore and I did not want to bother people. It also doesn't help that people aren't all that co-operative. I do have positive feelings about the future. When I have my own place, I will certainly gather some stuff to continue building. I'm full of ideas! I want to make Explorers and Flying V's with cool exotic woods like Zebrawood and Rosewood. Thinking about it makes me feel excited about the future. |
