Some Kind Of Monster

Hello all you wonderful ladies. I know I've been quite absent from the boards, and in particular, the fic section as of late. Life is just a little crazy right now. However, I've kind of been writing this little story in my head for awhile now. I actually had time to write the first few chapters today and thought I might share it. I probably won't have much time to update it as I'm pretty busy at the moment. But I hope you enjoy it. On the question of gen, het or slash. So far, I haven't decided. I think there might be a bit of it all. I'll just have to wait and see. Synopsis: A young man suffers a horrible tragedy in his life and decides he needs to take some time away from his life in New York City. He heads up to northern Canada to partake in a guided hunting trip. Along the way, he meets James - a mysterious young man with a secret of his own. The two bond, though neither quite trusts the other as they can both tell that they are hiding something. However, one night, a member of the guided tour goes missing. The next night, another is murdered. There are mysterious noises in the woods and native legends tell of a monster that lurks nearby. The group becomes targeted and frightened; and one by one they are picked off until someone makes the startling discovery that it might not be a mythical monster that is after them, but perhaps one of their own. I hope you ladies enjoy it! Chapter One “Stop it Ash. Seriously. I can’t concentrate when you do that.” She giggled in his ear hotly as she ran her fingers along his thigh, tracing circles lower and lower until his fingers brushed against the warmth of the bulge in his jeans. The motion brought a soft gasp from his throat and she giggled even more fervently. She undid her seat belt and began to kiss his neck, letting her tongue trace lazy circles on the soft flesh. She could feel the racing throb of his pulse. She could see that his chest was rising and falling rapidly and the way his knuckles were white as he gripped the steering wheel of the car with deadly intent. “Ash” he whispered throatily. “Stop. Seriously. I can’t see the road. This is torture.” She giggled once more. “That’s cause it’s dark out silly. Pull over.” He shook his head. “I told your dad I would have you home an hour ago. He’s already going to kill me. He’s the sheriff for Christ’s sake” She pouted slightly, giving him a saucy look at the time same time. Her fingers went back to rubbing his groin, more firmly this time. She sighed heavily and her lips found his neck once more, probing and teasing. “You’re already dead man Rick. Just pull over.” He shook his head, refusing to let her convince him otherwise. He put his foot down on the gas pedal and the car sped up along the heavily wooded road. He kept his eyes focused on the road ahead of him, doing his best to ignore the tingling sensation in his groin. The trees fell over the road, acting like a tunnel and obscuring the moonlight so that it was nearly impossible to see. Only the headlights of the car guided the way to the small town that was still nearly an hour away. “Rick, baby. Come on. Please. I want you so bad. Baby please.” She was breathing heavily in his ear, her fingers turning his face to look at her. He tried to keeps his eyes on the road but from the corner of his eye he could see her ample cleavage on display. He finally decided to relent and tore his eyes away in order to capture her lips with his. She moaned into his mouth, her tongue rewarding him for bending to her will. He closed his eyes and began to melt into the sensations and the way their bodies hummed with need. But the pleasure was short lived as she cried out to him. “Rick! Stop! The road!” He sat back up in the driver’s seat and only had split second to see a shadowy figure in the middle of the road ahead of them. He swerved the car violently to the left and only narrowly avoided the figure before the car plunged into the woods and slammed into a tree. “Ashley?” He opened his eyes slowly. His vision was blurry and his back was killing him. But other than that, he seemed to be okay. He tried to sit up in the driver’s seat and pain shot through his back. It took him a few moments, but he was finally able to sit up and take a look around the collapsed car. He brushed some broken glass from his lap and looked over at Ashley. She was just starting to open her eyes, her head lolling a bit from side to side as she came to. He noticed some blood trickling down his forehead. “Ashley? Baby, are you okay?” She closed her eyes once more and leaned back against the seat. It seemed like ages before she answered. “Yeah, I’m okay. Are you?” “Yeah.” “What was that? In the road? Did you see it? Do you think it was an animal?” Her voice was trembling, the words almost seeming to stick in her throat. “I don’t know baby. But whatever it was, it was huge.” They sat in silence a moment, looking at each other. “I’m scared” she whispered to him. He leaned over and gently cupped her face. He brushed her hair back and gently smeared some of the blood off of her forehead. He gave her the most reassuring smile he could before he leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips. He pulled back and looked into her eyes, trying to put a brave face on for her. “Try your cellphone. Call your dad. I’m going to see what was that was back there. I’ll be right back okay? Stay here.” She nodded in agreement and began to look for her purse. He unbuckled his seat belt, wincing in pain. He then tried to the door handle, but the door was slightly warped from impact and it wasn’t opening properly. He noticed that the window had shattered on impact so he very carefully and painfully crawled through it. “Rick!” “Yeah?” “Be careful okay? There’s like bears and wolves and shit up out here” He didn’t answer, but he nodded as he began to stumble off towards the direction of the road. He had to climb up a small, slick slope in order to get back to the road. The dirt was wet and loose, and collapsed under his weight. He found himself sliding further down, unable to get a grip in the wet earth. His feet stumbled for purchase until he was finally able to rest his weight on the root of a tree upon which he was able to propel himself up and over the lip of the ditch. As he crawled over the side and into the road his eyes immediately found the black mass that was still in the middle of the road. The nigh was dark, an inky blackness that was difficult to see through. But the dark mass was darker than the night and he could just perceive the faint outline of what looked to be a humanoid form. He crawled forward carefully, afraid of what he might see. As he neared the mass, the clouds overhead parted and allowed a sliver of moonlight to rain down through the branches of the trees to cast a pale, soft glow around the form. He crawled closer still. The mass began to take on more form and he was slowly becoming more and more certain of what he was seeing. As he knelt beside the prone form, he rolled it over to reveal a young man. He was passed out, his eyes closed and his jaw slack. The man’s face was covered in dirt and his hair was disheveled and un-kept. Rick gently laid the man’s head down on the road and began to look him over, checking his pulse and trying to see if he had any obvious injuries. As his hands roamed over the man’s body, he found that they were becoming sticky and wet with some kind of substance. He stopped his search and raised his hands to his face and sniffed. Blood. The sweet, metallic stench was almost overwhelming and Rick nearly lost his stomach. His heart began to race, and his hands trembled because as he looked at the man lying before him, he was sure that he had no obvious open wounds. “Ashley!” He waited a moment, waiting for her to respond. “Ashley!” he called louder. “What?” “There’s a guy in the middle of the road! Tell your dad to bring the police with him!” Welcome to Iroquois Falls. Welcome to Hell. David shook his head as he drove past the sign, regretting his stupid decision to come out here with every passing kilometre. It was a split-second, spur of the moment decision to pack up and come all the way up to the middle of nowhere Ontario, Canada. Take some time away they had all said. Get away from it all. Invest in some you time. You deserve it. You need it. Only the more time he spent alone and away from it all, the more he couldn’t stop thinking about it. His wife, or soon to be ex-wife, his boss, the affair, his soon to be lost job. All of it was bouncing around in his head with nothing to distract him from the invasion thoughts that were permeating his mind and making him feel ill. The radio didn’t help. The change of scenery didn’t help. Neither did the crappy road trip food. Hell, his mind was working on overdrive and there was nothing to distract him. I should have just flown up here. God, what was I thinking. This was a fucking stupid idea. It had taken him about three days of straight driving to get here from New York City. He had already started to regret his decision to drive on the first day. Now here he was, day three, finally arriving and he knew for sure that he should have just flown. David saw the sign for the tourist lodge on the main drag of the small town and pulled the rental car into the parking lot. He put the car in park and turned off the ignition. He sat for a moment in silence, his hands still gripping the steering wheel firmly. “Oh please dear god let this be the right thing to do. Please don’t let me come back to a complete sit storm after this is all over” he murmured to himself. After a few more moments of sitting in silence, David undid his seatbelt and opened the door to step out of the car. He popped the trunk and then went around to collect the large hiking backpack and rifle case he had stowed back there. He also pulled out a box that contained brand new hiking boots; a bag that held is brand new camo jacket and an overnight bag for the stay in the hotel this evening. He barely managed to get the trunk closed as he collected all his belongs in his arms and started towards the door of the lodge. It was a careful balancing act, and has he neared the door, he realized that there was no he would be able to open it while carrying all his stuff. However, the stubborn streak in him rose up and he tried nevertheless. He tried to lean against the front of the building, supporting the overnight bag between his stomach and the brick. On top, he carefully balanced the shoebox. He began to reach for the door when he heard a voice from behind him. “Here, I got it.” He turned his head to taking a tall young man with blue eyes. He was wearing a hat that came down low over his face and he carried a hiking pack of his own. “Thanks.” The man opened the door and ushered David inside with a sweep of his hand. David nodded his thanks once more and then stepped inside, still somehow managing to balance all of his belongings. He carefully tread his way over to the front desk, noticing that the man was following him. He set his things down with a bit of a ruckus, getting his foot caught in the strap of his backpack as he took the last step towards the desk. He began to fall. He could feel himself going down. But before his face connected with the hard wood floor, someone caught his arm and lifted him upright again. He raised his head to see the same blue eyes staring back at him. “Shit” he whispered under his breath. He smiled up at the man. “I swear I’m not usually this...disorganized and clumsy. Thanks. Again.” “No worries man” the man giggled nervously. “It looks like you’re going hunting. “ He nodded at the rifle case lying on the floor. “Yeah. I’m here to just get away, you know?” “Yeah. I do." He hesitated a moment and David watched as something passed over the man's face. Whatever it was, it was gone within second and the man extended his hand to him. "I’m James." “David,” he replied, "David Clearwater." he extended his own hand to grasp James'. When he came to, he opened his eyes to find a bright shining directly into his face. He shied away from it, turning his head sharply, only to feel it crack in pain. He cried out, groaning as he lay there immobilized. “Son? Son? Can you hear me?” The light disappeared and he was able to roll back and look up at the voice. “Son do you know where you are? Do you remember how you got here?” He continued to lie there, feeling the tendrils of pain moving through his body. He couldn’t focus on the words of the man looking down at him. All he could feel was the pain. All he could smell was the blood. All he could taste was dirt. He tried to push through the haze and concentrate. He closed his eyes until he was able to focus on one question. “Son, what’s your name? Can you remember your name?” “David. David Clearwater.” Edited by Voxx, June 29, 2012, 11:03 pm.

Thanks ladies I'm glad the two of you are interested and reading! It gives me motivation! This next bit is pretty short. It's building for what is to come! I should also probably mention this takes place in the 90's around the load/reload era. Hope you all enjoy this next little bit! Chapter Two “If everyone could gather around please so we can get started, that would be great. Hi, my name is Dana and my partner over there is Johnny. We would like to welcome you to Iroquois Wilderness Tours. Over the next two weeks we will be guiding you through the woods up here on your hunting excursion...” David stood amongst the group, only half listening to the itinerary for the trip. Instead he was looking around at the people that he would be spending the next two weeks with. He was a people watcher, it was what he did and he did it well. There was the couple from Connecticut, obviously rich and looking for something to preoccupy themselves with. They were middle aged and the woman was quote pretty. He had met them last night at one of the local restaurants, Jackson and Lisa Schwartz. Beside the Schwartz’s was a young man, well barely old enough to be a man. He was still pimple faced and had the body of a lanky teen. His baseball cap mostly obscured his face and his hair was long, black and greasy. Next to the young man was a group of what David would refer to, being a city slicker and all, as hillbilly rednecks from somewhere in the southern states, four of them in total. They were loud and talking over whatever it was Dana was trying to explain to the group. Their attitude and the way they laughed and gawked didn’t sit well with David. Finally there was the tall blue eyed man that David had also met last night. James. He was standing slightly back from the group, a baseball cap pulled down low over his face and sunglasses covering his eyes. He was standing tall, arms crossed over his chest and he was listening intently to Dana’s instructions. He hadn't spoken to anyone in the group since they had all gathered and kept mostly to himself. There was something about him. He was intriguing. He just couldn’t put a finger on why. “So you only have minor injuries Mr. Clearwater. There are strangulation marks on your neck, few scratches on your back and a rather large, nasty bump on the head. But other than those you appear fine. You certainly don’t have any injuries that could be responsible for the large amount of blood covering your clothes.” David was barely listening to the sheriff. The quiet blip of the heart monitor next to him was making his ears ring and his head ache. He blinked slowly, trying to clear his mind and ignore the steady throb of the pain. His throat was dry and scratchy and he was fighting the urge to cough. “So I want to know what happened to you. Why were you sprawled out in the middle of the route out in the woods, miles from town?” “Could I get some water please?” David asked. The sheriff looked at him for a moment, his eyes large and unblinking. But he walked over to the table beside the hospital bed and poured some water into a cup from the jug that was sitting there. He held it out to David, his eyes boring into him. “Thanks” he croaked, grasping the paper cup. He downed the water quickly and sighed as the terrible urge to cough subsided. “Look,” he said after a moment, “I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t remember. I don’t ...I don’t know.” “Well why don’t we start with why you are in town. Can you tell me that? Your driver’s license says you’re from New York.” The sheriff took a seat next to the bed and pulled out a note pad and pen, poised to begin taking notes. “I...” he trailed off as he concentrated on the memories. “I took some vacation time to come up here on a hunting trip.” “Alone?” “Yeah.” “Are you married?” David shifted a little uncomfortably. “Separated.” The sheriff nodded, writing something on the note pad before continuing. “Did you go alone one the trip or did you hire a guide?” David thought for a moment, He tried to remember back to when he had first arrived in town and the beginning of the trip. “I...I...I don’t remember” he finished lamely. When the sheriff didn’t respond, David turned to look at him. Their eyes locked and David sensed that the sheriff already let on more than what he was telling. “Tell me what you know about me” he demanded. “Hey, it’s uh, it’s James right?” The large man turned to look over his shoulder on David as they trudged on through the woods. After being dropped off via helicopter in the middle of only god knew where, the group at been hiking for a good two hours. “Yeah. David right?” David nodded, but then realized that since James had turned back around to continue walking that he couldn’t see him. “Yeah it’s David.” He paused a moment, trying to think of something appropriate to say, cursing himself for not thinking of something before he had spoken. “So are you from around here James?” “No I’m not. I’m from the States. You?” he called back over his shoulder and he picked his way through the undergrowth. David was struggling to keep up behind him. In fact, David was last in the long line of hunters trekking along the edge of the woods, beside a river. He had bought hiking boots especially for this spur of the moment trip, but he hadn’t broken them in and now he was paying for it with painful blisters on his feet. “Oh what a coincidence, I’m from the US too, New York to be exact. What part are you from?” David lost his footing on the slippery rocks and went down. He tried not to cry out in pain, and he didn’t, but only because he had the wind knocked out from him as he landed hard on the rocks. He saw James spin around at the sound and he cringed in embarrassment. “I’m okay,” he groaned, “I’m okay. He pushed himself up, gasping a little as he tried to regain his breath. He watched as James carefully and expertly picked his way across the rocks and back over to him. He held his hand out again for the second time in their brief acquaintance. David grasped it and James hauled him up. “I take it you’re new at this.” “How could you tell?” The both chuckled a bit as David brushed the mud off from is pants and shirt. “You really do have New York written all over you. You didn’t even need to tell me you were from there.” “Oh really? Are you an expert on New Yorkers?” “Naw, I’ve just visited a few times. I’m from the West Coast, living in the Bay area at the moment.” “Oh right on, that’s a beautiful area. What do you do out there?” They started to pick their way across the rocks again, making sure to not be left too far behind the tour. David studied James again from behind as they walked. He was clearly experienced at the whole hunting business. He could tell from the way he walked, to the way he carried his equipment and backpack. If anything, David bet that James probably worked out doors a lot. His guess was that James worked construction. “I’m a musician.” Okay, well that was pretty off. Get with it Dave, you’re better at this kind of stuff than that. “Oh yeah? That’s pretty cool” David replied as they began to hike away from the river and back deeper into the woods. They were moving at a good pace and it wasn’t long before they found the group again. “How’s that working out for you?” “It’s not bad. I can’t complain.” |
