Good chapter there! I do like the way you've written it very sensitively. I could just picture the scene. So - what is going to happen when the boys start hankering after their old lives, after their homes. And another thought that occurs is - how are they going to explain (if they bring them with them) the fact they have wives etc?! That should be good fun :) I'm so so looking forward to the next part!

Wow, everything is going well with our boys :) 'Papa James' rocks!!
I loved the descriptions in those two chapters. Metallibabies are so sweet :biggrin And I felt sorry for Kirk - missing his mother, I'm sure others miss their friends and families from the future too.... I'm curious what's up with Lars and Violet :D
Oh, I can't wait for more!

Chapter 63

"Violet, are you all right? You just relax, let me handle it", said Lars.

"Lars, I am not a doll. Really, I am fine", she chided, her hand on her enormously pregnant belly.

"Violet, I just don't want you to get hurt, or for the baby to be hurt. I don't know much about kids, I just don't want you to get hurt", he said, putting an arm around her.

Violet kissed his cheek. "Lars, that is sweet of you. But I surely can mix a lotion, husband. You are too nervous for your own good", she chided.

"Of course, that is my duty, wife. When we get back to the 20th century, you'll never have to do this again. I want to take care of you and our children", he said fiercely.

"Lars, I do not want to be like those ladies who do nothing but sew and gossip. I would be extremely bored like that. Are women in your time like that as well?", she asked.

"Yeah, there's rich people who don't do shit either. It really sucks when there's chicks like that. I've dated a few back in the day, they're boring as fuck, all they do is paint their nails, watch soap operas and shop. The only reason to date them is to fuck 'em, they're stupid", he said, rolling his eyes.

"Hopefully, you have put that behind you, husband", she said, raising an eyebrow.

Lars turned bright red. "Of course, Violet. They're nothing compared to you. You're both smart and beautiful. Not to mention a lot of fun", he chuckled suggestively.

Violet flushed prettily. "Aye, Lars, that fun is how I got like this in the first place", she giggled.

"Of course, wife", he chuckled.

Violet felt a slight twinge in her belly, as she cried softly. "Ooh", she moaned.

"Violet, are you all right?", he asked.

She nodded weakly, as another twinge hit her belly. Suddenly, she felt a rush of fluid come down her legs, as the pains became sharper.

"Shit! Violet!", he yelled.

Mary burst into the room. "Lars, Violet is having her baby. I shall get the midwife", she said, rushing out the door.

Lars carried her over to the bed, his heart pounding in fear. Shit, she's having the baby, and we don't have any modern medicine or anything near a hospital. I hope she's going to be okay, he prayed.

I hope Violet is okay too. Modern medicine would definitely make things easier for her. I can't wait to find out what's going to happen. You left us at another cliffhanger. :)

Chapter 64

Annie, the village midwife, arrived in the castle several minutes later. She raised an eyebrow at Lars, before turning to Mary.

"Mistress Hammett, find me Amy Connolly and bring her to the keep", she commanded.

"Why do you want Daniel's wife?", he asked, puzzled.

"She is the assistant midwife, Master Ulrich. Now Mistress Hammett, find her", she repeated.

Annie and Lars helped Violet onto the bed. She moaned weakly, closing her eyes at the pain.

"Is she going to be all right?", he asked worriedly.

"Master Ulrich, you are a man. You have no idea about babies. Women birth babies every day, 'tis nothing to be concerned about. Now go to the tavern and drink and find a wench", she said.

"My wife is having a baby, and you expect me to get drunk and fuck some whore?", he asked incredulously.

"Many men do that, Master Ulrich. All they want to know is if they have a son", she said bitterly.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here until the baby's born", he said stubbornly.

"Master Ulrich, just stay out of my way", she said.

Mary then arrived, along with Amy. "Violet, I need to examine you. Ah, the contractions are about ten minutes apart. That is good", she said, as Violet cried out in pain.

Fuck, what's going on? Is she going to be all right?, he wondered.

"Master Ulrich, Daniel and your friends are here. Go with them, laddie", she said kindly.

Lars nodded slowly, leaving the room. His knees were shaking, his throat dry.

"Lars, I know. But Violet's a strong woman. She's gonna be fine, and then you'll hold your kid for the first time", said Kirk, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Lars smiled gratefully at him, sinking down into the chair with a sigh. Yeah, maybe Kirk's right. I don't know crap about childbirth, I'd best leave this to the women, he thought.

Daniel entered the room, followed by Annaly and his and Amy's son Rory. "I came after I heard. I hope Amy will be able to help your wife, Lars", he murmured.

He smiled at him. "I know, thanks. I hope so too. I don't know crap about babies", he sighed.

"Us men should leave all this to the women. I was like you when Annaly was born, the midwife had to kick me out. Relax, the babe shall be fine", he said.

I like Daniel and Amy together.

I do hope that Violet is alright though. If not, will Lars take her to modern times???

I like it that Lars isn't out screwing some wench while his wife is having a kid. He's a good boy. :)

This story has so many twists and turns. I can't wait to see what will happen next.

Caution, this chapter contains a graphic description of childbirth.

Chapter 65

Several hours passed, and Violet was still in childbirth. Lars paced up and down the room, a knot of worry tightening in his stomach.

What the hell is going on in there? Is she going to be all right?, he wondered.

Amy and Annie emerged from the room, anxious looks on their faces. "What's going on? Is she all right?", he asked, fear in his voice.

"Master Ulrich, the babe is facing the wrong way. I have to turn it around, so it will be in the proper position", said Annie.

"Well, do it", he growled.

"It is not that easy. You see, I have to go into her womb and turn the babe around. It is going to be very painful. We shall need your permission to proceed", she replied.

"Is there anything I can do?", he asked.

"Yes. You will have to hold her, she will be in terrible pain", replied Amy.

"I'll do it", he said, a determined look on his face.

The trio entered the room, and Lars was shocked at the sight. Violet lay in bed, her face pale and her skin covered in a think sheen of sweat. Her pregnant belly swelled grotesquely from her slim body, soft cries coming from her throat.

"Lars, it hurts", she whimpered.

"Master Ulrich, let her hold your arm. She will need something to hold on to", commanded Annie, washing her hands and walking over to the bed.

"Violet, I shall have to go into your womb to position the child. Hold onto his arm, this will hurt plenty, but the babe shall be born safely. Ye ken?", asked Amy.

Violet nodded, too weak to talk. "Now hold on tightly. I shall try not to hurt ye", murmured Annie, reaching into her womb, feeling the baby's feet.

She screamed in pain, as Annie's hands moved inside her, moving the baby. Violet gripped his arms tightly, eyes stinging with painful tears.

Lars didn't pull away, even though she held him so tight as to leave a bruise. What are they doing to her? I hope the baby's going to be all right.

Annie withdrew from her body, a weak smile on her face. "The babe is in the proper position. Now it is only a matter of time", she said, washing her hands again.

The contractions started again, as Violet panted. "I can see the babe's head. Just push hard, Violet", commanded Annie.

Violet pushed with all her might, as a baby's cry filled the air. Amy cut the umbilical cord with a knife, as Violet expelled the placents, breathing a sigh of relief.

"Violet, are you all right? How's the baby?", he asked, his heart pounding in fear.

"I am tired, I shall be fine later, Annie. How is the babe?", she asked.

"Violet, Master Ulrich, it is a girl", she replied, handing her the baby.

Lars smiled down at the infant. Their daughter was pink and chubby, with a mop of dark curls on her head. She opened her eyes and began to cry.

"I think she is hungry", said Amy", putting the baby to her breast.

Violet looked down at her daughter, as she began to nurse. "Lars look, she has your eyes", she whispered.

"Yeah, she's beautiful", he murmured. He smiled at his daughter, an overpowering feeling of love welling up inside him. She is as beautiful as her mother. I can't believe it, we have a daughter, he thought happily.

"Lars, are you upset we do not have a son?", she whispered.

"No, of course not. I love her already. How could you say that?", he asked, shocked.

"Most men are upset if their first-born is a girl", she replied matter of factly.

"Assholes. I love you, Violet, and I love our daughter. What do you want to name her?", he asked.

"I want to name her Beatrice, after the lady in Master Dante's poem. I hope she will grow up to be a fine lady", she replied.

"I like it. Our daughter is Beatrice Ulrich", he said.

Damn poor Violet. And they didn't have drugs to give her. I'm glad that I'm not having kids.

that's sad about the fathers not wanting daughters. :(

I wonder what's up next for the Highland Metallica. :horns: Good writing too! Even if it did sound painful. It's supposed to.

Glad to see that it all turned out okay there - although there were a few hairy moments.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the boys get up to next!

This chapter mentions true events that happened with the Jacobites in 1715 and 1745.

Chapter 66

"Father, the prince has landed at Glenfinnan, raised his standard. I want to join him, we shall have the rightful king upon the throne", vowed Conor.

The laird stared at his son, his eyes narrowed. "Conor, ye are too young to remember the rebellion of '15. We lost lands, and the Mackenzies of Seaforth were reduced to poverty. Your uncle William, the Earl of Seaforth, his title was revoked and he lost most of his lands. Ye see how poor they are now? Laddie, I have a bad feeling about this. If we fight the crown and are defeated, we shall loose our lands, and the earldom of Cromartie.

"Father, the title is an English title, it means nothing. If Charles Stuart becomes king, we shall have a Scottish earldom, not a bloody Sassenach one", he spat.

The laird smacked his son across the face, glaring at him. "Ye shall not join any rebellion, Conor. I want peace, we have enought trouble with the MacDonnels. I do not want to be dragged into another conflict like the '15. I have worked all my life to bring peace to the clan. I will not lose it to a spalpeen like you", he growled.

"Father, you are old. Do you not want the glory? The rightful king shall be on the throne, and we will not have those bloody German lording over us", he said, his eyes glowing with passion.

Cliff was in the hall, fetching a bow and arrow for Alisdair, when he heard them. A feeeling of unease grew inside him, a chill running down his spine.

The laird is right, the rebellion is a bad idea, he mused. Cliff had once seen a documentary on PBS about the Jacobite uprisings, and it worried him.

If they join the rebellion, they're gonna be defeated. Then what? He shuddered when he recalled the segment on Culloden, where the Scottish army had been annihilated.

I gotta talk to the others, and we definetly gotta get back, or at least leave this area. I got a bad feeling about all this, he thought.

He was so engrossed in his thoughts, that he didn't see where he was going. "Cliff, watch out", said Violet.

Cliff turned bright red when he realized he'd almost knocked over Violet. "Sorry there. I was thinking", he mumbled.

"Are you all right, Cliff? Do you want some tea?", she asked.

"Yeah, I gotta speak to you and your dad. I overhead the laird and Conor speaking. It's urgent. And don't tell anyone except the others", he whispered.

"I shall tell Father. Lars will give you further instructions", she murmured.

Admittedly the battle of Culloden was a slaughterfield - but should Cliff really be thinking about messing around with the past? Because whatever happens in the past, affects the future... there could be some interesting repercussions from this one and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens!

Shayi brings up a good point. Cliff would be rather messing around with the past. This could spell disaster. That's why I love this story. I can never guess what's going to happen next. The plot is rich and could go so many ways, that it always keeps the reader on their toes guessing. Not a moment is predictable and that makes reading very enjoyable.
