Poor Dave - at least he's being sensible about things, which doesn't really help I'm sure. His stories sound like they would be rather entertaining however, something that could certainly give nightmares!

Since I have a few minutes, here's another update :)

Chapter 108

Bridget sighed, a sinking feeling in her stomach. After several weeks of traveling, they had finally arrived in Turku, Finland.

They had crossed the mountains from Bergen to Oslo, where they boarded a ship to Copenhagen. From there, it was another ship to Stockholm, and finally to Turku.

Simon was sent to Turku to manage the Finnish branch of the business. Bridget had been depressed the whole journey. It was only her and Simon, along with his bodyguard Vagn.

Simon had more or less ignored her at, except at night. Bridget closed her eyes, her stomach churning at the idea.

I cannot stand his touch, I only want Dave to touch me. Simon is so greedy, not tender at all. He will not stop until I am with child, she thought bitterly.

Violet hadn't been able to give her the recipe for the potion. It is only a matter of time, I would not hate the babe, it is not their fault. She closed her eyes, smiling at the idea of a baby with red hair and hazel eyes, like Dave.

"We are here at Mustasydan, wife. I am master here", said Simon, a stern expression on his face.

"Yes, I know, Simon", she replied.

"Good, you must remember, pikku kaunis. I am your husband, you obey me", he said.

Bridget shivered. His green eyes were cold, in spite of the smile on his face. What did he mean by that?, she wondered.

Vagn stopped his horse in front of a large house. The house was located inland, several kilometers from the city itself. It was a large, two-story house made of dark, almost black wood, the white shutters on the windows startling against the blackness. It was right in the middle of a dense forest, only a few feeble rays of light poking out from the canopy of trees.

It is such a gloomy house, unlike Papa's house. I have a bad feeling about ths, she thouhgt.

A middle-aged woman exited the house, walking over to them. She was short and stout, graying blond hair under a kerchief, wearing a plain black dress and an apron.

"Tervetuloa, Herra Bergstrom, Herra Jansen. Mika sinun vaimo?", she asked.

"Kylla, Rouva Jarvinen. Saanko esitella minun vaimo, Bridget?', replied Simon.

"Kuinka voitte, Neiti Bridget. Olen Rouva Jarvinen, puhdistaa", she said politely.

"Det var hyggetig a mote dem. Jeg snakker bare Engelsk, Norsk, Dansk, og Gaelic. Jeg ikke vet Suomi", she said apologitically.

Mrs. Jarvinen looked confused. "Han tehda puhutteko Suomi", he replied smoothly.

"Anteeksi, Neiti Bridget. Kaykaa sisaan", she said, leading them to the house.

I liked the idea of Dave liking to be around Annaly and Penny.
And Penny asking about Black Sabbath monster rocked :D
And poor, poor Bridget. Certainly, Simon will make her miserable :( :(
I'm curious what will happen in the future for those two. And the rest of guys too of course :)

Urgh Simon sounds entirely vile. What we need is Dave to do his finest knight in shining armour impression and come zooming to the rescue (although he'll need help from the other guys I would assume!). Either that, or does Bridget have it in her to make the break and escape herself. I don't see her as one to suffer what she's going through without kicking back.... we'll see :)

Chapter 109

Bridget sat on the edge of the bed in her chamber, feeling very depressed. Simon had just shown her to her room and had left immediately with Vagn, leaving her alone.

I do not like it here already. I do not understand any Finnish, and that is all they speak here. Mistress Jarvinen seems pleasant enough, but I still do not like this, she thought, tears forming in her eyes.

There was a slight knock on the door, and then a servant girl walked in. She was quite young, about fourteen or fifteen years old, with long blond hair and soft blue eyes.

"Paivaa, Neiti Bridget. Olen Maria Jokinen, sinun lastenhoistaja", she said, making a curtsy.

"Hello, Maria. I assume you are my maide. Can you speak anything other than Finnish?", she asked hopefully.

Maria looked blankly at her mistress. "Mita sanoitte? Ei ymmartaa",s he said, a puzzled look on her face.

"Does anyone here speak anything other than bloody Finnish?", she muttered.

"Sina ei Suomi?", she asked.

Bridget shook her head, hoping she understood.

"Mina nahola, Neiti Bridget", she replied in understanding. Maria walked over to the closet and took out several dresses, laying them out on the bed.

Bridget nodded in understanding. She gazed at the dresses, examining them. They were pretty, yet simple dresses for being in the house, which did not require a corset or petticoats.

She chose an apple green cotton dress with short sleeves and a round collar. Maria nodded, unlacing her dress and helping her out of the corset. Bridget sighed in relief, taking a deep breath. She smiled gratefully at the girl, as she helped her put on the dress.

Maria pointed to a chair in front of the vanity, motioning for her to sit down. She took out the pins in Bridget's hair, the dark brown mass cascading almost to her waist. Maria found a brush at ran it through her hair.

Bridget closed her eyes, as Maria brushed her hair. She is a good girl, she reminds me of Greta. It is not her fault she cannot understand me. I hope there is someone who speaks something other than Finnish, she mused.

Meanwhile, Simon and Vagn had gone to their private chamber in the basement of the house. Vagn lit a torch in the corner of the room, as it was flooded with light.

Simon locked the door behind him, quickly glancing about the room. It was their secret room, where they went to be alone. It was low-ceilinged with only one tiny window near the top. The walls were painted black, the floors covered with black bear pelts.

All the furniture was made of rich cherry wood, the deep red color taking on a sinister glow in the darkness. On the walls hung the heads of animals mounted on wooden plaques, their dead glassy eyes shining in the torchlight.

Simon poured them each a goblet of red wine, the liquid being poured the only sound in the room. He handed one to Vagn, as they saluted each other.

"Skoal", he toasted, drinking the wine.

"How long?", asked Vagn.

"I would say about a year. Then the last obstacle will be eliminated. We can conduct our business as we please, my wealth will shield us", he chuckled, an odd gleam in his eyes.

Hot damn - what is that nasty toe rag Simon up to? Whatever it is - I'm sure it's pretty damned horrible. I feel so sorry for Bridget, it must be awful to be stuck in a country where you understand none of the language, and they understand none of yours. I really hope that someone comes to her rescue, and soon!

Simon can't be up to any good. Poor Bridget! I do love when you describe her gowns though. You do good with dress descriptions and I like reading about dresses.
:)

I do really feel for Bridget though. It has to be difficult being so far from home and anything familiar.

Chapter 110

Dave and Annaly walked in the forest, her clutching a basket. "We are going to find a lot of berries, Mistress Hetfield makes the best jelly", she said, licking her lips.

"I know, no wonder James is getting fat. I used to tease Junior about being such a farmboy, and now look at me", he joked.

"Who is Junior, Dave?", she asked.

"Junior is David Ellefson, my partner. He's from Minnesota, right off the farm he is. Good kid, I had to show him the ropes when he moved to LA", he chuckled.

"Is he related to the Ellefsons who live in the valley?", she asked.

"Yeah, I think so. I mean, Leif and Pastor Holmgren look just like him. One of his sisters is married to a guy named Ellefson, and the kids look just like her. Which is a good thing, her husband is damn ugly. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone in the family looks like Junior", he cracked.

"Is Junior your friend? Do you miss him, Dave?", she asked.

He sighed, a wistful expression in his hazel eyes. "Yeah, I guess you could say that. I tease the hell outta him, but he's a good kid. I think I do miss him", he mused aloud.

Tarja was outside feeding nuts to the squirrels in the yard, when she saw them. "Paivaa, Master Mustaine and Miss Connolly. How may I help you?", she asked graciously.

"Oh hi, Tarja. We were gathering berries, we must've stumbled on your place by accident", he replied sheepishly.

"You are not a bother to me. Come in, I just gathered some apples and wild honey, and have brewed a pot of tea", she said, leading them inside.

Annaly gazed curiously at the room. "Are you a witch, Mistress Tarja?", she asked innocently.

"Some have called us witches, but we do not consort with the devil or deliberately harm others. Yes, I can see things and predict events, but I do not use my gifts to hurt others", she replied.

"Papa says my mother was killed for being a witch. Am I a witch?", she asked, her eyes wide.

"No, your mother was a healer, skilled with herbs, yes, but not a witch. Only the ignorent believe such things", said Tarja, setting out a bowl of apples and another bowl of honey.

The apples were amongst the first of the newly ripened crop. Their reddish skins were shiny, spots of green vivid against the red. The honey waas a deep golden brown, catching the rays of the sun from the tiny window.

"Ooh, apples. I have not had apples in over a year. You like apples, Dave?", she asked, grabbing an apple.

Dave smiled at her, grabbing an apple for himself and cutting it open. He sliced it, removing the core and tossing it aside, dipping the slice into the honey.

He ate the slice, a smile slowly forming on his lips. "Let me cut the apple for you, Annaly" he said, cutting the apple for her.

Tarja took a bite of her own apple, watching them with a thoughtful expression on her face. He is not a bad sort at all. There is a lot of goodness in this young man. He was a on a path to self destruction, hopefully he shall not fall back into his old ways.

"Master Mustaine, you appear to be very fond of Miss Connolly", she said.

"She's a good kid. I got several nieces her age, I like to babysit them", he replied, a wistful look on his face.

"How many nieces you have, Dave?", asked Annaly, popping an apple slice into her mouth.

"I have three sisters and three nieces. I like to babysit them, they're good kids. You're a good kid, Annaly", he murmured.

Yeah, and I should never have kids. They might end up as fucked up as me, and I don't want my kids to hate me when they grow up. Besides, I don't have Bridget. I can't have kids without her, he thought, quickly finishing off the rest of his apple.

I liked that chapter. Dave and Annaly are sweet together and I like the Tarja was very nice to Annaly telling her that her mom was a healer.
I think Annaly's mother and Violet would have gotten along good together. I just wonder what poor Dave will do now that Bridget is gone???? I wonder if Tarja can be some help. :wink

Wonderful!!!!!!

Chapter 111

Dave and Annaly emerged from the forest several hours later. The basket was full to bursting with ripe berries, the succulent blue and purple fruit fat and juicy.

"Dave, Miss Tarja found us some good berries. I cannot wait to have pie", giggled Annaly, smacking her lips.

Dave chuckled, ruffling her hair. "I know. Man, I haven't had pie in years, since I was a kid when we'd go to Grandma's house", he said wistfully.

They both made their way into the kitchen, where Jeanie was helping the cook, Helga. "We got the berries, Miss Helga. I cannot wait for the pie", she giggled.

Helga smiled at them. She was a tall, stout woman with graying hair and light blue eyes. She wore a simple blue dress and an apron stretched over her ample bosom.

"Ja, you have the berries. And what good berries they are", she cackled, taking the basket from them.

"Annaly, Amy is in the weaving room, if you wish join her. Or do you want to work in the kitchen?", asked Jeanie.

"I want to work in the kitchen, I do not like weaving", said Annaly, making a face.

"All right", replied Jeanie, handing her an apron.

"Where's the other guys?", asked Dave.

"Kirk and Daniel are minding the children. Lars is helping Violet, and Cliff and James are out hunting", she replied.

Dave nodded in thanks and exited the kitchen. He made his way to the back garden, following the sounds of children's voices.

He couldn't help but smile when he beheld the sight. Kirk, Daniel and Mary were watching the children. The older children played with each other, as the babies lay down on a blanket.

Kirk had out a guitar, quietly tuning it. Mary peered over his shoulder, observing his fingers. Daniel looked on impassively, watching his fingers.

"So Kirk, you play the guitar here too?", he asked, immediately feeling dumb about asking the question.

"Yeah, Lachlan had a guitar in the attic. I'm teaching Mary to play too, and I'm gonna teach Keith when he's old enough", he said proudly.

"Cool, I wonder if he has a spare?", he muttered under his breath.

"Later on, Mary and I are going to play together. You want to join us?", he asked.

"Eh, why not. I'll just put in some earplugs in case it sucks", he joked.

Kirk gave him a small smile. Dave's trying to hide it, but he's miserable. He must really miss Bridget, but he does try to hide it, he mused, feeling sorry for Dave.

Later on that evening, the entire group, along with the Mackenzie family and the servants were gathered in the parlor. Kirk and Mary stood in the center, all eyes on them.

Kirk strummed a guitar, Mary clearing her throat. He then played the opening notes of Battle of Evermore, as she began to sing.

Dave felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. Kirk and Mary had a wonderful chemistry while performing, his guitar playing a compliment to her soprano.

They're perfect for each other, like Bridget and I. I wish we could be like them, he thought, tears filling his eyes.

"That was great, guys", he said, abruptly leaving the room.

I feel so bad for Dave. He's such a sweetie in this. I loved this part

Kirk and Daniel are minding the children

That thought amuses me. It would be neat to see Kirk and Dave playing their guitars together. I think being sent back was good for everyone. :)
