Finland was Swedish territory until the 1800's, and during this time, Norway was ruled by Denmark, and Denmark and Sweden were rivals throughout the Middle Ages. Chapter 121 The group arrived in Oslo several days later. The town was at the bottom of a series of hills, the Oslofjord shining in the sun. It was surrounded by green hills, several houses nestled at their feet. The dock was full of boats and ships, some large, some small. "Oslo is a lot smaller than when we last visited, that was in 1984", shrugged Lars. "Of course, dumbass. It's a lot bigger in the 20th century", retorted Dave. "Stop that. The ship sails tomorrow for Copenhagen, it is only six or seven hours. Unfortunately, we must go to Stockholm overland, our ships cannot go to Swedish territory without a permit", said Sean. "Then how come you got a branch in Turku? Isn't that Swedish territory?", asked Lars, puzzled. "Aye. However, the company branch is in my father's name, as he is not a Danish subject. However, Bridget and I are Danish subjects. Simon is the manager, but the company is in my father's name", he explained. "Smooth, your dad's a helluva businessman. So what do we do in the meantime?", asked Lars. "Let us take Mistress Tarja and Leif sightseeing. We shall find accomidations later", said Sean. Leif looked down at the city, his eyes wide. "Aye, 'tis big. I doubt you have seen anything like that before", chuckled Sean. "Ja, I have only seen Bergen twice, to sell vegetables with my father. Even that was not as big as Oslo", he said shyly. "I have seen Turku and Aberdeen, but they are small compared to Oslo. Is Copenhagen as big?", asked Tarja. "Hell yeah. I was born in Copenhagen, Oslo is about the same size. I do want to see what Copenhagen looks like now, though. I wonder if I can find my old house", he mused aloud. Later on that evening, they find an inn near the docks. "Ja, may I help you?", asked the innkeeper, an enormous man with heavily muscled arms. "Ja, two rooms, if you can spare them", replied Sean. "We have room, are you travelers?", he asked. "Ja, we are traveling to Copenhagen on business on the morrow", he replied. "Ja, here are your keys", he said, handing them the keys. |

That would be neat to see your old homeland hundreds of years ago. The United States wouldn't even be recognizable. I wonder if Lars will be able to see his old house. And I liked this part "Smooth, your dad's a helluva businessman. So what do we do in the meantime?", asked Lars. I like that in the middle of all the 18th century talk Lars uses words like "smooth" and "helluva"

It would be ridiculously awesome to be able to travel back in time to see what where you live is like back then. Where I live now I guess would have been a small fishing village! Where I used to live, that would have been a village outside a big city. Cool to think about. I love the fact that they're going sightseeing as well. That just strikes me as helluva cool! |

Chapter 122 The group went upstairs to their rooms. "Leif and I will share a room, Dave and Lars, you share with Tarja", said Sean. "Not bad. First time I shared a room with a chick and didn't want to fuck her", joked Lars. "Yeah, she's your mother-in-law, dipshit", retorted Dave. "Anyway, let us rest for a bit, then we shall get something to eat. Remember, try not to attract attention, I do not want to get robbed", warned Sean. "Yeah, I heard there were a lot of thieves back then. I don't want trouble", said Dave. He took out the key and opened the door. The room was spartan, but reasonably clean. In the center of the room was a large bed on a brass frame, a nightstand with a bowl next to it. A cracked mirror stood in the corner, heavy grime coating the surface. "Eh, it sucks, but I've stayed in worse, trust me", said Dave. "I know. Who get's the bed, though?", asked Lars. "Tarja, you take the bed, because you're a girl", said Dave. "Kiitos, Master Mustaine. But it is a large bed, and the floor is cold. Are you sure you want to sleep on the floor?", she asked. "Yeah, she's right. I guess we can all sleep in the bed. I mean, it's not like we're going to have sex. This is only for one night", said Lars. "All right. I hope you don't snore or have cold feet, Ulrich", joked Dave. "Same here, Mustaine", he retorted. Several minutes later, they all went downstairs to the dining room. Sean led them to a table in the back, as they all sat down. "Remember, do not get drunk or attract attention. I am trying to be discreet", said Sean. Dave nodded, taking in his surroundings. The tavern was smoky and dark, the aroma of roasting meat and wood smoke hanging in the air. Their table was covered in a rough woolen cloth, the sawdust crunching under their boots. There were only a few other people there, travelers like themselves. A serving girl came over to their table, a saucy grin on her face. She was blond and buxom, clad in a tight red dress that could barely contain her breasts. "What can I get you?", she asked, winking at Leif. His face turned bright red, as the others chuckled knowingly. "The daily special and three tankards of ale and two glasses of milk", said Sean politely. "Your wish is my command", she giggled, walking towards the kitchen. Leif kept his eyes on her backside, the flush still on his cheeks. "Oooh Junior, you got the hots for her?", teased Dave. "Ja, she is nice", he mumbled. "Aye, I know. But I am courting Sonja", chuckled Sean. "Thanks for ordering the milk. I don't wanna look like a wimp", said Dave. "Dave, you cannot drink alcohol. And that was kind of you Sean", said Lars. "I know several men like that. They drink and become violet. Dave, you are like that. 'Tis terrible, but you are not a weak man for it", replied Sean. The waitress arrived with their drinks, before going back to the kitchen. Dave couldn't help but feel envious w hen he saw the others drink their beer. Man, here I am in a bar, drinking milk. I hope the others never hear of this, he thought. The girl arrived several minutes later with their food. It was some type of heavy stew, brown chunks of meat floating in the gravy. The vegetables floated on the surface, a contrast to the brownness. A loaf of bread was set down in the middle of the table, a knife stuck in its side. Dave poked at the food with his spoon, stirring his plate. It can't be that bad, it looks like canned stew, he thought, cautiously taking a bite. "Not bad, but a bit salty. Oh well, I'm starving", he shrugged. "Yeah, it's not bad, eat up", commanded Lars. When they were finished, the girl cleared the table. Sean took out a leather pouch form under his shirt, putting a few coins on the table. "Let us go upstairs, so we do not attract trouble", he said, as they all went upstairs. |

That was a funny chapter The whole conversation between Tarja, Lars and Dave made me laugh, especially that bit: "Not bad. First time I shared a room with a chick and didn't want to fuck her", joked Lars. "Yeah, she's your mother-in-law, dipshit", retorted Dave." And that was very kind of them to offer Tarja to sleep in the bed, gentlemens they are even if they'll sleep in it that was very kind And I loved Dave feeling grumpy over drinking milk in the bar, funny great chapter!! :horns2

I'm going to quote the same part as Maggie since it was so damn funny. "Not bad. First time I shared a room with a chick and didn't want to fuck her", joked Lars. "Yeah, she's your mother-in-law, dipshit", retorted Dave I also loved your decription of the tavern and that stew sounded delicious. I wonder if Leif is going to get with the hot server chick. She seemed like a nice lass. I liked how you decrbied her dress that could barely contain her breasts. That was a nice touch and I certainly could imagine the dress.Great and marvelous chapter!! |

*G* I too have to agree that I loved that conversation between Dave and Lars - hilarious! The other bit that tickled me was Dave being miffed that he was in a bar and he had to drink milk - poor chap! I hope that they don't run into trouble, but the little group seems to have been a general magnet for trouble (I mean, Kirk and his missus for starters!) ever since they arrived. We'll see

Chapter 123 "Johannes, how is your job? Is it exciting?", giggled Tatiana. He smiled wanly at his sister. "It is interesting, Tatiana. Is Mikko taking you out tonight?", he asked, changing the subject. Tatiana giggled, a flush on her cheeks. "Kylla, there is a dance in the church tonight. He is taking me", she sighed. He smiled but it didn't reach his eyes. I wish I could be happy for them, but I cannot. I am lucky Herra Bergstrom let me see them, I must be a good boy, he thought. Johannes closed his eyes, shuddering at what they did to him. I cannot let Mama and Papa know, they would be ashamed. It is evil, and I cannot stop them, he mused. "Mama, I am going for a walk", he said, getting up from the table. Johannes left the house, and made a quick detour into the forest. The voices of the villagers grew fainter, the farther he went. I am ashamed of myself, they do that, and I like it. I am not a sodomite, I do not want to be one. I need to get married to a woman, my parents would be ashamed of me, he thought, his eyes filling with tears. In spite of his good looks, Johannes had never really been attracted to women. Some he found to be attractive, but he actually preferred men. He was torn. On the one hand, his parents and the villagers would be disgusted and ashamed of him. On the other hand, he wanted to lie with a man as though they were a woman. Herra Bergstrom is kind, and I like his caresses. But I cannot let my parents find out. What do I do?, he wondered. Johannes came to a clearing in the forest. In the center was a makeshift hut made of tree branches and leaves, the walls caked with hard-packed dirt. Outside was a man in his late twenties to early thirties. He was clad in a snow-white robe, his long black beard and hair providing a contrast. He sat cross-legged, smoking a long clay pipe, the smoke curling about his head. The man sensed his presence, slowly turning to face him. His eyes were a startling shade of blue, the color of the lake near the village. They were slightly tilted at the corners; along with his high cheekbones and black hair, this gave him a vaguely exotic appearance. "Paivaa, vieras. I am Kullervo", he said, speaking with an odd accent. "I am Johannes, I am sorry to have bothered you sir", he replied. "Nonsense, my boy. Come, let me make you some tea", he said, leading them into the hut. |

Wow. So not only do we find out that Johannes likes men, but we've also got an intriguing new character as well Awesome. He was clad in a snow-white robe, his long black beard and hair providing a contrast. He sat cross-legged, smoking a long clay pipe, the smoke curling about his head. I thought that description was very good, and he sounds very much like some druid type fellow so it will be interesting to see where this leads! |

Chapter 124 Kullervo led him inside the hut. Johannes looked around curiously. It was tiny, a single room furnished with only a small table, two chairs, and a straw pallet covered with a blanket. He set a kettle on the tiny stove, placing two cups and saucers on the table. "Please sit down, Johannes. I am preparing the tea", he said. Johannes sat down warily on one of the chairs. Kullervo added more tobacco to his pipe, and puffed away. He took the pipe out of his mouth, gazing at him critically. "You are employed at the Bergstrom house, Mustasydan", he said. "How did you know?", he asked, his eyes wide with fear. "I know. And you are conflicted, right? There is something unwholesome about Herra Bergstrom and his bodyguard", he said. "What? How did you know?", he squeaked. "I know. Johannes, do not be afraid. I will not hurt you. Herra Bergstrom is an evil man. Outside, he is handsome as a god. Inside, he is like a wormy apple with a pleasant appearance", he murmured. "It is true. They do things to me. But I like it. My parents would be ashamed. I am the only son, I cannot be a sodomite", he whispered, tears falling onto his cheeks. Kullervo poured them each a cup of tea. "Johannes, you should not be ashamed. Some people are drawn to those of the same gender. What they do is evil, because it involves innocents. Those boys who occasionally disappear from the village? Herra Bergstrom seduces them. One of them was my brother, Tuomas", he said, looking into his cup. "What? Then why do the villagers not kill him?", he growled. "Johannes, if the peasants killed him, the army would kill everyone in the village. It is not worth it", said Kullervo gently. "What do we do?", he asked. "I had a vision last night. A group of six travelers from a distant land are coming this way. They have business with Herra Bergstrom, and it has something to do with his wife. I saw a tall, redhaired man, him and Rouva Bergstrom are closely tied together. There is a lot of anger and grief coming from this man, and there is a child involved", murmured Kullervo. "Herra Bergstrom has a wife. She is from Norway, and cannot speak our language. She is lovely, and seems very sad. I do not think she wanted this marriage. She is with child", he replied. "Hmm, perhaps this redhaired man is a lover of hers, they had a very strong connection. Perhaps they still pine for each other", he mused aloud. |

Wow. I guess Simon really is just pure evil. I'm very glad that Johannes knows the inside scoop on him along with what is up with Bridget. I hope that he can return to Mustaine. This is awesome and I can't wait for the next bit.
