Simon is evil indeed... :ugh: Poor boys... And poor Johannes, it's a good thing he met Kullervo :) Is he some kind of clairvoyant? Cool :cool
And I can't wait what will happen when Dave and the rest will arrive to Turku!

Chapter 125

"Man, I am glad to be on dry land. "I didn't know such a short trip could make me nauseous", said Dave, taking a deep breath.

"Well, you didn't wanna eat ginger, dipshirt. We'll just relax for a bit", said Lars.

"Hey, it's not my fault I can't eat ginger, I'm allergic", retorted Dave, feeling his stomach churn.

"Lars, do not tease Dave. He cannot eat ginger. Let us find accomidations first, so Dave and Leif can relax", said Sean.

"Ja, thank you, Herr Mackenzie. Like Dave, I do not feel right", he chuckled weakly.

"Yeah, I don't think you've ever felt seasick before, kid. It'll pass, just lay down and don't puke on yourself", joked Lars.

Sean led them to a pleasant inn near the center of Copenhagen. "Father and I stay here whenever we have business in Copenhagen. It is very comfortable. If you want anything, just tell the maid, but be discreet", he said.

"Ja, Herr Mackenzie. How may I help you?", asked the owner, a jolly fat man in black breeches and a brown smock stretched across his ample belly.

"Hello, Herr Swenson. Rooms for myself and my companions", he said.

Mr. Swenson handed him several keys. "You shall three rooms, a separate one for the lady. If you need anything, tell Karen", he said, waddling up the stairs, leading them to their rooms.

"Ah, here are your rooms. Hope you enjoy your stay", he said, leaving them.

"Dave, you and Leif will share a room, Lars and I shall share one, and Miss Tarja gets her own room. Is that satisfactory?", he asked.

"Yeah, Junior and I've shared rooms before. I'm used to it", he chuckled.

Sean handed them the keys, as he and Lars went to their room. Unlike the room in Oslo, it was a large, clean, well-furnished room. Twin beds with matching white quilts were separated by a nightstand with a lamp on top. In the corner was a large fireplace with a stack of wood piled up beside it. The other furnishings consisted of a table and two chairs, both done in the same pine wood.

"This looks pretty good. The other place is a dump compared to this", said Dave, flopping down on the bed. He sighed, the softness under him feeling like a cloud.

"Wow, this is one soft bed. I bet it's got real feathers in it", he murmured.

"Ja, my bed back home has feathers in it. 'Tis very soft, Dave. Why do you keep calling me Junior? It is an odd name", said Leif, lying down on his own bed.

"You look just like David Ellefson, my partner in Megadeth. Since there's two Daves in the band and he's younger, I call him Junior. He's from Minnesota, and he's Norwegian too. I think you'd like him, he's a good kid", he replied.

"He is in America? But where is this Minnesota? The only place I know of in America is Boston, because Herr Mackenzie's ships have sailed there", said Leif.

"Cool. Minnesota's in the Midwest, far from the coast. It's mostly farms and small towns. A lot of Scandinavian and German people live out there. And the chicks there are hot", he cracked.

"I want to see this Minnesota for myself. The farm is going to go to my eldest brother Christian after my father dies. My sisters will all marry and live with their husbands. Perhaps I will join the army or go to sea. I wonder about Jens, how is he doing?", he mused aloud.

"Daniel says he lives on Skye with his wife, Jennet. I hope he's okay", replied Dave.

"What is a Megadeth?", he asked.

"Megadeth's the band I'm in, Junior. We play heavy metal, which is too loud for you. We've played all over the states and we've played Europe and Japan several times", he said proudly.

Leif's eyes went wide. "You must tell me more, Dave", he whispered in awe.

"We got time, Junior", he chuckled.

good chapter!! :dance :)

I liked this part

"Cool. Minnesota's in the Midwest, far from the coast. It's mostly farms and small towns. A lot of Scandinavian and German people live out there. And the chicks there are hot", he cracked.

They also have hunky dudes there that look like Norse love gods.  Alright, I'm being silly.

I love the bonding between Dave and Leif. It's cool to see two dudes from such different times talking and interacting. I loved it when Leif asked what a Megadeth was. It's so cool to see Dave telling him about his modern life and about things like his band.

Sounds like a far nicer place than the last one! It's nice to see Leif so interested, it looks like Dave may well have found a good friend there :) It'll be interesting to hear how he explains everything to Leif as well!

Chapter 126

Meanwhile, Sean and Lars were down by the docks of Copenhagen. The sun shone upon the still waters of the harbor, the shrill cries of the gulls piercing the air. The aroma of tar, leather, and fish hung over them, the scent of the sea.

"We need to find a ship headed to Sweden. If I could use the family's ships, it would be easier", shrugged Sean.

"Ho, are ye lookin' for passage?", asked a burly sailor. He was a rough looking man in stained leather breeches and a sweaty white shirt, his boots worn and dull. His face was as leathery as his breeches, a patch over one eye.

"Ja, sailor. My group and I need passage to Sweden, as far as you can take us", replied Sean.

"Ja, our ship is sailing to Karlskrona in two days. Good?", he asked.

"Very good", he replied.

"And do ye have coin?", asked the sailor.

Sean reached under his shirt and retrieved a small leather pouch. He handed him several gold coins, as the sailor bit them, satisfied.

"Good. Bring your companions and yer supplies two days hence. We sail with the dawn", he said.

"Thank you, kind sir", he replied.

"Karlskrona is in southern Sweden, right?", asked Lars.

"Ja. That is the farthest Danish ships can sail. We go to Stockholm from there, then take another ship to Turku", replied Sean.

"Are ye sailing on the Lady Esme?", asked an unfamiliar voice.

They looked over and saw a young man on a black mare. He was quite short and thin, with cropped curly black hair and dark brown, almost black eyes. His face was dominated by a prominent nose, giving him an almost hawk like appearance. He was dressed in black breeches and a black cloak, his strong, tanned hands holding the reins.

"Ja, sir. We are sailing to Karlskrona", replied Sean.

Damn, that guy looks just like Scott Ian. Who else is gonna show up?, wondered Lars.

"I am sailing to Sweden as well, I have relatives in Stockholm. My father owns a trading house in Copenhagen, and the other branch is in Stockholm. Are ye traders as well?", he asked.

"My father owns Mackenzie-Bergstrom house. I am not here on business, though. We are on our way to visit my sister in Turku", replied Sean.

"I am headed to Finland after I leave Stockholm. Perhaps we shall stick together, there is always safety in numbers", he chuckled.

"Good idea. What is your name?", asked Sean.

"I am Saul Rosenberg, and you are?", he asked.

"I am Sean Mackenzie, and this is Lars Ulrich", he replied.

"Glad to meet you, Herr Mackenzie and Herr Ulrich. I will see you in two days", said Saul, waving goodbye and riding off.

Chapter 127

Two days later, they were at the docks, ready to board. Saul was there with his horse, ready to board himself.

"Is it me, or does that guy look like Scott Ian?", asked Dave.

"Yeah, I think it must be one of his ancestors", replied Lars.

"Hello there, do you have everything for your trip?", asked Saul.

"Ja, Herr Rosenberg. When does the ship sail?", asked Sean.

"We will board shortly. Introduce me to your companions", he chuckled.

"Herr Rosenberg, these are my companions Dave Mustaine, Tarja Vesala, and Leif Holmgren. and this is Saul Rosenberg, he is headed to Finland as well", said Sean.

"Good, there is safety in numbers. You been to Finland before, Saul?", asked Dave.

"Ja, Herr Mustaine. And where are you from? You are not a Dane", he asked.

"I'm from America, but my family's originally from Ireland", he replied.

"I see. My family is originally from Germany, but we fled because of persecution. The Danes are much more welcoming", replied Saul, a hint of bitterness in his voice.

"Why? Are you outlaws?", asked Leif innocently.

"We are traders, Herr Holmgren. My family is Jewish, we settled here fifty years ago. We were chased out of Germany", he explained.

"Like Moses? I remember the story from church. Are you from Isreal?", he asked, his eyes wide.

Saul chuckled, his dark eyes merry. "I will explain everything later. You do not seem to dislike Jews, unlike many Christians", he said.

"Time for boarding", a sailor told them.

Saul dismounted his horse, as they led the horses below the hold, then going on deck.

"How long is this gonna take?", muttered Dave.

Lars asked one of the sailors and faced him. "About two or three days", he replied.

"Fuck, I hope I don't get seasick", he groaned.

"Don't worry, the Baltic Sea is very calm, like a big lake. You can sleep the whole time if you want", said Lars reassuringly.

"So Saul, how many times you've been to Sweden?", asked Dave.

"Many times. I make at least two or three trips per year. This is my last trip for the year, then the snows start. My father and older brothers manage the business end, but I inspect our offices in Stockholm and Turku. I prefer the open road, meeting new people, catching up with friends, seeing new things. My favorite places are Vaxjo, Jonkoping, and Stockholm. I have relatives in Stockholm, and I am courting a girl there. By next year, we should be able to wed", he said, his cheeks flushed pink.

"Hey, congratulations. I've been to Stockholm a lot of times, beautiful city, beautiful girls. Of course, I'm married, so no girls for me", joked Lars.

"You better not, dipshit. I've seen Stockholm a few times, nice place. Been a while since I've been there", said Dave thoughtfully.

Leif's eyes were wide. "Herr Rosenberg, you have seen so much. I have only been to Bergen twice", he murmured.

Saul chuckled, putting an arm around his shoulders. "You are going to travel a lot, my boy. You can tell your family all about the things you have seen", he chuckled.

"Yes, Herra Holmgren. But do not get carried away, we need to arrive in Turku before the winter", admonished Tarja.

So they did find Scott Ian's ancestors! :P :D

I love how just in the middle of things, you'll make someone like Dave use the word "dipshit" It's so fun to read the proper prose of the 18th century people and then have a few "fucks" and "shits" thrown in. You keep the balance up very well, and I like how even though he's been transported through the perils of time you keep Dave still in character. He's become sweeter, he loves one woman, and he doesn't drink so much but you still have kept him Dave, and his character traits so that really rocks! :horns:

This is the town where they land: Karlskrona

Chapter 128

The Lady Esme arrived in Karlskrona two days later. It had been a simple, uneventful voyage, the sea calm like a lake.

"We dock soon. Are you going further inland?", asked the captain.

"Ja, we go overland to Stockholm, captain", replied Sean.

"Good luck on your journey, then", he said, as he directed his men to prepare the ship for docking.

The town slowly came into view. It was rather small, groups of houses clustered onto several small islands. On the mainland was a large ringed fort, the towers easily the highest point of the town.

"Follow my lead. Do not speak unless spoken to directly. And behave yourselves", said Sean.

"What are they gonna do? We're not criminals", said Dave.

"The Swedish government does not like Norwegians or Danes. Keep quiet and behave", said Saul.

The ship docked as the sailors unloaded the cargo. Saul led the horses out of the hold, as he mounted and they followed suit.

"There are a few towns between here and Stockholm, so we can find supplies and shelter if need be", he said.

They all followed him out of the town. No one took notice of them, thinking they were just more travelers. The town itself quickly gave way to open farmland and small forests, passing the occasional house. The fields were brilliant yellow with rapeseed, the golden color shimmering under the sun. The forests with their green leaves provided a vivid contrast, like an emerald in a golden setting.

"Wow, that sure is yellow. What is that, sunflowers?", asked Dave.

"It is rapeseed, it is used to make oil. Those flowers are in bloom. Father tells me that in Scotland, the sides of the hills are covered in heather, and it all turns purple in the fall", mused Sean aloud.

"I've seen fields like this in Denmark, except it's wheat. Gorgeous too. Then again, this whole landscape reminds me of Denmark", said Lars thoughtfully.

"Soon we will reach the forests of Smaland. The forests there are so thick, the sun does not shine through. The local peasants say talking animals and fairies live there", Saul chuckled.

"My grandmother says that trolls live in the mountains and under bridges. She said if you want to please them, offer them porridge, or do something for t hem. If not, they put a curse on you", said Leif.

"Oh, like Three Billy Goats Gruff? Mom used to tell me that when I was a kid. I didn't know trolls lived in the mountains, or that they ate porridge", replied Lars.

"We have trolls in Finland as well, they do chores if you feed them. If not, they bring bad luck", said Tarja.

Several hours later, the fields gave way to a deep forest. It was a dense, thick, heavy forest, the dark green leaves overhead almost blotting out the sun. Only a few rays of yellow sunlight peeked forth, like a gauzy veil.

The only sounds were of the horses hooves and the wagon wheels. Eerie shadows flickered in the dimness, as though the forest was haunted. Occasionally, a rabbit bounded out of the way, or a bird flew overhead.

"How long until we reach a town?", asked Lars, trying not to sound frightened.

"In a bit, we should arrive at the inn, near the village of Norrkrona. I know the owner and can negotiate a good price", chuckled Saul, as they rode on.

The part with Leif and the trolls made me laugh so hard.

I haven't thought about the Three Billy Goat's Gruff in ages. What a blast from the past.

And that's for the wikipedia link on Karlskrona. I always love the background info.
