Chapter 129 That evening, as Saul had promised, they came upon the inn. It was easily the largest building they'd seen since Karlskrona. The building stood three storeys high, made of stone with a wooden roof covered in slate shingles. The courtyard had several wagons, coaches and horses parked outside, their owners inside the building. "Welcome back, Herr Rosenberg. And are these your companions?", asked a groom. Saul jumped off the horse, shaking his hand. "Ja, those are my companions. we would like rooms, baths, and a hot meal. We have journeyed from Karlskrona", he said. "Ja, go inside. Herr Nystrom will be glad to see you again", said the groom, leading the horses to a stable. "Fancy place. I didn't know they had hotels like this back then", said Lars. "I stay here when I travel through Sweden. My father knows the owner, and it is a very pleasant place, and the ale and food are good as well", chuckled Saul. They entered the inn. The foyer led into a large room, another door leading to the main common room. A large fat man in breeches and a leather apron walked over to them, shaking Saul's hand. "Ja, Herr Rosenberg. I see you have a party with you. Astrid will lead you to your rooms. I will instruct the servants to bring you baths. Dinner will be served in three hours", he said. "Tack, Herr Nystrom", he replied graciously. A teenaged girl came over to them. She was tall and buxom, blond braids hanging almost to her waist. "God Natt. Please follow me", she said, leading them upstairs. "Here are your rooms. If you need anything, ask", she said, discreetly leaving. "Leif, I caught you staring at her ass. You think she's hot?", teased Dave. Leif turned beet red. "Ja, ja, she is very nice", he stammered. "We gotta hook you up with a hot chick, Leif", chuckled Lars. "That we do. Anyway, same arrangements as last time. What about you, Saul? Do you wish to have a room for yourself?", asked Sean. "I shall keep watch over the Lady Tarja, if you do not mind", he replied. "Good. Remember, dinner is in three hours. Do not get drunken, we do not need the trouble", said Sean. "Okay. Let's go chill out for a bit, Leif", said Dave, entering their room. |

I love it when you write Herr Rosenberg. It makes me smile. I wonder if Leif will score with that Astrid chick. I like it how Dave noticed right away that he was staring at her ass. Leave it to Dave to notice that.

Chapter 130 Dave and Leif entered the room and closed the door. It was much like the room in Copenhagen, if a bit larger. "Not bad at all. I used to think hotels back then were gross, but this is nice", chuckled Dave, sitting down on the bed. "Ja, Dave. I have only stayed in one hotel before this trip. My father and I made a pilgrimage to the cathedral in Trondheim. It was very dirty, a rat tried to eat my sock while I was sleeping", said Leif, making a face. "Fucking gross. I've stayed in cheap motels where they charge by the hour, where you could hear crack whores and their johns getting it on. Those chicks were so gross, you couldn't pay me to fuck them", he joked. "There were whores in that hotel as well. They were fat and toothless, and smelled worse than goats", shuddered Leif. "Some things never change", he muttered. Just then, there was a knock on the door. Leif got up and answered it. Astrid entered the room, followed by several girls with buckets of steaming water, towels, and soap. The girls poured the water into the wooden tub, the steam billowing in the room. "Okay, who goes first?", asked Dave. "You go. When you are finished, holler. I shall be outside", said Leif, leaving the room with the girls. It doesn't look too bad. I'll just be quick, he thought, getting undressed and sinking into the tub. The water was quite hot, and he felt as though he were in a hot tub. Not bad at all, being on a horse all day is tiring, he chuckled to himself, finding a brush and soap, washing himself. Dave quickly bathed, not wanting the water to get too cold. I'd like to linger, but Junior needs a bath too. And maybe he'll hook up with Astrid, he needs to get laid, he chuckled, wrapping a towel around his body. Dave quickly got dressed, feeling much better now. He opened the door, smiling when he saw Leif with Astrid. She giggled at something he said, as he beamed with pride. Leif heard the door open and turned around. "You are finished, Dave?", he asked reluctantly. "Yeah, it's your turn, Junior", he chuckled. "I will get the water for you, Herr Holmgren", said Astrid, a flirtacious smile on her lips. |

Someone is going to get lucky. Dude- you wrote the part about the cheap hotels just marvelous. I've been to hotels like that, and you have them down perfectly. I love the bonding between Dave and Leif. They come from two different worlds, and two different times yet they can still bond over nasty hotels. This part was brilliant "Some things never change", he muttered. Awesome!

Chapter 131 After they had finished bathing, Dave and Leif went downstairs to the main room. It was half-full, several large round tables occupied by groups of people. The waitresses scurried to and fro, serving food and drink on one side of the hall. On the other side was a small dais, a group of musicians tuning their instruments. Sean waved when he saw them, as they walked over to the table. "Sit down, gentlemen", he said. "Thanks for saving us a seat, Sean", replied Dave, as they sat down. "Not a problem. This is a very large hall, do not get drunk and attract attention", he warned. "We know that already. I hope they have something else besides milk", he muttered. "They have tea and coffee as well. But their ale is wonderful. Why do you not drink ale?", asked Saul, puzzled. "I get really fucked up when I drink. I get mad and do stupid things", he said bitterly. "Oh, I am sorry. I did not know that. One of my uncles is like that", he said sheepishly. "Hey, that's all right", replied Dave graciously. Just then, one of the waitresses came over to their table. She was tall and slim, blond braids falling to her waist. She was dressed in a white long-sleeved top embroidered with colorful yarn and a red wool skirt, sturdy black shoes on her feet. "Hello, lady and gentlemen. I am Frida, your server. May I get you drinks?", she asked. "Three ales, and two coffees", replied Sean. Frida curtsied, going towards the kitchen. "Who do you think is hotter, her or Astrid?", teased Dave. Leif turned bright red, as everyone chuckled. "Ja, they are both nice", he mumbled. "Hey, you're a little Casanova, Leif. Go on, you don't get if you don't ask", joked Lars. Frida arrived with their drinks. "And what will you have to eat?", she asked. "The special for everyone", said Sean politely. "I will be back shortly", she said, walking towards the kitchen. |

First of all, After they had finished bathing... Damn! What a way to start a chapter. And Leif does seem to be the little cassanova. I wonder who's going to be the lucky lady. Maybe he'll have both. Just kidding. Lars was right though. You don't ask, you don't get.

Chapter 132 While they were eating, the band on the dais began to play. They played a lively folk tune, as several couples got on the floor and began to dance. "Is it me, or does that song sound like ABBA?", asked Dave, tapping his foot to the melody. "A lot of ABBA's music was based on Swedish folk music. Yeah, that sounds almost like Waterloo", said Lars thoughtfully. "Who or what is ABBA?", asked Sean. "ABBA's a popular Swedish musical group. They were big when we were kids, I used to think Agnetha was hot", said Lars, his cheeks pink. "I can't believe you listened to ABBA, Ulrich", teased Dave. "Hey, you forget I'm Danish. Mom's a huge fan, and I grew up with this stuff", he retorted. Leif didn't hear them, for his gaze was riveted on Astrid. She had changed into a tight purple dress, her hair in loose waves to her waist. She caught his eye, giving him a flirtacious smile. Dave saw them and chuckled. "Go for it, Junior", he said, giving him the thumbs up. "Aye, go for it, Leif. What have you got to lose?", asked Sean, putting a hand on his shoulder. Astrid strolled over to their table, a seductive gleam in her eyes. "De onsker till danse?", she asked huskily. Leif turned deep red, his cheeks flushed with embarassemnt. "Ja, ja, very much", he stammered. "Go for it, Junior", said Dave, pushing him towards her. She grinned excitedly, grabbing his arm and leading him onto the dance floor. His face was still bright red, as she grinned saucily, leading him in the dance. "Looks like Junior's getting lucky", chortled Dave. "Good for him. I shall have to wait until I marry. Her parents would be appalled if we had relations", said Saul. "Her parents are strict? That sucks", commented Lars. "No, it is against our religion, we are not allowed. I am still a virgin", he replied, blushing. "Oh, okay. Don't worry, waiting makes it better", chuckled Lars. Meanwhile, Leif was dancing with Astrid. He was feeling more comfortable, actually enjoying himself. Astrid grinned up at him, a gleam in her blue eyes. Suddenly, she leaned over and kissed him, catching him off-guard. His eyes were still wide open, as she kissed him. "Go Junior!", hollered Dave, as everyone laughed. Leif beamed with pride, as the crowd cheered. "Later", she whispered, stroking his hair. "You're gonna get lucky, kid. Congratulations", cracked Lars, slapping him on the back. "Ja, is it nice?", he asked innocently. Lars burst into laughter. "Kid, it's better than nice. And Astrid's gonna like it too", he joked suggestively, as Leif turned beet red. Dave looked on, a bland expression on his face. I said the same thing to Junior when he got lucky. I miss the little fucker. Bridget, I hope you're all right, he mused sadly. |

So Astrid is the lucky lass. That was so funny when Leif asked Lars if "it is nice" and Lars tells him that it's better than nice, and Astrid is going to like it too. Lars, Lars, Lars.Poor Dave though. The end with him missing Bridget was a nice touch. I hope he can find her soon.

This is the lake mentioned in the chapter: Lake Malaren Chapter 133 Two Weeks Later "Finally, no more fucking trees", muttered Lars. "I know, I was getting sick of trees. I had never seen so many trees in Norway", said Leif. "Yeah, but you got lucky, you little bastard", joked Dave, as Leif blushed. "My uncle's house is located on Sodermalm Island. We must get on the ferry, it is very pleasant", chuckled Saul. Lake Malaren spread out before them, a vision after the monontony of the forest. The lake was more long than wide, studded with innumerable tiny islands. Most of them were bare rock, but some were larger enough to support grass, flowers, and even trees. "Where's Stockholm, though?", asked Dave. "The city is further to the east. We are on the western edge of the lake", replied Saul, grabbing the reins of his horse and riding towards the dock. A large flat-bottomed boat lay tethered to the dock, bobbing up and down on the water. A rough looking man in leather breeches and a flannel shirt hailed them. "Ho, ye need a ride to Stockholm?", he asked. "Ja, Herr Nordgren. We have business in the city", replied Saul. "Come aboard", he said, reaching out his hand. Saul handed him several coins, as he bit them, satisfied they were real gold. The group and their horses boarded the ferry. Lars looked dubiously at the ark-like boat. I hope we make it to Stockholm in one piece, this boat doesn't look too seaworthy, he thought. "Do not worry, Herr Ulrich. Herr Nordgren's boat is seaworthy, nothing will happen", replied Saul. Mr. Nordgren untied the boat from it's moorings, as it set off for the city. It was slow, as the boat moved lazily across the lake. The islands grew larger the farther east they went, with more greenery and even a few houses. The settlements gradually grew larger, until they were on the outskirts of the city itself. The tall spires of the churches reached towards the sky, a welcome relief after being around so many trees. "We're almost there. I wonder what Stockholm looks like now?", mused Lars aloud. "It'll still be a beautiful city. I always liked touring here, great people and a helluva lot cleaner than LA", joked Dave. "Ja, I have always like Stockholm myself. My intended lives here. I wish to visit her", replied Saul, a dreamy smile on his lips. "Cool, good for you. Is she Swedish or Jewish, though?", asked Lars. "Her family has known ours for generations. Her father is Jewish, and her mother is the daughter of a wealthy Swedish merchant", he explained. "We shall be docking shortly. Enjoy your stay in Stockholm", said Mr. Nordgren, steering the ferry towards the harbor. |

Lake Malaren looks beautfiul. Wow. What a gorgeous picture, just what I need to start off my day. I love the thought of Lars and Dave on a ferry. I could just picture it as it moved "lazily across the lake." I hope after this long-ass journey that they find Bridget soon and that she's okay. MORE Soon??? |

These are the places mentioned in this chapter: Gamla Stan Sodermalm Chapter 134 Mr. Nordgren docked the ferry at the harbor. It was half-full, mostly other ferries and a few cargo ships. Sailors unloaded cargo, as passengers got off the ferries. They ranged from families to beggars to wealthy tradesmen and aristocrats. "Follow me, Sodermalm is south of here", said Saul, as they got on their horses and followed him. He led them from the harbor to Gamla Stan. All about them, Stockholm teemed with humanity: beggars, drunks, workers, sailors, aristocrats in fancy carriages, merchants, and prostitutes. "Gamla Stan hasn't changed much since I last been here", said Lars. "Yeah, except it's more crowded. Oh well, it still looks good", replied Dave. The elegant orange and yellow brick houses towered over them, as they rode through the streets. People walked or rode alongside them, the traffic almost suffocating. "We cross the bridge onto Sodermalm island. My uncle's house is on Malarstrand, right on the lake. My fiance lives on Lundagaten", said Saul, a flush on his cheeks. "Hey, you wanna see her again? Cool", chuckled Lars. They crossed the bridge from Gamla Stan too Sodermalm. The craggy cliffs of the island were studded with numerous wooden houses, the towers of the fortress right on top of them, looking upon the city. "Are there soldiers there?", asked Leif, his eyes wide. "Ja, but do not worry. Our house is on the lake, follow me", replied Saul, leading the way. The street of Sodermalararstrand hugged the shore of the lake. A slight breeze was in the air, a welcome relief after the warmth of the city itself. Small waves rushed past them, greenish gray water capped by tiny white crests. Seagulls flew overhead, crying out plaintively. Saul stopped in front of a large three-story wooden house. The back of the house faced the lake, the front facing inland. In front of the house was a large porch with a swing covered in embroidered cushions. A fat white Persian cat with a pink lace collor napped under the swing. On either side of the house were two apple trees, their boughs heavy with apples turning red. Saul got off the horse, climbing onto the porch. The cat opened it's eyes, then closed them again, going back to sleep. He took hold of the enormous door knocker and slammed it against the door. A short, middle-aged man opened the door. He was dressed in a black robe with black trousers, his gray curly beard almost to his chest. He wore a yarmulke over his thinning black hair, his dark eyes sharp. The man's face lit up when he saw him, embracing Saul. "Mazel Tov, nephew. What brings you to Stockholm?", he aked. "I have come for a visit, Uncle Jacob. And I have traveled with companions. We all need rooms, we sail for Turku in several days", he replied. Jacob saw the group and smiled. "Of course, there is plenty of room. come in, the maid will make tea", he said. The group dismounted, as the groom led their horses to the stable. "Uncle Jacob, these are my companions Sean Mackenzie, Leif Holmgren, Lars Ulrich, Dave Mustaine, and Tarja Vesala. And this is my uncle, Jacob Rabinowitz", he said. "Welcome to Stockholm. You may stay as long as you would like. Any friend of Saul's is a friend of mine. Let me introduce you to my family", said Jacob, leading them to the parlor. A maid set out a pot of tea and a platter of tiny sandwiches, cookies and cakes. A middle-aged woman entered the room, along with a teenaged boy and girl. "Deborah, these are friends of Saul's, they are on their way to Turku. This is my wife Deborah, our son Aaron, and our daughter Judith", he said. "Very glad to meet you. You came all the way from Copenhagen?", asked Aaron. He was small for his age, wearing a severe black suit. His black curls framed a long, thin face, dominated by soft brown eyes and a prominent nose. "Yeah, it's great not to see any more trees", joked Lars. "Papa says he is going to take us to Copenhagen", said Judith excitedly. Like her brother, she was short and slim, with curly black hair and round brown eyes. "Lena shall lead you to your rooms after you have refreshed yourselves. Dinner will be in several hours", said Deborah, pouring everyone a cup of tea. |

Those pictures were GORGEOUS, especially Gamla Stan. Wherever do you find them? I loved your description of the hustle-bustle of Stockholm. It was very very very well done. I also loved the Persian cat napping under the swing. What a great place to hang out. Actually, the house sounded quite nice. I wish I could stay there. And the thought of Lars and Dave eating tea sandwiches has made my entire weekend. Now whenever I see a tea sandwich I will always smile.
