Wow. Thank you sooooo much. Today was most wonderful. but y'all's comments made it even better.Rae- Wow. You moshed just for me. Thank you! You're a brave soul. I would have gotten my ass kicked for sure because I'm a pussy. How did your hair turn out?? You must send me pictures. Maggie- Thank you sooo much for reading. I threw in one more hair flip in the afterword just for you. For old time's sake.Vanessa- Thanks for convincing me to post this one and reading it at first in the beginning. I felt like it started out kind of slow, so thanks for bearing with it. I'll have to decide whether or not I'll post another fic. I have an idea for one, but it would be a silly one like the animal shelter one. I need something silly. Maisy- Thanks for getting all caught up. It's a lot. I'm not good at short fictions. I also had a rough time with this one because parts of it were serious, and I'm not a very serious writer. Anyway, here's just a little afterword blurb. It's nothing much, and you don't have to read it if you dont want to. Afterword September 1992 Jackson hurriedly unplugged his bass out of Cliff’s practice amp, and hastily began to roll up the cable. As he did so, he snuck a quick glance out the window which overlooked the backyard. He saw her. She was there out on the back deck, her nose stuffed in a book. The very sight of her caused the cable to fumble between his fingers. “You checking out my daughter again?” Cliff asked. Even though he had snuck off to the corner of the room to smoke a quick cigarette in between students, he had caught Jackson giddily trying to glance out the window without anybody noticing. “Um…well,” he stammered as he turned red, and looked back down at his bass case. “Maybe just a little,” he said. “I know that rolling up an amp cable ain’t that difficult,” replied Cliff. “No sir, it’s not,” answered Jackson. He stuffed the cable into the side pocket of his bass case. Cliff took a drag on his cigarette as he watched Jackson. It tasted like a piece of heaven. Since Cliff had gone back to school, he didn’t get to smoke as often as he wanted to, because he couldn’t smoke during his classes, which he found out the hard way when his professor confiscated a brand spanking new pack of them on the first day of class. On Tuesdays Cliff had four classes all in a row, which meant close to six hours straight with no nicotine fix. It was brutal, so Aunt Josephine had put him on the patch again. Fortunately he could sneak in a quick cigarette fix in between his students. He noticed Jackson again looking at the window, and then nearly tripping over an amplifier. Jackson hadn’t been kidding when he had said in his letter that he had been practicing bass a lot. The kid had improved immensely over the summer, and even Cliff was quite impressed. “You can go talk to her,” he said finally as he reached for the ashtray that was buried on his desk, under a stack of random papers. “Talk to who?” Jackson asked. “The Easter Bunny,” shot Cliff. “Cecily of course.” “Oh,” replied Jackson. He gave another quick glance over his shoulder, towards the window. “She probably hates me,” he said sadly. “You know… for what I did by writing you that letter.” “She was pretty pissed,” Cliff admitted. He flicked some ashes off of the cigarette. “But no matter what you do, women are always going to get pissed off at you at some point. It’s their job.” “When she wrote to me, she begged me not to tell anyone,” said Jackson. “But I felt like I had to. It wasn’t fair to you.” “You trying to score brownie points?” Cliff asked. “No sir,” Jackson shook his head. “I was also honestly worried about Cecily. She faints and stuff. I didn’t want her to faint and be all alone with no one.” He looked shyly up at Cliff. “Do you think that she would even speak to me?” he asked. Cliff looked thoughtful as he took one last, final, heavenly, puff on his cigarette, and carefully grounded it out in the ashtray. “That my boy,” he replied. “Is something that you’re going to have to find out yourself.” He got up from his chair, and made his way towards the door. “Mr. Burton?” Jackson asked. “Yeah?” said Cliff. He was now standing testily over by the door. He knew that he had another student waiting outside. “If Cecily does decide to talk to me,” Jackson began nervously. “There’s uh…. There’s this dance at my school…I’d like her to go with me. It’s all chaperoned and everything. My mom is even chaperoning. She’d drive us of course… That is, if you would you allow her to go with me.” Cliff looked Jackson from head to toe. His hair had grown longer over the summer and now it definitely reached his shoulders. He needs a haircut, Cliff thought. Damn it. I can’t believe that I of all people just thought that. Fuck. I am getting old. Cliff could recognize the look of desperation that was on Jackson’s face. It was the same look that Cliff had had on his very own face when he had asked Harold if he could see Emily again. He sighed “She can go with you,” he replied finally. Jackson immediately lit up. “But,” Cliff continued firmly. “I’m doing the driving, and I want to be a chaperone as well. I know that I’m being an old and cranky cooter, but I can’t help it. Cecily is very special to me.” “Yes sir,” replied Jackson. “I understand. Thank you so much Mr. Burton. Really, I’m so thankful that you-” “Now go run along before I change my mind!” Cliff interrupted as he opened the door. “I have another student to teach.” Jackson with bass scurried out of Cliff’s studio. This had been the big moment that he had been waiting for. He hadn’t seen or talked to Cecily since he had left White Rock. He had no idea how she felt. Was she still his girlfriend? Was she even going to speak to him? He had purposely told his mom to pick him up a half hour late from his lesson, because he was so hoping that Cecily would still be willing to speak with him. Hildegarde was happily bustling away in the kitchen starting to work on dinner, since things were crazy for both Cliff and Emily with their schedules. She looked up and smiled at Jackson. “Hi there Jackson,” she said kindly. “Would you like anything?” “No Ma’am,” Jackson replied. “Are you looking for Cecily?” she asked. Jackson nodded. “She’s outside on the back deck with a book, waiting for her mom to get home,” replied Hildegarde. “Thank you,” said Jackson. He set his bass down by the glass sliding door, and made his way out to the back deck. Cecily was curled up in an Adirondack chair with her book. Geezer lay at her feet, and Queen Victoria was in her lap. Jackson thought that she looked just as cute as ever in her dark purple sweater and one of her hand crocheted beanie hats. Her long mop of wavy hair hung out from under it, all the way down her back. “Hiya Cecily,” he said nervously. Cecily didn’t even look up from her book. “Cecily?” Jackson said again. Nothing. This was not going the way that he had hoped it would. “Did you have a nice summer?” he asked weakly. “I have nothing to say to you,” Cecily answered, without looking up from her book. Jackson was quiet. He glumly sat down in the chair next to her. “You won’t speak to me at all?” he asked. “Nope,” answered Cecily. “Please?” asked Jackson. “Cecily, could you just give me a second of your time?” “I don’t have a second,” Cecily shot. Jackson got up, and grabbed the book To Kill a Mockingbird right out of her hands. “Now you do,” he snapped. He was practically hanging right over her, and Cecily had no choice but to look right at him. With all the rutting around with Mr. Kirk she had did over the summer, she had totally forgotten how “kind of cute” that she had thought Jackson was. His shaggy hair was even longer now, and he seemed even taller. He was dressed in an Iron Maiden T-shirt, and jeans, but unlike Cliff’s they weren’t bellbottoms, and they didn’t have holes in them. If anything, they looked very clean, as if they had just come out of the washing machine. Cecily could even smell the fabric softener on them. “I’m sorry that I told your dad where you were hiding out this summer,” he began. “But I just had to. I was worried about you Cess. You being in that hotel room, all alone without your fainting medicine. I didn’t want you to get hurt.” Cecily sighed. “I just wanted to be sure that my girlfriend was safe,” he added. “That is, if you even are still my girlfriend.” “Would you give me my book back please?” she asked. Jackson handed her the book. “I like you a lot Cecily,” he said shyly. To his disappointment, Cecily ignored him and opened her fucking book back up. “There’s this dance at my school in two weeks on a Friday evening,” he went on. “I’d like you to go with me. You know…as my date… sort of. Your dad would be taking us, since I can’t drive yet. And he’d be chaperoning.” “My dad would be chaperoning at the dance?” Cecily asked. Jackson nodded, his hair falling just a little bit over his hazel eyes. “Oh God,” Cecily groaned. “He’ll wear that stupid cowboy hat and deerskin jacket.” “Hell,” Jackson said with a shrug. “He’s Cliff motherfucking Burton. I’d have Cliff Burton metal bass god, chaperoning my freshman class dance. That’s pretty fucking awesome Cecily. He can wear whatever he wants.” The two were quiet for a few minutes. Cecily was staring down at her book, but she wasn’t reading anything. She ran her fingers over the thin and smooth pages. “Will you go with me?” Jackson asked. “I want my buddies at school to meet you. They don’t believe that you’re really my girlfriend.” “Why not?” asked Cecily. “Because they don’t believe that I could get a girl as cute as you are to like me,” Jackson said, his face turning red. “They’ve never even seen me,” replied Cecily. “I showed them your picture,” Jackson answered. “One that we had taken together at White Rock this past summer.” “They really said that I’m cute?” Cecily asked, in disbelief. “Yeah,” Jackson nodded. “Actually, they said you were hot. Don’t tell your dad though. He’ll have a hissy fit.” Cecily knew that it was rather vain and shallow of her, but she couldn’t help it. Hearing that Jackson’s friends thought that she was “hot” was a hell of a lot better compliment than being told that she was smart or angelically good. She felt all bright and giddy inside. “Will you go with me Cecily?” Jackson asked. He tossed his hair over his shoulder since it was now long enough that he could do that. Cecily felt her heart flutter. Now she knew why Maggie liked it so much when men did that. She looked thoughtful for a moment. Should she give Jackson another chance? Even though he had had good intentions, he still had gone against her wishes. She had trusted him to keep quiet, and he didn’t. But then again, Emily had given her daddy another chance, and Cecily was so fucking happy that she did. She loved having her mom living with them again. Perhaps if Emily could do it, so could she. After all, it wasn’t like Jackson had spent four amazing hours in a hot tub with strippers in Tulsa. Plus, within two weeks she’d have her braces off. It would be nice to go to her first dance with a boy ever without a mouth full of metal. “Cecily?” an anxious Jackson said again. “Alright,” she said. “I’ll go with you.” A small smile crept up on her face. “But only on one condition.” “Whatever you want Cess,” said Jackson, a look of relief settling in on his face. “Well within reason. I don’t have very much money yet, but someday I will when I’m a famous rock star.” “I want control of the car radio there and back,” Cecily said primly. “I’ve been having a hankering for some King Diamond.” |

I have no words! I can't believe this one ended too what will I read further more??? Will I be deprived of my beloved fan fictions? Will Ashley write another one? Am I asking for too much??? I sooo loved the ending! in the first fic,Cliff won, literally, the Father of The Year award and now,Cecily had won the Daughter of The Year award, fictively. It is amazing how someone could come up with such a great novel,a true Picasso painting,in written version! :horns2 I wish you the best with your future fan fics(if you will continue writing, which I really hope so),but also with your musical career. You've done an awesome job with both

I loved the little epilogue. Very, very nice. Jackson sounds pretty darn cute. And Cecily's been called homely most of her life, it's not vain or shallow of her to perk up a bit when someone's referred to her as hott once or twice. So long as she doesn't let it go to her head of course. And yeah, I had a great time at the concert and scored two free t-shirts. It was awesome. There was this crazy band with a dude on steel guitar, a drummer, and a lady playing a washboard. It was fucking nuts. I loved it though, and what an awesome closing to an awesome story. King Diamond is awesome, he was on Metalocalypse two or three times I think. Pretty bad aess. |

Wow wow wow. And a bit more wow. Happy ending! Yay! (Yes i have finally got caught up to the end - I'm at my Dad's place and commandeered his laptop for the evening!). That was just so so amazing, you are so incredibly talented when it comes to writing things like this, it was absolutely amazing. You had humour, drama, emotional shit, and an excellent, excellent ending to the whole shebang. I absolutely wet myself laughing at the bird scene with Cliff after his night drinking, loved the part where he was chasing Emily's dog all over London, and Kirk and his primping and preening before the wedding, not to mention turning his bed into a three ring circus.... all was just so so so amazing! At the rate that Kirk was going, he could have his own Untied Nations. ^^ That part, good god did I laugh at that. I missed reading your story so so much - and now that I've finished this one, I just want more. That's one of the many, many things that make you such a goddamn great writer, I just need more and more of your stories. So there we go, this story was awesome and amazing. There were so so many incredible characters and it took so many crazy twists and turns but still kept flowing. I fully fell in love with it all. Fabulous, absolutely fabulous! In fact, absomotherfuckinglutely fantastic! |
