I read this story in less than a week, and I love it. I can't say too much more right now, because everything's so fresh and jumbled. I will say WOW, your character development is great; aside from a few "Mary Sue" points Charlie is really grounded and fleshed into a great character. Keep up the awesome work, I can't wait to read more.

LOL at the "Mary Sue" comment - the first time (about 8 years ago) I learned what that meant, iI was like "ohhhh yeah. I do that ALL the time". Thing is, it's so much fun! :biggrin

You know, I actually read this again, that's twice since June, because I missed it so much!! And I want to read about Charlie and James getaway in Galway SO bad!!

I have to tell you, one of my favourite parts is the touring and the concert where Charlie is watching from the rigging! But that's ofc in addition to ALL the other scenes that are so vivid I can almost smell it and feel the suspence on my skin!

I want more Charlie and James!!!! Pleeeaaaaase?? *wink*

James came around the side of the truck, holding our luggage.

I stole a sideways glance at him. “Tell me you didn’t buy it...”

He burst out laughing. “No. We just have it for tonight.”

Sliding an arm around his waist, I leaned against him, tilting my head back to take in the entire structure. “It’s really gorgeous.” I looked around, and noticed there were no other cars, no sign of anyone else. “Do we have it all to ourselves?”

“Yeah. You can rent the whole thing, so I figured...why not? Nobody to hear you squealin’ when I tie you to the bedposts and pleasure you all night,” he grinned, hipchecking me. “Wanna go inside?”

I nodded, jogging ahead of him to the huge wooden door. The iron hinges groaned when I pulled the door towards me, holding it open for James to get through with our bags. I followed him in to the warm, softly lit entry way.

“The dining and living rooms are down here, and the bedrooms and the great hall are upstairs,” he said, nodding towards a stone spiral staircase. “Wanna ditch the stuff and then we can walk around the place?”

“Yeah. Did you already make plans for us for dinner?” I was getting kind of hungry.

“Fridge is stocked, I figured I’d whip up something. Or just feast on you,” he added quietly, kissing my neck as he went upstairs.

The bedrooms were all beautifully furnished, and all of them were ready for use. If we chose to, we could have invited the rest of the guys and the entire crew to stay with us. There was so much space. I picked a bright yellow room with a canopy bed, and James placed our bags on the floor. Declining his offer to let me freshen up, I took his hand and we explored the rest of the upper floors, taking in the enormity of the great hall, and the intricate décor and stone work throughout the building.

Climbing a steep set of stairs to the roof, we emerged to find that the sun had almost fully set. A fine mist was falling, and fog was starting to settle in over the water. The whole place looked beautiful and eerie at once.

Leaning back against James, I laid my hands over his when he wrapped his arms around me. “This is lovely. Much better than a hotel.”

Kissing the top of my head, he gave my body a tight squeeze and suggested we go back inside, leaving the outdoor exploration for the next morning. “Why don’t you grab your book. I’ll make a fire, and you can read while I get supper ready,” he said, gently steering me into our bedroom.

I dug through my bag for my paperback, and grabbed a soft cream throw off the bed just in case I got chilly. Even with my jeans and sweater, old stone castles were probably not the warmest of abodes. I flipped through the collection of pamphlets that were carefully arranged on the small writing desk. Apparently there was an ancient church on the grounds, not far from the castle. It wasn’t open to the public, but visitors of the estate were welcome to view it during regular hours. I shuffled the pamphlets into a pile and placed them back on the desk.

Pulling a matching lingerie set in dark purple lace from my bag, I laid it on the bed for later, and made a mental note to find an excuse to send James up to our room before I got there, so he’d see it. Given that our recent encounters had been either in dimly lit surroundings or, well, non-existent, I wanted to take advantage of the big bed, the flattering lighting, and the hours we’d have available to spend on each other.

He was humming and chopping vegetables when I got downstairs. I stood in the open doorway of the kitchen, watching him haphazardly cut carrots into little pieces, flinging broccoli into a pot, wiping his hands on his jeans now and then, all the while keeping a little tune going. It sounded like Motorhead but I couldn’t be sure. He looked over after a minute, a little startled, and then smiled. “Hi. You want some wine? They’ve got a kickass cellar.”

Nodding, I waited while he opened a bottle of white, and accepted the delicate stemless glass he held out to me. “Tempted?” I asked softly, wondering if he was feeling okay about being in such close proximity to alcohol, with nobody there to stop him except me.

“Not today,” he shrugged. He held out a hand, and I took it, letting him pull me against him. “Today all I want is you.”

I buried my face in his t-shirt, inhaling the warm, male scent of his cologne. “All yours, baby,” I smiled.

I curled up in one of the armchairs in the kitchen while he cooked, and we ate in the smaller hall downstairs, after James lit a fire.

The misty rain had subsided. Brewing coffee in the sleek espresso machine on the counter, I suggested to James that he grab a sweatshirt so we could take a little walk. He returned a moment later, a sly grin on his face.

“Nice outfit all laid out up there. That for later?”

“Maybe,” I winked at him.

Following him out into the night air, I tugged the sleeves of my sweater down over my hands, and slid an arm through James’. We walked in silence for several minutes, enjoying the quiet solitude, and eventually came to the small stone church I’d seen in the pamphlets in our room.

“Wanna go in?” James held open the door, and I tiptoed in, almost afraid someone was going to jump out of the dark at me.

The church was empty. I didn’t know what I’d been expecting, maybe some pews, or a pulpit. An ancient organ, perhaps? All that remained was the stone floor, and tiny slits in the walls for windows.

“They must light it with candles,” I said, trailing my fingers along the cool stone walls. At the far end, I could see a stairwell, and I grabbed James’ hand, pulling him behind me to go check it out.
