Chapter 214

Lars was thunderstruck, as he dropped his goblet onto the floor and spilled a free drops of wine on the cream carpet.

Did I just hear that? Olivia is my daughter? Does that mean Elinor was pregnant? Lars closed his eyes, feeling the tears sting. I can't believe it, he thought.

"Lars, I know this is a shock for you, but I have a good hunch. Olivia looks just like Elinor, but she has your eyes. And judging from her age, she was born several months after Elinor left", she said.

"I can't believe it, but she does look just like Elinor. My dad and I have the same color eyes, all the Ulrich's do. Are you sure?", he asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"We're going to have to tell her, but she may not believe us. If she does, she could end up resenting you. After all, you did cheat on her mother", she chided.

"Avery, cheating on Elinor was the dumbest thing I've ever done. It's my punishment that I've never found her or had a lasting relationship. I deserve it", he whispered.

"Don't say that, Lars. If Olivia is your daughter, you can establish a relationship with her, be a father. And I'm sure your father will be glad to have a grandchild", she said.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. Should we tell her tonight?", he asked.

"Not yet, it's going to freak her out. You ought to take her under your wing, be friendly with her. I think Elinor is dead, Lars. She mentioned that her mother died and Linde is her guardian. I'm sorry", she murmured.

"No, no", he whispered, tears filling his eyes.

"I miss her too, Lars. But she never told me where she went, I sent letters to her father's address and they came back. I'm sorry", she said sympathetically.

I'm going to be busy this morning, I'll see if I can update later.

I bet that Lars spilled his wine goblet. :)

I think that Avery's idea for Lars to get friendly with Olivia before telling her is a good one. Olivia doesn't know him, so to just out of the blue find out that he's her dad would probably make her shit herself. But if he establishes a friendlier relationship with her than she might just feel it on her own, or it won't be such a shock, though it probably will still be a shock either way.

I wonder why Elinor excluded Avery out of her life when she left??? Avery was always such a nice friend to her.

Chapter 215

Olivia was surprised when Avery said she wanted to speak with her. I wonder what she wants?, she mused.

The older woman had been so kind to her, almost like a mother. Olivia had a nagging feeling that she knew her, that she was familiar. Lars was always around them as well, acting like a stuttering school boy anytime someone caught them.

I think Mr. Ulrich is sweet on Mrs. Burton. She's so nice and pretty and he's so dashing. I think they'd make a great couple, she giggled.

Avery was in her room, along with Lars. She was dressed casually in jeans and an Iron Maiden t-shirt, her red hair loose around her shoulders. Lars wore a black buttoned-down shirt and black slacks, a solemn expression on his face. For the first time, Olivia noticed his eyes were the same green as hers. That's strange, it must be a coincidence, she mused.

"Hello, Olivia. Please sit down, we need to talk to you. Lars, pour us some wine", said Avery. He nodded and poured them each a glass of red wine before sitting back down.

"What is it, Mrs. Burton?", she asked.

Avery took a deep breath, looking into her glass of wine. "Olivia, I knew your mother, Elinor. We met when we went to the same high school together in El Cerrito, California. Lars was her boyfriend", she said.

"Really? Were you my mother's boyfriend, Mr. Ulrich?", she asked.

"Yeah, Olivia. Elinor was my girlfriend for most of the eighties. She was such a sweet, beautiful girl, I loved her so much. Losing her was the dumbest thing I've ever done. You see, we were recording the black album, it was a long day at the studio. I bought some cocaine and some groupies back to my room. Elinor walked in on us, I'll never forget the look on her face. She left for Sweden after that, I never saw her again", he whispered, tears forming in his eyes.

Olivia's heart skipped a beat. She was born in February of 1991, which meant that...

"Are you my father?", she asked, trying to stay calm.

"I think so, Olivia. It adds up, Elinor left in the fall of 1990, and you were born in February the following year. And you have the Ulrich green eyes, you are my daughter, Olivia", he murmured.

It was too much for the young girl. She fell in a heap on the floor and began to sob uncontrollably, the emotions overcoming her. "After all this time. I cannot believe it, how could you? Why didn't Mama say?", she cried.

Avery embraced her. "I understand, it's quite a shock. We'll have to do the test to make sure, but I'm pretty sure you are Lars' daughter", she said.

"I had no idea, I've been a Metallica fan for years and I had no idea", she murmured.

"I can't wait for you to meet my dad, he's going to be thrilled. He'd love to know he has a granddaughter", said Lars.

"Mr. Ulrich, are you sweet on Mrs. Burton?", she asked.

Both Lars and Avery blushed furiously at her words. "We're just good friends", he mumbled.

Poor Lars blushing like a school boy.   That chapter was very dramatic. That's a lot of information for Olivia to process and take in. Lars has a lot of making up to do if it turns out that he is her father. So are they going to all go on the Maury show for paternity testing now?

I like Avery pouring everybody wine. She's like "Olivia, I'm going to tell you who your long lost father is, but have some wine first." In Black Friday Rule she seemed so proper getting Cliff to go to church, and now she's turned into quite the wine connoisseur.     This story totally rocks Vanessa, and it made me chill out for a few minutes so thank you for that.

It cracks me up that even after she found out Lars is her dad, she still called him Mr. Ulrich! How sweet :)

Chapter 216

"Mr. Ulrich, Miss Lindstrom, we are going to do the blood test to determine if you are the father", said the technician at the clinic.

Avery smiled reassuringly at them. "It'll only take a wee bit of time, at least you'll know for sure", she said kindly.

Lars returned the smile, but his heart pounded in anticipation. It would be awesome if Olivia were my daughter, but I should've never cheated on Elinor. That was the biggest mistake of my life, he thought.

The phlebotomist led them to an office at the clinic. She set out several thin yellow tubes and needles on the table, along with gauze pads, wipes, and cotton balls. "Mr. Ulrich, please make a fist and give me your arm", she said.

Lars made a fist as she wrapped a tourniquet around his arm and opened a package of wipes and cleaned the crook of his arm. She inserted the tube into a plastic holder, the needle and hose attached to the tube. "Don't move" she warned, carefully inserting the needle into the vein.. He winced at the slight pain, the deep red blood traveling through the hose and into the tube filling it to the brim. The phlebotomist gently took out the needle and disposed of it in a plastic box, putting a Band-Aid on the wound.

"I will do the same for you, Miss Lindstrom", she said kindly. She took a sample of blood from Olivia, the blood so red against the very fair skin of her arm.

"Since you're not going to be in town, I will call you from you cell phone with the result", she said as they got up.

"Man, I haven't gotten my blood drawn since I was a kid. Back then, they had really big needles", shuddered Lars.

"Aye, I remember. I had to get all these shots before I came to the states with my parents. Luckily we don't have those now", she chuckled.

Why don't they admit it already? There's definetly something going on between them, thought Olivia.

"We don't' have a show tonight, why don't we all go out for dinner. You deserve it for being troopers", Avery chuckled.

"Kiitos madam, but Linde and Manna are taking me out tonight", said Olivia.

"That's okay then. It'll be just the two of us, Avery, if you don't mind", he said. Lars couldn't help but feel Olivia was trying to hook them up. Naughty girl, I think she knows, he mused.

"All right then, I hope you have a good time, Olivia. I'll meet you downstairs in the lobby around seven", she said.

"No, I'll pick you up in your room, Avery. It wouldn't be gallant otherwise", said Lars.

Avery felt her heart flutter at his words. It's been so long, she thought.

Lately, she'd been wanting to spend time with Lars. She'd always liked hanging with him, thinking of him as a friend. But now she had been contemplating that there was something else going on.

But he was Cliff's friend, and he's my friend. We are not teenagers, we are adults. But Cliff did want me to find someone, is this a sign?, she wondered.

That chapter was sweet. :) I hate needles though and will go to great lengths to try and avoid them. I can't wait until they get the results. If it turns out that Olivia is Lars's daughter, he's going to have to make up for lost time. I also hope that he doesn't hold a grudge against Elinor who kept the secret from him. Technically, Lars had a right to know about his kid. This is turning into quite the awesome, and badass, soap opera, and that's what I love reading it. :D The suspense is killing me. :horns:

Chapter 217

"This is only a casual dinner date, Lars is my friend. He'll not try anything", Avery muttered as she got dressed.

She'd been feeling giddy as a schoolgirl since this afternoon. Avery had taken special care of her appearance, carefully doing her hair and makeup and even getting a manicure from the beauty parlor downstairs.

Just relax, you and Lars have gone out before, she reminded herself. Avery took a deep breath and put on her dress, looking at herself in the mirror.

She wore a simple, elegant royal blue satin gown with a halter top, her coppery hair in a knot with several loose curls around her face. A hint of pink rouge showed off her high cheekbones, her full lips with a creamy pink gloss. Her blue eyes shone with subtle pale green highlights as she took a deep breath to steady herself.

Several minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Lars was on the other side, holding a bouquet of pale pink roses. His green eyes widened in appreciation as he handed her the flowers.

"Let's go, Avery. I made reservation at this great French place, I thought you'd like it", said Lars, taking her hand.

Avery tried to control the flush creeping up her neck. His rough, calloused hand felt warm against her slim one, a frisson of excitement coursing through her.

Lars tried to stifle his smile when he saw the pink flush on her cheeks. I don't want to embarrass her, I don't think she's been on a date since Cliff died, and she looks so beautiful tonight, he thought. Avery looked lovely in the blue satin, which went well with her fair skin and coppery red hair.

Shane was in the hotel bar nursing a beer and reading Lovecraft. He looked up when he saw them, a puzzled look on his face.

"Uncle Lars, are you banging my mom?", he asked.

Avery turned a bright shade of red, while Lars pretended to glare at his nephew. "Shane, you made your mother blush. We're just going out", he chided.

"All right, but I don't need to hear you guys. Don't forget to take your Viagra", he joked.

"That sounds like something Cliff would've said. He is definitely Cliff's son", he chuckled.

"I know, that's what everyone says. Lars, what if something happens? I don't want this to jeopardize our friendship", she said nervously.

"Avery, we'll still be friends no matter what. I won't hurt you, I swear. I was so immature with Elinor. I know better now", he said solemnly.

Throughout the dinner, Lars was on edge, trying to stay calm. Avery looked so beautiful to him, the air thick with sexual tension. I haven't felt like this since I was with Elinor. I'm acting like a randy kid, he thought, scowling.

"Are you all right, Lars?", she asked, concern in her blue eyes.

Lars looked her straight in the eye, the intensity in them almost frightening. "Avery, you are so beautiful. I am of a mind to drag you back to the hotel and fuck you senseless", he hissed, his green eyes glowing with lust.

Avery's heart pounded in her ears, her cheeks turning pink. Did he really mean that? A warm feeling grew in her belly, a slow smile growing on her lips.

"That's a good idea, Lars", she replied, her blue eyes merry.

"Well, what are we waiting for?", he asked, signaling for waiter.

Lars better behave himself and not do to Avery what he did to Elinor. Shane should be reading baby books in the bar.    There was this couple I knew that had a baby and they lived in an apartment over this bar. They used to put the baby to bed and then go down to the bar and they'd take their baby monitor along and set it right on the bar. I could see Shane doing that.
