Thank you, guys!! :huggie: It is much appreciated (and thanks, Carla, especially - you did encourage me to post here in the first place - but still I think there are other better writers out there than me!!!!)

Here is the next part.

PART TWELVE.

Before leaving the room, I picked up a shirt belonging to Rob, one with as little blood on it as possible, before taking it with me. Kirk sent me a questioning look, but I only sent him a mental image of us using it for Rob's scent, to track him with. Kirk smiled and nodded out his understanding, the mental link between us growing stronger with each passing minute, strong enough now for us to pass messages between us with next to no problems.

"What do you need Rob's shirt for, Shannyn?" James then asked the inevitable, with the most curious expression on his face.

"You'll see," Kirk said, and all I could see in his mind now was thoughts of resignation.

I think he saw now that we could not kep up the pretence of humanity up forever, much less now, when it looked like our newfound powers were going to come into their own. There was way to explain this to a human, and still remain human in their eyes. Our vampire selves would have to be exposed and remain in the open, for this to work.

Surprisingly, this did not bother me, nor scare me as it should. I was proud to be a vampire, to have Kirk as the one who'd turned me, and to hide my true self to others, was like denying myself my own true nature, in a way. I hated denial in all it's forms - I found it only bred mistrust, and fear to a certain extent.

"We'd best get started," Kirk said, quietly, looking tense, yet curiopusly excited, by what was happening.

I knew the reason for his tension, his excitement, because I could well identify with it - the thrill of the hunt was calling me, of running through the night air after a target, but till, the memory remained that it was Rob we were essentially hunting, a band mate, a friend, a colleague. The tension was there because what would happen if we didn't just stop at just bringing him back? What if the thrill of the chase and the scent of blood drove us too far? What if we could not curb our vampiric tendencies enough to simply return him to James as we should.

This we would have to try and deal with when we actually got to that stage - all we needed to worry about at this point in time was just to track Rob. After all, we had no clue as to where he had gone, where he was heading to and what he was planning to do once he got there. I wasn't even sure he was even Rob any more - something in my gut was telling me that he wasn't.

I looked to Kirk again, before a nod passed between us and we set out on the hunt for Rob.

I called over my shoulder to James - "Whatever you do, try to keep up with us. We may need your help when the time comes. Whatever you do, stop us from harming Rob, in any way you see fit."

"WHAAAAAAT?" James asked, looking horrified by what I was telling him to do. "You're not asking me to - KILL you - are you? You're not are you?"

"I do not think anything you can do can harm us seriously, James, as long as you do not intend us serious harm. Avoid the heart area and sharp wooden stakes if you can, please," Kirk said, ominously, before turning once again to leave.

This time James said nothing, probably remndered speechless by what Kirk had just said. After all, Kirk had given him an even bigger insight into what we truly were with just one statement.

I followed Kirk, pressing Rob's shirt to a sudden;y sensitive nose, breathing in the scent of all that was Rob. I handed the shirt to Kirk, who sniffed it also, while i sniffed the air, then the ground in the corridor outside Rob's room. I could actually smell where Rob had passed, heading away from us down the corridor, heading, if I remembered right, for the front door, to the outside, to freedom.

"My God!! He's gone outside!!!" I said, horrified, for some reason I couldn't immediately explain.

"Let's go. And bring him back .... in one piece!" Kirk said, before heading off at a swift run down the corridor.

I followed him, easily keeping up with him, even with his longer legs, his longer stride, my vampiric prowess making it easy for me to match pace with him. I could hear James behind us, huffing and puffing already as he tried to keep up, but I could tell he was struggling. He was no match for a pair of speedy vampires, being only a mere human. Seemed funny to me now already to think that I was but a mere mortal only a short time before. Funny how I did not miss my humaity at all. I liked being a vampire too much, with all it's hidden perks and added extras that being human just didn't give you. I felt powerful .... like a god amongst sheep ... higher up the evolutionary ladder than mere humans ...

I stopped that train of thought dead in its tracks, forcing myself to concentrate on the task at hand. After all, we had Rob to find, to bring back alive and in one piece. I only that no harm came to him, either from unknown outside forces, or from himself, or, God forbid, from Kirk and I. ...

We hit the fresh air of outside at a run, and I felt the damp humid air hit me full in the face like the biggest slap, and it was only when I'd ran past my car, several meters away that I realized that the storm had finally broken .... leaving behind only dampness and humidity and the brightest full moon hanging in the sky like the shiniest coin ....

I snarled at that moon without even thinking, without even fully knowing or understanding why, before I heard, from afar, the baying of hounds, the howling of the wolf, and caught the scent of Rob in the air, heading south, downhill, away from the mansion.

Kirk had heard the hounds, the wolf, too, for he flashed me grin in the mooonlight, silvery light catching his fangs in the brightest of smiles, before he said - #"Listen to them, the children of the night!!!"

I had to grin at the Dracula quote, but said nothing, concentrating only on the thrill of the hunt, as we attained the cover of the trees and the woodlands surrounding the mansion.

The sounds of the wolf grew louder, closer, and I heard James shouting something behind us, as he left the safety of the mansion too, although I didn't catch what he said, too caught up in the moment to take any real notice. My attention was entirely taken up by tracking Rob and by Kirk running beside me.

I kept catching sight of the full moon floating above us, guiding us almost and shuddered every time I saw it, shining through the trees. It felt then as though she were mocking us instead of guiding us then, that full moon hanging in the sky, as though she were the one causing all the trouble ....

James was still following us, judging by the crashing noises behind us, as we ran further into the woodlands, and I caught the intoxicating scent of his blood hanging stronger in the air, as James must have cut himself open on an overhanging tree branch. But even the smell of food wasn't quite enough right then to make me turn away from hunting Rob, who consumed all of my every thought right then, and I wondered what would happen when finally we did meet ...

And then we saw him, standing alone in the middle of a clearing, facing away from us, watching something on the other side of the clearing that I couldn't immediately see, but I could tell that Rob had changed, transformed, but it wasn't until he turned to face us, how apparent that change actually was ....

It seemed as if I was staring into the face of the enemy and I had to physically remind myself that this was still Rob, no matter what he looked like on the outside ....

This was still Rob ....

dun - dun - DUNNNN!!

Mwahahahahaah!!!

What will happen next????

Thanks guys (and :huggie: to Claire   )

I have to admit to having to Google Angela Knight .... .... but now that I have, I'm gonna have to read some of her books now!!!!! They sound cool!!!! :rockdevil:

Anyway, here's the next part, where you find out what happens next-ah!!!!!!!!

PART THIRTEEN!!! (dun - dun - DUNNNNN!!!!!!)

I bit back the initial shout of horror and revulsion at what I saw in Rob, his true face now being revealed to me, after wondering for the best part of the evening. Now I understood these confusing feelings that had been bombarding me, for now I saw that somehow, Rob had been transformed into a werewolf...

His eyes were glowing a sickly yellow in the moonlit air, while fur covered the majority of his body. His clothes were ripped and torn from where he had changed, which at least explained all the blood left behind in his room. He bared his teeth in a vicious growl, as he snarled angrily at u, before taking on what looked too much like a fighting stance for my liking. I tensed, ready for trouble, and I could feel Kirk beside me doing the same.

How could this have happened? When did this happen, more to the point??

I thought back over the evening and saw once again the time when Rob and I had been searching the empty and darkened corridors for the still missing Kirk, when had disappeared only to turn up once again, laying on the ground with Lars leaning over him... I remembered again feeling the werewolf brush right past me, seemingly more interested in Rob than he had been in me. Maybe he'd known that I was destined to be something else entirely ....

Werewolf ... Rob was a damn werewolf, and did I not remember reading somewhere in some horror novel or another that werewolves and vampires were enemies???? Which explained a lot as to why Rob seemingly had it in for Kirk and I all evening.

I tried to remind myself that it wasn't me, wasn't Kirk ourselves he really hated, it was what we had become that he was hating, that he was scared of ....

"Rob, it's alright, we're here to help you, we're here to take you back!" I said, talking before I even knew properly what I was going to say, or even where I was going to take this.

I nearly choked on the words "help you" for the thought of helping something so disgusting to me as a vampire as a damn werewolf seemed just that ... disgusting, unthinkable. Then I thought, but it's Rob ....

Despite the monster he had turned into, this was still Rob and I tried to see past the wolf, to the friend I had once known. After all, I was a monster now, too, as was Kirk.

I felt conflicted, didn't know what to do or to say any more, just looked to Kirk for guidance, but he seemingly was having a harder time dealing with this than I was. His mind was completely blank and closed off to me in his obvious shock and revulsion, which only heightened when Rob lifted his head to the skies and howled, long and loud, calling to the moon above us, which seemed to me me now to be mocking us instead of guiding us.

"Come back, papi," I said, quietly, to Rob, biting back the immediate word that sprang to mind, which was "heel"

Rob was not a dog, no matter how much he resembled one to me right now.

I closed my eyes and heard the sounds of things drawing closer, closer, closer still, catching another scent on the breeze, which I didn't recognize, yet felt like I could deal with easier than I could with Rob. I reached out to Kirk, both mentally and physically, reaching for his hand once again, as I whispered to his mind - "I need you, Kirk!"

His fingers tightened around me and I felt his thoughts opening up once again to me, filling me with his sudden tension, as he, too, caught the scent on the breeze.

I closed my eyes, knowing that whatever was coming was heading directly for us and I frowned. I caught malevolence in the air, evil, anger, but it was not directed to us ....

Whatever was coming was heading straight for Rob ....

"ROB!! COME HERE!!! NOW!!!" I yelled at Rob, trying with all my might to influence the damn wolfboy in front of me just to come when called.

Then I called the word I'd been trying so hard to avoid - "HEEL, ROB, HEEL!!! GET!!!!!"

Kirk huffed out a laugh, then said - "I think we can deal with whatever's coming, Shannyn. Whatever is coming means us no harm, I can feel it …. All we have to do is try to protect Rob. I think it’s him they’re after … !”

I saw in his mind's eye a thought of us going to take a stand by Rob's side, facing up to what was coming, therefore protecting him with our presence, the very presence he so seemingly hated, and was scared of ....

I nodded once at him, showing him that I'd understood him, before walking forwards, to take my position on Rob's right hand, trying to ignore the anger in Rob's snarl, only meeting it with a snarl of my own. I wished right then that I was not in his presence either - the proximity to his wolf side was killing me. Kirk got the same reaction when he took Rob's left side, giving Rob the same reaction I had.

"There's two of us, Rob, and only one of you. I don't think you could take on the pair of us," Kirk told him, through gritted fangs, when Rob seemed to make a move as though to strike him. "You do not wish to make us further enemies now, when you may need us the most. Go back to the mutual enmity afterwards .... "

I was listening to the one sided exchange with only half my attention, flinching only slightly when the things that had been coming closer finally broke from cover, to stand ranged at the edge of the clearing, staring over towards us, with eyes seemingly only for Rob. They took no notice of us, the vampires ...

"What the hell are they?" Rob asked, breathlessly, taking in their hideous forms.

"They're like nothing I've ever seen," I said to him, in awe of the four legged figures before us that looked nothing more than large, disfigured, demonic dogs .....

I took in their black fur, their glowing red eyes, their unnatural size, thinking that although they looked like dogs, sort of, they did not in fact resemble Rob, with his now lupine appearance, at all. They were not werewolves like I'd initially thought, but something else entirely, but I just did not know the nature of the beast before me.

But Kirk apparently did. I caught the sudden spark of recognition and realization within him before he even spoke ...

"Hell Hounds .... !" Kirk breathed, so quietly, even I with my super hearing almost didn't catch him.

"Hell .... Hounds, Kirk? As in hounds from hell?" I asked, feeling like I was stating the bleeding obvious but finding it necessary to ask anyway.

"That's exactly what hey are. They guard the gates of the world of the dead, and sometimes they come to hunt down sinners .... as part of the Wild Hunt of legend ... !" he said.

I eyed Rob dubiously then, then something in what Kirk had said sunk in.

"They guard the world of the dead ... !" I murmured, before standing in front of Rob, placing myself between them and Rob, not quite sure of what I was doing, just doing it anyway, trusting in my superior instincts, because it was all I had at the moment.

I stared into the eyes of the Hellhound at the front of the pack, which I presumed must be the leader, before, baring my fangs back at the hound. Surprisingly, the HellHound dropped his gaze, cowering slightly. I felt a little taken aback, but quite pleased that what at first had been pure instinct was now turning into a valid idea.

“Shannyn! What are you doing?” Kirk asked from behind me, hissing out the words so that he should not distract me too much from my concentrated staring match with the pack of slavering HellHounds.

“You said they guard the gates to the world of the dead, Kirk. Out of the three of us, Rob is the only one of us still alive, despite being a werewolf. Becoming vampires made us dead, Kirk, so they don’t figure us a threat. To them, seemingly we are masters … “ I said, quietly, fearing to take my eyes off the Hellhounds just in case they leapt forward to attack Rob.

I felt a small bead of sweat roll down my forehead, as I continued my staring match with the hellhound’s leader, as one started to inch forward, lips bared in a snarl, drool creeping from his lips, as he sniffed the air for Rob.

“Down!!! Get back!!!! This one is not for you!” I growled at the Hellhound, putting Rob closer to my back, feeling him shudder at the touch of my cold, dead hand.

But he didn’t move.

Neither did the Hellhound.

“Fall back!!! This one is not for you!!! This one is ours!” I said, gesturing slowly to Kirk, who now joined me silently, staring deep into the eyes of each and every Hellhound ranged before us …..

dun – dun – DUNNNNNNN!!!!!

What will happen???

Will Shannyn’s plan work???

Will Kirk and Shannyn save Rob from marauding Hellhounds????

Stay tuned to find out!!!!!

Whazzup??? How's it hanging??? :horns:  :horns2

Here's the next part! Hope you like it-uh!!!!

PART FOURTEEN.

“Fall back!!! This one is not for you!!! This one is ours!” I said, gesturing slowly to Kirk, who now joined me silently, staring deep into the eyes of each and every Hellhound ranged before us …..

Rob looked over my shoulder, growling again, but this time it was at the Hellhounds and not at us. Still not what I wanted to hear, but at least it was an improvement.

"Shush, Rob, d'you want us to help you or not?" I hissed at the bassist, who just shot me a puzzled look.

I clarified by saying - "If you want us to help your hairy ass, then shut up! You're only serving to antagonize them!"

Rob got the not so subtle hint and shut up, merely went back to staring at the Hellhounds almost despondently.

"Mother Pus Bucket!!!!" came James' voice from behind us, as he finally caught up with us, breaking from the cover of the trees.

I almost turned, but didn’t dare take my eyes from the pack before us. I grabbed a handful of Rob’s shirt when I felt him flinch at the sudden exclamation. The Hellhounds started forward at the sound of James’ voice, some moving towards James, some heading for Rob. Either way we were screwed – we couldn’t let the Hounds at either of them.

I risked a quick glance backwards at James, who seemed transfixed, almost hypnotised by the sight of the ravenous Hounds coming for him.

“Holy SHIT!!! Shannyn!!!” Kirk said, as he swiped at a nearby circling Hellhound. “GET BACK, I TELL YA!!!!!”

I took a side swipe of my own at a nearby Hound who attempted to bite me, but cowered when he realized it wasn’t a living person he was trying to eat.

" BACK!!! SIT!!! STAAAAAY!!! JAMES!!! TAKE ROB BACK TO THE MANSION!" I screamed at the vocalist, who didn't immediately move, nor react to what I'd said, just continued to stare at the pack of Hellhounds, who thankfully had at least stopped their infernal circling ..... for now.

James didn't immediately react, and one brave Hellhound started creeping forward again.

"JAMES!!! DO AS SHE SAYS OR I'LL KICK YOUR LANKY BUTT CLEAR INTO NEXT WEEK!" Kirk roared at him, stepping forward to physically punch the Hellhound clear in the face when it came too close to Rob.

The Hellhound lunged at Kirk, biting deep into the guitarist’s arm.

“KIRK! NO!!” I howled, lunging forward myself to physically haul the hound from Kirk, dispatching it with a quick break to it’s neck.

It was as if that one movement finally convinced James just to move, to act on what we'd suggested, for he shouted at Rob - "Rob or whatever the hell you are, come here!!!! I'm taking you back!!!"

Rob surprisingly did so, without a word or a whimper, just went, following James obediently, while we covered their backs, by standing guard, sending out command after command to the Hellhounds, who at least listened to us, as masters of the Undead speaking to the guardians of the dead …

When we were sure that Rob and James were at a safe distance, we followed them back to the mansion at a much slower pace, just in case the Hellhounds decided to follow us anyway. They did but at least they paid us enough heed to not try again to attack either James or Rob, which I was much relieved about.

I wonder if Rob or James realized just how much they owed Kirk and I. They did indeed owe us their very lives. If it hadn’t been for us, then surely they would be dead by now, and unlike us, they couldn’t come back …. They weren’t damn near indestructible like us …

It seemed to be an interminable time before we attained the safety of the mansion, and I could once again breathe, even though the act of breathing was not a necessity for me any more. It was just merely habit.

I looked to Kirk, who was looking paler than normal, through stress, strain, fear … I reached out to him, touching his face, gently, and he at least attempted a smile at me, half closing his eyes, as he inhaled sharply. He exhaled much more slowly, before tipping me a slow wink.

“It’s okay, Kirk, we’re safe,” I said to him, quietly. “We did a good job. At least Rob and James are still alive!”

“Thank you!” he replied, simply, just as quietly.

“For what?” I asked, even though I knew what he meant.

I was picking up his thoughts of his view of me breaking the Hellhound’s neck. I shivered at his memory of how savage I looked, how angry, spurred on by the thought of trying to save Kirk.

“Of saving my …. Is life the right word?” Kirk asked me uncertainly.

I had to smile at that, before I said – “Don’t thank me for that, Kirk. You know I would do it again without hesitation in a heartbeat, if I still had one!”

We just stood there in silence for a while, before James melted out of the shadows, blue eyes wide and wary. I closed my eyes a little painfully, because I’m sure that wariness was because of us, not just because of what had happened outside.

“Care to explain what the hell’s going on?” was all he asked of us.

I looked to Kirk, who was just opening his mouth to respond, when a scream from somewhere deep in the mansion, alerted us to yet more trouble.

“Oh God, now what?” James said, with a pained groan, already turning towards the sounds of the screams. “Will this night ever end?”

Dun – dun – DUNNNN!!!

Who is screaming somewhere in the mansion??

Will James ever get to the bottom of what is happening???

Stay tuned to find out!!!!! :rockdevil:

Thank you guys!! :huggie:

Here's the next instalment!!!

PART FIFTEEN....

I looked to Kirk, who was just opening his mouth to respond, when a scream from somewhere deep in the mansion, alerted us to yet more trouble.

“Oh God, now what?” James said, with a pained groan, already turning towards the sounds of the screams. “Will this night ever end?”

I closed my eyes, all the better to scent the air, trying to determine the direction of the screams and the the cries. Beside me, I could sense Kirk doing the very same thing, and I noted the faint shiftings in the air as he moved slightly beside me.

"What are you guys doing? Are you .... sniffing?? Sniffing for what?" James asked, sounding confused.

"Clues. Directions, Anything!" Kirk replied, softly, beside me, as I locked onto the scent of Rob far away, but at least I knew where he was, in what direction he was.

"I got it, my love!" I felt rather than heard Kirk say in my head, when I mentally showed him the way with the link, the special bond we shared.

"James! Follow us, please!" Kirk said to the vocalist, as he passed the taller man, with me close in his footsteps, stepping silently after him.

"I swear you two don't even make a freaking sound when you walk, I tell you!" James grumbled, as he followed us. "I don't know where you think you're going, because I can't see a thing! You guys must be super-human or something!"

I reahed back to take a hold of one of James' hands while shushing him gently. He recoiled quite visibly, almost violently at my slight touch. I remembered then that I had not yet laid a hand on him. The only other person I had actually physically touched was Kirk, and he hadn't minded, although his flesh was as cold as mine. For me, it seemed strange to meet the touch of something warm beneath my fingertips and I tried to ignore the pangs of hunger that touch provoked. I did not want to use James as my dinner, despite how much he smelt like it to me right then.

I could even feel the blood coursing through his veins beneath my fingertips, and I curled my lip as I struggled to control myself against him.

"My God, Shannyn, you're so cold!! Why are you - you're not dead are you?" James asked, in horror.

"Oh for God's sake, James, I'm a vampire!! I'm supposed to feel like that!" I said, slightly sharper than I originally intended to be.

"Is Kirk - ?" but James did not finish his own sentence, as though he already knew the answer. "Did he - ? He didn't force - ?"

"Yes, he is a vampire, yes he was the one who bit me, and no he didn't force himself on me if that's what you;'re asking, James. I wet willingly!" I said, following Kirk's lead still, as I took a stronger grasp of James' arm when irt seemed as though he was about to wriggle free. "Do not make me grab you any harder, James. I cannot promise that I will not break your arm with the slightest touch. I am physically stronger than you now ... !"

"For such a deceptively frail looking thing .... !" James commented, sounding sad to me, even as Kirk hissed up ahead.

"We're here!" he said, and through the gloom I could see him turn to stare directly at us, unfailingly finding our location in the dark.

"So what do we do? Do we go in? Rob's a werewolf, right? If you're vampires and he's a werewolf, what the hell is Lars? What the hell am I come to think of it? I don't feel any different!" James said, and I heard his clothes rustle and move as though he was running one palm down his chest, as though he were checking he was still all there and all in human shaped piece.

"James, you are all too human, I am afraid ... !" I said, with a struggle, trying to ignore what the word human meant to me, to Kirk.

"Wait, you're not thinking of eating me are you?" James asked in horror.

"Unfortunately, you do smell too much lik a fast food take out right about now, James. Now are we actually going o go in, tonight, or are we going to stand here all night talking about the merits of how to serve up James Hetfield?" Kirk asked, and I snorted back a laugh at the obvious amusement in Kirk's voice floating through the dark.

"You wouldn't .... EAT ME???? Fuck that!! I'm outta here ... !" James said, and he felt like he was trying to pull away from me again.

One squeeze from my stronger hand convinced him otherwise.

"I don't think so, baby puppy!" I said to him, even as I nodded at Kirk for him to lead the way into the room before us.

"Ho do you even know you have the right room, vamps? They all look the smae to me!" James said, as I physically hauled him through the door after me.

"I forgot you cannot smell the distinct smell of a werewolf, James. They do tend to reek a bit," Kirk told him absently, as he flicked on a light switch.

Amazingly, the lights above us flared into life, the room being illuminated by a wash of bright light from an electric crystal chandalier suspended far above our heads.

"Seems like the electric has stabilized at long last!" I observed, thankfully.

"Oh, God!!! Will you look at you two in the light!" James said in horror.

I looked to Kirk and he looked to me, both of us wondering what James could see.

Kirk looked to me jut like a vampire should be, tall, elegant, deathly pale, which made his already dark eyes seem darker still, yet more shiny. I knew that I must have made the same transformation, yet did not want to test the mirror theory, just in case ...

"You're beautiful!" James said in awe.

Kirk cracked a smile at that, a full one, fangs glinting in the light, as he said - !Thank you, James. You're not too shabby yourself!"

I had to laugh at that, beforeI turned a pefect circle in the middle of the room, scanning it for signs of Rob, and drawing a Rob shaped blank.

"Where is he? I could swear that the trail led directly here ... !" Kirk said, in surprise, as he too scanned the room with eyes seemingly too large for his face.

"Well you're the vampires. If you don't know where the hell he is, then what chance have I got? You're the ones who took on a bunch of demonic dogs .... !" James said, before he paused rather dramtically.

"What?" both Kirk and I said at the same time.

"I heard a noise!" James said quietly.

I turned, sniffing agin, as I heard the noise also, unable at first to immediatley locate it.

"It's coming from in the walls .... !" James said, padding across the room, on too noisy feet. "Who said a human couldn't hear things???"

Neither Kirk nor I said a thing, merely trailed James around the room, listening at various points in the wall while trying to detemne the source of the noises we could hear. I caught the scent of Rob again, and another scent I thought I recognized.

"Holy crap, guys!!! He's got Lars!!! Wherever in hell Rob is, he's got Lars!!!!" I said, turning to face Kirk, with large eyes of my own ....

dun - dun - DUNNN!!!

Why has Rob got Lars?

And what does Rob plan to do with Lars?

And how are Kirk, Shannyn and James going to gain access to them??

Stay tuned to find out!!!!

PART SIXTEEN.

"Holy crap, guys!!! He's got Lars!!! Wherever in hell Rob is, he's got Lars!!!!" I said, turning to face Kirk, with large eyes of my own ....

Behind us I heard a sharp intake of breath and I half turned just in time to see James' legs disappearing through a trapdoor in the wall, which niftily clinked shut quietly behind him.

"James??" I asked, heading over that way hurriedly.

Kirk groaned loudly and saidly - "God!!! I've had enough now!! Where's he gone? JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMES!!!!!"

"I'm in here!!! You gonna let me out?" came James' voice from inside the wall.

"How did you get in there?" I asked, giving the wall a few experimental taps.

"I leant on the wall and it just swung open behind me. Ask Kirk to lean on it - you're not strong enough to do it!" James said, even as I pushed the trapdoor in the wall open with one finger.

I arched an eyebrow at him as though to say you were saying??? James' only response was to roll his eyes and say - "Vampires!!!"

Kirk leant round me, one hand on my shoulder to sniff the air in the tunnel, which stretched out behind James.

"He's somewhere in there .... Lars .... I can smell Rob .... and something else .... what is that??? Smells .... foul .... horrible!!!" Kirk said, wrinkling his nose delicately against the disgusting odour drifting it's way ominously towards us on unseen breezes that riffled James' hair as he stood before us.

James choked, clamping one hand firmly over both nose and mouth, and I heard his breath whooshing against his palm.

"Oh, man!!! Did someone die down there?" he said, his voice sounding slightly muffled against the protection of his hand.

"If they did, then it was a long time ago!" I said, calmly, before gesturing James out of the way with a polite smile. "We'll lead the way - I think we should investigate - sounds like Lars needed our help!"

James stood by, letting us past, even as he gagged on the strong odour seemingly floating around us on deadly wings.

"Man .... !!!" he muttered, as his heavy footsteps started up behind us, dragging slightly with his reluctance to get closer to that smell. "How can you stand the stink, guys?"

"Process of elimination!" Kirk muttered, as we went further and further down into the darkness, the light from the room we had left behind no longer illuminating the way. I had to rely on my vampire senses to lead the way, feeling grateful for vampiric night vision and smelly-vision right at that moment.

The smell was over powering to say the least. If it was bad for James with his weaker human senses, then it was ten times worse for a vampire's nose, whose sense of smell was much more refined than a mere human's.

"What the hell is it?" I murmured to Kirk as the smell grew even stronger. "We must be getting pretty near to the source, now!!!"

Kirk nodded, but remained silent, his feet making no noise on the ground as he stole forward cat like in the gloom, leaving my side momentarily to scout the way ahead.

He waved me forward when he noticed that the coast was clear, before we all stole into a room, which seemed the size of Times Square, an impossible feat considering the fact we still were underneath the mansion. From far ahead of us, was heard the sounds of Lars saying something, but the echoes in the place distorted anything he was saying into unintelligible murmurs, so that nothing intelligent could be made out. Then came a by now familiar growl and a snarl which could have only have come from Rob. This time, though, the snarl, the growl seemed born from pain and fear, and not through anger alone. I wondered what Lars was saying, what he had done to Rob to make him whine so.

I hissed at James to keep quiet as we stole forward, further still into the cavernous space, James trying for silence with his heavily booted human feet, but still he made too much noise, compared to our silent glidings.

In time we reached the other side of the cavernous area at which point we stopped, hesitating for only mere seconds before creeping silently onwards, drawing closer to the sounds of Lars and Rob. The smell did not seem quite so bad, now, but was it because we were accustomed to it now, or was it because the vague breeze had shifted now, blowing away from us more than towards us??? Either way, it didn't matter.

All that mattered was getting to our band mates and getting them the hell out. Enough was enough - I thought it about time we should be leaving the mansion, and taking our business elsewhere. Of course it was too late for Kirk, Rob and myself, but for the sake of James and Lars and their intact humanity, we should get out.

"Is it me or is it getting hot in here?" Kirk leant in close enough to my ear to murmur quietly into it without being heard by anyone nearby, not even James.

I had noticed the shift in temperature, as well as a faint reddish glow in the air, and I blinked as the glow grew brighter and brighter still.

"What is the meaning of all this?" James asked behind us, his voice a murmur in the glow.

Neither of us answered, merely stole forward, ever watchful for danger ahead, feeling that it could not be far away.

I could hear Lars more clearly now, make out his words, ringing out clearer into the glowing redness of the air, sounding like he was pleading .... with Rob, maybe???

"Please .... no more ..... no more!!!" he was saying, the edge of panic all too clear in his voice, mixed in with what sounded too much like pain for my liking.

"What the hell's Rob doing to Lars?" James asked, undisguised horror practically dripping from every word he spoke.

"I don;t think it's Rob doing it to him, James," Kirk suddenly announced in a muted voice.

"What?" James asked. "You mean someone else is there??? Who isit?"

He looked first to Kirk, then to me, when he didn't immediately get an answer from the guitarist. I merely shrugged, then said - "All I am picking up on is that there is someone else with him, maybe more than one someone, but I can't quite determine who!"

"No, neither can I!" Kirk confirmed.

He opened his mouth as though to say more, but a pair of hands appeared out of the red and misty gloom behind him, grabbing him firmly by the shoulders, and dragging him off into the gloom before I could reach out and stop it.

"KIRK!!" I screamed, but he was gone.

dun - dun - DUNNNNNN!!!!

What is happening to Rob and Lars???

Where has Kirk been taken to? And by whom??? And for what purpose???
