Don't Tread On Me

Haha, well the thing is: I still don't really believe it until I get it in my hands. There's also worries that it may get damaged in shipping. So until it is in my hands and without any damage, I will be able to fully embrace the thing. Also on this day, I don't think I'd ever done it. I don't know what happened to me on that week that I ordered this thing. I guess it was one big impulsive gamble. So damn, it better be worth it! It was close to 1700 EU in the end. And the waiting time was twice as long as they said it would be. My 800 EU Gibson already plays great. This guitar cost me twice as much, and in all honesty, I don't think it will play and sound twice as best as my Gibson. But on the other hand: It will have everything I wanted. I've already sold some gear (which earned me a total of 1575 EU) to compensate for it a bit. But still, 1700...it fucks a lot with my conscience. Looking back, it's just a bit out of my comfort zone. But, the results of the play test by the contacts person were very promising! |

This is exciting!!! I would be jumping around all over the place, and constantly checking the tracking number on it from the shipping compane to see where it is. That's great news that the tester person really liked it. Getting a new instrument is always so exciting. Here's a dumb question: do brand new guitars go through a "breaking in" period? I know that with some instruments playing on a brand new one can be a little different and green sounding, until they are officially "broken in" if that makes any sense. I was just wondering if it's the same with guitars. |

Thanks Ashley. They didn't provide me with a tracking number so I really wouldn't know where it is now. 'Breaking in' period is not so extreme with guitars. You can play them right away, but the neck often needs some time (several weeks) to really find it's way under the string tension. So after some weeks it may be needed to adjust a couple of things. A related interesting thing: Guitarists often say their guitar gets better with time. Like Kirk has said that his old guitars sound better and better every year. With violins, it's scientifically proven that they do get better when they age. It hasn't been proven for guitars yet, but most likely this also applies to guitars. |

It varies a lot it seems. But it should be here within 7 days of shipping. But they also had it happen as fast as just 1 day (from Russia to England). So I'm expecting any day this coming week. If it's taking longer, customs will have it, but it's not likely because a) Customs aren't very strict in Holland, and b) they have marked the box in such ways that it is unattractive to customs (marked it as 'used guitar' and marked it with low value). I'm buying stuff from ebay USA regulary (guitar parts and stuff) and never had to pay taxes for it. |

IT HAS ARRIVED!! Already! It plays really nice! I haven't tried it with a good amp yet, but I already could hear that it sounds massive! When unwrapping the package I was shaking of excitement! Here are some pics: ![]() ![]() There's only one thing that bugs me: There is some dirt in the finish! At various places on the guitar! I'm now in contact with the company to see what they have to say about it. Here is a pic of one area:

Fucking hell... Because of the finish flaws, and me being unsatisfied with that, they ordered me to return the guitar... ARGH I don't know if I can do this... *edited out the nervous breakdown* |

Do you want to return the guitar? Maybe their intention is to fix the finish and then send it back to you. Or if you could have it fixed locally maybe that would be better than risking the shipping. Is the dirt actually under the finish? I guess then it would be harder to remove, and it wouldn't be just an easy fix. The main thing is that you paid all the money for it so you're the one who needs to be happy. If the dirt in the finish is an error on their part they should fix it for you free of charge. They aren't going to make a whole new guitar are they? |

They asked me to send it back so they are gonna re-finish it. So I guess they will sand it down to wood again, and then apply new layers. I'm fine with it, as long as it ain't gonna cost me a penny. Yes the dirt is UNDER the clearcoat. They think something went wrong before the clearcoat got on. Damn...and all this time I felt so weird about it. As if I made the wrong choice. Goddamnit! |

The guy said he never noticed it and he thinks it happened during transit and that it's probably some chemical reaction of the finish after there probably have been spilled chemicals on my guitar. The chemical reaction just occurred later, and not right away. At least that's the theory they have about it. |

That's got to be disappointing to have to send it back again when you just got it. What a test of patience. I don't think that I could be that patient and send it back again. At least it sounds like the guitar factory has decent customer service, and they are going to take care of the problem. They should too, you paid them good money for that guitar. I don't think that you made a wrong choice in buying it though. You said that you already like the way that it plays, so it's good in that department. You just have to wait a bit longer for it. Good things are worth waiting for.
