In the last 5 years on the internet I've seen a lot of hate over the Frantic lyrics. Especially the "My lifestyle determines my deathstyle" or the Frantic-tic-tic-tic-tic-tock parts. I dunno, some of you know I am a 'critic' fan of Metallica, but I really don't see anything wrong with the Frantic lyrics. I think they are great really. I think they make perfect sense too. What do you think about the lyrics? Do the critics have a point? Is it really that bad? |

I don't see anything wrong "My lifestyle determines my deathstyle" , if fact I think it actually pretty clever . If you have really bad habits , like drinking , it's pretty sure that will be your death. Actually , I found the SA's lyrics quite good . The problem is I just don't dig the music . |

I have to admit I take a different view to you guys. To me- the lyrics feel clumsy, almost childish... particularly when compared to the lyrics to earlier albums. But as with everything, it's only opinion, and that's mine. |

Well, I do like the lyrics to Frantic, especially the "Birth is pain" etc. part, but I have to say that James' songwriting ability has suffered a bit in comparison to what he used to write for example for Master Of Puppets. I don't want to say his lyrics are bad, heavens no, but they're not that...I don't know...'epic' anymore, if you know what I mean. |

Frantic's lyrics are just fine IMO. Frantic tic tic tic toc -- it's the seconds of your life ticking away. That's my interpretation, and it fits with the song. It's actually kind of clever. Lifestyle determines my deathstyle -- nothing wrong with that. It's an old saying, you live by the gun, you die by the gun. Just take out "the gun" and fill it in with the vice of your choice. You live by drugs you die by drugs. You live by alcohol, you die by alcohol. |

I think the lyrics to frantic -and the whole album's lyrics in general- lack the subtlety that we are used to seeing in all metallica songs (kill'em all being a juvenile yet admirable exception). Also I think the in-your-faceness of the music on St. Anger intensifies that overt quality. But then again, this was the whole point of the album. Although I totally respect the collaborative lyric writing effort I'm glad James got the reins back in that department with Death Magnetic. By the way, BBS would fit right in St. Anger lyric-wise. |

I agree with this one hundred percent. The earlier lyrics had double (or even triple) meanings, but SA had very literate meanings. Is it bad? I dunno, it's really up to the person. |

I love the lyrics, they make me smile. And that's available for all the songs from St. Anger. I dunno why people hate St. Anger so much, because I really love the album. The lyrics are really cool, and I LOVE the drums and Frantic is the first song from St. Anger that I've first heard, and I love it.

I agree 100%. I don't want to say that I hate St. Anger's lyrics, but they indeed lack the subtlety and I especially like songs (not just of Metallica) which leave you room for your own interpretation. |
