Good to hear that old grudges have been buried.
It says much about his personality (and maybe the change in it) that he wrote that letter. Especially that he did it openly. :tu:

Well it's good to know that after years of slapping like school boys, they're finally playing nice.

He's been burying old grudges for years...only to dig em up again with time.
Back in 1993 he already said that the bullshit between both bands was over.

Read all about it here:

People change! You don't want to give Dave the benefit of doubt, he truly might have changed. They've all grown up. If you deny the fact that people grow and change why do you believe James when he says he's not going to drink anymore? Because he's James?

It's so childish. You believe that just because the guys in metallica are who they are, that they're perfect. They're all human. Open your freaking eyes. Metallica has done bad shit too and well yeah maybe they changed. Dave can change too.

/annoyance came over me.

I so fucking agree to this.
I hate how many Metallica fans always bitch on Dave, even when he's trying to be nice (same goes for Megadeth fans who bitch over Metallica but we're talking about Dave here).

I think that Megadeth + Metallica are two different bands. So what they've had a history? They are all different people and all people change with time, so I strongly agree with what Emmi said: Metallica did bad things and surely they have changed. So, if your heroes Metallica can do that, Dave Mustaine can do it too.

Not every member in Metallica have been saints, you know, and same goes for Dave.
/Felt the need to say that :)

Are you all talking to me?

In all honesty: I think it's great that Dave was friendly in this open letter thing. But do I fully trust his intention for 100%? No. But still I do turst it a hell of a lot more than 50%.

Have I ever said that Metallica were saints? I think I've shown enough criticism towards Metallica over the years on here. Some even doubted if I really was a fan. Metallica choosing the most vulnerable and weak parts of Dave's contribution to SKOM was bad. Still I think Metallica have always been a lot more mature when it comes to the Dave thing. Dave has said so much shit over the years, and I'm proud Metallica haven't felt the need to answer it.

And another example of dickhead Mustaine: I've spoken with someone who knows the person who designed one of the artworks on one of his current guitars. The person got ZERO credit for this art and Dave claimed it as his own. When the artist tried to get justice on the Megadeth forums, his ass was banned instantly.

Years ago, I was always full of optimism about Dave despite everyone (Metallica fans in the neighborhood) calling him an asshole. I wanted to learn more about who he really was, and form my own opinion. Some time after that, I was even more into Megadeth than I was into Metallica at some point. Then I rediscovered some Metallica stuff and Metallica has been my #1 again ever since.
Then things went bad when it comes to my views on Dave...It was 2004, the release of The System Has Failed. In every goddamn interview I've seen from that year he is attacking Metallica in the most childish ways possible. Dave, who is in his 40s openly makes fun of Lars for having said that he likes Dave. And proceeds to go on that Kirk looks gay and that he fucked Kirks girlfriend 'just before he got my job'. Oh Dave, you're such a real man! NOT!

I've never been able to like him as much as before after this crap. I still have plenty of respect for him as a musician, but I can't idolize him anymore.

That's a good bit of maturity from Dave. Good for him. I'm sure it meant a lot to him to be invited to the ceremony.

I'm sure Ron McGovney is bitter and bitching about why he wasn't invited. OR was he???

Same here Max. I tried to like Dave becuase I thought that it's stupid not to like the guy just because he's not in Metallica anoymore, but everytime I said 'Oh, poor Dave' or 'Dave doesn't deserve that' he poved me wrong, because the second day I would see him saying shit about Metallica or Lars.

And I never said that Lars and James were saints, becuase they're far from being one.

My point is how people bitch when he is unmature but also when he is mature. Stop caring then if nothing is good enough. For starters Metallica have been just as inmature towards Jason, to mention one thing.

Goddamnit, who DOESN'T have their immature moments? People seem to forget that they are first and foremost HUMAN before they are rock stars.
Both parties have acted in an immature manner throughout the history of the band.
Metallica treated Jason with incredible disrespect during his entire tenure with the band.
Dave hasn't gotten over the whole Metallica thing until (hopefully) now.
It seems to me that Dave's statement was very good-natured and came from the heart.
On the contrary, I completely understand why some people would be skeptical about it's intentions. Dave hasn't exactly had a clean record when it comes to burying the hatchet about this matter.
My theory is that maybe it all is coming from a good place.
Not too long ago, James specifically said that anyone who HASN'T played on a record--including Dave--wasn't even gonna be invited if they were to be inducted.
Yet after the induction was confirmed, they even invited the guy to the ceremony..and he's not even going to be inducted (due to the policy of the Hall of Fame).
Maybe, HOPEFULLY, this event has finally prompted them to let bygones be bygones and FINALLY grow the fuck up. They ALL have been a part of the history and made the band the institution that it is.
Now is not a time to be questioning motives...the fact of the matter is that the best band in the world is finally getting the recognition they deserve and all is well on all fronts...let's fucking celebrate, ladies and gentlemen!

In this train of thought, I can't believe how certain people (not on this board, I'm talking in general) form their opinion on bands from the fact what personalities are the musicians. This is stupid and retarded. "I don't listen to Deep Purple because Ritchie Blackmore is a bad guy", "I don't listen to Megadeth because Dave insulted James, and James is my idol, mother, father, brother, everything", "I don't listen to Machine Head because I'm a Slayer fan"...FUCK MAN! For me, if the music is good, I'd listen to the band even if the members fuck cats in a full moon, have 5 heads each one and eat babies with garlic!

I can't speak for everyone in the world who have had run-ins with Dave, but I can tell you from personal experience, he's been a darling guy.

I've seen him stand out in freezing weather, ill and coughing, but signing autographs for us fans.

I've seen him concerned about fan safety, even speaking to local security about keeping those of us up front from getting trampled and pushed around.

At one venue, he told professional photographers who were standing in the way to "please move" so fans up front could see the show and get some decent pictures of him and the band members.

He's comforted fans who had lost loved ones or were going through some rough times.

He posts on the forums all the time and leaves messages for us on TheLiveLine.

Yes, history has shown that he has a tendency to speak before he thinks (some of the best quotes ever) but he adores and respects the fans who adore and respect him.

The "artwork" fan was banned because he broke a written, legal agreement, from what I understand.

And yes, I'm a member of the MFC.

"But I turned it down partly because I'm on tour and partly because if I'm going to be there, I would like to be inducted along with them. I don't want to go there just as an invited guest. You know, anyone can be invited to these things." <_<
