Oh, for fuck's sake! I was just warming up to him again!
Um, it's obvious that you were invited by the guys themselves...if you were INVITED, that would make you an INVITED GUEST. Pure fucking logic there!
The reason you're not being inducted isn't because any of the band members don't want you there. HALL OF FAME POLICY is that only those who have contributed to a RECORDED track are elligible for induction. Therefore, you are INELLIGIBLE. This shit happened TWO DECADES AGO. Suck it up and take it like a man!

Yes it's unbelievable. I knew my feelings were right when I questioned his 'friendly' message 1 month ago.

And in reply to the person who wrote all this postive stuff about and the fans: I've seen the opposite aswell! He has banned TONS of fans from the forums when they disagreed with Dave about ex-bandmembers being inferior to the current ones. It was so ugly. Dave took it WAAAY too personal. Litterally DOZENS of members got banned by Dave himself!

And he may be nice to fans, but I get this feeling he's doing it very selectively. I've also heard stories about him turning his back as soon as he saw fans waiting for him.

But.....don't you think he has a right to being inducted as well? He was part of Metallica at the beginning, an active part actually 'cause he wrote songs and stuff. I mean they put Robert in, I like the guy but it's quite early to say he's had a "constructive part" in Metallica which I'm sure he'll soon have anyhows!

I'd rather seen Dave inducted with Megadeth anyhows, for it is his best achievement.

EDIT: Oh sorry I didn't pay enough attention to Roxie's post and the recorded stuff rule. Well then, if those are the rules....but I still think people should not forget Dave's part in Metallica.

I agree with you there. he has a HUGE part in Metallica's history and no one should EVER forget that...if you're a true fan, anyway.
But the fact that he's so bitter over something that happened sooo long ago...it gets really old, fast.
I may not like Megadeth as much as Metallica, but I think they deserve their place in the Hall of Fame as well, all in due time.
He's lucky the guys even thought to invite him...I've seen bands actually fight WHILE accepting their induction! It could have turned into a big mess, but it wasn't. I guess I understand what he's saying...I'd feel crappy too if I were sitting at the same table with my band and weren't able to go up their with them to be inducted. But it's a stark contrast to what he said in the letter, it angers me...he acts like Megadeth doesn't have a highly devoted following of their own, they've sold over 50 million albums themselves! That may not be as much as Metallica's sold, but that's considered a great success by any standards.
He just really needs to keep his mouth shut at this point, if he really doesn't have anything nice to say anymore...he's still a respected member of the music community, and revered as one of the forefathers of Metal...a good musician knows when to keep the scathing attacks to themselves. Do everyone a favor and keep it fucking civil!

Megadeth hasn't sold over 50 millions. Not even close. I doubt they've even reached as far as 25 millions. That is a fact.

Dave Mustaine does not have a HUGE part in Met. history. He was in the band for less than 11 months. Metallica history spans 28 years. This is another fact.

Dave Mustaine did contribute to 5 or 6 Metallica songs, and his contribution was valuable, nobody denies that. Metallica has written around 160 songs (could be even more). At least 155 of them has absolutely nothing to do with Mustaine. Fact.

Mustaine does not have a full writing credit in any of the Metallica songs. Fact.

Mustaine is duely (and officially) credited for his contributions to those few songs. Fact.

Mustaine is a very talented musician. Fact.

Mustaine is a very troubled person. Fact.

Megadeth is a successful band. Fact.

Megadeth is a good band. Personal opinion.

Megadeth will never be inducted into the RRHOF if the criteria for induction are as listed in Flea's speech. Fact + personal opinion.

Mustaine has gotten toooooo much attention over Metallica. Way more than he deserves. He should be thankful instead of bitter. Personal opinion.

My post isn't directed to anyone in particular. And I respect Mustaine fans. Fact. :)

I kinda feel like whenever Dave complains about Metallica, what must his bandmates in Megadeth be thinking?
Going on and on about being kicked out of Metallica makes it look like Megadeth is not as good. He should be proud of what he's done in Megadeth and not keep thinking about what could have been 25 years ago.

Word :horns2

Mustaine is known by many BECAUSE of his former affiliation with Metallica, not in spite of it. That's not to say that Mustaine isn't successful in his own right or isn't good to his fans, because he is. But he DOES NOT deserve to be inducted into the hall of fame with Metallica. He played a relatively minor and very early role in Metallica's success as a band. Metallica's success does not in any way hinge upon Dave Mustaine.

And a side note, I've tried at least 2 times to add Megadeth as a Myspace friend to the Metallichicks Myspace page. Every time I get rejected. I find that funny, and a little childish. Just food for thought.

Ah, you are right, they've actually sold over 20 million albums worldwide...I got that first figure from an unreliable source, my mistake.
I personally feel he does have a huge part in Metallica's history. That doesn't necessarily mean I believe he should have been inducted. Like I said, he didn't fall under the criteria for eligibility, so therefore, he's unfit to be inducted. I still personally believe that Megadeth deserves a spot in the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe, not as much as Metallica, but they do.
He was one of the first band members (that being said, Grant and McGovney are also important factors in the history of Metallica), that's pretty huge in my book. Just because he had a short tenure in the band doesn't mean he wasn't a big part in the band's history...at least that's my opinion.
But most of the facts you've stated are absolutely right.
My point is though, that he really should just let it go by now.
This happened over 28 years ago...he's gone on to form a moderately successful band, there's no need for the off-collar quips and sarcasm that he's produced over the years.
Frankly, I think it's bullshit, it's childish, and it's just NOT necessary.
Maybe the music media makes a bigger deal about this than they really should and prompts him to react as such (because the Metal media is KNOWN to do that), but why can't he just be the bigger man and just brush the questions and commentary off? Why does he ALWAYS have something to say about it?
I'm all for free speech, but he talks his fucking head off about this shit then gets angry when people call him out on it.
I admire his talent, but the fact that he can't be a respectable guy and just drop it annoys the hell out of me.

Well R@quel it's childish but also understandable. They probably fear we might be an obsessed bunch who despises Dave for what happened in beetween him and Metallica. He probably needs to understand not all people like to linger on the past....

I don't think it's understandable at all. It's Myspace, and for Megadeth to reject Myspace friends because of an affiliation with Metallica is fucking retarded. I'm a Megadeth fan, and I have every Megadeth album except one. Many of you are fans. They rejected a fan because I'm also a fan of Metallica. I think that's pretty much the heart of what we're talking about, right?

That's a bit strange. Metallica is in my top and my friend request was still accepted.

It is very strange. For the hell of it, I'll try again, and report the results. No, I'm sorry, it wasn't two times, it was THREE times the Metallichicks Myspace page was rejected from the Megadeth Myspace page. I'm assuming it's for no other reason than it is affiliated with/relating to Metallica. I can't think of any other reason why.
