So now that the album has been out for a while and pretty much everybody has listened to it for a while, it's time for some reviews. I'm interested in your opinions after this time because the 'rush of it being new after being thrown in your face' has faded a bit, and I think this changes people's views to more honest in-depth views. You know how it goes...First you didn't like that song, but it has grown on you. Or the other way around: You thought it was awesome, but it got boring quickly after. TELL US!

Well, like any other Tallica album I can't get bored of it.I mean I listen to it everyday and I just love it.It really reminds me of MOP, you have fast heavy songs, but again with slow and harmonic parts and generally riffs are awesome (lyrics as well ) and ''The ripper'' is back with awesome solos, so what can I say more I thought it was awesome first time I heard it, and I still think the same. Now that songs have grown on me, I love them even more

Even after 6 months with the whole new album excitement pretty much worn away, I still think its an amazing album. To be honest, I didn't like That Was Just Your Life at first, but now it has grown on me. And I love All Nightmare Long even more that the video has zombies in it I still think this album stands up to the old stuff and will continue to be a strong album as the years go on. :horns2 on a bit of a side note, is anybody else holding out hope for a Unforgiven III video? To me it would feel incomplete without it, but hey I dunno... |

It's my favourite album with Justice. I love it from the beginning to the end. My favourite songs are TDTNC, The Unforgiven III and All Nightmare Long. And My Apocalypse... and, oh what the hell, it's awesome and there's no fillers in this album. I just made a new album in my mp3 which includes all my favourite Met songs and since I couldn't decide the songs from DM, I just put the whole album in there. :horns2 I liked all the songs from the beginning, but there was two songs that needed a few more listenings to get into... Judas Kiss and Suicide And Redemption. Now I love those two as well. So... it's a kickass album and there hasn't been a day without it after it was released.

That Was Just Your Life - 10/10 Best fucking intro since Blackened. Holy shit. It kicks my balls in, so thank God I don't have any. Features what I think is my favorite solo by Kirk in this album. The End of the Line - 7/10 I'm annoyed with it now. The only part that stills moves me is the breakdown post-solo into the final bits of the song. Epic as fucking hell. Broken, Beat and Scarred - 8.5/10 This is meant to be played live. This is amazing live. The first three minutes are great. I still, still have fucking issues with the riff that comes in halfway through the song and into the solo. It's just horrrrrible to me. Everything else is ace. The Day That Never Comes - 10/10 I love it live. I love it on the album. I HATE THAT IT'S THE MOST POPULAR SONG FROM DM AND THAT EVERY FUCKER IS LIKE "oh ho this song fucking rules man hur hur hur best Metallica song ever" AND THEY HAVEN'T HEARD THE WHOLE DAMN ALBUM!! /soapbox. But. I won't let that get in the way of how I like this song. All Nightmare Long - 10/10 I loved it before. I loved it live. I love it now. DOES THIS NEED A FURTHER EXPLANATION? No. Cyanide - 10/10 I love it. I've always loved it. Fuck you guys who had issues with it... including myself. lol. Good job me. The Unforgiven III - 10/10 I have fallen out of love with it, but it still moves me. I think this is the song where no mater what, where I am, or what mood I am in, James's cry of "why can't I forgive me" right into Kirk's solo will always make me choke up. The Judas Kiss - 10/10 Funny story with this song. I was listening to it in the Tavern at my school American University. It's like a little restaurant thing on campus, or whatever. No one is there because everyone is off on Spring Break. There are tours going around on campus. So I'm there, on my laptop, listening to Death Magnetic, specifically this song, The Judas Kiss. I am rocking out. I am in my zone. The Judas Kiss has me by the fucking balls and it ain't letting go. Little did I know that a tour was coming into the Tavern. The tour guide walks right past me. He's talking about stuff. I don't even notice him. So, when it reaches the part of the chorus where I just cannot contain myself, I let myself loose, and I scream in my death metal voice: BOW DOWN!! And the poor tour guide jumped and fell to the ground. The people all stare at me, these prospective students and parents who want to come to my school, and they are like in WTF mode. And I stare back at them, and I say, "... um. Sorry. Metallica. WELCOME TO AU." And then I return to my laptop, pretending to work again, while the tour guide gets off the floor and resumes showing the people the tour of my campus. ... tl;dr: I FUCKING LOVE THE JUDAS KISS, the end. Suicide & Redemption - 10/10 I got my epiphany on this song too. This is just like wtf Metallica where did this come from. Once I got out of the whole THIS ISN'T TLITD/ORION/KTULU PART 2, it's actually quite amazing and progressive and pretty fucking awesome. The riffs aren't boring to me anymore. They flow well now. The pretty part is now even MORE epic to me because I like the first three minutes so much. It just builds and builds and builds like the older instrumentals did, but not in the whole classical sense like Orion and Ktulu were based upon. This is a different kind of instrumental, and I appreciate it a lot. I'll try to dissect it some other time. My Apocalypse - 10/10 At first, I hated this song. I was like, ugh, this song is just so boring and stupid and blah. I really did not like it. Then my friend Jeremy one night back in November says, "Yo, let's go drive around in my car, get some Sonic, and blast Death Magnetic, except we're skipping U3 because it fucks with my metal hard on." I'm all, "Okay, sure!" So we drive around DC aimlessly, pick up some Sonic, and blast Death Magnetic at ungodly fucking volumes. We're rocking out, we're having a good time, and then after S&R, My Apocalypse starts up. Before this moment, this very moment, My Apocalypse was just an OK song to me. But let me tell you. Racing at top speeds in Washington DC late at night and blasting this song in your car at top volume is mother. fucking. AMAAAAAAAAAAZING. Dude. Like. I couldn't contain myself. My body just thrummed with energy. I felt the song. It was like, holy shit, this feeling I have, this emotion, this... this URGE TO GO AND FUCK SOME SHIT UP. HOLY. FUCKING. HETFIELD. I MUST. SEEK. AND. DESTROY. GAAAAAAAH. So I proceeded to mosh in my seat. I headbanged. I windmilled. I belted every single lyric on top of my lungs. And around the CRUSHINGMETALRIPPINGSKIN part I stuck my head out the window and SCREAMED it. By the time the song ended, I slumped into my seat, exhausted like I just had an amaaaaaazing orgasm, and I was like, "Ho shit I need a cigarette, and I don't even smoke." I turn to Jeremy, and Jeremy is like, "... oooookay. So. ... Blind Guardian now?" And I'm all, "... Okay!" Hahaha, yeaaaaah. tl;dr: My Apocalypse rules. So all in all, Death Magnetic is great. My rankings of albums: Master, Justice/DM, RTL, Kill 'Em All, Black Album, Load/Reload, St. Anger. Yeah. This is a great album. Good job guys. NOW GIVE ME THE NEW ALBUM ALREADY jk jk tour some more for a bit but please no five years I can't take it kthnxbai. |

I think I'll quote you Tijana, cause those words are taken outta my mouth! The album has grown on me more than I'd ever think it would! Really, its crazy. I just bought it for like "Well gotta see what they've done now" and then I was REALLY amazed by it! Especially "The Unforgiven III" and "The Day That Never Comes" Were huge hits for me the first couple of times! Now I just love the whole record!

Hehe, this topic was posted over at PPM. Good idea too I reckon. I'm gonna do a track by track and then an out of 10 thing I think. You're about to get the least technical rating! ![]() 1. That Was Just Your Life It took me a little while to really get into this song. A few listens later and I fell in love with it. I really like the riff before the first verse. I suck at technical explanation but, it really has the sort of power that'll make any lazy arse move! Rating: 8/10 2. The End Of The Line I love the opening of this song. Mostly got hooked by the opening of it thanks to the MetOnTour vids! Vocally, it's one of my favourites on the album. Besides the opening, it's a little underwhelming. [P.S. The slave becomes the master! :biggrin]Rating: 8.5/10 3. Broken, Beat and Scarred I'm going to be very honest now. I HATED this song with a fiery, burning passion when I first heard it. One thing that really annoys me is when lyrics just don't sound right. I am of course referring to 'What don't kill ya makes ya more strong'. I REALLY don't like that line at all. I've now learnt to miss hearing it when I listen to the song. The rest of it is great! Amazing live too. Rating: 9.5/10 [Blame that line. It could've been 10] 4. The Day That Never Comes I love this song so much. No-one could make me hate it. Not even a teeny bit. There's nothing else for me to say. Oh wait... SOLO! *bows down* Rating: 10/10 5. All Nightmare Long Epic. Sheer brilliance. It was the first song I heard from Death Magnetic. Used by WWE for one of their pay per views (I don't remember which one.) Strong, fast, with an undisputable sing-a-long chorus and a solo that could rip you to shreds! This is Metallica. Rating: 10/10 6. Cyanide Not one of my favourites but, I still find myself singing along to it. I love the lyrics. Could've been a great, however, it still doesn't quite feel right. I really wanted to love it. A real shame. Rating: 7/10 7. The Unforgiven III I don't understand. It doesn't fit into 'The Unforgiven' line of things. I, one of my favourite songs of all time. II, a definite sequel but not my thing. I really don't like III. I find myself listening to it to try and find my like of it. I just can't. Rating: 5/10 [Help me!] 8. The Judas Kiss LOL, the Judas Kiss dance! Totally catchy and brilliant for blasting really loud. Cool song with a lot of good hooks and good fun to see live. I sold my soul to this song! Rating: 10/10 9. Suicide and Redemption The build up in this song is phenomenal. I love a song that tells a story. Starts with just good leads and slowly builds up to that FABULOUS solo 6:18. Love it! Rating: 10/10 10. My Apocalypse Total shred fest. The faster the better! My favourite song on the album. Rating: 10/10 So there you have it. Out of 100, a respectable 88. So out of 10, that makes 8.8/10. Unfair on some of the songs but a pretty good score. |

Well, I must say that I loved it from the beginning simply because it's METALLICA. I remember throwing it in the car CD immediately after buying it and watching my year old son rock out from the opening riff. (The first song he EVER heard was "ONE" on the way home from the hospital so this was no surprise !! ) After a few listens, the standouts for me are definitely "All Nightmare Long" and "The Unforgiven III". "Judas Kiss" took a few more listens but all in all I still listen to it at least once a day. They could record a whole album of fart sounds and I'd love it .....

I'll use the rating system that everyone else has been using. 1. That Was Just Your Life This is an awesome pump-up song...I listen to it everyday on my way to work. I always find myself lip-synching to it as I'm walking down the street...amidst the bewildered stares of people around me who have no clue whether I'm talking to myself or not. The heartbeat intro certainly sets the tone for the album for me...every song somehow ends up affecting my heart rate. Rating: 9.5/10 2. The End Of The Line The chorus and the guitar solo are what really get me here. Very menacing, kind of reminds me of "Enter Sandman" for some odd reason. Rating: 9.5/10 3. Broken, Beat and Scarred This is the ultimate uplifting song. The "SHOW YOUR SCARS" chant always reels me the fuck in. I always end up feeling determined and angry [in a good way] whenever I listen to this. Rating: 9.5/10 4. The Day That Never Comes When I first heard it, the day they released it, I cried. Never in my life has a song ever made me cry tears of joy, nor has once since. The first thing I said to my best friend as we heard it together with tears in our eyes was "They're back." Rating: 9.5/10 5. All Nightmare Long This was actually my first favorite song off the album. Blasted it on repeat for hours on end. The video was spectacular, reminded me of "One" in which it was so unconventional and really made a valid artistic statement. Rating: 9/10 6. Cyanide I actually didn't like it that much at first, but it has definitely grown on me. It was the first song off of the album that I really learned the words to and I always found myself singing it every now and then out of convenience. It's not EPIC, but it's a very good jam. Rating: 8.5/10 7. The Unforgiven III I keep hearing a lot about how it doesn't really fit into the rest of the "Unforgiven" songs...but I strongly beg to differ...the lyrics definitely correlate with one another, and even if it does sound different from the other two, it all makes sense if you really read into it. That being said, i understand where you may be coming from, because when I first heard it, I pretty much thought "Okay this is a great song but it doesn't even SOUND like it belongs with the other two." So I didn't even like it that much at first. But I did my research and found that it all really does make sense. Putting all that aside, this is my current favorite song off of the album. James' range here is totally on display, the guitar solo is fucking amazing, the strings did a really great job of accenting the song without overpowering it. I think it is a beautiful song, and the lyrics are gorgeous. Rating: 11/10 8. The Judas Kiss I'm gonna be honest and say that I don't listen to this song as much as the other songs, but the lyrics are really great. Rating: 8/10 9. Suicide and Redemption I totally agree with Torr on the point that it really tells a story. I'm not much of a fan of instrumental songs (for some odd reason, I NEED words most of the time), so this is another one I don't listen to that much, but the times I HAVE listened to it, I always come away with a big smile on my face. Rating: 8/10 10. My Apocalypse Wonderful, wonderful song. Hearkens back to the younger days of 'Tallica and totally deserving of the Best Metal Performance Grammy. Rating: 10/10 |

1. That Was Just Your Life Good heavy opener. Rating: 7/10 2. The End Of The Line I love the "drop the hourglass of time" bit, it makes the song complete and feel like a classical metallica song Rating: 6/10 3. Broken, Beat and Scarred my least favorite, I don't know why, it hasen't grown on me yet Rating: 9.5/10 4. The Day That Never Comes I think i've heard it too much. I loved it at first, I thought it was really great, but it has the same effect as NEM on me, I heard it to much now Rating: 8/10 5. All Nightmare Long I had to get used to the clip, but I dig the song, It is great live, and you can headbang your head of!!!! Rating: 9/10 6. Cyanide My favorite, great powerfull song, badass riffs, good lyrics. It was the first one I heard from the album (live!) And I loved it!, and still love it the most Rating: 11/10 7. The Unforgiven III Not a typical unforgiven, but a great song. Just the title doesn't fit. but I love the singing and the melody in it Rating: 10/10 8. The Judas Kiss 2 Minutes Ripper.... Rating: 9/10 9. Suicide and Redemption Great instrumental song, but it misses the magical touch of cliff. Not that I am saying that rob is a bad bassplayer, not I think he is fantastic. But cliff new how to write music, and make those instrumental songs, like orion, just that little more fantastic. Rating: 8/10 10. My Apocalypse This song really had to grow on me, I didn't like it at first, but now I like it better, still not my favorite, but I like it, I have to be in the mood for it Rating: 7/10 |

That Was Just Your Life Great song to start an album. Love it everything about and the heartbeat intro is so awesome. I think it show that Metallica is "alive" and ready to rock our soul out. My fave song on the album by far! 10/10 The End Of The Line I won't say this is the greatest song that their ever made but it isn' bad, not at all. After the the 4.00 min the song starts to get better, badass solo and the end of the song is so fucking epic. But I think if this song was smaller it would be better. 7/10 Broken, Beat & Scarred This song could be so awesome if the lyrics was better and also again, if it was more smaller. It turns a bit repetive. Good song live , thought. 6.5/10 The Day That Never Comes Beautiful song .Once again , it shows that Metallica are more than a heavy metal band. The only thing that I dislike is the line "Love is a four letter word". HOLY SHIT JAMES! I didn't know that ! Thanks for the spelling hehe The second half of the song is killer. Love love love love the solo . It sound a bit like One but of course, One is better ![]() 8.5/10 All Nightmare Long Always loved this song. My second fave on the album. 9/10 Cyanide I really dig the bass one this song, the riffs are really cool too but I still not sure about the line " Suicide, I Already Die ". It bugges me the hell of me =/ 7.5/10 The Unforgiven III Gah, I truely dislike this song . I think James' voice sound so weak on this one . UIII is good example that some thigs should be left the way they're. Two Unforgivens are enough imo. The only part I like is the begging, the piano sounds so beautiful but the rest is a big HELL NO ! 3/10 The Judas Kiss In terms of lyrics ,this might be the best on the album. The rest is awesome too . 7/10 Suicide & Redemption It's ok. It isn't epic as The Call of Ktulu or beautiful as Orion but it isn't awful either. In my point of view the boys tried to show it that their sound is back and the we all know that instrumentals are a big piece of their's music. Still something is missing in the sound. I agree with what Laura said about Cliff. 6/10 My Apocalypse Something interesting happen with this song. It used to be my fave when I first listen the album but now I'm tired of it  It sill is a cool faster's song but on my ears it sound like a low version of Battery  6/10 Conclusion : It isn't the Metallica's album but it's a good comeback after two not to good albums .

Oh man lol I actually really liked that "love is a four letter word" line! Especially if you think of it in the context of "...and never spoken here" I feel it's a really great metaphor for what the song is trying to convey...that love is a somewhat of a novelty (much like a curse word generally is) in the situation of the protagonist of the song. It's easy to dislike cause it sounds so simple/cliche, but I honestly like it a lot. |

) and ''The ripper'' is back with awesome solos, so what can I say more

I still think this album stands up to the old stuff and will continue to be a strong album as the years go on.
