Least favorite song on the album is TDTNC.

How's that possible? It does have pretty much everything Metallica is capable of.

Thank you very much for being that comprensive. :huggie: I wrote that at the end of my post, cuz It has happened to me that  I express what I really think about something that Metallica or any of the guys has done, and  I try to make it very polite  and nice, and out of nowhere there's some fangirl bashing upon cuz she loves everything they do, no matter what they do, without expressing a judgement with criteria upon it, and cuz of that they think that one hates them,  and they're missing all the point.

I hope I don't get in trouble...

Girlie, I totally know how you feel, lol.

Well, it seems that I didn't get in troubles.:P I like to post in here, despite I know sometimes I'm a little paranoid when I do it.

Roxie, I was amazed cuz of your post's lenght, I can't write that much myself...Anyway, good for you :tu:

Yay, I didn't get in trouble!! :P :) :biggrin

The album has definitely grown on me, especially after the live show!
I think it's brilliant, I'm just not diggin' the intrumental one too much.

My favourite song at the moment is My Apocalypse, and I have to admit that I didn't like it when DM first came out.

After all these months, I still really like the album.
In the beginning, it was way too new and I was way too exited about that to know whether or not I'd have favorites. But now I do.

The Judas Kiss is by far my absolute favorite of this album and it has been since the first time I heard it; I just love how the chorus kicks in.
Then, I really like All Nightmare Long, Cyanide and Broken, Beat and Scarred.

All in all, the album is still a good one to me and I still enjoy listening to it in its entire.

EDIT: I saw someone mentioned My Apocalypse and I wanna tell something about it.
I didn't really like it when DM was released and I must admit that it still doesn't give me any goesbumps whatsoever. It IS a nice and good song, but one of the least good songs on DM (together with The End of the Line).
I easily skip this song, but if my Ipod's on shuffle and it plays the song, I often listen to it, so I don't hate it or anything. Just think it's not the best song on the album by far.

I had listened to Death Magnetic non-stop for about 3 months following its release. This was to quench my thirst for a brand new Metallica album after so many years. Then I left it to rest for a while. About 2 months ago I started listening to it again. Now that it's brewed I just can't let it go. I'm rediscovering the details and the songs are gradually revealing themselves to me. I've never been able to appreciate a Metallica album fully in less than a year. Somehow it takes me a long time to really get to know their albums. This is certainly not because Metallica albums are not immediately impressive. On the contrary, they are almost always so deep and crafted so intricately that they never stop growing on me (except for Reload and St. Anger).
I've been an adamant Metallica fan for many years now, but I'm still learning what Puppets, Justice or Load have to tell me. I'm sure this will be the same for Death Magnetic. I can imagine myself listening to this album 10 years from now and finding something new to admire.
(maybe I'll even like Unforgiven 3 one day)
To me DM is easily one of the best Metallica albums and I'm so proud of our guys to have created such a masterpiece.

Don't agree. TDTNC has great verses, but the chorus is pretty boring.
The fast part is complicated and very good, but doesn't really suit the song. At least, to my ears :P

It's great live, though and the lyrics are nice :)

Funny how almost everyone instantly liked DM when it came out. Personally, I hated it in the beginning. I listened to it a couple of times, and basically what I heard was a couple of riffs that didn't flow into eachother, and a somewhat vague sound off the guitars. Like they tried getting the sound from Justice or Black, but they didn't really remember what settings to use on their equipment.

A couple of weeks ago, I ripped the CD to mp3, and put it on my mp3 player, and behold.. I started to like the album. Somehow it didn't sound right at first through a 500 euro stereo set, but it caught me while playing through a set of 25 euro, 20 year old minispeakers. I put the album on when going to bed, and just lie down, and listen to it.

Then I slapped the CD back in my stereo, and yep.. I still liked it. Some riffs still sound weird to me, but the transitions of some riffs which I didn't hear at first are just very, very subtle.

My current favourites on the album are All Nightmare Long, Judas Kiss and The Day That Never Comes.

My overall conclusion is that even though it's a great album, and it's a return to the trashmetal they started out with, for me it's not on par with either puppets or lightning. Those two albums are almost written as if it's classical music on some bad ass steriods. Some parts of some opera's, when played on guitar sound like metal to me. (This is what you get from being raised with nearly only classical music. I hated it at first, but now Im able to see (some) contemporary music in some great perspective)

Just my 2 cents,

Greetz,
Martijn
