It's about Napster!I think Lars was right when he said that he do not agree with people who are stealing their music.I do not understand why some fans allow having a computer and access to internet but they can't buy even one fucking album. Metallica work like anyone else for these albums and they have the right to protect their work. And that is not the biggest problem.I really get angry when some fans started to offend them because they don't give them music for free. For fucking sake,if they would be in Metallica place they did the same thing. This is my opinion.

Wow, old issue. I remember I didn't even know what the hell Napster was. I didn't follow the case either, and I think it's funny when you see those people destroying their merch on SKOM, I mean, they already paid for it, so in fact, they're only fucking themselves I say let it go. It's old stuff and I think it's also pretty unimportant. |

I don't think there is an expiration date for discussions. (But please do let me know if it's otherwise) Many people have disregarded the fact that Metallica went after Napster upon I Disappear's being stolen (that's what it is) and shared while they were still working on the song. That's the shittiest thing to do and nothing justifies it. I think they had every right to stop it. It's their product, and theirs only to control as they please. Maybe it wasn't so wise of Metallica at the time to think they could actually stop file sharing on the internet. Obviously, they couldn't. The fact that it is unstoppable in this day and age does not make it fair. Also those who bash Metallica because of the Napster case are obviously too dumb and blind to see tha fact that Metallica has always supported bootlegging. To make it short, I do not agree with those "fans" either, elena. |

I disagree. The Napster case is a mirror of our attitude to mental work. As a person that is making money by mental work, I can tell you that many people underestimate this type of work. |

I have no problem with downloading music as long as you have to pay for it. |

You are right!many people think that playing music or teaching someone is useless.Musicians are people who have a great gift given by god.Everyone like listening to music, but when they see how rich and famous they are they became jealous.I'm not this kind of person,if many people love them is normal that they deserve to be rich. And it's not an old stuff because if you search on youtube you will see people who early posted on some metallica videos that:"metallica suck","they are sold out","fucking lars for napster",however,I don't understand why they are looking on that videos anymore. They are INSANE! |

I didn't say anything about people who work with mental issues. I said I think the matter's unimportant 'cause it's old, there have been a million discussions about it and I think it just doesn't matter anymore. I also think Lars and Metallica don't think it still matters... And THAT is what I meant. But no, pebbles, there is of course no experiation date for discussions. That was simply my oppinion on it

Agreed Elena. I'm not against downloading really, but come on, how hard is it to BUY a cd if you really like it? Especially if you're a fan, then you just buy it. As a musician myself I think downloading/file sharing can be a good thing to show your music out there to the rest of world. But on the other hand, I like how things were in the past. When buying records was exciting and an honest way for artists to earn money. The Metallica fans who are against the Napster case really have no clue. |

To be quite honest, it's pretty fucking hard to buy a CD even if you are a fan...I've been a Metallica fan for 5 years, and I downloaded all of their discography up until "St. Anger" because I had NO MEANS whatsoever of buying any of their albums. Only recently (a couple of months ago, to be exact) did I get a job and treat myself to "Death Magnetic" and "Live Shit"...I had to download them because a: I wasn't making any money of my own and Mom had ACTUAL expenses to worry about, I wasn't about to mooch off of her just to buy some fucking CDs. And b: I didn't know anyone in my neighborhood who I could bum a copy off of. Maybe it's easier fot the lot of you to find a way to cop an album that DOESN'T involve illegally downloading it off of a file sharing application, but it hasn't been easy for me, and if that doesn't make me a true fan, then so be it. That being said, Metallica had every right to go after Napster the way they did, they acted as artists who felt they needed to protect their craft, and they succeeded to some degree. If it hadn't been for them, all free file sharing sites would have been all but legallized and pay sites like iTunes wouldn't even exist. |

Lol yeah I totaly understood where you were coming from sweetie. And I completely agree with you...they're closed-minded assholes who don't really understant that an artist really must protect what's theirs...it really shows you how much the guys actually CARE about the music they make. The people who complain and critisize aren't even real fans, anyway. I was actually responding to other posts on the thread that pretty much said that if you are a fan, you SHOULD be able to buy the albums and CD's or search them up on youtube or other sites if you aren't...I've been in far too many situations where I've had people flat out tell me that I'm not a real fan just because I downloaded all their albums. Now PLEASE NOTE: I am not saying that anyone on this board has said that, but I'm using it as a reference point in stating my opinion. I think it's bullshit that my or anyone else's devotion to the band is questioned due to the fact that we can't always afford what they put out. |

Hey Roxie, don't worry about it. You just really had/have no money! So no one will blame you for it. This thread really is about people who are spoiled and don't understand the bands motivation to go after napster. |
