I totally agree with you elena! I just hate it when I see or hear people say that Metallica and Lars are betraying their fans and this and that all because of Napster! I mean..sure I download music but thats just for A song that I like and I see no point in getting the whole cd for...I have like a TON of cds lol and I still buy them, wow what a concept!

OH and get this! My bf's little brother whos like 17, is a Metallica fan...ok so my bf and him were having an argument about who was a bigger Metallica fan....his brother said he was a bigger fan because he downloaded the music!? I just looked at my boyfriend and said "Uhhh...actually Lars would frown upon that fact..."

People laugh at me when I tell them that I use Napster now lol. The Napster-to-go for my mp3 player is a great deal. People want too many things for free. Wasn't there an article recently about a band who's barely getting by because all of the fans want the music for free and the lead singer was against Metallica for suing Napster?

Wow, old issue.

I remember I didn't even know what the hell Napster was. I didn't follow the case either, and I think it's funny when you see those people destroying their merch on SKOM, I mean, they already paid for it, so in fact, they're only fucking themselves :P

I say let it go. It's old stuff and I think it's also pretty unimportant.

Jason & hes gang was smashing those Cds..

Me neither, I also don't understand why when I saw some Kind Of Monster some fans were tearing apart their Metallica albums and stomping on them. One guy said, ''I don't want anything to do with Metallica no more'' and I was like,....WHAT?? Think about it...if you were an artist would you want your work being downloaded out there for free? I wouldn't.
Plus, I'm not a fan of downlaoding stuff...I like to own the albums and show off a d collection. It just, like, satisfies my fandoml way more rather than to downlaod the stuff, and download it for free is worse. ...lol, Am I the only one who thinks it that way?

I all i say is good fucking on them! They worked so hard, and still do now, to create that music that we love so much. Having someone download it from the site is stealing, as we all know. I didnt care too much for it when It all aired out, I was only 14 or 15 and didnt even know what a damn computer was. But as I got older I understood. From that day on I have stood by Metallica and Lars for doing what they did. I salute them for having the balls to stand up for their rights. I know I would have done the same thing...

Edit; I was actually 14 or 15 with the whole Napster fiasco. Oops! I was think of something else.... lol My Bad!!!!

I FULLY AGREE>>
I hadn't a f***ng idea when this ''case'' happened back in 2000/2001
cause i didnt knew that MetallicA they re ''carying on their showlders'' 23 years carreer i was a piece of shit that i was listening ''MetallicA sucks and Metallica is Over,, or MetallicA betrayed us...and that kind of stuff.
But; When my mind was full and inside it's place i realised that All these Words by the ''fans'' was just crap!!!!

From the first time i listened the REAL FACTS (About I Disappear ) i knew that Lars was so right, and All MetallicA of cource.!!!

and this is soi right and wasome ;'' I salute them for having the balls to stand up for their rights''

MetallicA always had the BAlls to stay in their rights

To be quite honest, it's pretty fucking hard to buy a CD even if you are a fan...I've been a Metallica fan for 5 years, and I downloaded all of their discography up until "St. Anger" because I had NO MEANS whatsoever of buying any of their albums. Only recently (a couple of months ago, to be exact) did I get a job and treat myself to "Death Magnetic" and "Live Shit"...I had to download them because a: I wasn't making any money of my own and Mom had ACTUAL expenses to worry about, I wasn't about to mooch off of her just to buy some fucking CDs. And b: I didn't know anyone in my neighborhood who I could bum a copy off of.
Maybe it's easier fot the lot of you to find a way to cop an album that DOESN'T involve illegally downloading it off of a file sharing application, but it hasn't been easy for me, and if that doesn't make me a true fan, then so be it.

That being said, Metallica had every right to go after Napster the way they did, they acted as artists who felt they needed to protect their craft, and they succeeded to some degree. If it hadn't been for them, all free file sharing sites would have been all but legallized and pay sites like iTunes wouldn't even exist.

I totally understand you, I've been in the same stuff most of my life.

When I was 12 and I first started to get into Metallica, my parents (and everyone around me) were really poor. My mother used to give me BGN0.30 ($0.20) for breakfast. Instead having a breakfast, I was collecting the money, so after a month or two I could buy a Metallica MC.

Fortunately, nowadays things are getting better :)

I totally agree with Metallica wanting to protect their work. NO ONE should get other people's work for free.

But how many of you have never downloaded a song for free? How many of you have never recorded a movie from tv on VHS? How many of you have never copied a cassette or recorded one from the radio? Piracy has always existed.
 Be it an album or just a song...the "but I only like 1 song" is not an excuse, it's still stealing.

It's inevitable: if people can get sth for free that would cost 20$ in the shops, most of them will get it for free. Even those (like ME) who totally agree with the artists' will to protect their work.

I think the solution would be to find a happy medium: lower the prices in the shops.
If I can get sth for free instead of paying 20$ for an album, I'll get it for free.
If I can get sth for free instead of paying 10 bucks...I'll probably pay and have a physical cd with its booklet and cool piccies and good quality and stuff, to add to my collection.

And this does not depend on the artists: it's the company's decision.

The cool thing is: when you buy blank cds, you pay a tax that goes to the artists' association or so...that's great :horns:

And another thing: Metallica are one of the "best" in that...I payed only 15Eur for Death Magnetic.
