JAMES HETFIELD is extra thankful to his mum on Mother's Day, because the piano lessons she forced him to take as a kid inspired him to become a rock star. The Metallica frontman hated the classical keyboard sessions but they introduced him to music and gave him his first steps towards a career on the stage. Hetfield tells Metal Hammer, “My mom had seen me over at a friend’s house just kind of start bashing on the piano, and she thought, oh, he’s gonna be a musician, OK, we’ll sign him up for piano. I did that for a couple of years and it was really a bit of a turn-off because it was learning classical pieces, stuff that I wasn’t listening to on the radio, you know? “I remember it was an older woman’s house and the cookies at the end was the big deal. But I am so glad it was somewhat forced upon me, because the act of left and right hand doing different things, and also singing at the same time, it gave me some inkling of what I do now. Singing and playing are somewhat easier than it probably could have been if I hadn’t have had piano.” Source Someone get this Metal Hammer! |

That was great.Thank you! I'm sure that he feels awful when he knows that his mother could stay alive nowadays. It is very hard to lose someone who teach you many things and loves you.I know how it feels and I understand that he doesn't want to talk about this very much.

That's so sweet! I hope my son will be as grateful later, he is taking keyboard lessons now (because he wanted to) and has to play classical pieces as well and hates practicing. Maybe I should give him cookies afterwards! I'll let him read James' story so he will know why he has to practice!

He did it all for the cookie. ;) ---- That's awesome. I wish my parents would have put me through music lessons at a younger age. I think I want my kids to be exposed to this. I would love to play the piano. I might start them out on it and see where that takes them. |
