For the life of me, I can't get the intro to "... And Justice For All" to sound smooth!

There isn't any solo I CAN play. Hardest song... I think it's Disposable heroes for me. The "soldier boy.." part. It goes from 4/4 to 3/4 everytime, so when I finally have the riff, it's disturbed.... or something. |

There's 2 types of hard for me: The hardest song you CAN play and The song you wanna play but simply can't. I think the hardest I can play is: Battery (James parts only) Songs that are too hard for me: Blackened, Megadeth - Poison Was the Cure...and of course tons of others, but these 2 have been on my 'wishlist' for years and I never was able to get them right. |

Not to be all up in your grill, but why can't you play solos? And I never tried learning Disposable Heroes maybe because Metallica's downpicking murders me

I don't really know. Even if I try hard, I can't, so I mostly avoid them now untill I find a simple solo. I do know that I can't bend strings that well, but I'm practising. I think that's one of the biggest reasons why I can't play solos And in some way, my left hand just doesn't do what I want it to. (So if any of you has suggestions for simple solos so I can practise, it'd be appreciated...) |

Some easy (or easier) solos that are good to learn are any of the Nothing Else Matters solos, the second solo to Fade To Black, and MAYBE, depending on how long you've been playing, the A Tout Le Monde solo (Megadeth). And as for bends, which I can't do that well either, try staying away from solos that bend a lot. Usually (I've noticed) solos usually have at least one bend in it, but if you're playing fast enough, you can just do a half bend and no one will know. Kirk Hammett gets away with it

Yeah downpicking...that's why I never learned Puppets. It's just one huge workout and it doesn't attract me. Just thinking about it makes me tired already. Through the Never is also a tricky downpicking song. I used to be able to play it fairly well, but I've seem to have lost my strength as I lack endurance now. Metallica is very right hand based guitar playing. Almost like some kind of sports. I prefer left hand action over right hand. Megadeth is more left hand orientated and in general I have to say Megadeth songs are more entertaining to play on guitar (good example: This Was My Life). |

Yes! Excactly. Personally I'm into both, because to me, downpicking is a very thrash thing to do, and I'm a thrash oriented person. Can I do it like James? No. Am I better than maybe some other guitarists at down picking? Sure. I like left hand action because it requires lots of guitar and musical theory, and if you're a band like Megadeth, it just shows that you know your stuff. And you're very much right, Megadeth songs are much more fun to play on whatever instrument, take "Rattlehead" for example. |

Hmm. The Nothing Else Matters solo is one I have been practising on, but isn't working just yet. I'll try the other two though. Don't know if it'll work, I'm especially concerned about my left wrist. It's kinda weak since I had tendinitis about a year and a half ago.

Don't feel bad, I'm probably worse than you. Just know for the A Tout Le Monde solo(s) there are a lot of tied notes, so like I said, it really depends on how long you've been playing... How long HAVE you been playing? |

My left wrist it's weak too since I had a cyst , recently removed it. I want to learn The trooper but my left wrist doesn't let me practice the legatos , I already learn Jump In The Fire's 2nd solo , but I can't do it at the real speed and that frustrates me

Then I think you should be good. I think one of the biggest factors in playing guitar is time. |
