Why do they say "The Thing That Should Not Be" as the heaviest Metallica song ever? Read that in books and heard James said that in a concert as this one is a "heavy muthafucka" or something along the line. James also said that he pities those poor souls who sit in front of the bass bins when they play this song. I'm guessing it's the bass factor. I'm no musician so I know jack shit about bassline technicalities anything, I'm just wondering why is it so that makes it heavier than say Master or Puppets or Devil's Dance or Battery even? |

It could just be the attitude of the song, more than the bass. |

Down-tuning tends to make a song feel heavier and thicker, and it's about Cthulhu, who pretty much eats souls. That's fuckin' heavy. |

Yeah. I know the guitars are tuned to dropped D (for those who don't know: the lowest string, the E string, is tuned down two half tones) And the lyrics, like Aki said... And then the music that goes with it is dark and sinister... But I think calling a song 'the most heavy' is subjective. As are most of these kinds of sayings. |
