Thanks Tiff!!! Okay! Got more written! Hope you are still interested. (Continue of Astrid's POV) Thick blackness bubbled with distant ringing, sending a wave of light circles floating in the thick darkness. The ringing repeated, and the wave rose higher, flooding everything around me. The ringing continued, turning into a child's voice, and someone's hands pulled on my arm. “Please wake up!” My body came out of numbness with pain and I opened my eyes, gripping at my head. A tearful and dirty face of a little dark haired girl was above me. “Are you hurt?” I slowly sat up, feeling burning in my side and a heavy pounding pain in the back of my head and neck. “I'm okay...” The girl turned her head and screamed to someone behind me. “Mom, come quick, she woke up!” “Of thank to merciful Gods!” Someone dropped on their knees by my side and I recognized the face of the woman from the house. “Thank you for saving us!” She pressed her baby to her chest and wiped tears off her face. I looked around and saw a second little girl, no more than three years old standing by a boy, almost the same age. An older boy, that I saw earlier with the bow, had a bloody wrap on his head, and was standing by the pile of rubble, all that was left of the old house. My eyes continued, passing by the barn and the unfinished new house, stopping for a second on bodies on the ground. Two of them were wrapped in sheets, and placed side by side. My eyes returned to the family. “Where is Lana?” The woman lowered her face, tears falling from her eyes, and the dark-haired girl gripped her mother's hand, her lips shook. “Where is my friend?” I pulled the woman's shoulder and she shook her head. The pain in her eyes sent my heart flopping down. “Answer me!” “They took her, together with my oldest daughter...” The woman breathed out and I felt my heart drop. No... “I tried to stop them, but I couldn't...” The wounded boy swallowed, fighting his tears. “Where did they go? Which way?” I jumped up and looked at the forest around us. “I passed out and mom was hiding in the woods with the young ones, we didn't see where they went...” The boy stepped closer. “They had to have left a trail, I have to find them!” I looked at the farmers and picked up a viking axe. My eyes stopped on the wood chopping axe that was laying nearby. “Why don't you have any weapons?” “We're not warriors, we are farmers, we were looking for good land. We found this old farm and started to repair it.. we were only here half a month... they came out of nowhere.. they accused us of stealing... we never even saw them before! My oldest son was killed right away...” The woman swallowed her tears and turned her face to the corpses. “My husband is dead, too... if you hadn't shown up, we would all be dead... thank you!” “I'm sorry I came too late... and I'm sorry for your loss.” My hands returned to the woman's shoulders. “Do you know where they came from? How I can find them?” “I don't know, really... I know that Vikings never travel in this land without a ship, there has to be one that brought them... they were on foot, but they took our horses... they left hours ago... I'm afraid they're long gone...” The woman's lips shook and she bit into them, trying hard to hold it together. “I will go after them and I promise I will return your daughter to you!” I looked into the woman's eyes, full of pain, and saw a spark of hope. “I'll go with you.” The voice of the boy came from behind me and the eyes of the woman filled with fear. I let go of her shoulders and turned to the boy. “No, you'll stay here and keep them safe..." My eyes moved from one body of a middle aged farmer stretched on the ground to another, slightly older teenage boy. “You are the man of this family now.” “They have my sister, I'm going with you.” The boy picked up his father's axe in his hand and stepped to my side. “Dobrynya, I beg of you, I can't bare to lose you too!” His mother dropped on her knees and gripped at his arm. “I have to save Malusha.” The boy looked at me and I breathed in, lowering myself on one knee in front of him. I looked at his clear deep blue eyes and all of a sudden I knew what to say. “Dobrynya, you are a brave little boy, one day you'll grow up to be a great and wise, honored warrior. You will be the best and no one will ever harm your family again. You will be a protector of your land, your people, you will be a hero. I can feel that right here, inside of you, I feel the heart of a warrior, a savior, but you are not ready for that yet. I will go after them, and I promise, I will bring your sister back.” My hand pressed to the boy's small chest under his ripped and dirty shirt, and his clear blue eyes widened, peering into mine. "Who are you?" “Someone who always keeps a promise.” “I will do as you say...” “Sig, my name is Sig.” “Sig, will you to teach me to fight like you?” “After I find my friend and your sister I have some more unfinished business, when it's all done, I will come back here and teach you everything I know. You help your family rebuild this place and I promise I will be back.” “Sif, Sif! I fink I foun youl swold!” A little red-haired girl was pulling something out of the rubble with both hands and I rushed to her. As I stepped on the piece of the roof a loud moan came from under the debris, the wood pile moved and I quickly pulled the little girl away, handing her to her brother. “Bring me ropes, fast!” I raised the axe in front of me and carefully pulled my sword out of the pile. Another moan came from the rubble, and I stepped closer, pushing a chunk of the roof with my foot. The wood moved, revealing a blond head in a horned helmet. The barbarian's lips moved, releasing another moan. |

It is wonderful how she looks at her reflection thinking about the past, unsure of where she came from or where she is going and in all that uncertainty the thunder is the only familiar sound, making her heart jump. It is also wonderful how she then jumps into a familiar state of mind, when starting a fight with the Barbarians, protecting the innocent. The way she suddenly becomes so confident, precise, strong... The description of the battle is breathtaking, her moves coming across like a subtle, delicate, yet deadly dance. Not only does she save the family, she discovers a new hero in the making, Dobrynya Nikitich standing in front of her, still unaware of the heroic future that lies ahead. And then... /hyperventilates/ and then the blond Viking bursts in. /hyperventilates some more/ and the roof collapses on him. And she ties him up. And... MORE!!! ![]() |

Great update as always! I like Astrid's spontaneous reactions. She is brave and the protector, maybe a little thoughtless. That is her nature. I liked how she fought with vikings and showed what means to be warrior woman. You have expanded the story with new characters. God, what a mess. Astrid will chase vikings to save the girls and Thor will chase Astrid to save her. Who will be faster? I am sure Astrid will succeed in her mission, but Thor... how will he rescue a woman who handles a sword so well. More!

Thank you girls!!! Love you!!! @ Tiff. hehehehehehe @ Bo. Don't hyperventilate yet! @ Maja. All will be open in this update! Okay, so... I think it's time to get it all out in the open! (Thor's POV) I opened my eyes and closed them again when the bright light brought my headache to its peak. My arms felt numb and were pressed to the ground somewhere under my body, I tried to move them but something was holding them in place. I pulled harder and something tight dug into my skin. The events that happened right before I was hit on the head slowly floated into my fogged up mind. Astrid killing the viking and escaping through the window... Astrid! I opened my eyes, squinting at the bright sun, and tried to move again with the same results. “What the fuck?” “Where is your ship, viking?” The metal notes in the oh so dear to me voice brought another wave of pain to my temples, but my heart jumped with happiness. “Oh thank Odin!” I sat up, looking at the best ever sight in front of me. My little Valkyrie alive and completely unharmed and... holding an axe to my chest. What...? No it's all wrong! “I am your friend, I'm here to save you!” “What?” She looked at me, clearly puzzled, and I tried to free myself from whatever was holding my arms behind me. “I'm here to save you from the mortals! I'm Thor, I came here to rescue you!” Astrid looked at me for a second in complete silence, her eyes narrowed and I held my breath, as her lips parted. “Thor... The viking's God?” Her eyes turned cold as she sighed. “Great... he lost his mind.” “I'm not crazy!” I tried to move and fell back to the ground, rolling to the side. “Why am I tied up?” “Because you are my prisoner.” Her foot pushed me back to my previous position. “Prisoner? Why?” I managed to sit up again.“I'm not your enemy!” “Sure you are, you tried to kill me.” Her eyes darkened, and I struggled against the ropes. “I wasn't! I was trying to help you!” “By pointing your sword at me? Weird way to help someone.” “It's the truth! I am Thor, and you are a Valkyrie! You fell from the sky and lost your immortality! I'm here to get you back to Asgard!” “Uh huh... so, if all that is true, why don't you use your divine powers and get yourself free.” I pulled on the ropes and lowered my head with a sigh. “I can't, my powers are bound...” “Right...” Her eyes smirked at me and I looked at the axe in her hand. “I can prove it, I am who I say I am! Use that axe and try to cut me, Gods don't bleed!” She quickly stepped forward, and sharp pain on my shoulder was followed by burning and something wet slid on my skin. “You're bleeding.” Astrid tilted her head. “What? That's impossible!” I looked at the fresh cut on my shoulder and moved my eyes to the blade in her hands. “That's your sword! A Valkyrie’s sword! It's an immortal weapon, of course it would make me bleed! I said use the axe!” She stepped forward and placed her sword to my neck. “Enough of that! All I want from you is to know where your ship is!” Her eyes glared into mine. “I have no ship and I'm not crazy! You are a Valkyrie and I'm Thor and I'm here to save you.” Shit! This is so not how I imagined our meeting to be! I was supposed to be the one saving her, not being tied up and questioned! “And I'm running out of patience and time talking to you! Where did your men take my friend?” “You mean the nymph?” Maybe that would make her believe me. “What?” Astrid's face drew closer. “Yes, I know she's a nymph, not human. Now do you believe me?” The dear to me eyes darkened, contradicting with the reaction I was waiting for. Another sigh escaped Astrid's chest. “That beam must've been pretty heavy... I have no time for this madness.” She didn't know that? How is that possible? What the fuck!? Maybe the Satyr was mistaken... my lips breathed my thoughts out loud. “Your friend is a nymph, she has to be! Gemon was sure about it...” “And who is Gemon? Another one of your Godly friends?” “He's not a God, he's a Satyr, he helped me get to Midgard and find you!” “Satyr...” “Satyr, you know, half man half goat...” I saw her eyes smirking and bit my tongue. “Yep, completely insane. I have no use for you.” She turned around and started to walk away. Fuck... I think I just made it all worse... Son of a whore!!! What can I say to make her believe me? “Please believe me, I know it's sounds crazy but you really are a Valkyrie, your name is Astrid. We have been friends for thousands of years--” Astrid turned on her heels, her sword swiftly making its way to my chest. “My name is Sig, and I have only one friend. And I'm determined to save her and that is the only reason why I'm still talking to you. If you are worthless to me, then I will drive this sword through your black, barbarian heart. I have no mercy for robbers who attack a harmless family. You are still alive only because I need to find my friend, and unless you change your crazy mind and decide to help me, I have no use for you.” Her sword moved to the left side of my chest, pushing my cape aside. Immortality will not save me if the sword of a Valkyrie pierces my heart... I will die... it's an immortal weapon... I have to play along, if she believes that I'm with those who she wants to find... come on, Thor, think! I have to get her to the mountains... we will find the seed and she will remember... I just have to get her there... The tip dug into my skin and I drew back from the dangerous blade. “Wait, it's all coming back to me! I know where they went, they have a ship and it's very fast, we'll never catch up with them on foot, but I can take you straight you to their... I mean, my village. The river is winding, and if we cut through the forest, we'll get there before them. You can trade my life for the life of your friend.” Please fall for this... “I need to free her and the young girl that they took from this family, is your life worth two lives?” Astrid's eyes narrowed and I pulled as much of a pompous expression on my face as I could. “I'm the son of the king of my people, my life is worth many.” “Where is your village?” “North form here, in the mountains.” She's falling for it! Astrid looked into my eyes and I quickly continued, to make it all more real. “Your friend and that girl are safe until they get to the village, my men have orders not to harm slaves until they're delivered to my father. If we go straight north, we will be there before they arrive.” Astrid's sword came back to my chest and her face neared mine. “Know this, barbarian, if anything happens to my friend, anything at all, I will kill you.” She stepped to the side and pulled on my ropes, standing me on my feet. “Start walking.” A little girl ran to Astrid and pulled on her arm. “Sif, you will blin my sistel back, light?” “I will, little one, I promise.” Astrid's eyes warmed up looking at the child and I felt my heart skip. My little Valkyrie, she may have lost her memory, but she didn't change. Brutal with the enemy and kind with the ones in need of protection. And she counts me as her enemy... fucking awesome... |

So she tied him up. And he's trying to free himself. And they are still perfectly oblivious to the fact that they had tied up each other a long time ago, to each other. James' frustration is so perfectly captured. Sooooo James! And a great humorous moment with the truth sounding like the biggest lie ever. Wonderfully written! I enjoyed every word and simply jumped for joy at seeing them together, even in this messed up situation. So the journey begins! Yay! Let's see what lies at the end of the road. Who will be the savior and who the conqueror, who will win and who will lose, will the mortal world nurture immortal love? You know I love this with all my heart! More soon! Please!

@ Tiff. @ Bo. Sooo true...but he is James... I mean Thor, he wouldn't admit that so easily and she... she doesn't remember... LET THE FUN BEGIN! @Maja. I hope to make it interesting! Thank you girls! Thank you for sticking with me through that story and thank you for finding time to read and comment! Every word means a lot to me, you are the reason why I still post it here! Love you all!!! Okay, so... shall we see how our lovely couple cope with each other? XVI. (Astrid's POV) My legs were moving on their on, making their way through the forest, while my mind kept coming back to the barbarian's words. 'I'm Thor and you are a Valkyrie. I'm here to save you.' What if it's true? No... no, it can't be! It's too crazy! It's ridiculous to even think about it! I mean, come on, a powerless God? A Valkyrie who lost her immortality? A half goat, half man who told him that Lana is a nymph? It's like a fairy tale! It all came from his crazy mind! It just got under my skin because I'm searching for my past. Look at the facts. Fistful, Lana would've told me if she was a Nymph. She would've know it and she would've had powers. Second, if I was a Valkyrie, I would've had powers too, not mentioning my memory. He said lost immortality, not memory. And that barbarian failed his own proof. He said Gods don't bleed and he did. So according to him we have three divine deity with no powers. Three powerless supreme being just walking the land, two of them have no idea what they are. How convenient is that? Even if he was who he said he is and all that is true, one other thing just doesn't fit. Thor is son of Svarog or Odin, the all-seeing God. And that almighty father just let me imprison his child? He did nothing when I was ready to kill his son? What about all other Gods? I'm pulling a captured God, who looks like a common thief, on a rope behind me, and all the other Gods just watch me doing it with no interference? Yeah... right. On top of that, just look at him! Worn out clothes, he doesn't even have a shirt on! Would God dress like that? Fuck no! Lana told me that almighty Perun, or Thor, wears shiny armor, his head is covered with a winged helmet and in his hand he wields a mighty hammer. This barbarian has none of that! I can't believe I'm still thinking about it! Lana is captured, somewhere scared and maybe hurt and I'm thinking about the words of a crazy barbarian! I yanked the rope and the voice behind me growled. “I'm not a horse, stop pulling.” “Then walk faster!” “I'm walking as fast as I can being tied up all the way to my knees!” I turned and looked at my prisoner. His hands were still tightly tied up behind his back, the rope I was pulling him with was still on his neck, but the one from his shoulders had slid down to his hips, hanging half way to his knees. “How did you do that?” I quickly made my way to him. “Magic.” He smiled at me as my hands tied the rope back in its previous place, tightening it around his shoulders. “Let's see if your magic can get you out of this.” I pulled on the end of it with all my strength and his body neared mine. “I have to able to breath, you know.” Blue eyes drew closer, and my hand slid on the end of the rope, ending up on his open chest. His eyes met mine, making my hand freeze in place. His eyes... Why are they so blue? And so clear... too clear for a common thief... My heart skipped and started beating faster. What if... “You need to take care of your trading goods.” Blue eyes pulled me in and my mind screamed through the thickening fog. No! Stop it! He is a robber, an unworthy criminal with a black heart! I moved my hand off and turned away. He was part of that group, that is a fact. I saw hatred in the eyes of those farmers when they were looking at him. That beam just mixed a few marbles in his head and he blabbered out a crazy story, and I'm stupid to keep thinking about it! I gripped the rope, throwing it over my shoulder, and pulled. “Move.” “You don't need a rope, I'd go with you on my own will.” “Shut up, barbarian and walk faster.” “Would you stop calling me that!” “You are a barbarian, only barbarians can attack women and children.” I yanked the rope. And no blue eyes can clear the facts. I pulled on the rope again and a sigh came from behind me. “Slavs are enemies of Vikings...” I turned and looked at my prisoner. “A teenage boy? A father who was protecting his family? A woman and a bunch of kids? I'm beginning to understand why people hate vikings.” I turned and continue to walk. Lana said I may be a viking... one of them. I'm not! “Vikings are honored warriors.” Came form behind. “Honored warriors do not attack women and children, barbarian.” I yanked the rope and sped up. “Would you stop with the barbarian thing! I have a name, it's Thor.” “You are not a God, I'm not a Valkyrie. I will not call you God's name. I will call you...” I turned and looked into his eyes. “I will call you.... he who supplants. It fits since you insisting of taking the place of another. So, I will call you James.” “I'm not taking anyone’s place, I am Thor! And you are Astrid!” “One more word about that crazy story of yours and I will leave you here, tied up to a tree! You are not a Thor and my name is Sig.” I turned away and started walking. “They called you Sif.” I felt a pull on the rope and yanked it again. “It's Sig, the little girl just had a lisp.” “I will call you Sif. It fits as... she who is a Stubborn and Ignorant Female.” I felt a smile in his voice and yanked the rope again. “My name is Sig. Sig with a Ge.” “And mine is Thor! Thor with a ROR!” The voice behind me growled making me smile. “Whatever, James.” “Fine, Sif!” Came from behind. |

Thank you girls!!! So... As much as I hate to leave those two... I need to continue with the story. I hope you are wondering what happened to our Lana... Her turn! (Lana's POV) I tried to move, but something was holding my arms and legs bound. My eyes flew open staring at the three trunk in front of me. What happened? Where am I? Where is Sig? I pulled my head up, turning left and saw something white with brown on the ground half hidden form my view behind the big tree. I looked closer, recognizing the dress of the farmer's girl. My memory slowly revived the events. I was running through the woods, pulling crying farmer girl with me... The sound of horse hooves came from behind us and her hand was ripped away from mine... someone's hand gripped me, pulling up and throwing me over the horse... I fought against the iron grip. A deep set of gray eyes and a smirk on the face with a horned helmet, and then the broad handle of the sword hitting the side of my head... then... I don't remember clearly... I saw the ground passing by, somewhere below my head... horse legs moving fast, sending dust into my face... my braid jumping in the air between them... I closed my eyes, screaming for Sig... I remember being scared out of my mind and then... the horse neighed... the hooves flew up... my body slid, falling off and hitting the ground... I got up and ran and then... a deep voice swearing, pain in the back of my head and blackness... “I still can't wrap my mind over what happened there...” A deep voice came from somewhere near making me jump. I felt my heart beating fast somewhere in the pit of my stomach but overcome the fret, pulling myself on the ground to see where the voice came from. Two vikings were sitting by the fire, an older, hefty size warrior with dark hair, a bruised face, and a bloody wrap on his chest, and a thick build younger one, with dirty blond hair. I felt a wave of anger. That's the one who hit me! “I told you these woods are bewitched!” A young, skinny viking with red hair walked up to the fire and sat down with his back to me. “You and your stupid superstitions!” The dirty blond shook his head. “Superstitions? Look at everything that happened to us today! First Olaf's clothes, all of it just gone! Then a woman appears out of nowhere and kills Surt, Thorvald, and Herigar in minutes! A woman! May I remind you, those were great warriors! And she slayed them as if they were children!” The redhead argued. Sig! They're talking about Sig! She is a mighty warrior, I was right! My attention turned back to my captors. “...Surt could stand alone against seven men! I can't believed he died at the hand of a woman... what a disgrace...” The bruised barbarian spat into the fire and continued. “And the Hog brothers? They were with Ozur in the battle of Utterby, in front of the lines! Not to mention, she wounded me as if I'd never handled a sword before! I mean, it was like fighting air, she moved so fast, my every hit was worthless! And then, thanks to you, she knocked me out with your axe! I can't believe I lost to woman! Me, who can drop a horse with a fist! It's just not right...” The wounded barbarian gulped his drink. Oh, thank the merciful Gods, Sig killed a few of them! But... where is she? The raspy voice continued. “And then, whoever the fuck that viking with her was! I'm telling you, there are witches at play here. We need to get our asses out of these woods as soon as possible!” The redhead stood up, throwing another log into the fire and I held my breath. A viking with her? Wait... what viking? “Bull shit, there are no witches!” The dirty blond glared at his friend. “I'm telling you, that woman was a witch, I felt that, right here, in my gut.” The redhead's fist stopped by his stomach. “What you felt was your shit turning with fear.” The bruised barbarian smirked and the redhead blew up. “My axe never misses! Never! You all know that! But she.. she just...” He gripped his head and sat back down. “She just... her eyes... when she looked at me I... I'm telling you man... something came over me, paralyzed me.” “You just shit your pants when she caught your axe in flight, I saw you, you just stood there instead of helping me!” The bruised viking barked out and the dirty blond smirked. “You were expecting him to help you? It's Skalk! He prefers to fight from a distance, never engaging the enemy face to face.” “You don't get it, man, her eyes, they reached all the way to my soul and... Fuck... I never felt such overwhelming, overpowering fear before...” The redhead shook his head. “Fear? You don't deserved to be called a Berserker for words like that!” The bruised viking spat again and stood up. “I don’t even want to sit at the same fire with you!” “And what are you going to do, start another fire on the other side of this valley?” “I just may!” The dirty blond frowned, watching his friend walk away and raised his voice. “Stop it you two, I swear to Odin, you are like children! Ingvar, come back here and sit your ass back down! So Skalk shit his pants, what's new?” “I'm telling you, she was a witch of some kind! She used magic on me.” The redhead argued. “Yeah, right...” The bruised viking smirked and the dirty blond stood up. “Listen you two. Ingvar, you better cool off and Skalk, you better shut the fuck up. You were the one who dragged us into it.” “Me? Why me?” “You said you 'saw' a small figure by Olaf, before you passed out that night. I looked there, there were no foot prints where he was sleeping, only hooves. You probably saw a fucking dear! But you kept insisting that it was human. You were also the one who said it was a child from that family. Gods know Surt always trusted you, because you were the best friend of his son! But Surt is gone, so is Jonakr. I'm in charge now and you better listen to me.” “And why is it that you're in charge?” The bruised viking looked up. “Because neither of you two are fit for it. You are wounded and Skalk is a chicken shit, who is only brave against teenage boys!” “He had an axe!” The redhead raised his voice and the bruised viking smirked. “A wood chipping axe.” “Still a weapon. And I did see a small figure by Olaf! And those strangers were witches or spirits!” The redhead crossed his arms over his chest and sat down. “Bull shit, they were flesh and blood people.” The wounded barbarian growled. “Who can fight like that? A woman who can kill three mature vikings in the blink of an eye and a guy who sliced Hord in half in one swing of his arm, while running by? He didn't even stop, he didn't even turn to see if he succeeded, he knew! I never saw anything like that... I never saw a sword going all the way across the body with such ease... like it was made of butter...” The redhead lowered his face. Who was that viking they keep talking about? Where did he come from? “He was pretty strong I'll give him that, but in the end he's dead. So is that woman. Neither of them came out from under that rubble. They are dead, that means they were flesh and blood like us.” The dirty blond threw another log into the fire and my heart flopped somewhere into the pit of my stomach. Dead... Sig is dead? No... she can't be... no... I felt my tears spilling out of my eyes and running down my cheek, as my throat closed up with a lump. I bit into my lip, but the weak moan still made it's way out. The barbarians grew quiet, turning my way and I closed my eyes. “What about her?” The raspy voice of the redhead continued. “What if it was her, who made your horse crazy?” Wait... me? Are they talking about me? I didn't do anything... “The horse was just spooked by something in the woods.” The deep voice answered. “Or so you think... I'd say she did it.” The raspy voice argued and I carefully opened my eyes. “And then let me catch her so easily and spend all day passed out? Some witchcraft...” The dirty blond smirked and the bruised barbarian mirrored his smile. “It was a bad idea to take her with us. What if her friends are alive? What if they follow us? We haven't seen their bodies...” They haven't seen her dead! I felt hope raising up in me, making my heart skip and lips silently mouthed. 'Oh please be alive... please be alive.' “They were buried under that house!” The dirty blond barked back, shattering my hope in pieces and it heavily dropped down, pulling my heart with it. “I still think we should just kill her while she's out, she already cost us a horse, I don't want to wait and see what she would do next.” The redhead whispered, turning my way and I quickly closed my eyes again. “Fear is clouding your mind.” A deep voice growled. “I'm telling you, kill her before she wakes up and shows us what else she can do!” Oh Gods... they're going to kill me, aren't they? “The horse just got spooked, and the girl has no weapon, plus she's tied up!” The deep voice answered. “She was with those two, I would take that fact seriously. Kill her before it's too late.” The raspy voice insisted. “No. She can tell us who her friends were and where they're from. We, Berserkers would not tolerate another 'happy to trade with everyone' clan! We are the true vikings, we live and rule by raids! If there is an another viking clan, besides Varyags who takes the Slavs side, Ozur needs to know about it. She will tell us who they were and where they came from.” “Right... You just got bewitched by her beauty! Those white as a swan's feathers hair of hers! You want to keep her to yourself! I'm telling you, she will kill us all...” “Would you shut up and stop being such a pussy! She's just a girl! Nothing more!” “Kill her, who knows what kind of powers she--” The raspy voice started and the deep voice interrupted. “Enough! She's mine and no one will touch her.” “I'd like to hear you say that once Ozur lays his eyes on her.” A lower voice smirked and the deep voice answered. “He can't have her, I'd fight to claim her as mine.” “Speaking of Ozur, what are we going to tell him? I mean... our story is not really a glorious one... he will be furious...” The lower voice came back after a minute of silence. “We'll tell him that we were ambushed by another clan of vikings who fight on the side of the Slavs. We'll tell him that we were outnumbered and five of our warriors died an honorable death. We will also say that we killed them all and took those two women that were with them.” The voice of the dirty blond answered. “And what if those girls tell the truth?” The lower voice asked. “They won't, they will be silent.” The deep voice answered. “The framer's daughter is one thing, but the other...” The raspy voice argued. “There are many ways to make slaves silent, Skalk. Fear is one of them, pain is another. But together... fear of pain works every time. Why do you think my women are so obedient? She will do as I say.” The deep voice pushed my heart beating fast somewhere in my temples and I swallowed. What can I do? I need to do something... The face of my friend rose in my mind and I swallowed another strain of tears. Sig... “Well, lets find out how that would work, right now!” The raspy voice sounded taunting and I swallowed. I have to do something... what would Sig do? Kill them, save the other girl. How? I'm tied up... I can't do anything, I'm worthless! I bit my lip and tried to free my hands, but the rope just dug in deeper. “Fine!” The deep voice shouted and I felt my stomach dropping down in fear. Shit! I need to do something! Right now! What can I do? Nothing, I can't do anything! I'm not a warrior, I'm no a match for them! I don't even know how to use sword, even if I had one! A callused hand gripped my wrist, yanking me up, and I winced, dropping out of my thoughts. My eyes flew open, staring right into the steel gray, deep set eyes of the dirty blond. “Where did you and your friends come from?” I swallowed and he jerked me closer to him. “Speak, slave!” Behind his face I saw the scared face of the redhead, and then it hit me. Fear! One of them thinks Sig was a witch, lets enforce that! At the very least it would give me time to come up with something more useful. “You better run and hide, because the mighty Sigred is coming for your souls! She will rip your hearts out and cut off your heads!” I tried to put as much darkness in my voice as I could. I saw the redhead's eyes widening as he stepped back, the bruised barbarian gripped to his sword, but the dirty blond smirked. “Cute. I'm shaking in my boots.” His hand gripped tighter into my shoulders. “Now, answer me!” “You'd better untie me and let me go free or you will witness my fury!” I growled and his eyes narrowed. His fist came from the side, twisting my jaw with a sharp pain and throwing me to the ground. The iron grip returned, pulling me up and tightened on my upper arm, as cold gray eyes drew closer. “You listen to me, and listen very carefully, because I will only say it once.” One of his hands gripped my braid, yanking it back and I winced, barely holding my tears. “You will obey me.” His hand relaxed and slid down on my braid and I felt my anger and fear spilling out in a scream. “Let me go or I'll kill you!” His lips tightened in a thin line and his hand gripped the end of my braid, twisting it around my neck and pulling it up. I rose up on my toes, trying to breathe through my closing up throat and then... then something happened. The cold wind came from nowhere, sweeping the dust from the ground and moving the trees around us. Something bright flashed under the barbarian's hand and he winced, letting go of me and staring at his hand that was glowing blue. “What the fuck?” The dirty blond shook his hand but the light traveled up on his arm, quickly surrounding his body and he screamed at the top of his lungs. “Get this shit off me!” “Aaaaaa!!” The redhead gripped his head, and turned to run, but the light leashed out to him and the wounded viking, and all three of them listlessly dropped on the ground. The light flickered and disappeared, leaving the motionless bodies on the ground. I stood there, shaking and feeling my heart beating fast somewhere in my throat. What just happened? Did I really see all that...? It was magic... real magic... That light.. where did it come from? A soft light blinked somewhere below and I looked down. At the end of my braid, right where the barbarian's hand was gripping it, was barely glowing blue ribbon. A hot flash followed by cold chills and my mind slowly brought the images. My ribbon in Ivanko's hand... a wind... a flash of light and the branch falling on him... Stanislav's hand pulling my ribbon off... me closing my eyes... wind... and him in the swarm of bees... I felt chills running down my spine. My ribbon... they all touched it... and he... I looked at the motionless dirty blond. It's the ribbon!!! I breathed out and sat down, looking back at the motionless vikings. All this time people blamed me, but it wasn't me, it was the ribbon! Somehow... it... protects me... every time I feel strong fear and anger... and ribbon punishes the person who touches it! I took a deep breath and the dirty blond moved, rolling to his side. My heart jumped. He's not dead...? A loud snoring came from the body of the wounded barbarian, and I swallowed. They're just... sleeping? For how long? I better hurry! I looked at the ground and saw a sword by the bruised viking's hand. I stood up on my knees and made my way between my sleeping kidnappers to the blade shining in the light of the fire. Cutting the rope took longer than I expected, but I worked as hard as could, wincing every time the sword cut into my flesh. Once the rope was off my wrists, I cut my legs free, jumping with every loud snore that came from the barbarians. Taking no time to look for our belongings, I rushed to the farmer's daughter, shaking her shoulder. “Are you okay?” She opened her eyes. “It's you! Oh Gods! What happened? I woke up hearing the screams, but I couldn't see anything! Wait... you're free? How?” “I'll tell you later! We have to go while they're out.” I quickly cut the rope off her feet, moving behind her to free her arms. A loud snore made me speed up my movements. “Come on, we have to go! Hurry!” I pulled her up and she winced, as I gripped her wrist. “Ouch... it hurts!” “Sorry! We need to hurry, we'll take the horses, they will never catch up with us. Come on!” We quickly saddled the horses, hurried by snores that came form the bodies on the ground. A few minutes was all it took and we sent the horses into a gallop, riding away from our captors. |

Lana is a nymph - the barbarian (Thor (James)) was telling the true. She still doesn't know who she is, but her powers awakened and I have a feeling she will learn to use them soon. But the learning process will be interesting... I think. I am curious what is her future in this story.
