Thank you Bo!!! You got everything as always! I swear you read my mind! Well, we'll see about the blue... hehehehehe Love you, hunny!!! Okay, so this update is a long one, I couldn't make it shorter... just too much I needed to put in it. (Frigg's POV) Odin's chest rose up under my head and I felt him holding a sigh. His hand tenderly pressed me closer as he slowly exhaled. “I wish we could stay just like this...” “Me too, my love.” I breathed out into his chest, kissing his bare skin as he held another sigh. I lifted my head, looking into his blue eye and saw it tarnished with sadness. “What is it? What saddens you so?” “It's time for you to return to Asgard...” “I thought you wanted me to stay with you for a few days?” “How long do you think you were here, my love?” Odin pulled my hand to his lips, kissing it as a heavyhearted smile appeared on his lips. “One day and one night...” “In here... almost two weeks passed in the real world...” Odin sighed. “Almost two weeks!?” I jumped up, feeling the cold fingers of worry gripping at my heart. Two weeks! Thor has been in pain without me helping him through it for that long! Who knows what Balder and Loki are doing! My thoughts started jumping, bombarding my mind with more questions and heart sped up as my hands frantically pulled my dress on. Odin sat up with another sigh and looked up at me. “My love... before you leave... I just want to tell you... be strong and do what's right. Make the right decision, no matter how hard it may be for a mother.” I felt my heart drop with fear for my sons and held my breath, trying to read my husband's thoughts. “What decision?” Odin lowered his eye and stood up. “I'm sorry to put this on your shoulders... I wish I could come with you, but I can't... you have to make the choice yourself.” “What choice?” I breathed out, gripping to my chest as if to hold my pounding heart. He looked back at me, and shook his head. “You know I can't tell you that...” His hand neared my face, fingers tucked the unruly strand of my hair behind my ear. “Be strong, be a queen above all... and I know you will do the right thing.” “I'm not strong without you... Why can't you come with me?” I pleaded, feeling worry taking over me. “I can't... I must stay away... I had a vision... I don't know every step... I see the present events through my ravens and what is next in my dreams. It's very hard to do... seeing it all, knowing what is coming and unable to help... to do something about it... I knew sooner or later I would've had a weak moment... like the one I have right now. My heart bleeds knowing what burden I must put on your shoulders... I want to come with you, to protect you, to make that decision myself, but it has to come from you... your words must be brought to action. And I... all I can do is wait... wait till the end.” My husband sighed and lowered his hands, looking at me with sadness. “Odin...” He sighed, shaking his head and continued. “You see, my love... I sealed myself in here with a spell... so I wouldn't interfere. The spell can only be broken as it written in the runes. When the lost child make the voice of one to become many, when the heart make a choice loosing all for one, when the scarifies of one will awaken the lost power. I will walk free.” “What if that doesn't happen?” I feel my heart jitter and Odin peered into my eyes. “Then we have no future in our kids... all will be lost...” “Odin...” “You have to do your part, make your decision, and I know you will do the right thing. Now go, my love, go and be strong.” I turned on weakened legs, with worry for my sons weighing heavy on my heart and pushing me to them, through the fog, through the barrier. A hand on the door handle, a turn. My mind racing, heart screaming in fear, feet carrying me through the castle, past another door. Light wind moved my hair, body lifted up, flying after my motherly heart. Another open door, the longest hall, heavy heart, heavy thoughts, and the sight of blond hair spread on the silk fabric of the bed. “Thor... I'm so sorry I didn't come to see you for so long...” Blue eyes opened, looking at me. “Well, I'm still here, still powerless and bored.” “I was worried about you... you know you are not a prisoner, you can move freely in this realm...” “So everyone can see me diminished?” My eyes moved to the nightstand, to wine-filled goblets and a few wooden figurines. “Can I get you anything?” “I had a late night with Loki and Balder, playing Hnefatafi and drinking... I'm greatly tired, mother.” The blue eyes closed, hands pulled the cover over his shoulder. He doesn't want to see me, or talk to me... he's still mad at me... I stepped back and turned to the door. “Okay... you know where to find me if you need anything...” “I have everything I need in here, I'm fine.” I heard his voice, muffled by the pillow. I opened the door and stepped out, closing it behind me. The last time I saw him, he was all fire, screaming, begging, and arguing. He talked about nothing but the need to save Astrid, to go to Midgard and now... he just acts like a pouting child... not one word about his friend, not a question of how she is and if there is any news... I pushed away from the door and started my way back to my palace, stopping for a few short visits to gather the news. Neither of my other sons were home, Idun, my best friend was too busy, with her apple tree, talking about spring and flowers. Nothing had changed, nothing had happened in Asgard while I was gone, everything was the same, as though time hadn't even moved at all. When I passed the gathering square I saw Balder and Loki laughing at Vali, watching him show off in front of a group of young demigods and failing miserably to get on the back of the golden boar of Freyr. I sighed with relief, that they are okay, but as my eyes moved over the crowd, a wave of sorrow swallowed the easement as my eyes stopped on a group of giggling Valkyries. I felt another heavy pull on my heart, remembering Astrid. Poor girl.. alone somewhere, lost and already forgotten... I wonder how she's holding up... I need to see her. I walked through the hall, giving instructions not to be disturbed to my maids and quickly opened the bedroom door only to shut and lock it after myself. My feet carried me to a secret mirror, hands pulling the covers off and digging into the edge of the frame. “Show me Midgard, show me Astrid.” I breathed out upon seeing her smiling face. She was sitting at the table with a full plate in front of her and I lowered myself on the seat, relived that she's all right. Who is she with? I turned the mirror, moving it over the multiple faces at the table. I know that group... they call themselves Rus, others called them Varyags. The vikings who found that trade was as profitable as raids, who traveled far south and east from their homes. This one with dark hair is Truvor... my eyes moved to a boy, no more then twelve years old. Son of Rurik, Ingvar... “We are heading North, what about you?” I heard Astrid's voice. “It seems that Odin himself is helping you indeed. We going back to the north shore to meet our other brother, his ship should be arriving soon. You are welcome to come with us.” My eyes continued to the man who spoke. It's Helgi, teacher of Ingvar and brother in law to Truvor and Rurik, the one who spent his childhood with priests and learned to see unseen things... I turned my mirror back to Astrid. “I'm thankful for your food and your help. What brings your family here?” She finished her drink and lowered her cup to the table. “We are looking for a place to build a city, Holmgard. Which brings us to your story. You mentioned Berserks, where did you meet them?” “A day of travel, south from here.” A wave of a multiple voices rose around. “That is a bit too close to our settlement, don't you think?” “We should make a trip south and make sure it's secured.” “There is a Slav’s farm there... If you help them with the farm and offer protection, you would have a place for a stronghold post. It will benefit both sides... form the tactical point of view.” Another voice, muffled by food, rose up from the side, and Astrid's eyes slid to the opposite side of the table, looking at someone. Her short gaze was full of mixed feeling, but the burn of attraction made it's way through. She likes someone there? Who is she looking at? I turned the mirror again and my eyes stopped on blue eyes behind a raised drinking horn. Wait... that's... Blond waves moved and the hand lowered, revealing smiling lips, and I jumped up, gripping at the sides of the mirror with a loud gasp. “Thor?!?” I narrowed my eyes, watching my son break part of the chicken off and push it to his lips. “I just spoke to you, you were in your bedroom! Too tired to talk to me!!! How can you be in two places at once?!” That is why he never asked for anything, that is why he didn't want to talk to me! He already has everything he needs! He did what I strictly forbade him to do! He is impossible!!!! My mind boiled with anger and the heart of a mother skipped: 'He's there without powers...' But the anger pushed everything aside, spilling out. 'That means he had no means to get there on his own!Who took him there? Who dared to go against my word?' Wait... he can't possibly make it there so fast... even with the help. That means... that means it wasn't him I spoke to! Who was it fooling me in his form? The answer came up almost immediately. Loki! I stormed out of my room, feeling anger pounding in my head. My body elevated above the ground and sped up on the way back to Thor's place. My mind kept foaming up with fury. Making a mockery out of me! What do they think, they can do anything they want and nothing is taboo for them?! They disregard all rules and all warnings! How dare they?! I didn't bother to slow down and used my powers to open all the doors on my way, making them slam into the walls. “Loki!” 'Thor,' who was still in his bed, rose up on his elbows. “I think you came to the wrong house.” “Don’t you dare patronize me! I know it's you, Loki! I can't believe it, you defied my direct order like that!” “Um.. you keep calling me the wrong name, mother. I'm Thor, or have you already forgotten your powerless son's name?” The would be Thor sat up on the bed and rubbed his face with annoyance. “One more word, Loki, and so help me Odin! Turn back to yourself at once!” “I am myself!” He jumped up. “What's all this racket about? Uh.. Afternoon, mother.” Loki stepped through the door, shortly followed by Sigyn and Balder. “Mother has lost her mind and thinks I'm you.” The imposter stretched and reached for the wine goblet. I let the remark fly above my anger and breathed out. “Whoever you are, whatever you are, you are not my son.” “...and as if it's not enough to take my powers, now she's disowning me.” He took a sip. “My son Thor is in Midgard, I saw him with my own eyes, and you...” I stepped closer and pulled a feather of a falcon from my hair, dropping it on the head of the imposter. The wine goblet dropped down from his hand and onto the bed, coloring the silk red. The body in front of me shivered and split, spilling onto the floor in a shimmering puddle. “Water from a sacred lake...? A copy...” I slowly turned to Sigyn and she lowered her eyes, biting at her lip. Guilty. (Loki's POV) “Guards!” Mother's voice, even though not loud, pushed the windows open and two of her personal guards appeared by her side in the blink of an eye. Frigg pointed at Sigyn. “Take her to Skadi's cave, tie her to the rocks under the serpent's mouth.” As her words hung in the air, I felt my heart skip. No... it's not right... not my Sigyn... The guards made a move and Balder stepped forward. “Mother, wait. It wasn't her fault...” My heart jitter. No it wasn't, it was mine and only mine! “She is the only one who could've done this, no one else can make a copy from sacred lake waters.” I looked at mother's set to action expression and the worry filled face of Balder. My heart pushed. It was my idea, my fault... Sigyn just helped... but it was my plan... As the guards stepped closer to us, my body moved on its on, driven by the heart between them and my girlfriend. “You can't arrest her, mother!” I felt my heart pounding in my chest when mother's anger-filled face turned to me, her eyes almost physically pinning me in place. “First Thor, now you will tell me what I can and cannot do in my kingdom? Or have you already forgot how it ended for your brother?” “She didn't do anything, Balder is right, it's not her fault. I asked her to do it... no, I made her.” I stood my ground, taking another step, firmly placing myself in front of my girl. Mother's lips twitched, but Sigyn's voice rose from behind me. “No he didn't, none of them made me do anything. I did it myself and I will take full responsibility for my actions.” She stepped forward, passing me and my hand caught her's. “Sigyn don't... I can't let you...” Her green eyes warmed up and a light whisper blew over my cheek. “Loki, it's okay.. let it go, you can't lose your powers, not now...” Mother's voice sounded heavy and sad, but firm. “She admits her deed. Take her.” I felt Sigyn's hand slide out of mine and tried to stop her fingers, feeling my heart spasm. “Sigyn...” “It's okay, I've done my part... you need to be here... you need to protect Asgard, it's not over yet.” She smiled and lowered her eyes, pulling away and then... then something happened. I felt my heart pull, jerking and flopping around my ribcage. It heaved, hyperventilating, and split, leaving my mind screaming, but it was quickly drowned in a wave of something burning, something overpowering, something unstoppable. My legs moved on their own, lips opening to release words. “No, it's over. I can't let you do that... it's not worth it, it's too much... I'm stopping it, all of it, right now.” “Loki...” Her hand gripped at mine, but I stepped forward, turning to my mother. “I'm the only guilty one, no one else. It was my plan from the beginning. It's my fault that Astrid is stuck in Midgard, it was me who fooled her into making that wish. I needed Thor off this realm looking for her, and his powerless copy here, unable to protect Asgard...” “Loki! What are you saying? You did this? To Astrid? To your own brother?” Balder choked with outrage and mother sighed heavily. “I should've known...” She shook her head and I continued. “That's not all... A party of Lotuns will arrive soon through the hidden portal, they will be after their power source, knowing that neither Odin nor Thor are able to do anything. I was planning to stop them myself... to be a hero. I did it all for a moment of glory... so you see, mother, it's me you want, not her. I will take the punishment.” Frigg's eyes stared deep into mine and I saw them turn dark with grief, her lips quivered. “You have no idea now hard it is for me to do this... but you have to pay for what you have done...” She swallowed and lowered her eyes, spilling tears. “Take my son to carry out the punishment.” She turned and walked through the door with a lowered head, Sigyn ran after her. “My queen, let me go with him!” Mother stopped and shortly nodded without turning back and exited the room, Balder throw me an angry look and followed her out. The guards stopped by my side and I sighed, pushing a weak smile to Sigyn. “On the bright side, all the realms will be talking about me, hearing me scream...” Her eyes blinked tears off and she squeezed my hand in her's. “You didn't have to do that... come out clean like that...” “There was no other way. I tried to save you and you just jumped right after me, why? Wouldn't you rather be somewhere... away from the snake poison?” Green, tear-filled eyes sadly smiled back and a warm hand pushed into my palm, intertwining our fingers. “There is nowhere I'd rather be, but with you.” Her eyes pulled away to something on the table as guards escorted us through the hall and she quickly grabbed a scaly dish full of apples. Wait... what in the...? “You not planning dinner and entertainment, are you?” I felt a pin of disappointment, but she quickly came back to my side, sighing loudly. “Who knows how long we will be stuck there... I don't think the guards will disapprove if I bring a little snack.” And a barely there whisper into my ear. “It's made of fire snake skin, impervious to snake poison...” |

What a mess! Frigg and her boys. It isn't easy to be a mother and it is even harder when your boys are Gods. Boys will always be boys no matter what. If you leave them alone only for a couple of minutes, you can expect real destruction of things around them. I think after this Loki understood his feelings for Sigyn and her emotions for him. It is a funny thing, but from the beginning of this story, I read every update with Odin eyes. (Please, try to decode this sentence, you know what I mean.) I know everything what is happening in this story was predicted by him. I just try understand why. I guess this is his way to turn his sons from boys to men. Great update as always! |

WHAT AN UPDATE!!! WHAT AN UPDATE!!!! My heart is thumping in my ears of all the excitement! I read it in a single breath! Odin and the spell! That spell!!!! I guess Loki choosing love over power is one part. Now for the other two sons... Balder has yet to shine... (not that I'm pushing you or anything...) Three sons, three difficult roles to play, three difficult tests their father puts them through, but hey, all three of them will have love to lead them, push them, motivate them, make them do the right thing. For love is above all things. Love is Immortality. Never mind that rant, I'm feeling romantic tonight. Thor... your descriptions of him, dear Odin, they are killing me!!! Blond waves... lips drinking... those eyes... just... DEADLY!!!! And finally some explanation about the crew at the table. Poor Frigg. I feel for her. Those boys are trouble. And to do what you know it's right, even though it breaks your heart... ah, always the hardest thing for a mother to do. I like her character very much, that motherly note of hers, the right amount of protectiveness and compassion, but authority and determination as well, no wonder she has her own important role to play. And then Loki... I love that guy, I mean, that god. I'm sorry, but I do. He's just so wonderfully layered, complex, a bit fucked up, but growing with every update. Beautifully constructed character and also an important agent to get things moving here. This story gets better and better, I literally cannot wait to see what happens next!

OMG! Girls thank you so much!!! @ Maja. You right, it's not easy to be a mother... And, most of the time I see it from Odin's eyes too. I know, what's coming and how it will end, but the road is still uncharted, not clear, it takes unsuspected turns, new variations... (my muses some times decide to do something that I haven't plan... especially James.. I mean Thor and Astrid....lol ) I never know what exactly would come out from under my fingers, when I sit down to write a new update. I have an idea, of what I want to say, the way I want it to go, but some times something else comes out... @ Tiffany. I know, right? I can't imagine to be a mother of those three... they are all so different. But some times you have to punish them to teach them a lesson... no matter how hard it is. Thanks hunny! And thanks for poking me!!!! @ Željka. Well... you will get your answer in the next update! I plan another of Frigg's POVs... her going to Midgard... I'll say no more! @ Bo. LOL!!! Thank you!!! Stop reading my mind! As for...
He will, he is a God of light after all... But, seriously, I plan to write more about him soon!
Yep, the Varyags! The very ones that build the Homeguard and Novgorod! The ones that started Russia! You probably guessed that I used their real names, not the 'later versions' of more of a Russian sound names... hehehehe Ingvar is Igor I, son of Rurik, the Prince of Rus, ruler of Russia as Igor of Kiev (914–945) And Helgi is Oleg aka The Oleg of Novgorod, the one who laid the foundation of the powerful state of Kievan Rus. Supreme ruler of the Rus from 882 to 912. Also known as Oleg the Prophet. Frigg has no choice... as you will see later on... in the next update. As for Loki... tell you a secret... I love him tooo!!! Thank you all girls for reading, thank you for comments! Every comment is greatly appreciated and makes me write more! Love you girls!!! And now... more. Shall we see what is Lana up to? Hope you didn't forget about our little Nymph. XX. (Lana's POV) I stopped by a little creek to refill my almost empty water sack and my eyes stopped on a few pine cones on the ground. My stomach growled loudly, complaining about the lack of food and I picked them up, hoping that there were at least a few seeds that survived the hungry winter birds and squirrels. Just when I was ready to peel the dried prickly shell open a distant noise pulled my attention. The sound repeated and my heart jumped. Could it be Sig!? I dropped the pine cone and ran to the ongoing sound of breaking wood. My heart was pounding fast with happiness, but as I saw what was making the noise, it jumped and stalled with fear. A huge brown bear was ripping apart an old half fallen tree trunk. The wood gave in under his mighty claws, falling apart and revealing what the bear was after. My mouth watered at the sight of a golden honeycomb and I made an involuntary step forward. The snap of a broken twig under my foot sounded like thunder, and the bear turned, raising on its back legs and smelling the air. I froze, feeling chills crawling over my spine and was about to run, when his eyes stopped on me, weakening my knees. The bear dropped heavily on all fours and roared, but finding nothing to fear, returned to his find. My stomach growled as the brown monstrosity grabbed a mouthful of honeycomb, devouring them with a loud chomping sound. I swallowed, feeling lightheaded from the lack of food and quietly whispered. “I want to eat so badly... I know it's yours, but... if you just please leave me a little bit after you're done...” As if the bear heard me, he raised his head, smelling the air again and staring in my direction. Then he took a few steps back and shook his head, growling. I watch with widened eyes as he stepped a few more feet back and sat heavily on his rear on the ground with a whining growl. I stood there, not sure what to do, but my body made its own decision, pushing me forward and I made a small step. The bear loudly sniffed in my direction, but didn't move and I held my breath, making two full steps forward. He groaned softly, lowering his upper body to the ground. I swallowed and made a few more steps, stopping a few feet away from the golden combs. The bear lowered his head on top of his front paws and breathed out loudly almost like a sigh. The fear subsided under the push of hunger and I made a few more steps, reaching the mouthwatering gold. I kept my eyes on the bear, but he didn't move, just released another sigh, so I quickly broke off a few pieces and stepped back, bowing lightly. “Thank you...” I turned and started to make my way to my previous path, hearing another soft growl behind me, then the sound of paws and loud chewing. My whole body was shaking with a mix of adrenaline, excitement, and disbelief. That wasn't a dream, or a vision. My mind pushed with reassurance, pointing that I could feel the sweet sticky drops sliding between my fingers. The thought that it could've been my magic, or my ribbon magic, came up. Another thought followed, arguing that it could've just been the smartest and most generous bear that ever existed. Both floated on the surface, chasing each other, but quickly drowned, pushed by the hunger that raced a tidal wave of need to sink my teeth into the sweetness in my hands. As I walk forward, too busy with my food, and not paying attention to the surrounding area, a crunchy sound made me stop and look down. Something greenish-white crumbled, falling apart into powder under my foot, and my food distracted mind woke up. It's looks like... It's my paste! I put it on Sig's wound this morning, before we left the cave! I looked around and saw a charred circle from a campfire. She was here, they stopped here for the night! She didn't leave me, she is going north to find me! I'm on the right path, I just have to walk faster and I'll catch up with them! I smiled and let out a little scream of happiness. “Thank you Gods!” (Gemon's POV) The nymph stopped and started inspecting something on the ground, oblivious to my presence and I took the time to recap. So... she doesn't have her powers... I haven't felt them, neither did that bear. He would've never let her have his food if I hadn't ordered him to retreat. That's puzzling... and not possible! She should be older, much older... with her powers in full... How could this be? She was born hundreds of years ago and yet all I could sense in her is only seventeen full years of life... not possible. I scratched my beard and peeked at the nymph, my eyes scanning her face. There's no doubt now, she is who I thought she is... the spitting image of her mother... Aegle, the dazzling light... the youngest of the royal triad. I only met her in person once, but I would never forget that day... I rested my back to a tree, and let my mind pull the memories of the long gone past. I brought my son to the secret garden so he could see the Tree of Life. He was only a toddler, having not even started the power training yet. He gasped at the magnificence of Yggdrasil and foolishly stepped over the permitted line, drawn by the overwhelming call. I panicked, ready to scream at him, but Aegle appeared by him and smiled, giving me the sign of silence. Then, she took him all the way to the base of the tree, and placed his small palms on the holy bark. I held my breath in amazement, and almost teared up when the wide, euphoric smile speared on the face of my offspring. Aegle was the most kind, the most beautiful, so full of heart... everyone loved her... Tragedy, it was... when her family was killed on the most celebrated day, the day she became a mother... I lowered my face and exhaled slowly, returning my eyes to the young nymph as my mind took me to the black day. The cry of thousands of nature spirits filled the realms when we felt their souls returning to Yggdrasil. The cry lasted for hours, followed by the howls of wolves and the moaning of the trees. Nature itself was grieving. The flower heads hung down and the leaves wilted in the whole Garden of Life, the birds grew quiet, even the breeze ceased, not daring to move the sorrow filled air. We were all sure back then that we were mourning three beings... we just thought that we couldn't distinguish the soul of the baby, because it was only a few hours old. No one knew if it would feel different.. no one ever witnessed the death of such a young nymph before... and no one ever questioned it... Nature spirits don't leave their bodies when they die... in a few minutes they disappear, turning into a shimmering fog. All three of them were gone... no one thought that one survived... I looked at Aegle's daughter and smiled. And there she is... unexplainably young... as if she was lost in time for hundreds of years and somehow turned up in Midgard... What happened? How did it happen? The questions pushed, straining my mind and I rubbed my head. Well, I doubt she can tell me. The little talk with the farmers added to the picture, completing it in full. She has no idea who she really is. That little boy was right... she ran because she was afraid they may harm her. Fear... a human reaction... None of the divine spirits fear anything in this realm, we know nothing here can harm us. Mortals on the other hand... I smirked remembering my little encounter with the family, and let my mind retreat into earlier events. All day, since I parted ways with the Son of Odin, I was thinking of my discovery in the cave. I continued my work on the burned field, but my mind refused to concentrate on anything else but the magnitude of that find. I argued with myself all night, turning and twisting on the soft grass bedding and finally had decided to find out the truth once and for all. I needed to find out who the mystery Nymph was and why she had royal blood. I needed to see her for myself. I went after Thor, following his path, and at sunrise I came to the farm. The scent of the nymph stopped at the forest line, but I found two more trails that led in different directions. I returned to the one that I was following, looking closer at it. She stopped here... then turned to go back, and then.... horse prints..? She got on the horse... and took off... that way... hm... a heavy horse... very deep imprints... carrying two riders? And here, another line of horse prints... leading here... that one was fresher one... and lighter... one rider... but her scent... she came back alone? No... there was another horse walked here... Puzzled with the multiple trails, I decided to see if I can find anything on the farm. I wasn't planning to communicate with mortals, I knew they couldn't see me, unless I let them. The scent of the nymph brought me to a barn and I discovered the bedding and the bags, that were unmistakably hers, but she wasn't there. I thought that all of that pointed to her human behavior, as if she thinks she is one of them. Human clothing, human things... dried out herbs... My mind was trying to figure out why she had all those things, when I overheard the arguing outside. A young boy was insisting on going after someone called Lana. “I have to find her, it's my fault that she's gone!” “You are not going by yourself!” “I have to! She helped us, she saved Malusha and I repaid her by chasing her away, it's not right!” “No one chased her away, she left on her own!” I stepped out of the barn and leaned on the side of the pillar. Interesting... wonder what happened here? The boy was sitting on the horse, pulling the harness out of the hands of an older woman and a teenage girl. The strong family resemblance and the age of the women left no doubt that it was a mother and a sister. “She heard me and you talking, she probably thought I was planning to harm her! To prove who she is! She needs to know it's not so! Let me go!” The boy insisted. Hm... to prove who she is... could it be he's talking about the one I seek? “No! You are nothing but a boy who believed this crazy story about forest spirits and Gods among us! Dodrynia, they were just people!” The mother gripped at his leg. “No, they weren't! Why don't you believe me!?” “Because it's foolish!” The older woman screamed and three small kids started to cry, clinging to her skirt. “I told you, Gods don't walk the land!” The younger woman spat out and I smirked to myself. Or do they? Ignorant humans... they have no idea of what they can't see... “Yes they do, they did! I have to tell her that I'm sorry, that I scared her! I have to! I'm going after her and you can't stop me!” The boy pushed his mother's hands off his leg and she screamed. “Dobrynia! I said no! Don't you dare!” Hm... The last thing I need is a little boy in my way... that would be most... Before I completed my thought, he managed to pull the harness out of the younger woman’s hands and kicked the horse's sides. Yeah... I can't let you follow her. I quietly whistled and the horse rose on it's back legs, then dropped them down and froze in place. “Come on Buyan! Come on!” The boys heels dug into the horse's sides, but the animal didn't move, just turned its head, looking at me. Good. Let's hope you won't think of following her on foot... “Come on!” The boy hit the sides of the horse again and again, and the steed danced with its back legs, shaking his head and loudly snorting. I frowned. Stop hitting it, you little bastard, it won't go, I won't let it. I whistled again and the horse nodded and laid down. “See! Even the horse doesn't want you to go!” The mother stepped closer, pulling the boy off the saddle. He pushed out of his mother's arms, looking around, as if searching for someone. “It's not the horse... Lana...? Can you hear me? Lana, I know it's you who commanded Buyan, please show yourself, please let me explain. I meant no harm to you, I'm forever thankful to you for saving my sister, please don't be mad at me.” “Now you're talking to the air? You are crazy!” His sister hissed and their mother sighed. “Son, please stop this madness... you are scaring me. There is no one here but us...” How sure are we about that? I smiled to myself. Typical human reaction, can't see anything, that means there is nothing there. So primitive, so near-sided... “I'm not crazy, I'm not! She is here, she stopped the horse, I know she did. Lana, please forgive me, please show yourself, I beg of you!” The way the boys voice sounded with such deep belief, with so much hope in his little heart, I couldn't help myself and snapped my fingers in the air, revealing myself and stepping from the shadow of the pillar. “She didn't stop the horse, I did.” “Oh my dear.... ljeschi...” The older woman gasped and covered her mouth with her hand, stepping back. The sister turned and retreated, tripping over the horse's legs and dropping on her rear on the ground. She opened her mouth, which never released a ready to come out scream, and froze like that. The little kids hid behind his mother, but curiosity pushed their heads to peek at me. The boy gasped, but stood in place, his lips opened, then closed, eyes peering into mine as he whispered. “Are you a....” He swallowed. “Are you... Gemon? The one who the viking's God talked about?” In the corner of my eye I saw the mother gripping her chest and the younger woman covering her mouth with both hands. “Aye...” I took a step forward and the boy breathed in and swallowed again, but didn't stepped back. “Is Lana here with you?” “No, just me.” “Lana... she's...” He lowered his eyes and looked back at me. “She's gone... isn't she?” He swallowed one more time. “She left because of me... she was afraid...” He lowered his head and drew quiet. “Nonsense. Why would a divine spirit who posses magic be afraid of a little mortal boy? She left because she needed to go, not because she feared you.” I smirked. She did run out of fear, but those mortals don't need to know that... The boy lifted his eyes to me. “Can you tell her that I'm forever grateful to her for saving my sister?” “As soon as I find her. Now, which way did she go?” The boy gave me a long look before speaking. “You haven't ask me about the others... You came here looking for her, and only her, didn't you?” “I know where the others are. Tell me which way the nymph went.” My voice came out louder than I planned, showing off my impatience. The boy was about to answer, he opened his mouth and then something changed in his look. “You said she wasn't afraid of me... but she left in a hurry, leaving everything... left in the middle of the night... like she was running from something... or someone...” His eyes narrowed, staring right into mine. That little clever shit! He found the weak spot in my explanation. Well... I can just sprinkle some of my sleeping powder on him and he'll think this all was a dream.. and hypnotize him into telling me what I need to know. I don't even know, why I bothered to talk at all, must be getting old and sentimental... he does remind me on my son when he was younger, same stubborn look. I couldn't fool him with a lie either, he always questioned all of my stories. As I was trying to figure out what the best way to deal with this, the boy spoke again. “How do I know she wasn't running from you?” He rose his chin. What? You little bastard! No respect for a demigod, not mention the age! I frowned and the boy's mother reached her hand to him, shaking her head with terror in her eyes. “Dobrynia, for the love of Gods, don't make him angry! Tell him!” At least the mother has the right reaction! I was about to teach the boy how to properly speak to higher beings and already reached to my pouch with the sleeping powder, when I heard his little heart beating fast in his chest, almost jittery. Hm... the heart never lies... he is clearly terrified of me... but not showing it... The boy's words came out strong and clear, contradicting his heart. “Not until I know he's not the one she was running from. She saved Malusha and I will do everything I can, to help her.” I looked into his darkened eyes and almost smiled. Oh dear Odin... this little mortal is prepared to protect that Nymph, even in front of someone bigger, someone with magical powers... someone he's very afraid of... Wow... “She didn't run from me, I mean her no harm.” My voice softened. “You swear?” The boy's eyes peered into mine. I can smite you with a flip of my fingers... I can make your animals attack you, I can make this whole farm go out of control... you know all this, and yet you still standing up to me for her... for someone who's not even your kind, someone you only knew briefly... Now that deserves respect. “I give you my word.” I smiled in the face of such bravery. “Swear.” He stood his ground. “May the lightning bolt of Thor, or as you call him, Perun split me in half where I stand if I'm lying.” I stated my swear and the boy's eyes widened. “Pe... Perun? But Thor is... he's vikings' God...” He looked at me and the heart in his chest jumped and sped up. “You mean...” I shook my head. Mortals... I think it's time for a little lesson. This young one deserves to have his eyes opened to how things really are. “Gods are Gods, they have many names. They didn't exactly come down here and introduce themselves to everyone. They help some people, punish others, but they don't interact with mortals that often. It all started with those who did get the privilege to have an encounter with Gods, they told stories... those stories traveled through the lands, changing hands, changing names... Humans have a habit of making Gods theirs... making them closer, giving them names that sound strong in the language of the different tribes, taking on the looks of those mortals, even changing the weapons to what is used in that area... But in reality... Thor, Perun, Dietrich, Donar, Catequil, Indra... are all just a few of names of one God, the one who visited your farm.” Both women gasped, the mother dropped on her knees, gripping her chest and the sister joined her. The boy slowly got down on one knee and placed his hand on his pendant, whispering. “Almighty Perun, forgive me my ignorance and my blindness and my actions. I in no way meant to anger you or be disrespectful. I'm at your mercy, do as you please with me...” I smiled and pulled the boy up. “I'll put in a good word for you. You have a brave heart and a lot of courage. Now, tell me which way the one I seek went.” “North... She was going to find her friend, Sif...” He swallowed, and his eyes warmed up. “Or as Perun called her... Astrid... The Valkyrie...” “Thank you Gods!” My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the voice of the Aegle's daughter and I frowned, pulling away form behind the tree. “Everyone is always thanking the Gods. Gods did nothing to help you. The only God that is here now is powerless like a new born and the others don't even know you are exist.” I muttered under my breath and slid my hand on my beard. Speaking of Gods... they need to know... I need to somehow send a message to Sigyn... or I could send one to Odin himself... no... that's too high for an old goat like me... I don't think I would dare... plus he would ask me how I found her and I wouldn't be able to lie to the God of Gods... Sigyn it is. I watch the figure of the nymph vanishing into the forest, and come out on the open. Okay, so now I know she is going North, there will be no problem of finding her, when I need to... better not to interfere yet, not until I know what to do. I have to wait till I talk to Sigyn, meanwhile I have a job to do. I sighed and snapped my fingers, returning to the death valley in the blink of an eye. |

She still doesn't believe who she is, even if all of signs are there! She still have that inner struggles in her. Gemon's POV, oh my...The dialogue between him and the boy. The way he looked at the boy but not just at him, at the mortals in general then seeing that courage in the boy.. Perfect! I don't know why but this caught my attention:
Like I told you..this story is a pure perfection! Every little detail of it! *What's happening with |

I can't help it - golden honey - golden locks of hair, golden the hue of light, sweet is the honey on her lips.... yeah. you know what I mean. That said, AMAZING!!! Simply amazing update!!! The realms you take us to, the power of your imagination, the intricate links, the hidden signs, the references to history and legends... again, it's amazing. Amazing writing, amazing plot, amazing characters, each with such an important role to play and each portrayed so skillfully. I bow to you, the master of masters! I cannot get enough of this story!!! Gemon's unexpected POV so essential! And now I'm again seriously intrigued by Lana's destiny, why is she where she is right now, why was her family killed, why was she saved? Love is immortality, so was it love that saved her, perhaps love yet unbeknownst to many, but written somewhere in Odin's long made plans... The exchange with Dobrynya, the boy's legendary courage already so dominating his little person, that part was beautiful. And the absolute winner:
If only people remembered that more often... I wish I could write a more meaningful comment that would reflect the real extent of my admiration! I'm too emotional right now, having just read this, so sorry Wonderful, beautiful, perfect!

@ Željka. Thank you hunny!
Well, we are what we are...we don't see things and think there is nothing there if we can't see it... but.. yeah I believe that in reality there is so much more there... out of our grasp... and that part you are quoted, that is what I think about Gods, God and religions in general.
Why? You miss them already? lol Well, then, this update will give you a sneak peak at them... through the mother's eyes. @ Bo. Thank you!!!
You will know it all soonish.... hehehehehe
I love our iconic Slavic heroes, the Russian bogatyrs! I just had to put Dobrynia Nikitich in my story! @ Tiffany. It was very effective! And, thank you! Love you girls!!! Okay, so you all want to know about James.. I mean Thor and Astrid, so... here is a glimpse of them, through the mother's eyes. XXI. (Frigg's POV) Absolutely heartbroken by what I had to do to Loki, and at the same time infuriated by his deed, I slowly made my way to the Bifrost. Heimdall rose his eyebrow and moved aside without saying a word as I opened the portal and stepped through. The funnel twisted and turned, the wind whistled in my ears, and the clouds thickened before melting away and leaving me in the form of the falcon in the blue sky of Midgard. Lets finish it all. My wings swiftly carried me to the lake and I saw Truvor's ship closing in to the north shore. My eyes quickly found Thor's figure by the mast and I landed on beitass a few feet in front of him. Time for you to return home my son, and find out the painful truth, that your own brother used you and your friend for his game... “Thor, I'm taking you back.” I sighed and continued. “There are things you need to know, things that will sadden and angry you...” He didn't turn and I signed again with realization that he couldn't see or hear me without his powers. Should I reveal myself... or just make him disappear? No... too many mortals around... I should wait till he's alone and no one is looking... no need to worry their weak minds, none of this concerns them. I moved closer to my son, and my motherly eyes scanned over his figure. I can't believe he's wearing this human clothing... “Just look at yourself. All dirty, hair is a mess... And where is your shirt may I ask? What were you thinking? This is not the image of a God you should present to the mortals!” I shook my head, but my son's blue eyes passed right through me, and I frowned with annoyance. “And what is it you keep staring at?” I turned, following his meditative gaze, and feeling of sadness extinguished my irritation, making me release a slow sigh. Astrid was standing at the bow of the ship, looking forward over the waters. Her hand slid on the heavily carved wooden railing and eyes moved, following her fingers through the weaving lines. She stepped closer, whispering something to herself and shook her head, turning back to the water and my heart sunk. Poor girl... she doesn't remember what those symbols are... doesn't remember her life.... who she is... it must be a terrible feeling not knowing your past, not remembering anything before the fall... “I'm so sorry... my son did this to you... you have no idea how sorry I am...” I felt a heavy pull on my heart and sighed again. Okay... one thing at the time, bring Thor back to Asgard and then... then talk to Odin. He is the only one who can give her her life and memory back. She was fooled, she didn't know what she was doing, she was just used as a lure to get Thor away form Asgard. Loki picked her only because he knew that Thor would never leave his best friend in distress... much less a woman friend. Besides, Odin will never let his beloved Valkyrie parish like this, when he finds out the truth. I wouldn't stand for it! I wonder if she remembers anything at all... I closed my eyes and reached into her mind, fast forwarding events like a mute movie, without words, colors or feelings. Still pictures moved changing each other and I breathed out in sorrow. She doesn't remember my son... he is her prisoner... and she's taking him... no, it's he, who's taking her somewhere... they are going.... I reached deeper, but the motion near by broke my concentration, making me to release the mind of the Valkyrie. “We are closing in on the river bay, there is a pier there.” The voice pulled my attention back to my son and I saw Helgi standing by his side. He turned in the direction that Thor was looking and sat down, pulling a wrapped white fabric out. “Here, I brought you one of my shirts... nights are still cold farther north.” ...North... so they are going north... I wonder why...? I moved, paying close attention to the conversation. “Thanks...” Thor pulled the shirt on and covered his shoulders with his fur cape. “And thank you for insisting on my freedom on this ship, it was nice to lose the ropes for short while.” Helgi looked at him with a smile and turned his eyes back to the bow of the ship. “You know, all you have to do is swear you loyalty to Truvor, and you will be under our protection, you will be free.” “I know...” Thor rested his back against the base of a mast, still looking ahead. “But you are not going to...” Helgi smiled to himself, and looked down before turning his eyes forward again. “Nope...” My son answered, not taking his eyes off Astrid. “But you already knew that, otherwise you wouldn't have brought me your shirt...” “ I knew...” Helgi's eyes wandered to the moving oars, watching them go up and down, pushing ship into the river bank. “I also know that James is not your real name...” “Nope...” My son smiled, not turning his head. Helgi smirked and shook his head, looking down. “One day I hope to find out who you really are, and why I can't read you. As though you are surrounded by... an impenetrable fog that warns me not to push further... The only thing I can feel clearly is this powerful, almost visible connection between you and her...” His eyes rose to the Valkyrie. “The way you look at her... so very... with so much...” Helgi stumbled on his words and Thor smiled. “Love...” Love? I felt my heart skip as my eyes jumped form my son to Astrid. He's... Oh my stars... I turned back to my son. He smiled and sighed, turning his pendant in his hand. My eyes slid on the Asgardian silver and stopped on the broken part of a Valkyrie's spear head sealed to it. Mind rose a picture of Thor's hand squeezing it when he was begging me to let him go to Midgard. How could I be so blind and didn't see what a mortal read so easily!!! That is why he's here! That's why he disobeyed me! He would do anything to be here with her, because he can't be anywhere else. Nothing will keep him away, not threats, not promises that she would be saved, that I would do everything possible and impossible to bring her back later. He won't let me take him home... He wouldn't leave her alone, no matter what I or anyone else said. I should know... I left my world and went against my family's will to be with Odin... My eyes returned to Astrid, seen her in the new light. The girl that my son's heart chose... I always admired her for her spirit... Odin did too... she is the only one who Thor listens too... I felt a warm wave filling my heart and let myself smile. I can't imagine a better daughter-in-law... a better wife for future king. But... is she.. did she ever felt that way about my son? I worry of a mother heart broke through the warmth, searching the memory. The picture of Astrid looking at Thor with a smile and clear pride for his achievement, when he rose a trophy over his head... then her laughing and shaking her head when he winked at her... mother's heart pushed further, pulling memories, turning pages... but eyes caught the motion and the mind returned to the present. Astrid's hand moved on the carved boarder to Triskelion, then to Valknut, and then back to Mjöllnir. Her fingers slid into the lines, forehead creasing in a frown as if she was trying to recall something, then she shook her head again and turned to the water, wrapping her arms around herself. Even if she loved him back... she doesn't remember it... A lump in my throat pushed tears to my eyes and I sighed. Oh Loki... Loki... if only you knew what you have done... Wait... that is it! It's all his doing, that means, she's not guilty at all and I can undo it! I can bring them both back to Asgard. So what if rules say mortals are not allowed, I am the queen, I can bend the rules! I'll go straight to Odin and he will... My husband's words flashed in my memory and I swallowed, feeling my heart drop. He knew... didn't he..? He knew it all! He knew it form the beginning! My heart trembled, and my eyes flew back to Thor. His face was so serene, so at peace. His eyes were keeping what so dear to him in a devoted gaze. My heart throbbed, heavily pulling down, and mind pushed. You have to decide. You have to make another hard choice. You have to let it play to the end. I breathed in, feeling my heart bleeding and tearing apart. I can't leave him here like this, all powerless and vulnerable! But... I also can't force him to go back without her. For him it would be worse then the punishment I had to send Loki to... I sighed and pushed off the beitass, unfolding my wings. The wind rose me up, away from the ship and higher in the sky. I pushed to the clouds, reaching to the north with my falcon's vision. What is there? Where is he taking her? I saw a forest, a winding river that was cutting deep between rocky hills, then another forest... and beyond it the sharp teeth of a snow covered mountain ridge, that was holding big frozen lake in a ring. Why are they going there? How far north? Is there something there beyond this broken mountain? Wait.... Why is it looks so familiar...? I looked closer at the crater, searching my memory, and my heart skipped, warming up with a saddened understanding. He remembers his father's story! He knows where the seed is! I dove down and made a full circle above the Varyag's ship, screaming into the wind. “Find it for her, my son, give her back what was wrongfully taken form her! I believe in you!” |

Olya! OMG Beautiful! As Frigg slowly realized that Odin knows, and knew she would face this decision, breathtaking. The warmth she feels when she realizes Thor's love for Astrid, so moving! I can't wait to see what happens next, once Thor and Astrid are back on the road, so to speak. Thank you so much!

The way she slowly realize what was all this about. Her worry and her joy all in the same time! I am sure that there is a hard decisions in front of her but also I am sure that she'll know what to do...after all she is a mother, and a mother knows the best even if sometimes it's difficult to make a choice. Amazing!!!!

OK, deep breaths, deep breaths, deep breaths, breathe in, breathe out, in, out... Now, quickly for the meaningful part of my comment before I start hyperventilating: I love that you made Frigg a falcon. It is so wonderfully symbolic of every mother isn't it? Watching over her children with wings spread wide, with courage and determination, with a sharp eye for everything around them, even the things they never see or realize. Her slow trip to understanding of the reasons for Thor's being down in the world of mortals was a beautiful summary of the story so far, putting the little pieces of the puzzle in place, reminding us of the old legend and the seed we might have forgotten in this complex plot you so masterfully build with every update. Beautiful scenery, the choice of words, the flow of the sentences just like the soft sound of water cut by the silent ship sailing north, to the place where future will take its form... So much for the meaningful part. Now, *hyperventilates*
just....

Thank you girls!!! Sorry for a delay! Work, family and all that... So... shall we see Thor and Astrid again? See what in their heads? (Thor's POV) As the ship pulled up to the pier, the men jumped out, securing it to the polls and pulling a walking board to the side of it. “I wanted to say, may the Gods be with you in your journey, but I feel that they already are. Hope to see you as a free man next time we meet, my friend.” “See you in Valhalla, Helgi, Son of Rus.” I smiled and he laughed. “Good thing my brother didn't hear you, he would strongly disagree about that. He thinks Valhalla is reserved for fearless warriors, me... I'm more of a thinker... My brothers see me as a priest.” “Good thing that decision is not up to mortals then, isn't it?” I smiled. “You are a good man, Helgi. Father Odin needs good men in his army.” “We're not going to stay here long, I'll see you in Rurik's tent.” Truvor growled, pushing between us, and stopped. His eyes moved to me, as if waiting for something, then flew to Astrid as she approached us, and he let out a short bark of a 'good bye', quickly retreating to the walking board, and stepping off the ship. I saw the half smile that emerged on my little Valkyrie's lips, but it was gone in a second. Hm.. what's this? It's almost like he was running from her... interesting... I tried to read Astrid's eyes when she wrapped a rope around my wrists, tightening it, but my thoughts returned to the fact that my few hours of freedom were over. She was probably just smiling because I'm back to being a prisoner... As an answer, she pulled on the rope, checking her work and let another half smile surface, before returning to the bow of the ship to get her bags. Yep... happy to see me tied up, aren't you? I watched her unwrapping two other ropes and sighed. Here we go again... more ropes... One over the shoulders and one around my neck to pull me behind like a dog... I held another sigh when Helgi stepped closer, whispering with a wink, and nodding in Astrid's direction. “I hope she realizes soon that she doesn't need those.” “Sooner or later, she will.” I smiled and he patted me on the back. “I hope sooner.” He turned and started walking to the starboard of the ship, passing by Astrid on his way and lowering his head in front of her to hide a wicked smile. She looked at me, then turned to look back at him and frowned, stepping closer to me. “Why are you both grinning like that?” “Can people just smile?” ...And share a hope? “What were you talking about?” “Nothing...” I snorted, watching Helgi making a face at me. “Then why are you laughing?” “He told me a funny joke.” I smiled. “What joke?” She glared at me, stretching out the rope in her hands. I saw Helgi smile and wink again behind her back and my lips slid into a wide grin. “Just a stupid joke, you wouldn't get it.” Astrid's eyes narrowed, studying my face. “I'm sure it was stupid, since it made you grin like that.” “And what is that supposed to mean, that I'm stupid?” Honestly, this woman... why did I have to fall for someone with such a sharp tongue? That's why... no one else would ever dare to say something like that to me. Ever. I watched her unravel the rope, not in a hurry to answer, then her eyes rose up to mine and her lips formed a smile. “Besides the fact that you were hit on the head and lost your marbles, yes. I imagine you weren't that bright to begin with.” Grrrr.... I was about to blow up about who is stupid and stubborn, who doesn't believe the truth when they're told to, but she started to loop the end of one rope around my waist, making me loose my chain of thoughts. I held my breath, catching every light touch of her hands on my body as she secured it with a knot. She looked at her work, tagging the rope a little, then folded the third one in a bundle, and my mind came out from the fog of bliss. Wait... she's wrapping it up... she's not planning on using it? As an answer to my thoughts, she pushed it into her bag and pulled on the rope that was attached to my waist. “Let's go.” This is new... and very interesting... “What? No rope around my shoulders? No pulling me by my neck?” I rose my eyebrow. What does this mean? She trusts me? Maybe she just doesn't want to do it while we're still in a view of the vikings... And she'll tie me back as I was as soon as we walk further... She turned with another smile. “This way I don't have to let go the next time you're sliding on your ass pass me.” Oh... You want to talk about what happened? I made a little discovery, thinking about it earlier ... Let's talk. “But you did let go, because you were afraid you would choke me.” My lips stretched in self indulgent smile. “You care about me.” “No, I don't.” She threw over the shoulder, yanking the rope. She sooo does! I was right! She was worried! I got you! “Yes, you doooo!” I teased. “No, I don't!” She yanked the rope again and I couldn't help but smile wider. You can jerk that rope all you want, but I know the truth! “Your lips keep saying no, but your actions say otherwise.” “What actions? I let go because I didn't want to fall.” “Uh huh... let's see, you still fell.. for... um.. after me, and then, you asked me if I was okay, all worried... and then, you jumped between me and those vikings, protecting me.” She didn't answer, just shifted her shoulders and I continued. “And then, as if all that wasn't enough proof, you lied to them to protect me.” “And all that makes you think that I care about you?” She stopped and turned. “Loud and clear. Just admit it.” I let a victorious smile play on my lips, but she smirked. “See, I told you, you're not that bright. I didn't do it for you, I did it for Lana. You promised to talk to your people to let her go, without you, I would have to fight them, risking her life. So you see, I need you alive, but just for that.” She turned away, yanking the rope and I sighed. You asked for it and there you go, nice cold bucket of truth. She doesn't remember you, she doesn't love you... maybe she never did... Maybe you were right before, it was just you... she only saw you as a friend, nothing more... and she doesn't even remembers that. Wait... that's right, she doesn't remember our friendship... that means... I can have a fresh start! I have a chance to get something I was after form the very first time I met her. I have a chance to get her heart! (Astrid's POV) 'Lie, lie, and lie. You weren't thinking about Lana... at all. You're a horrible friend.' 'Because I feel that she is okay... somehow I feel it, right here in my heart.' 'Like you can feel anything else when your heart is too busy with those damned blue eyes. Admit it. He got under your skin.' 'No he didn't.' 'You were thinking about him all day!' 'I was thinking about those carvings, not him. I was trying to remember...' 'And conveniently the only one that looked familiar was the hammer. Hammer, Thor, his crazy story.' I sighed to myself. 'You're right... and I'm afraid that that's why it looked familiar... I can't recall anything from my past, just keep returning to his story...' 'You mean him and why you like him.' 'Well... in my defense, compared to other men, he is... he... he irritates me less. I mean just to use this ordeal with Varyags. Those looks, they drop on me... he doesn't look at me that way.' 'I agree with you on that, those hungry looks Truvor was throwing were disturbing, as was the talk when he caught you alone by the tent, but you did good!' I smiled, remembering Truvor's face when I kindly declined his invitation to join him, feeling that the content of that 'join me' referred to his chambers. He didn't leave me along and pushed into a straight 'I can keep you if I want, I'm a powerful man with my own army' and I had to simply tell him that a man with such power would want to live a long life to enjoy it all. Keeping me against my will would unexpectedly shorten that life. He didn't like that answer very much, even though it was said with a smile. Good thing Helgi pulled him away to something important in the plan for the city. Leaving me with the feeling that I may have to fight for my freedom... 'And you were thinking if your prisoner would stand on your side in that fight... you just can't help it and keep thinking about him any chance you get!' 'I am not!' 'Yes you are!' “I don't want to talk about it anymore. Just stop.' 'Stop flirting with him, stop smiling at him, stop showing off how you feel about him. Start thinking more about your friend in need, and you won't have to fight with yourself.' I sighed, pushing my thoughts away and turned to the narrow path that was running along the river. It's getting dark fast and in a few hours, the sun will be gone... I looked back at James, watching him make his way between the trees behind me. Better stay by the water, more light and fewer obstacles here, and it's easier for him to follow me... 'Aha! FOR HIM!' Conscience pinned, catching my thought. “Oh, shut up!” I spat out loud. “I didn't say anything... who are you talking to?” The voice behind me made me turn, stumbling on damned smiling blue eyes. “No one.” I growled, turning away and yanked the rope, feeling a pin of irritation that broke into a wave of annoyance with myself. Great... I'm sure glad he didn't hear the rest of it... “Well, since you started a conversation... what's for supper?” The words came form behind and I stopped, turning to my prisoner. “What? You mean that chicken that you almost singlehandedly devoured on Truvor's ship for lunch wasn't enough?” I couldn't help but smile, remembering his face at the sight of food, but quickly turned away. I've got to stop smiling... “That was at lunch, it's a supper time now, come one, don't I deserve it? I didn't try to run or ask Varyags to free me...” “Because, you knew I would've told them who you are, Berserk. And they would've killed you.” And you know it. “Or... I could've told them who I really am, and--” “Don't start with that again, or I will leave you tied up to the tree.” I snapped back. I just got that crazy story out of my head and you're putting it back in! “Fine, but I still want supper.” Blue eyes warmed up, pulling closer, and I had to turn away, mentally slapping myself. Stop looking into his eyes! Just don't look... not even a glance. Look anywhere but his eyes. “Fine, when it get's dark.” I growled. “It's dark now...” I felt a soft pull on the rope and my heart skipped. 'Oh come on, he is a grown man and he needs more then bread and water... plus... we out of both.' Shit... I forgot about that... Dammit. I have to come up with something or he'll whine about it nonstop. I held myself form turning back and grumpily breathed out. “You know, for a prisoner, you have too many requests and you talk too much.” “If I don't talk, then you start talking to yourself, and that is... unhealthy.” He replied and I sighed. He is right, again... it's not just unhealthy, it's downright insane to argue with myself... and I'm calling him crazy. I'm as mental as he is! Great, the match made in-- “Shut up.” I growled, pulling on the rope. And that goes for everyone... |
