Thank you girls!!!! I love you all so much! Sorry for a long wait! I had absolutely no time to write! So... I think it's time to look what is Balder doing... we left him all upset... all alone in the swampy world... XXIV. (Balder's POV) I felt a gaze on me and opened my eyes. Did I fall asleep? Shit... I looked around and stood up, noticing that the iron guard was still motionless, just staring at the frost covered rock with his red lifeless eyes. As I stretched, my eyes moved over the gloomy shadows of rotten, twisted trees and tall spiky grass. As far as realms go, this one is just depressing. The smell by itself is enough to make it the least welcoming place in the universe. No wonder we've never even thought of coming here for one of our trips. My eyes continued over the joyless scenery and stopped on a pair of green glowing dots behind a crooked black tree. What the...? I picked up my sword and the dots moved, becoming eyes on a white furred face that were followed by a wagging tail. “Geri! What are you doing here?” I put my sword on the rock just in time as the wolf jumped up, placing his paws on my shoulders and trying to lick my face. “Oh, come on, you big baby. You wanna play? Let me find a stick...” I pushed him off, patting his back heavily and looked down in search of something to throw. Geri was happily jumping around me, then jumped on the rock and gripped my sword into his mouth. “Not that. That's not a toy, put it down!” He lowered his head, looking at me and wagging his tail, as if taunting me. “Geri, no. Put it down.” The wolf released a short growl-bark through his teeth, clenched tightly around the scabbard, and jumped off the rock into the thorny grass, galloping away. “Hey, give it back, I need it!” I ran after him, barely catching up with the much faster four-legged thief. I sent a few warning shots of light up in the air, but the wolf ignored me, jumping into the bushes. “Geri, stop! You bad wolf!” I yelled, but my old friend and my father’s trusty companion sped up, vanishing into the swampy twilight. I ran between broken old trees, feeling the webs on my face as I followed the fading patch of white fur far ahead of me. “Geri, stop right this minute!” I tried to sound like my father and the wolf stopped, turning to me. I stepped forward and he ducked his head, moving the scabbard in his mouth with a chewing motion. “Stop that!” I shouted and he jumped to the right under the wall of moss hanging from a branch. “You son of a...” I pushed myself forward faster, and in a few minutes came out to a smelly swamp. Geri was standing by the cloudy waters with no where to run. I smirked and stopped, looking at the thief. “I got you, no where to go now. Give it back.” I stepped closer and lifted my hand, ready to forcefully return what belonged to me, but the wolf shook his head, retreating. He looked behind him over the swamp and when I was almost beside him, the thief turned and jumped on one of the soggy patches of grass that were floating on the surface. “Are you crazy? I'm not following you there! Come back here and give me back my sword!” The wolf barked a short growl and jumped on the next, much smaller patch, and it dunked down under his weight, throwing his body into the murky waters. He released a cry full of fear and tried to swim, but the water suddenly bubbled and started quickly moving in a circle. In a blink of an eye the wide funnel formed in the middle, pulling Geri in, and the wolf released another terrified cry, battling against the strong current. “Geri! Hold on!” I jumped in, making my way to my friend as fast as I could. The waters foamed up, rising higher and another muffled weak cry made me push myself faster to the furry head on the edge of the vortex. “Hold on, little buddy!” The waters quickly came to my waist, ripping the ground from under my feet. I started to swim, but before I could reach my friend, Geri's head spun on the edge of the black hungry twister, and he released another weep, before vanishing into the blackness. “Geri!!!” I dove after him into the smelly, thick waters, feeling the strong current get hold of my cape, pulling me down. I beamed my light and at the bottom of the same funnel that got hold of my body, I saw a twisting patch of a white fur. I pushed in, swimming down, and raising a swarm of bubbles. My hands were almost within reach of my friend when the stream of cold air brushed over my arms and face. Something hard pushed me down and somehow up, and I gasped, feeling air entering my lungs. I breathed in and sat up, emerging from a small shallow puddle in a dark cave, blinking with surprise. “What the fuck happened? How did I... Geri!” The wolf was standing right in front of me with my sword still in his mouth, and a clear smile in his blue eyes. “You! I thought you were in trouble, you bastard! Now I'm all wet because of you!” As an answer to my words Geri shook his body, spraying me with a rain of water, then wagged his tail and jumped into the dark opening on the left. “Oh come on!” I jumped out of the puddle, following the white-furred thief, and lighting up the rocky walls of the tunnel. “Give me my sword back!” Soon the passage grew tighter, and I was forced to crawl on my hands and knees to fit through, following the flash of a tail somewhere far ahead. “Geri, I'm going to fucking kill you!” My voice bounced on the rocks, like thunder, and the wolf stopped, looking back at me and then vanished through the floor of the cave. “Great... just great...” I crawled further, swearing at the rocks that came even closer together, making me almost crawl on my stomach. My hand slipped into empty air in front of me and before I could get a proper grip, my body slid forward, falling through the floor and dropping into the mud. My light flickered and went off as the thick sludge splashed under my weight, covering me head to toe. I sat up, spitting the oily slime out. “That's just fucking awesome... if this is your kind of fun, count me out for any future games.” I wiped my face and stood up. I rose my hand to light up the place, but nothing happened. No light, not even a small spark. What the...? “Where are we anyway?” No answer, no movements, just silent darkness. “Geri? Come back here! Where are you?” Nothing, just the echo of my own voice, bouncing off the rocks. “Oh, he is so going to pay for this!” I made a few steps, sliding on the slippery mud, and as my eyes got used to the darkness, I saw a bleak light somewhere ahead. I made my way through the cave, stumbling on the rocks and drawing closer to the increasing light, and soon stepped out into the forest. Hm... this doesn't look like Svartalfheim... more like Asgard... in the morning light... Did we somehow returned back home? I took another step forward, dripping with mud and feeling water shifting in my boots. I snapped my fingers, calling on my power, but the feeling of wetness didn't change. I closed my eyes, concentrating, and felt nothing. What the fuck? I called on my power once again and again felt nothing. Shit! My powers don't work... why? I looked down at my clothes. My shirt, cape and pants were covered in mud, and my boots were coated in a thick layer of it. I scratched my head. Maybe this mud has something in it... something that prevents me from using my powers? A noise in the bushes near me made me turn and I saw a small animal jumping out into the opening. It looked at me with big brown eyes, twitched its ears, and sprinted away. What the fuck was that? Huge ears... small furry ball a the tail... I've never seen that before... I know all animals that live in Asgard... Something screamed in the tree above me and I lifted my head. My heart flipped, sending cold shivers down my spine as my eyes passed the branches of the tree to the clear pink-blue sky. Where are the stars? Where are the moons? They're always visible... even in the daylight... Where am I? I looked closer at the forest. My eyes stopped on an old broken tree, then moved to a nearby tree with a few dead branches. Definitely not Asgard... what is this place? I made a few steps back and tripped over something, falling back, my fingers slid on the wood under my rear and I looked down, staring at the markings that were clearly made by an axe. A stump... a stump of a tree... this tree was cut... a barbarian way... only humans... I jumped up, feeling a cold flash gripping my throat. Humans! Midgard! Fuck... that means... that means... That means... the words of my mother floated in my mind. 'If any of you two would as much as step one foot on Midgard, your powers will be bound too.' I looked at my pendant, turning it in my fingers.. it wasn't shining as always, I pulled the sides of my cape, which was made of light, staring at the simple thick fabric. Mother's forbidding spell took away my powers... I dropped back on the stump and looked around. What am I supposed to do now? Wait... I'm in Midgard... Thor and Astrid are here somewhere! I just need to figure out how to find them... Geri! He must know! He brought me here! I stood up, looking around. “Geri!” My scream flew up and the forest answered with silence. “Geri, come back here!” Nothing.... “Geri! You offspring of Fenrir! I'm done playing, come back here and help me!” Some bird loudly screamed in answer, flapping its wings in a tree. “Great... just fucking great...” I sighed and lowered my eyes, kicking a small rock with my foot. It bounced and landed by the wet mud imprint of a wolf paw. Another print was further ahead, and another by the tree. I started walking, following the trail, and soon came up to a patch of the bent to the roots grass. My sword was laying in the middle of it, a bit in half branch placed to it's tip, making it look like an arrow. Two clear wolf prints were right on top of it. I think Geri thinks I'm an idiot... he sure worked hard here to make it so obvious... “Okay, okay, I get it, you want me to follow you... that way... and that way is...” I looked around, getting my bearings. The sun is rising on the right, the patches of moss are bigger on the trunks on this side... same side the sword is pointing to... “You want me to go... North...?” I scratched my head and a long happy howl rose above the land as an answer. I need to find this stupid wolf, he's the only one who can help me find Thor. I sighed, picking up my sword, and started my way through the woods. |

First, I'm so sorry for the delay, but you know I read it all Now before I move on to my Finally-Balder-oh-I-am-in-love-with-him-already tirade, I must say the update with Astrid and Thor talking about what makes a great king.... My gods, it left me breathless! I read it when it was first posted, then I read it once again and now I read it for the third time and my heart still beats faster with every word as their dialogue unfolds. And it is so beautiful and exiting to watch Thor grow on this odd trip with the love of his life, to grow to understand things about the world, his father, Astrid, but most importantly about himself, to grow and learn everything he needs to know to become the God of Gods one day, the king of all realms, including that of Astrid's heart. Beautifully written, with so much emotion and depth, simple yet expressive and deeply, deeply moving. And all the setting this takes place in, with the crackling fire disturbing the pitch darkness, the fire that drags Astrid towards glimpses from painful memories, her own trip to remembering who she really was, and all that followed by a glimpse into the future, where new glory awaits. It's all mind blowing and so captivating and the best of your writing to date. You managed to amaze me again. And then... IT WAS ABOUT TIME!!!! I mean... Isn't he just... just Jason through and through?! I loved it, every word, the play, the run, the scary travelling to Midgard, the "I think Geri thinks I'm an idiot" line, just PERFECT! Off you go Balder! Bring light to darkness and see what you discover on your way!

Oh, girls, you are too kind! Thank you all so much!!! I love you! Okay, so let's see what will Balder find in Midgard. (Lana's POV) A wolf's howl invaded my dreams, dropping me into reality, and I opened my eyes. I stretched, almost falling down, forgetting that I was still up in the tree. The part of the sky that was visible through the foliage was already losing it's blushing color, turning blue, I rubbed my eyes and looked down. The night campfire scorched ground under the tree was empty. Was I sleeping so deep, I didn't even hear them leave? I looked at the water, and saw a light shadow of the ship vanishing behind the pointed rocky cliff in the south. Woo-hoo! I'm free! I quickly stood up, grabbing to another branch for balance, and started my way down. I learned very quickly that the way down was more difficult than the way up, or maybe I was just lacking the power of fear, which had pushed me up the tree last night. My fingers, still a bit sticky from my midnight snack, refused to move smoothly and were simply too short to get a good grip on the thick branches. On top of that I had to carefully move my feet, making sure I had at least somewhat stable support when I moved my arms. I tried to use my forearms, but the sleeves kept catching on the rough bark, slowing my uneasy decent even more. As I made it down to the next level, I felt a light pull on my hair, and looked up. My braid got caught in the split of the branches, and I pulled on it, only to see it sliding and impaling itself on the small stick. I sighed and tried to reach it, but I was too far down. I placed one foot on thinner branch, which was at the level of my knees, and pulled myself up, stretching my arm to the stubborn twig. Just as my fingers freed my braid, the thinner branch moved aside, pushed with my weight, and started to go down, making me lose my balance, and before I could grip onto something, I saw the trunk of a tree moving away and up. The branches moved somewhere high above me and I closed my eyes, letting out a long scream. My rear end dropped on something softer then I expected, hands sliding off something warm into the grass, and I heard a loud gasp, that was followed by swearing. “What the fuck?” I opened my eyes, stumbling on a dirty face with blue eyes. The body, which I was mounting in a very unladylike position, moved and his hands gripped at my hips, pushing me off. I felt my face flush and quickly jumped up. The man did the same, towering above me, and the hot flush of embarrassment gave way to a cold wave of fear. “Who are you and what do you want?” We both breathed out in unison. “I asked you first!” Another synchronized gasp. He is alone... I don't see anyone else... he is pretty tall... but he is alone. I moved my hand behind my back, reaching for my braid. My ribbon will protect me. “Answer me or you will be sorry.” I growled, pulling the ribbon off and crunching it up in my fist. “You don't think I would be scared of a girl, do you?” The stranger tilted his chin up and looked down at me. “I warn you, I have this!” I pushed the fist with my hidden weapon in front of me. He smirked and yanked the sides of his cape away from his body, thrusting his hips slightly forward. “And I have this.” My eyes moved lower on his figure and stopped on his waist, then hips. He got what? My eyes returned to the waist and slid lower to a noticeably bulging with a patch on a dried mud crotch. “See it?” His hips moved again, as he turned a bit to the side, making his bulge even more visible and I felt a wave of heat coloring my face red, while he continued. “And you are just a girl. So, I have the upper hand here. Now, tell me who you are.” What is he talking about? My eyes returned to his lower torso. He has what? His hips moved again, as he propped his hands on his sides. The only thing that he could possibly trying to show off to me was a mud covered bulge. I felt a another wave of heat. Is he trying to say, that since he has... since he's a man... Oh, that is just... just... that's so vulgar! I breathed in with shock and moved my eyes off his body, hearing his cocky voice. “Answer me, woman!” Woman? Oh, this is just outrageous! How dare he! And to assume that I will let him win, just because he is a man? Sig was right, women have all the same rights! Plus, human rules are no longer apply to me. He has no idea who he is talking to! I rose my chin up and looked him right in the eyes. “Why? Because you... you have your... your...” I waved my hand in front of me, trying to find a suitable word as my eyes slid down to his crotch, pushing another wave of heat to my face. “Your that... your... your man thing?” “That man thing called sword.” He smirked and I felt the wave of redness reaching all the way to the roots of my hair. Sword? What is he talking about? What sword? My eyes flew back to his empty belt but couldn't escape the bulge below it. Sword? There is nothing there but his... is he...? Is he referring to it as a 'sword?' I let a little giggle out, remembering the talk with Sig on our first day. Men and their swords... My word... he's actually calling it that! “Whatever you want to call it...” I lowered my eyes and bit my lips, trying to hols my smile. “Everyone calls it that. It's a weapon, you stab with it!” He narrowed his eyes, but I bit my lip, and trying not to snort. All fear in front of this mud covered man with blue eyes and his 'sword' was gone and I barely held another giggle. “Mhm...” “Don't make me pull it out!” He frowned. “No, no please don't. I rather you keep it in your... pants.” I snorted and he blew up. “That is it, I've had enough of this! Tell me what I want to know!” His hand reached to his side and slid on his hip. He quickly looked down, clearly puzzled as his hands searched for something on his belt, pushing his cape aside. His eyes returned to mine. “What did you do to it?” “I didn't do anything.” I snorted again, unable to stop my laugh. “My sword was right here on my side and now it's gone. Where is it?” He stepped back, searching under his cape and the tall grass moved under his feet, uncovering the pommel of a sword on the ground behind him. “Oh thank Gods... you mean that sword?” I breathed out in relief and pointed at the weapon. He looked down and quickly picked it up. His eyes slowly returned to mine. “Wait... what did you think I was talking about?” He saw my smile, then looked down at his front. His eyes stopped at the muddy bulge and he quickly pulled the sides of his cape to cover his figure and I noticed that his cheeks turned slightly pink as he mumbled. “Never mind... don't answer that.” (Balder's POV) I quickly turned around and brushed the mud off my pants, trying to stop my blushing cheeks. I can't believe it, she thought I was showing her my... That is so embarrassing! No wonder she wasn't taking me seriously. I'm a fucking God and I just made a fool out of myself in front of this mortal girl! Shit... “Look... I'm sorry for this little misunderstanding...” I turned back to the girl and found her walking away to the water. She knelled on the ground, washing her hands and face, then started fixing her hair. I sighed and looked at my dirty hands, remembering the oily sludge I wiped off my face and rolled my eyes. Perfect. I must look like I was rolling in mud! Very Godlike look... plus this sword thing... she probably thinks I'm just some idiot... Does everyone think that lately? I sighed again and made my way to the water, stopping a few feet away form the girl. She continued to braid her hair and I lowered myself on the sand and started to wash my hands, vigorously rubbing the skin with anger at myself. Then washed my face and wiped it with what seemed to be the clean underside of my cape. My eyes returned to the girl, who was drying her face with her sleeve. Maybe better just walk away... but... she can tell me where the fuck I am. What part of Midgard. Let's try this again... I stood up and cleared my throat. “So... why did you jump on me?” “I didn't jump, I fell...” She fixed a few unruly locks behind her ears and stood up, turning to me. At that moment the first rays of the sun peaked from behind the clouds at the horizon, highlighting her face. The sun rays sparkled in her unbelievably green eyes and I barely held a gasp. Whoa... I've never seen eyes like that... so green and so... deep... and... “You were just walking under the tree I was hidi--- … the tree I was on.” She lowered her eyes for a second, breaking the contact and I fell out of the fog, back to reality. “Wha... um...” I cleared my for some reason dry throat. “Why where you on a tree?” “I was sleeping there.” She looked back at me, returning the mesmerizing gaze and I tried to shake whatever was going on with me aside, making my mind pay attention to the words. “Sleeping?” The green pools narrowed, turning cold. “Why? Like that's something out of the ordinary. I like to sleep on trees, sitting high, no one can see me and I can see everything around.” “You didn't see me...” “I wasn't looking down, I was a bit busy with the branches and all... But thank you for breaking my fall... um... I didn't catch your name...” The green warmed up again when the meaning of her words reached into my numb mind. Name? I felt my lips sliding into a smile. Hi, I'm Balder, the God of Light. The light breeze moved the side of my cape forward and my eyes caught the movement, stopping on the thick dirty fabric. Powerless God... Right... I don't want her to know who I am... not now, not when I look like this and without my powers... I have to pretend to be a mortal... I need a name... A mortal name... I have to come up with a name... a nice and human name... “My name is....” My eyes drifted to the bush behind the girl and stopped on the white flowers. I looked back at the girl, and before my mind caught up with my tongue, my lips let out an answer. “My name is Jas---” Wait Jasmine is a girl's name! Shit! I froze with an open mouth, thank Odin she wasn't looking at me at the moment. I managed to close my lips and make up somewhat normal expression as she turned. “Jas? What kind of a name is that?” “Jas, you know... ” I waved my hand in the air, mentally snapping at myself. Oh for fuck's sake, come on, think fast! What human name would start with that? Jas... Jas... Jass... Jas... Oh come on! “Jas son... son of As---” I swallowed 'gard' and quickly added. “--- land.” As soon as the last words left my mouth I froze. What did I just say? Asland? Really?! What the fuck is wrong with me?! “Jason son of what land?” She tilted her head to the side. Assland... the land of people who continue to make an ass out of themselves in front of other people. Shit... what are the lands in here called? Come on think! Assland... Asland... Iceland! “Iceland, I'm from Iceland.” I breathed out, wiping a few drops of sweat from my forehead. “Iceland? Never heard of it.” Her green eyes smiled. “It's in another realm... I mean land... far form here... over the seas...” I mumbled, and quickly added. “What about you?” “I'm form here. I'm Lana. It's short for Svetlana.” She suddenly frowned. “Iceland...? Are you a viking?” “Um... not really. Are you?” “No, I'm Slav, but vikings live here too, then there are our enemies Pechenegs, Khazars...” “All those people live in this part of this realm... I mean land?” “Pechenegs and Khazars are unwelcome invaders. Khazars are coming from...” The green pools pulled me in and I dropped out of the conversation, drowning in my thoughts. So she is a daughter of Slavs... Very beautiful... long, white like a swan's feather hair... and those eyes... Svetlana... Hey, that means 'light!' And I'm the God of Light! If she only knew who is in front of her. I wonder what would her reaction be... “...Varyags are vikings too, but they live in peace with us...” Her voice broke through my thoughts, and I snapped at myself. Keep your mind off those eyes, and think of where you are. Lana turned back to the water and I pulled my eyes off of her. Concentrate! I'm here to find Thor and Astrid. And I just missed the part when she named this land. Did she? Even if she did, I have no idea where Thor is. Shit... Midgard is huge... I have no chance of finding my brother without that wolf! “You probably know all that... sorry I have a tendency to get carried away in my conversations.” Lana's voice pulled me back and since I had no idea what she was talking about while I was drifting in my thoughts, I mumbled. “I like to learn new things...” “So why are you here?” She looked at me. “I came here from my realm... I mean land... um... I was following a wolf...” Why am I telling her that? Maybe she saw Geri? “A wolf? Why? Are you a hunter?” She suddenly frowned. “Yes, yes I am. I'm hunting that wolf. Did you see a white wolf from that tree you were sleeping on? He should've passed here.” “Even if I did, I wouldn't tell you.” The green eyes returned, but the warmth was gone and they looked at me with clear hostility. What did I say? Why the sudden change? “Why? You don't like hunters?” “I have nothing against hunters, I hunt myself, but I love wolves. They are majestic, sacred animals and no one should ever hunt them. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I've spent too much time here with you and I have to go.” She turned and started to walk away, throwing over the shoulder. “I hope you never find that wolf!” Nice going Asslander. Now she clearly wants nothing to do with you. Why did you have to tell her you hunt that wolf? Why couldn't you just say he is your friend? I watched the girl walking away and scratched my head, not sure what to do. Part of me wanted to follow that girl with green eyes, tell her that I love wolves and would never hurt one. That Geri was my best friend since I was a child, but my mind reminded me of that I have to find my brother and my friend and that I can always find this girl later... when I have the glory of my full power. I sighed as she vanished behind the curve of the shore and looked over the waters. Okay... so... back to Geri. He want me to go North... and North is there... right across this lake... I looked at the sand under my feet and noticed lines, as if something had been pulled out, then pushed back into the water. Boats! I need a boat! I looked back at the shore and my eyes stopped on the multiple charred circles. Campfires...? Other mortals were here... I looked at the oak tree in the middle of the ring of the burned marks. She was sleeping on that tree... in the middle of the camp... and she didn't leave with them... strange... I scratched my head again and shook it. Okay... get your mind off that girl. I need to find my brother first and for that I need Geri, and he want's me to go North. I need a boat. My eyes returned to the lake. Maybe if I go along the shore I can find one... My eyes followed the line of the rocky cliffs on the left and turned to sandy stretch on the right. My lips slid into a smile. So... I guess I have to go the same way she went... I'm not following her, it just so happens that I need to go the same way... |

Yep! Balder and Lana! Heehhehe, I knew you would like that!!! Thank you girls!!!!!!!! Sorry for the delay, we were changing the roof and had to take everything off of it including the satellite dish. So I had no net, no TV for a few days. The plus side, i had a lot of time to write my update. The bad part... I had too much time to write my update...lol It came out long and I will post it in two parts but close together. So... here we go. XXV. (Frigg's POV) A loud whisper invaded my dreams and I opened my eyes. The bright line of morning light pushed through closed curtains, like a glowing sword, reminding me of Balder and last night's events, and I sighed. I should've talked to him... explained everything that happened, he deserves to know why I didn't bring his brother or Astrid back. I sat up and pulled my robe off the chair. I'll do it today, right now. As I stood up the whisper behind my door repeated, making me listen closely. “We have to tell her!” “I know, but how... she will be devastated... Thor, then Loki and now Balder...” Balder? I felt my heart drop and I rushed to the door, roughly pulling it open. Two of my maids gasped, bowing down and lowering their heads. “What happen to Balder?” I breathed out, feeling my heart beating loudly in my temples. Both women lowered their heads even lower, shaking. “Answer me! What happened to my son?!” My voice shook the walls of the house and Fulla raised her eyes with a whisper. “He's missing, my queen...” “Missing? What do you mean missing?” I gripped my chest, afraid that my heart would jump out, and Fulla straightened up with a grim face. “No one knows where he is... I went to his house this morning... to make sure he's okay.. after yesterday... you didn't want to see him and he left looking so upset... I was worried about him...” She swallowed and continued. “His servant said he returned in the evening, very angry, went straight to his bedroom.. and a few minutes later left the house... he hasn't returned since...” She swallowed again. “I went to the Bifrost and asked Heimdall to find him... but he said he can't see him anywhere... or sense his powers... it's like he's vanished...” I felt as if the ground shifted from under my feet and braced myself on the door frame. Both maids rushed to me, supporting my suddenly limp body and helped me back into my bedroom, sitting me down on the chair. “How can he just vanish?” I managed to whisper, gripping to Fulla's hand. “Heimdall looked everywhere... he searched every realm... meanwhile I asked around.... the last time he was seen was last night... by the cave where the iron guard was sent...” She sighed and stood on her knees by my side, holding my hand in hers. “Maybe Heimdall can't see Svartalfheim... it is a dark realm... I'll go there myself...” I breathed out tried to get up, but Fulla's hand squeezed mine and she shook her head. “He's not there... my queen. We went there with Heimdall... the guard is in place... the stone is scorched as if he burned it with his eyes, preventing an attack... but there are no bodies... no sign of battle or anything... everything looks normal... but there is no sign of Balder... Heimdall even looked into Jotunheim... we thought maybe Balder went after whoever was trying to come through the passage... or... or if they captured him... he couldn't see your son or feel his powers... it's like he just... vanished... I'm sorry, my queen... I should've woke you up right away... but I was afraid to bring you such bad news...” The only Gods Heimdall can't see are the ones who are... I swallowed, not daring to let the word into my mind. My heart stopped and dropped down like a rock, leaving my body feeling cold and numb. “Leave me... both of you...” As the door behind the maids slowly closed I felt unbearably alone and absolutely powerless. I don't know how long I sat like that, staring into the floor, but the sun's rays made their way to my face and I turned my head to the source of the light. It was reflecting off a small corner of my magic mirror and my mind slowly emerged from the painful fog. The mirror! How could I forget?! It can see everything! It can find him! I jumped up and quickly pulled the cover completely off, gripping at the sides of the all seeing glass, feeling my heart jumping in my chest with the fear of what I would see. I breathed in and breathed out my plea. “Show me my youngest son. Show me Balder.” The surface moved, clouding, and I felt my heart stall, thoughts filling my head, making me squeeze the frame so hard my fingers turned white. I held my breath while the picture slowly widened from the middle and breathed out in relief when I saw my son's smiling face. I pulled back, quickly inspecting his figure. He's okay... I dropped back into the chair, feeling the tension of fear for his life letting go of my heart and leaving my body weak. I looked back at the reflection. Where are you? And why are you so dirty? But most importantly, why couldn't Heimdall see you? I mean here you are, unharmed and smiling... looking like you've been rolling in the mud... I made the picture to pull back again, and looked closely at the area. He's walking on the sand... so it's not Jotunheim... the place is well lit... so it's not Svartalfheim... he is by what seems to be some kind of a river... I turned the mirror inspecting the wide open water surface. No... it's more like a lake... As soon as the world lake flashed in my head, a wave of anger pulled my body up. No! He wouldn't! He couldn't! That is why Heimdall couldn't see him! My forbidding spell took his powers as soon as he stepped one foot on that damned Midgard! How did he get there? Who helped him? Who dared to disobey me?! Unbelievable! Do my orders mean nothing in this kingdom?! And Balder out of all! I can't believe it! I thought I had one son who listens, one who would never go against my word! I was wrong! I will march there right now and I will bring his ass back home! And then I'm going to lock him up right here in my house, with guards! Those boys will be the end of me! With a snap of my fingers I turned my night gown into a dress and turned to the smiling face of my son in the mirror. “Keep smiling! Just wait till I get there!” I pulled one of the falcon feathers out of the box on my table and turned back to the mirror. Maybe it's a different lake? I mean no one but me knew where Thor was... and I haven't told anyone. Balder couldn't possibly know where to go. I made one step closer to the mirror to find where in Midgard I could find yet another unruly son of mine, when the secret door to my husband serenity realm flew open with a bang. Two, dripping wet wolves ran by me, chasing each other and jumping on my bed. Before I could say anything Geri's teeth gripped into a pillow, Freki pulled from the other corner and a cloud of feathers shot into the air. “You furry bandits! Stop that!” I rushed to my bed to chase them off, and Geri quickly jumped on the chair as Freki got hold of another pillow and sprinted into the corner of the room. I jumped to cover his escape route and at that moment I heard a loud racket behind me. The sound of breaking glass followed, making me turn swiftly. Covered in feathers Geri was standing on my table, still holding the deflated pillow in his mouth and below him on the floor lay shattered in pieces magic mirror. “No! What did you do, you bastard?!” Geri softly jumped off the table joining his brother in the corner behind me, and I kneeled by the shimmering pieces on the floor, not knowing what to do. Of all the times it has to happen when I need my mirror the most... How would I find my son now? I heard a soft weep behind me and stood up, turning to the wolfs with a glare. “You sons of Fenrir! Now I have to physically search every lake in Midgard, and it would take days, weeks!” The hairy pair froze in place, Freki unclenched his jaws, dropping his trophy on the floor and I rose my hand, pointing to the still open door. “Out! Now!” The furry demons pulled their tails between their legs and quickly retreated to the secret realm. I shut the door with a wave of anger, slamming it with a thundering sound. The air blew the feathers off the floor, pulling them up in a twirling, fluffy cloud and I sighed. I guess I can start with the lake where I found Thor... then move to the next and the next... I sighed again and looked at the broken frame. What if the attack on Asgard will be repeated? I can't leave my realm unprotected in search of my son. I have to be here, I'm the only one left from the royal family.. I'm the only one who can give orders to the guards... I looked at the broken glass on the floor. I need to find a way to fix it... and there is no way I can do it... the only one who can is Odin. I carefully picked the broken pieces off the floor, separating them from the feathers and lowered them onto a sheet. It was a one of a kind mirror... the only one in existence... a magic that took the power of a black star and nine years of hard work of many dwarves to create. A present from Odin... so I could see the world I left any time I wished to... I pressed the wrapped fabric with the shiny pieces to my chest, and made my way to the secret door. My hand reached for the handle, but I hesitated in opening it. What if Odin can't fix it? What if it gone forever? No... I need my mirror... even if I ask my husband to send his ravens to find Balder, without the mirror I won't be able to keep an eye on Thor and Astrid... I stepped out of the mist and dropped out of my thought when I saw my husband sitting by the creek. Before I could say a word, he rose his eye to me and his face lit up with a smile. “My love!” He stood up, and his eye moved to the sheet in my hands. “I see new troubles brought you in...” His face saddened and pushing a pin of guilt into my heart. I walked to my husband, lowering the sheet with mirror pieces down, and wrapped my hands around my love's neck. “Odin... I would come and stay with you more often... and not just when I need your help... I do miss you, but... every minute I spend here, hours pass in the real world... I can't leave Asgard for that long... not when we are on high alert, not when we could possibly be attacked... not when our sons are in trouble...” “I know, my love, I know, you don't have to explain... so... what is it this time?” I sighed and pulled the sheet open. “Your wolves broke my magic mirror and I...” “You thought I could fix it?” He looked back at me and shook his head. “I can't... no one can. I'm sorry but it's gone forever. But you don't need it anymore... your world is long gone and...” “Yes I do! This is the only way I can keep an eye on my boys! Thor and Balder are both in Midgard, both powerless! I made a choice to leave Thor there, he has Astrid there to protect him, but Balder, he's up there all alone!” “He'll be fine.” “Fine? How can you say that? He has no powers, no way to come back home! He is the youngest one, he is my baby!” “He is not a baby. All of them long pass their teenage years.” Odin smiled and took my hands in his. “My love, our boys need to become a men, and you have to let them. You have to pull back and let them find their paths, find love. All thee of them.” I pulled away, feeling my heart screaming in protest at his words. “I understand what you're trying to tell me, but I can't let go, they are my boys, and they will be forever, no matter now old they get! They can do all that where I can keep an eye on them! They can find all they want but do it within my reach, in safety! They can find all their adventures here, and they can find love, Thor already did! And it was here--” Odin's words finally caught up with my worried mind and I stopped mid-sentence. “Did you say all three of them? What do you mean three? I know Thor is in love, but Balder? And more so, Loki? I mean, yes he has a girlfriend, but love... I'm afraid Loki is only capable of loving himself... after what he did to his brother and that poor Valkyrie... I doubt he has a heart!” I breathed a sigh and Odin pulled me down to sit by his side and looked into my eyes. “Oh he has a heart... Why do you think he suddenly came out clean to you?” He rose his eyebrow, watching me replay the uneasy day when I had to send my Loki off to a cruel punishment. “Because I figured out that Thor is not Thor and ruined his plans.” “Wrong. He did it to protect the one he loves...” “The one he... you mean Sigyn? But she is... she's not... she's so... she's not good for him! Not mentioning that her late fiance suspiciously dropped dead right before the wedding and she didn't shed one tear. More so, she almost looked happy about it! If she didn't have that perfect alibi I would say she killed him. Odin, the girl is a bad seed, she only cares about herself... She's shady... and secretive... ” I bit my lip. “I'm sorry... I know that is not very nice to say about the girl, but it is true...” “And...? Is that very same description remind you of someone?” He smiled and I lowered my eyes and sighed. “Loki...” “See? They are made for each other.” “Does she loves him back?” I looked back at my husband, feeling my motherly heart skip with a new worry. Odin shook his head with a smile and pulled me up, leading my to the small pond. “Come here...” He sat down, gesturing me to join him and I lowered myself by his side. “I can only do it once... it takes too much power for me to show you what I see through my ravens and you must remember, no matter what you see, no matter what what you feel, you can't interfere.” He waved his hand over the waters and they clouded, turning dark. The middle of the pond started to clear up, widening, and I saw Loki's face, tied up to the rocks. I closed my eyes, not wishing to see my son in pain, but Odin's hand landed on mine and I looked back at the water. |

Sorry, I was on my 4 on the row shifts! Okay, so as I said before, a long time to write, leaves me with too much written... as promised, here is the next part of this looong update. (Continue of Frigg's POV) The image pulled back and I saw Sigyn, standing above my son with arms stretched over him, holding a scaly vase in her hands under the head of Skaldi's snake. Part of me sighed with relief that my son has someone who found a creative way to protect him from the poison, another part of me pushed a frown on my face. It was cheating. My mind was about to flash with an anger, but my heart of a mother softened and dispersed it. She found a way to protect my son... cheating or not it was done for him. If I ever knew that I had to send my own son to that cave, I would have never picked that cruel punishment... I only wanted to scare Thor... and anyone who would be eager to help him... The serpent opened its mouth, and I dropped out of my thoughts. The yellow drop dangled off the huge fang and slid down. Sigyn moved her hands, with almost filled to the rim vessel catching the it and it splashed burning liquid on her hands and arms. She winced as the poison bubbled into her flesh, and I gripped to my throat with empathy. A strong wave of regret and guilt for my earlier words about her, made me lower my eyes, but the voice of my son's made me look back at the pond. “Sigyn, you have to stop.” “It's nothing, just a few drops.” She looked at him and turned back to the snake following its movements with her blistered arms. “You need to rest.” “I can't... Because unlike this burns, that I can heal in a few minutes, I wouldn't be able to heal the wounds in my heart if I let even one drop to reach you, my love.” Loki's eyes flew to the eyes of his girlfriend. “My love...? You... you mean... you love me?” “I always did...” She smiled and I felt a warmth washing over my heart and pushing a tears to my eyes. “Always?” Loki's eyes widened and his girl turned to him with a smile. “Since we were teenagers. I remember the exact day when I saw you in the forest. I came there to perfect my nymph powers, turning into trees and bushes, melting into nature... you ran out to the clearing and tried to shape-shift, but it wasn't working at first... then you turned into a young deer... you were so happy it worked, you started jumping around, kicking your legs high in the air, jumping over the bushes back and forward. It was so funny! You where a free spirit, you looked so genuinely happy... so different from the quiet boy I always saw at the gatherings.” “I remember that! That was my first ever successful shape-shift.” My son smiled and Sigyn continued. “A family of deers came out from the woods froze, looking at you and smelling the air, as if suspecting you where not one their kind. You decided to fool them and grab a mouthful of leaves, ripping it from the nearby tree branch. You started to chew it and spat it back out with a loud 'blegh!' almost right away, and gave yourself up, scaring the deer away!” “It tasted awful! I couldn't chew it at all! I have no idea how they can eat something so tasteless... so...” “Fabric like?” Sigyn giggled looking at my son. “Fabric...? Wait... how do you know, what it tasted like?” “That tree you decided to snack on.. it was me... you bit the ruffle off my sleeve.” Sigyn smiled and Loki grinned back at her. “I ate your dress? That's why it tasted so bad!” “Shut up! I'm here saving you, and you're in no position to tease me!” “I figured if I get you mad you may let me take some of the punishment and rest. I know your arms are probably numb and hurting from holding them up for days. Come on... please, get some rest, get some sleep, you can't do this forever. I can take pain, I'm stronger than you think--” Sigyn's lips silenced my son and she quickly pulled away, returning her eyes to the snake and catching another drop of poison. It splashed on her face and she turned away from my son with a moan of pain. Loki pleaded again. “Sigyn, please, stop this. I can't...” My son's girl turned back to him, blinking her tears away and smiled. “No, and stop asking. See, it's already healing. Now lets go back to pleasant memories. You saw them run away and stumped your foot on the ground in frustration. Then made a few more jumps, horsing around and turned into yourself, falling into the grass with a huge smile on your face. Then you stood up and ran back to the castle screaming a loud 'woohoo'... You didn't know back then that you were taking something with you out of that forest that day... my heart flew after you, starting the miserable years of hopeless love. I wanted to get your attention, but I was way too shy, and you never even looked at me. Your eyes were always avoiding me... like I didn't exist. When my father told me that he gave my hand to Theoric... the devastation of a future unwanted marriage to a man I always hated sent me running... I had no idea where I was going until I stopped by your door... and that is when I decided to ask you for help...” Sigyn paused, watching the snake raise its head and close its mouth and quickly stepped aside, emptying the vase behind the rocks. The fumes from the burning ground rose up in steam and the serpent hissed, opening its mouth right above my son's chest, the drop of poison dangled, suspended from the fang. I gripped to my chest and Sigyn gasped rushing back to Loki. She realized that the vase was too big to fit in the quickly diminishing space between my son's skin and the drop and stretched her arm, catching the poison into her palm. It bubbled on her skin, eating its way thought her hand and she screamed, but the second drop appeared from the snake's tooth and Sigyn forgot about her pain, lifting the vase up. My son's face turned gloomy, he clenched his jaw, making the muscles in his cheeks tighten, and his voice came out ice cold.. “I was hopping I at least be here by myself, but no, you followed me and now I have to hear you irritating screams. Honestly, why can't you be less... clingy? Less annoying? I mean, I get it, you are in love with me and this story you told me is very touching and all, but I have to tell you something... You're right, I would've never asked you out. Until you showed up at my door I never even knew you existed. I mean, I saw you a few times... I think... can't really recall, but since you must have been often in my parents' gatherings, I must've seen you. The only reason I decided to help you was because I was bored and it was easier to say yes, then hear your annoying crying. You looked horrible, eyes all swollen, face red... I thought you were down right ugly! But I already said yes, plus I never liked that snob, Theoric. I thought that would be the end of it, but you kept hanging around, always there... always ready to give... no need to look for pleasure elsewhere. I grew accustom to you... but... I must disappoint you Sigyn. You were right calling it hopeless love. I do not love you and never will. I'm sick and tired of you. Now leave me the fuck alone.” I gasped and gripped to my throat, hearing heartless words of my son. My heart skipped with the pain for a poor girl, who just opened her heart to him. “He can't be that cruel... I taught him humanity, compassion... he has no heart...” I turned to my husband, but his hand tightened on mine, eye pointing back to the puddle. I saw Sigyn lowering her vase, but to my surprise there was sign of pain in her gaze as she looked into Loki's eyes. She smiled, then kissed my son's forehead. “Nice try. It was a pretty good performance, you know, and it would've worked on all the women out there... all but one. You forgot who you are trying to fool. I know you Loki, I know you better than your brothers, better than your parents, better than you even know yourself. I knew you love me the moment you scarified yourself to save me. And the fact that you tried to be so convincing in your little speech here just showed me how much you love me.” Loki sighed, looking at the smiling face of his girl. “I always did... since we were kids... and as we grew up... my eyes never stopped on you... because I was afraid you might smirk back with 'not in your dreams'... when you showed up at my door that night... looking so beautiful, and so scared... asking me to do what I was planning to do since I'd heard about your engagement. When I saw you cry, saying that you hated him... it was the best day of my life. I went through all kinds of trouble making you believe that it was better to be my friend, my close friend... you were finally mine, and I couldn't even think of letting you go...” Odin's hand moved over the waters, darkening the picture and I rose my full of tears eyes to my husband. Odin's hand moved over the waters, darkening the picture and I rose my tear filled eyes to my husband. “Odin... I...” “Now, let them be, let them all find their paths.” “Seems like Thor and Loki have already found theirs... but Balder... he doesn't even have a girlfriend... and he is in Midgard...” I deepened my gaze into the blue eye of my husband, searching for an answer, and he shook his head again, smiling. “You never know when and where you find love... it's a power that beyond Gods. Remember how we met? If that powerful blow from Ymir hadn't sent me across universes into your world, I would've never knew that it had existed. And it so happened that you were in that part of your world, because you were looking for your falcon and wandered deep into the woods, finding me wounded and unconscious...” “That was different! We were both Gods... we were equal, both immortal! Balder is in the realm of mortals! Humans are not allowed in Asgard until they die, and even then, only the chosen ones come and they're bound to Valhalla. He can't fall in love with a mortal, that would be a disaster! Her life span is so short and... Odin, he will be crushed when she dies, he can't fall for a mortal, absolutely out of the question! I can't let him! I won't le--” Odin's lips cut off my words and when he pulled away from the kiss he was smiling. “My love, let them be.” “You... you know something, don't you?” “I know the end, what will set me free, that is all that's written, everything else is in the fog.” He pulled me back to him and I saw a little secret sparkle in his eye. Oh, he knows something! Something he can't tell me... something important... but what? Is it about Balder? I opened my mouth, but Odin shook his head, putting an end to the questions, and I sighed. I have to wait... I have to sit and wait, knowing nothing, I have to live with this burning fear for the lives of my children, I have to blindly trust in the wisdom of my husband... I'm going to turn gray! He has no idea how it feels to drift in the abyss of unknown! He has no idea what monstrous fears hide in the mind of a worried sick mother! I looked deeper into Odin's eye and felt overwhelming tension, but it wasn't my worry I felt, it was coming from the depths of the blue eye in front of me. He... he does know, does he...? He feels all that and more... because he knows more... I reached to my husband's cheek. “My love... I...” “I love you Frigg and if you wish I can let you stay here, while the time passes faster in the real world. You can stay here until it's all over.” I kissed his cheek and pushed out a smile. “Asgard needs its Queen, while the King and princes are away.” “Frigg... about our sons... and what you saw...” He hesitated and I smiled with a sigh. “I promise I won't let Loki out of the punishment until it's over, even though I'm itching to go there and hug them both. I promise I won't go to Midgard to look for Balder or Thor, I promise not to interfere. I will stay in Asgard, watching over our realm and wait. I just hope when it's all over, I will have my family back, in full...” “Well, you may have to make some room at the table for the bigger family...” Odin smiled and mirrored his smile, feeling my heart warming up. At that moment in the corner of my eye I saw movements behind my love's back and saw his wolfs stepping out of the foggy mist. They stopped at the edge looking at me as if not sure if they allowed to proceed, but Odin followed my gaze, and waived them to come. “At least my wolfs are always here to keep me a company. Don't know what I would've done without them!” Furry bandits carefully made their way to us, keeping their heads and their waiving tails low, clearly knowing that I'm still mad at them. “Such a good boys!” Odin patted Geri on the back with one hand and gripped Freki's nose with the other. “Good boys? They are demons! Furry, unruly demons who go where ever they please and listen to no one but you!” I looked at my husband's four-legged companions, and they both wagged their tails a little, looking back at me with slightly apologetic expressions. I saw a smile in Geri's eyes when his nose touched my hand and his wet tongue slid on my palm. Wait... they do go everywhere... there is no place they can't visit... and just like Odin they can see through the ravens' eyes... they always were the carriers of Odin's tasks... his helpers... I looked at wolfs, watching them sit down by Odin's feet. “It was such an unfortunate accident, them breaking my mirror like that...” I rose my eyes to my husband's face and continued. “And the timing was just so wrong. You know a few minutes later and I would've been gone to Midgard to get Balder... if I didn't know better, I would think that they did it on purpose.” Odin patted Geri's head, and looked back at me with a wicked smile. “I don't know what are you talking about, my love, they are just wolfs... they don't make plans, they just like to play...” |

Thank you girls!!! Love you! I know, you all want to hear more about Thor and Astrid and Lana and Balder, and possibly Loki and Sigyn, and I promise we will go back to Midgard to see what they are doing, but first... we are going to take a little detour to Jotunheim. XXVI. (Elayne's POV) My light among the lights of my sisters slid over the dreadful frozen mountains of Jotunheim, following Sol's chariot and slowly, almost unwillingly moving to the valley. This wasn't the world we were eager to shine on. No one here had ever appreciated our beauty, no one had ever gazed with amazement at the sunrise, no one was there to witness the brilliance of the shimmering of our light on the ice. A few of us continued to the lower part, while others pulled back, blocked by high peaks. I slid on the snow covered land and was about to draw back when I caught a glimpse of something sparkling bright. I flew forward, pushed by curiosity, and as I reached the entrance of the cave my light went through the perfectly clear crystal pyramid, reflecting to the far wall. I followed it with my eyes and gasped as it lit the faceted icicle-filled ceiling. Every singe one of them shimmered with rainbow lights, highlighting the tunnel in dancing colors, and I moved further, chasing their reflections. I knew that Jotuns hated Sol and sun-rays, that was why their world was never completely lit. We always followed the same pattern, barely touching the mountains and this valley and never entering the rest of Jotunheim. But since the giants never bothered any of us, preferring to hide as Sol's chariot passed by, I had no reason to worry or be afraid of anyone in this brightly lit icy wonderland. I giggled, twirling and watching the light dance in the clear sides of multiple ice sculptures. I flew along the wall, reflecting off the brilliance of frost and as I moved closer to the center my eyes widened, stopping on the lacy frame with a big mirror. Beside it, on a blue pillow on the tall pedestal made of beaded crystals lay a breathtaking crown. It was made of the most beautiful and delicate snowflakes, in the middle and at the points of each multifaceted, polished ice crystals shined like diamonds. I'd never seen such a beautiful crown before and came closer, flying around it to see every side of its glory. As I stopped in front of it, I saw my own reflection in the form of a ray in the mirror. I looked back at the crown. It's too small for Jotuns... it's small enough to fit me... I looked back at my reflection and returned my eyes to the crown. I wanted to try it on so badly... but my ray was connected to the Sun and would destroy its beauty with heat... but... if I laid it down, just for a few minutes, taking my solid, heat-free form... I stepped out of the ray, laying it on the floor, and carefully reached for the crown, picking it up and slowly lowered it on my head. The crown slid on my hair, stopping right above my ears to a perfect fit and I turned to the mirror, gasping in amazement. “Holy Sun! Have you ever seen a beauty like this? It fits me perfectly and those crystals pick up the golden glow of my hair and the blue light from my eyes and shine like the most beautiful gems!” I turned and smiled at my own reflection. “You are born to wear this! You are the most beautiful out of all of your sisters! Look at that gorgeous smile, that buttery skin, that luxurious wavy long hair, those topaz-like eyes, those full pink lips, that figure that looks as though it was sculpted by the best artists of all the realms!” “Too bad they forgot to add at least a little bit of brain to their creation.” The raspy deep voice made me jump, turning around and to my dread I saw the son of the Jotun's king, Grundroth. I quickly looked at the floor where I left my ray and found it incased in a huge block of ice. Grundroth smirked as his eyes followed my gaze. “I got you. No way of getting our of here, and your are completely vulnerable in front of me.” As his words left his lips I gripped at my chest, stepping back in fear. “Please don't rape me!” “Rape?” His face twisted with a revolting expression. “I'd rather fuck Fenrir wolf!” I felt his words like a slap on my face and tightened my lips. “Then why did you go through all the trouble of catching me?” “Revenge.” Grundroth's eyes turned dark and I tilted my head, baffled by his answer. “Revenge? What revenge? Against me?” It can't be against Asgard... I'm not that important to start a war over me... and sadly not that valuable to be traded for any important ransom... there are hundreds of thousands of sun rays, even though I'm the one of Sol's favorite maids... My eyes slid on the icy figures in the cave, then moved to the crown. He... he made all this... he made it for me, to catch me... It's has to be about me.. something personal... but I have never done anything to him... I never even laid my light on that gross creature. As if he read my thoughts he smirked and stepped closer. “Are all Sol's maids as stupid and as self centered as her? It's not about you.” How dare he insult me like that!? Comparing me to brainless Sol? How dare he?! “Then release me at once!” I lifted my chin, but stepped back when the gruesome blue figure stepped closer in a threatening way. The thunderous voice spat out, sending a wave of foul breath. “You are in no position to order me, maid! You will do what I say.” I felt a wave of anger and tightened my lips. “Or what? You'll kill me?” “No, it's pointless, you just return to the Sun, making a big flare splash, since you're just like your Goddess and love to make a big deal out of everything, even death. Then you'll be reborn with the sunrise.” “For your information, we were born with the sun a million years ago and we will die with it. Nothing else can kill us. That splash you are referring to is just reemergence with the energy. A kind of renewal, recharging to keep the beauty shining.” I smirked, and turned away. “Yes, the beauty... your kind praise it above all, don't you?” “How can you shine without beauty? How can you make breathtaking sunrises and sunsets? We make everything come to life, make everyone feel warm as they gaze upon with our beauty. We make things grow, reaching to be closer to us. Without us--” “Yeah, yeah... don't praise yourself. You also burn and kill and you don't care about anyone but yourselves and your beauty. And that is exactly why you are going to tell me everything I want to know.” “Pfff... Why should I? Soon my ray will burn through that ice and I will be free.” I crossed my arms over my chest and tapped my foot on the icy floor with impatience, glancing at the ice block that my ray was imprisoned in. “That ice is stronger then you think, it's black ice from the deepest cave of this world. It's older then your sun, it'll hold.” Grundroth's lips slid into a disgusting smirk. “Meanwhile you will tell me what I want to know.” I felt a wave of irritation, and looked right into cold eyes of overconfident blue monstrosity. “And why is that? You can't kill me. You are, as you said, revolted by me, so there is no danger of being taken against my will, and as you may or may not know, sun rays don't feel pain, and can't be harmed in any way, so torturing me for information is out of the question. The only thing I have to put up with is the torture of sharing this place with your ugly scarred face, but to avoid that I can just look the other way.” I rose my chin again and turned away, feeling pretty happy with what I said. All I have to do is wait, and soon I will be absolutely free. “You don't like my scars? Think they're ugly? That's good, that means you will talk. Because I have something that will make you very talkative.” I felt a movement by my side and turned. My eyes stopped on the dagger that my hideous captor was holding in front of me. “A dagger? Really? I am a sun ray, I'm made of light! You can't cut the light with a knife. Go ahead, try and use it, I will be laughing all the way!” I stepped forward and rose my head, opening my neck with a wide smile. “It's better if you stay perfectly still until you know the little secret this dagger holds.” He smiled moving the blade closer to my face and stopping a few hairs away form my cheek. “You see... even the slightest move could be very unfortunate for you.” I looked at the blade again and was about to smirk in the face of the very sure in himself giant, but something in his eyes made me listen. He took my silence as understanding and continued, slowly moving the tip of the dagger along my face. “Look at it. What do you see?” He moved the dagger, positioning it sideways right in front of my eyes and turned the blade a few times to the side. “Notice anything interesting?” He turned the blade again. “I don't see anything...” I tried very hard to see what he was trying to show me, but it was just a black blade, nothing more. The Jotun smiled. “Right. Does it makes you wonder why? Why you can't even see your reflection? Why this blade doesn't reflect any light at all? As a sun ray you must know that even unpolished metal always shines back. Look closely. Does it remind you of anything? Anything at all?” I looked at the dagger that rose back up to my face. I'd never seen a blade that didn't reflect light... it's not just black... it's deep black... like it has no surface... What is it supposed to remind me of? The giant smiled again and moved the dagger, turning it in his hand. “Come on, think, you can't possibly be that stupid. Think harder. I'll give you a hint. What consumes light... eating it like a hungry mouth... The only thing that is capable of eating anything, including stars and worlds...” Consumes light... hungry mouth... that eats stars and worlds? My eyes widened and I barely held myself from jumping as far away as possible from the dangerous blade. “No! It cant be! You couldn't possibly get that... you don't have the power to get that... no one does... I held my breath and froze when the dagger moved to my neck. The Jotun smiled. “I see you know what I'm talking about... as for how I got it... lets just just say many weapons get lost in the midst of a big war... some are found and secured.. some are lost and forgotten. It's only a small dagger... it's not powerful enough to kill you... right away... but it is powerful enough to leave deep, black, never-healing scars on your body. Tell me everything I want to know and this blade will stay off your skin, try to fool me or lie to me and trust me, I'll make sure you look worse than me, worse than Hel.” I swallowed, feeling my body shivering and pushed out a weak whisper. “What do you want to know?” He smiled and waved his hand, moldering an icy chair with his power, then dropped into it, crossing his legs. “You and your sisters see everything, you go everywhere. I want to know what is going on in Asgard. I want to know why some elderly dwarf came to Jotunheim, and went through the trouble of finding me and telling me how I can get into Asgard unnoticed. I want to know who sent him. I want to know who set the trap my soldiers walked into. I may come up with other questions as I learn more, but you can start talking.” I breathed out a sigh of relief. Oh thank the Sun Power, he doesn't want to know anything about the Sun or Sol. That would be the only thing my hotheaded mistress would never forgive me, if she ever found out about this. As for the rest... I let out a smile. This ugly idiot doesn't even know it was Loki and not some elderly dwarf. And he dared call me stupid? Moronic icicle was just a puppet in Loki's game... Oh, I will enjoy telling him everything. |
